Recently visited this establishment for our 36th wedding anniversary after watching this video. We were both absolutely bowled over by the food and service. It was superb. The section waiter was very friendly and helpful and he even got another member of staff to come over and take a picture with us as my Wife wanted a picture of the night. They couldn't do too much for us. Thank you for your review, as it made us want to give it a go.
I am subscribed to over 500 channels - mainly food, as I worked in catering for 20 years; five of those years in Michelin-starred restaurants. I was trained as a chef by two Michelin-starred dudes, but my back went out and so my days in the kitchen were curtailed. Anyways, I'm just trying to qualify my main point: I know how restaurants work, and I really enjoy your polite and kind attitude to reviewing these establishments. We're possibly of a similar age, and it is very pleasant to see someone that values simple decency. I hope your channel grows and people remember the value of being simply kind and polite.
I just love how absolutely polite and mannered you are to the servers, so humble and likeable. I do the same thing whenever I am being served by anyone as much as I can.

At first I thought £65 for a buffet was nuts! But when you think some places charge £25 for burger and chips and £39 for dodgy fish and chips, it's actually not bad value. Got to say the beef and lamb looked superb, I love lamb but it's not always cooked very well, like you said. The Indian section seemed to be a bit lacking in choice, but maybe that's because it's not chosen too often? The starters and desserts looked so good, I looked away for a moment and looked back and wondered why you had an apple on your plate, then noticed it was a dessert, impressive 😄 Looks like you had a good time there 👍🏼
I've got to say Gary I would have given it a full 10. Not just because the food was to die for but because of the whole experience of it in such fantastic surroundings. When you go out for a meal, especially for a special occasion as it would have to be for many of us, it is nearly as much about the experience as the food. What a fantastic ambiance.
I find your reviews so very entertaining, though I be literally half a world away. Your good manners and appreciation of others is admirable, may your channel prosper and grow.
What sets this channel apart is the fact that Gary comes across like one of us. No pretension, no stardust, just a really nice bloke trying out restaurants on our behalf. What a top man. You just know if he was your neighbour and you lent him your lawnmower it would come back cleaned and oiled and half an hour before you expected it. There are too few people like Gary in this world any more. What a brilliant channel this is.

We often just go in for a lunch, even a burger and chips!! Yes pricey but quality and surroundings are on a different level ! Another place I would recommend for a burger and chips is cut at 45 park lane in London, burger and chips for about 30 quid ! Have had it probably over 100 times over the years it’s been open! Never let me down once !

Nothing wrong with treating the family to a nice meal now and again ! I mean I saw another uk reviewer a few days ago who reviewed a burger from a van in Dublin for 25 quid and he was saying that was the best thing he has had, while eating it off a bonnet of a car !!!! I’m careful with my money, but when I spend it , I spend it on quality and not quantity !
9.5 for me because the quality was “exquisite “! across the range of dishes #1 , #2 you dressed up for the occasion and #3 your hair was perfection my compliments to your hairdresser. Just love seeing you spend your money and enjoying doing so . Another great review!
Hi Gary. With my Stepdad being a vet, his work included farm animals as well as small animal practice. He's based in Bangor, in N. Wales . Now , when we kids were growing up during the 80's , my Stepdad would frequently be called out to various farms (mostly sheep of course) . So he would go and sort out whatever needed attention and he did his job so well that he would be given whole legs or shoulders of delicious Welsh lamb as a thank you. I thought I died and gone to heaven when we started having a Sunday roast on a regular basis!! What a treat ! 🥰🎁

Top quality service, the guy who served your meat was well spoken, polite. The food looked top quality. Well worth the money and I would give it a 10 overall. Would you have a Yorkshire pudding with your Christmas dinner?
Oh my, oh my, oh my! I nearly swooned with delight over all that delicious goodness. My favorite roast meat is lamb, followed by pork and beef tied for second place. Everything was sheer perfection in both presentation and service. This is a gem of a buffet and one that should be experienced on a special occasion once in everyone's life. I would give it a 10. When you think at how much a steak dinner costs these days, and that is for just one piece of meat, the selection and quality of food is astounding. Your careful control of portion size was interesting to watch as was your choice. We all noticed the attentive nature of the waiting staff and serving chefs. When it comes to a score I think that it should be nearer 9.5, but that's just me. Hope you had a relaxing time after you finished your dessert, What cheeses did you opt for? Thanks Gary for digging deep into your pocket to allow us to see what goes on in this top end restaurant buffet.
I thought the same thing. £65 probable isn't that much more than what you'd expect to pay for a steak and chips at Hawksmoor - and for certain cuts, maybe even cheaper.
Great video thanks Gary. I worked at that hotel in 2008, there were 99 chefs spread over seven kitchens. If you’re prepared to pay that for a meal then I think you should go to the Ritz Hotel for my suggestion of afternoon tea. Great review. Looking forward to the next one!
Why are people being negative about you, the food and how you eat it? You're doing everyone a favour in my eyes. Going out, spending your money, your time to educate us on where is nice to eat and where is not, all for free. For the viewers. I personally don't eat out, because im currently bed bound and find it difficult to walk. At the moment. But, watching your video's Gary, when the time comes, I'd like to goto some of the places you have been because I like what I've seen. With commentary too, not just pretty pictures. Thankyou.

Best i have ever seen buffet wise - love that they have some Hake, a very underrated fish which i absolutely love. Brilliantly filmed too as it really brings across how friendly and professional their staff are
It got a 10 from me the food looked delicious and the fact you could help yourself and cater for your appetite is a plus. The ambiance of the place and the decor gave it a warm and inviting feel, in particular the curved seats looked really comfortable. The location and the surroundings of nature adds to the experience and last but not least the service overall, the presentation, the love and care that has gone into creating this feast for all the senses.

It was nice to see a good choice of deserts and not just chocolate most chefs can’t see beyond the chocolate but there are some of us don’t like chocolate. That apple looked delicious I was tasting it with you.
Drowning the yorkshire pudding in gravey will do it for taking the crispiness out of it! I personally love them hot from the oven with melted butter. Keep the gravey for the roasties & meat.

Ham hock terrine is irresistable. I think you should review Cote (a French restaurant chain) which I have enjoyed many times. Always an excellent experience, for myself, anyway.

I think it's good value for money personally because the quality is right there. I'm giving it a 10. It's a shame folk no longer dress up when they go out. That is all part of the occasion for me. This was absolutely top drawer of a review. You guