True Story: I’m in my sophomore year in high school. I’m on my alma mater’s baseball team and we were lucky enough in 2014 to go play at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The same field where Jackie played at back when he was in the black leagues. The team we were beating handily was giving up run after run. I never played much because I was a bench rider. We were up enough to where I got an at bat. I get walked on four straight pitches (one almost nails my head). Later on in the inning I’m at third with my dad (head coach at the time) coaching third. A line drive allows me to cross home plate safely. Now I have something in common with Chadwick Boseman, and Jackie Robinson; all three of us crossed home plate at historic Rickwood Field (Chadwick because during filming he slid into home). And with my family being there was just icing on the cake. God bless Jackie and God bless Chadwick.
Fritz Ostermeuller was never racist towards Jackie, he experienced plenty of racism himself being a German American during/post World War II. Ostermeuller's family was very upset with this movie for portraying him the way they did.
