Same enthusiasm, same honesty, same sense of humour..I just woke up,eyes stuck together, can't focus but as soon as I saw the new review I started my day off with a smile, thankyou Gary
We stayed at the Witchery in 2019. We didn't have an evening dining experience, but we did have a complimentary breakfast every morning. Breakfast is served in a cozy, downstairs room that has red brocade walls, candlelight, and linen tableware. And we could order whatever we wanted. Staying there is like living in a castle. Yes, a once in a lifetime experience, but it was fabulous.

Basically the majority of the rest don’t give a monkeys about anyone else wherever they are. Note to all the others….be like Gary!!
My wife and I were in Edinburgh back in 2000. We were lucky enough to enjoy a meal at this incredible restaurant. Thank you for bringing back cherished memories. It was, as Gary said a once in a lifetime experience. We did and do not eat out at restaurants, expensive or otherwise very much. This was a real treat. Worth it.
I went to Edinburgh Uni and when I graduated my Mum & Dad took me there for a special celebratory treat. That was 30 years ago but I still remember it being one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
I really appreciate that, thanks Mike. It has to be fair, a lot of people like the fine dining videos which is why I do them. I do prefer the home comfort though. Take care and have a lovely week
I don't get having to pay additional side dishes for a main having nothing sided! It's never ever happening in any restaurant in France. A main always comes with its adequate side dish not like an additional hotelier profit . At the dish price, they can afford to give free boiled potatoes😮
Unfortunately because its on the Royal Mile in a very touristy area they can get away with it but i agree £7 for some blanched spinach is absolutely shocking behaviour, especially when the main costs £50 already. Profiteering at its worst.
Absolutely agree. Also, if they are a fine dining restaurant then the chef would know what sides are going to be best as a combination. Once upon a time, fresh bread was also served and a good restaurant would offer a sorbet or other mouth cleanser between courses. Now restaurants want an added service charge. What will they think of next?
Another great review Gary and I love how considerate you are towards others. The food looked amazing and the restaurant was gorgeous, thank you Gary and cameraman for the top notch video.
As a Glaswegian now living in Sydney this channel is almost becoming a comfort blanket. The Starbar for the honest and authentic piece of Glasgow and now, a culturally just as important seminal Edinburgh restaurant. One of the pubs I most miss from Glasgow is the Smiddy Bar on Dunbarton Road as it, like this channel, hosted every walk of life and everyone left their pretenses at the door and got along.
I’m really pleased you are enjoying the videos from Scotland, I have to say I had a fantastic time and I will be back next year, the good news is I have more to come

Hi Gary! What a beautiful restaurant to review, right in the heart of Edinburgh. The entry & interior are stunning. My ex-partner & I must have walked past The Witchery several times on our last trip to Edinburgh, but if we had looked at the menu & converted it to AUD, it may well have ended in bankruptcy if we had chosen to dine there! 😅 Your starter, main & desert all looked delicious. You always give excellent descriptions of the food in all of your reviews & on this occasion you went above & beyond. Given how expensive it is, your comments throughout provided alot of worthy details, especially for anyone thinking of visiting this restaurant & being wary of potentially very costly tourist traps. Well done on the filming. A fine dining restaurant, which is busy must be very challenging. As always, you managed to do both a quality review, while being discreet & considerate to the surroundings. The shots of Edinburgh Castle made me very holiday nostalgic towards the end. 🩷 Your reviews in Scotland have been wonderful & I've so enjoyed every minute of them! See you on the next one Gary. 💙🌷🏴
I have to say, I had a wonderful visit to Scotland, Erin, I was really pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and how wonderful the people were, I can’t wait to go back next year, this one was expensive, but the food was quality. MAN ALIVE Gary, so glad you reviewed this one. It’s so great to see a top money restaurant deliver when as we know sometimes a hard won reputation can be allowed to slide. The fact that the chef offered to serve both the fish and the haggis deboned is such a nice touch. Wild Haggis on the menu is so rare these days and such a treat as they are a real bugger to catch on the hoof. An even rarer delicacy are haggis legs, not much meat but oh so delicious when cooked in cream and garlic. Never seen them in Edinburgh but they are much more widely served as a starter or side dish around the forests and lochs much further north. Keep up the good work. ❤
Hi Gary, my girlfriend and I absolutely love you and your videos. Whenever a new video of yours drops we can't wait to watch it while eating or getting ready to leave the house, only to end up running late because we stick on another! We're both Scottish and would LOVE to recommend a couple of our absolute favourite restaurants here for the next time you're out and about in bonnie Scotland! Chaophraya - an elegant Thai restaurant with a stunning glass balcony that overlooks Edinburgh with fantastic views of the Edinburgh Castles - spent a couple birthdays here and the service and food were both top quality - would recommend the mixed sharing platter and the stir fried chicken in black bean sauce (also 1 Chaophraya in Glasgow and 1 in Aberdeen) The Cotton House - a classy, excellent service and high quality Chinese-Oriental restaurant, can't recommend highly enough, definitely the nicest Chinese restaurant we've been to - located in Denny, just outside of Stirling & Glasgow - would recommend the salt and chilli chicken and satay chicken. Great video as always Gary. We are both 24 and watch every video the day it drops because your channel gives such an escape from the chaotic normality we're all used to, and allows us to just sit back, chill out and watch a lovely man talk about (usually) lovely food. Cheers!
I might be in Edinburgh after Christmas day, never been there so fingers cross I get a chance to be bewitched and checkout Cotton house. Thank you Gary guys..
I love the variety of cuisines you cover Gary. Certainly not a place that you’re gonna be dining in every night of the week, but nice to experience something like that on occasion. It’s great to see what else is out there and good to see you’re having some good meals in Scotland 🏴
Gary, so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Scotland, loved and commented on your wonderful heart felt visit to the Star Bar in Glasgow and the other videos,We tend to be tarnished on having an awful diet here but it’s great to see you promote our food industry which is quite wonderful. Really enjoy your content, keep up the good work sir.
This brought back so many memories for me! Stayed here about 20 years ago during a very happy period in my life. We ate here but can’t remember really but I know for sure the prices wouldn’t have been anything like this lol. The room was stunning, very opulent and dramatic. Happy days, thanks for the memories Gary! x
A GaryEats video is just what we need to cheer us all up on this miserable Monday. Hope there's haggis tonight. I need to get out more. 😂 Yaaay there's haggis!!!! Ooooh did we hear cameramans voice? He's building up his part. This time next year you'll be the cameraman and he'll be presenting. 😂 15k more subscribers needed to get to the magic 200k. Will we get there by Christmas? It will be the best Christmas pressie ever. 🤞You're spending a lot of money so don't worry so much about taking up the table space to talk about the food you are eating. £110? Wowsers. Take all the time you need after paying that much. 😱
Fine dining and a beautiful setting. You were very respectful Gary and amazing quality of food. A special occasion and one to savour. Bless you and thank you for sharing with us Gary, much appreciated. Soon be reaching 200K subscribers and we all enjoy the journey with you 🫶🫶🫶

@@GaryEats Glad your enjoying Scotland as they say the best small country in the world. It would surprise you the price of houses. If you sell in the south of England you will get a decent house in Scotland with some cash to spend at The Witchery.
Ooh Gary you have gone very posh with this one! I think one liked this experience! The food looked amazing and the service and setting was great too. One has gone up in the world. I hope the cameraman indulged too!! Well done boys, you are having a great Scottish 🏴 tour!! 😘

@@GaryEats Absolutely spot on Gary...... My wife and I were most impressed when having lunch at the Witchery a couple of years ago. Food was fantastic as was the service and that restaurant just has the loveliest ambiance. Perfect......
So happy to see you are having such a wonderful time in Scotland, and based on everything you bring us, thoroughly deserving of three successive great experiences and so contrasting with it👏🏻
2 hours after pisting this video 23k people have already seen this and thus a huge advertisement for the Witchery that will only grow. And Gary is such a nice fella hes concerned about the experience of everyone else there! Youre a true gent, Gary.
Sadly I must disagree with the general tone of the comments. Location is fabulous. Service exemplary. Food at least that of the fixed price lunch we enjoyed a couple of months ago was however of poor quality and value for money. No vegetarian options minuscule portions and watery fish pie. You can eat much better in Edinburgh for less money.
I ate there years ago, as it was the venue chosen for a wedding reception. The service was snailpaced, and the lamb was poorly cooked and flavourless. I hope it's improved in recent years, as I was bitterly disappointed. 😢
You can really see the quality of the ingredients shining through. You can tell the owners/chefs really have a passion for their restaurant, and as a treat, this easily justifies the prices. Top review, Gary. 👌🏻
You are right Gary. This restaurant is for that very special occaison. A restaurant that great memories are made of. As always " Let's give it go" Great video ! 👍👍👍👍👍 Jim and Harriet
Another great review. Thank you Gary. You are a real gentleman thinking of the other customers and stopping the filming so they were not disturbed. Very expensive but the food looked really good and a friendly service.
Yet another great review Gary. As a Scot living in Spain who enjoys fish; I appreciate your honesty regarding the difference of truly fresh fish to what has to be the acceptance that we mostly buy from supermarkets and fish mongers. Also to your wisdom that ‘fine dining’ is an experience to cherish ( like any other ‘treat’ ; a concert ticket, a theatre show etc etc) …..keep giving it a go!
Charging extra for the side dishes 😮 £50 for the fish 🐠 £110 all up is about $220 Australian 😮 I can get a supermarket trolley full of food for that. Definitely out of my price bracket. The fish did look nice and the desert looked yummy 😊
never thought i would end up watching a food channel ;;; but here i am with my last weeks bag of opened pork scratchings , tesco cheese and onion crisps , cheese and onion pringles , last weeks ham on reduced tesco hard rolls --- livin the dream ;;; glad you enjoyed that marvelous place ,, but a lot above my peasant taste ;;;
😂 ...if you cannot drive a car through it ....then it is too posh and ££££..😂 kidding. I would rather eat once a week and be able to appreciate good food..
You are so considerate and always delighted with your reviews Gary . Enjoyed the history and special occasion treat for a bucket list gold stars always for you and camera man . Edinburgh and restaurant look magic and majestic 🎉
Gary, you are such an absolute and considerate gentleman. Aware that guests around you are paying a lot of money and not wanting to continue so as not to spoil their experience in any way. I think this is a factor in why this community is so special and why we all adore you and Mr Camerman. Big love! ❤ x
So Gary what do you reckon, better than Jollibees or not? 🤣 certainly not better value. Slightly more seriously i dined in the Witchery many many years ago. It was so posh, fancy, expensive then. That when i ordered my mains i actually had to ask the waiter where my steak / beef was? He told me that it was on my plate under one of my Dauphinoise potatoes 🤣🤣🤣 Oh happy days. Yes that is a true story, the meat really was that small. Guess it's back to Jollibees for me Gary....see you there when you return. Bon Appétit
Hey Steve it really does seem that you've been everywhere. Almost as many places as Gary. I will back in Scotland next year and will be sure to give it a try. Thanks for recommending Gary's site

Great video as always Gary. We are both 24 and watch every video the day it drops because your channel gives such an escape from the chaotic normality we're all used to, and allows us to just sit back, chill out and watch a lovely man talk about (usually) lovely food.
Cheers!
Wow thank you so much. I'm really glad you enjoy the videos - when I come back to Scotland, I will definitely visit one of your recommendations!
@@GaryEats Pleasure! We shall welcome you back with open arms, cheers!
I might be in Edinburgh after Christmas day, never been there so fingers cross I get a chance to be bewitched and checkout Cotton house. Thank you Gary guys..
I am in Glasgow and have never heard of Chaophraya, will definitely check it out. Thank you.
I love the variety of cuisines you cover Gary. Certainly not a place that you’re gonna be dining in every night of the week, but nice to experience something like that on occasion. It’s great to see what else is out there and good to see you’re having some good meals in Scotland 🏴
I really appreciate that, thank you Steve. I really do my best along with the cameraman to mix up the content
Gary, your elegant manners are a model for us all. Love you to bits ❤
Thank you very much Anne
That walkway with all the pumpkins 🎃 love it, what a cool restaurant, love the theme coupled with fine dining
Lol fantastic and the theme was excellent
This brought back so many memories for me! Stayed here about 20 years ago during a very happy period in my life. We ate here but can’t remember really but I know for sure the prices wouldn’t have been anything like this lol. The room was stunning, very opulent and dramatic. Happy days, thanks for the memories Gary! x
That’s absolutely wonderful to hear Julie xx🌹❤️🌹
It has really been a miserable monday! No not him
Beautiful area and beautiful meal. Thank you for sharing. I always look forward to your videos.
So nice of you John
Oh my from beginning to end the food looked lovingly prepared and delicious. The restaurant beautiful. Loved the pumpkins. What a perfect experience.
Brilliant!!
Fine dining and a beautiful setting. You were very respectful Gary and amazing quality of food. A special occasion and one to savour. Bless you and thank you for sharing with us Gary, much appreciated. Soon be reaching 200K subscribers and we all enjoy the journey with you 🫶🫶🫶
Thanks so much Andreas, please take care of yourself. How are you doing?
@GaryEats Definitely in the best place right now. Got IV treatment for the MS on 20th December. Xmas will be a time of recovery for me. It's always a pleasure and comfort, watching your posts. Many thanks again Gary 🫶🫶🫶
FYI, Gary, the haggis is from Findlays butchers in Porty, and Haggis is stuffed in the sheep's stomach not the Bladder..
I meant to say liver not bladder, sorry!
Where does Findley's catch it about, tho?
@@GaryEats 😅
@@GaryEatsThe stomach it's encased in.sheeps😊
Sounds revolting either way tbh.
Thanks as always, Gary, for your enthusiastic and honest review. I would never have gone there previously to watching your video. I would now. It's always nice when you give the staff a shout out.
The service was excellent so only right to recognise John
Another great video Gary and Cameraman looked really good and hats off to you as usual respecting everyone in the restaurant.
Thank you kindly Douglas, Scotland just continues to amaze me in every way. I wonder how much it costs to buy a house here lol
@@GaryEats Glad your enjoying Scotland as they say the best small country in the world. It would surprise you the price of houses. If you sell in the south of England you will get a decent house in Scotland with some cash to spend at The Witchery.
Had lunch there last Monday and it is all that Gary says it is but is it worth the price? ... YES IT IS. Will I go back? ... absolutely.
Ooh Gary you have gone very posh with this one!
I think one liked this experience! The food looked amazing and the service and setting was great too. One has gone up in the world. I hope the cameraman indulged too!! Well done boys, you are having a great Scottish 🏴 tour!! 😘
One did enjoy 😂 and definitely a great rip Carol ❤️❤️
This looked amazing great stuff Gary
Many thanks Jerry
I thought this was beautifully filmed and edited. As always such a gentleman Gary thinking of the others around u 😊
That’s so kind Tina thank you ❤️
You are such a considerate person Gary. I love that about you xx
Thank you very much Lyndsey xx
Fantastic place Gary. You are so honest and professional caring for the other diners. Nice for a special occasion
That’s very kind to say Lorraine 🌹🌹
Glad you are having a good time in Scotland Gary 🏴🦄🏴🦄
Really appreciate that, thank you Neil. Truly loved it here!
We went to Rules and Lumo while in London we also went to Roka on Charlotte Streer
It’s nice to see your conscientious of your environment.
Thank you and of course
Gaz always puts a smile on my face
Really appreciate that, thank you
Glad i subscribed. Your reviews are excellent!
Welcome aboard!
I don't think I could ever get tired of your food reviews Gary. You make me feel like I'm eating right there with you!
Thank you very much Tiffany, I'm glad you love them!
portions looked very decent sizes which is always a good sign, lot of top restaurants you'd still be hungry after all 3 courses
When you put it like that shutup, you make a very good point
Number One at the Balmoral, The Kitchin and The Table can be more expensive,… Great review. Thank you
I will have to check those out!
Gary and his respect for fellow diners shows what a class act he is!
Thank you!
Edinburgh is a fabulous city. ♥️⚒️
Wonderful beautiful city
Gary not wanting to disturb other diners’ experiences despite there being loud guest chatting in the background shows what a top man he is. Is there any other more considerate and well-mannered RUclipsr?
It’s only right to consider other diners when they are spending so much money in my opinion and thank you
@@GaryEats Absolutely spot on Gary......
My wife and I were most impressed when having lunch at the Witchery a couple of years ago.
Food was fantastic as was the service and that restaurant just has the loveliest ambiance.
Perfect......
Gary, that is why you are so special because of your consideration of other diners. This is another great review. Thank you.
Thank you very much Shirley
Another great video Gary, food looked fantastic & you're very respectful. Looks like you're really enjoying your little tour of Scotland 😁
Thank you and definitely a great trio Robert….but ….
The head chef has been there for 30÷ years, totally unassuming guy ,not many people know him,but we love him!! Go DR!!
Fantastic stuff Lesley!
My dinner can wait.. in the middle of peeling spuds and the notification came through.
Greeno and Gary videos on the same day are an absolute luxury.
You're very kind Dazza, hope you are doing well
Start watching Greeno and his £20 three-course meal when Gary's video appears. Sorry Greeno, Gary gets first dibs, even though I love them both.
So happy to see you are having such a wonderful time in Scotland, and based on everything you bring us, thoroughly deserving of three successive great experiences and so contrasting with it👏🏻
Thank you very much
2 hours after pisting this video 23k people have already seen this and thus a huge advertisement for the Witchery that will only grow. And Gary is such a nice fella hes concerned about the experience of everyone else there!
Youre a true gent, Gary.
That’s so very kind as always thank you
Sadly I must disagree with the general tone of the comments.
The venue looked gorgeously rustic. I could live there! I agree that would be a once in a lifetime treat.
It’s definitely a beautiful venue and at once in a lifetime treat
Although I enjoy your regular and fast food videos I think your fine dining videos are your best because of your detailed descriptions.
That’s really appreciated
Great review, and your excellence at conveying the meal. Super.
Thank you very much
Hi Gary! Love your videos, always make me hungry!
Thank you Gina 🌹
You can really see the quality of the ingredients shining through. You can tell the owners/chefs really have a passion for their restaurant, and as a treat, this easily justifies the prices.
Top review, Gary. 👌🏻
Wow, thank you!
Hi Gary that restaurant looked beautiful.the fish looked really delicious and the dessert tasty another fantastic video as always.
Thank you very much Julie ❤️
You are right Gary. This restaurant is for that very special occaison. A restaurant that great memories are made of. As always " Let's give it go" Great video ! 👍👍👍👍👍 Jim and Harriet
Sometimes you have to pay that bit extra to have a wonderful meal and some wonderful memories, Jim and Harriet
Excellent review Gary and agreed the food really did look quality!! All the best ….Smithy
Thank you Smithy
Easy to spend a lot of money there Gary food looked A1+.
Great review as always mate 👍🏻😁
Thanks Rob, you're not wrong👍
Love the videos Gary
Really appreciate that, thank you
Another great review. Thank you Gary. You are a real gentleman thinking of the other customers and stopping the filming so they were not disturbed. Very expensive but the food looked really good and a friendly service.
It was very expensive, but it was excellent quality quality Susan and it wasn’t right for me to carry on filming
Gary really deserves his own show on mainstream telly, I'm telling ya!
So does Greeno and Deano :)
Is that a blessing? Mainstream telly is dying a death. RUclips is no longer the poor relation.
I am really happy just working with my son
@@GaryEatsdoes your son ever try the food? He had to have been curious on this one
Stop what you're doing, Gary has uploaded 😎😎
Really appreciate that, thank you lol!!
I did
Yet another great review Gary.
That’s very kind to say and thank you for watching from Spain
Charging extra for the side dishes 😮 £50 for the fish 🐠 £110 all up is about $220 Australian 😮 I can get a supermarket trolley full of food for that. Definitely out of my price bracket. The fish did look nice and the desert looked yummy 😊
Yes it’s a bit cheeky but it’s absolutely superb
Looked great that pal - the colour on that fish was perfect!
Thank you Greeno speak soon
Can’t believe TV channels haven’t been knocking on your door. Far better content here than what they broadcast. Excellent work “as always” Gary 👍
That’s so very kind thank you
never thought i would end up watching a food channel ;;; but here i am with my last weeks bag of opened pork scratchings , tesco cheese and onion crisps , cheese and onion pringles , last weeks ham on reduced tesco hard rolls --- livin the dream ;;; glad you enjoyed that marvelous place ,, but a lot above my peasant taste ;;;
I understand your point, Simon, as it is very expensive
Good to see how the other half live and I'm not really missing out
It's all personal preference as you've said Dave, I do prefer my home comfort food more but this was a nice treat!
😂 ...if you cannot drive a car through it ....then it is too posh and ££££..😂 kidding. I would rather eat once a week and be able to appreciate good food..
good luck with that
You are so considerate and always delighted with your reviews Gary . Enjoyed the history and special occasion treat for a bucket list gold stars always for you and camera man . Edinburgh and restaurant look magic and majestic 🎉
There is a lovely comment, thank you very much, Sandra 🌹
Gary, you are such an absolute and considerate gentleman. Aware that guests around you are paying a lot of money and not wanting to continue so as not to spoil their experience in any way. I think this is a factor in why this community is so special and why we all adore you and Mr Camerman. Big love! ❤ x
Thank you very much!!
That’s so funny thank you Stephen 😂😂
"How did you find the beef, sir?"
"Well I had to look for a while, but it was under a potato..."
@@smithjonathan ha ha you were right, with great difficulty
Great video as always Gary. Thank you for putting such care and attention into making your reviews and in your consideration of the other diners. Top class guy in a top class venue. I've never been to Edinburgh but it's now on my list!!! From Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪. 😊
That is truly a wonderful comment thank you so very much and if you do visit, you won’t be disappointed 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
That haggis looked so fresh that i think it was caught the day before, as it frolicked among the heather.
It was fantastic Stuart
It truly looked a haggis that had led a happy and carefree life!
Free range haggis is a must.
@@TP-om8of The wild Haggis of Scotland might disagree with you there!
Awesome review Gary. Great respect shown as always. Thanks for coming up to Scotland and promoting the great places we have up here!
Really appreciate that, thank you... you're in such a wonderful country
Gary I just love how you review things with a twinkle in your eye like we are having dinner with this you, and the lemon sole looked so pure, so wonderful 😊 What an experience we all had dinner with thanks to you.
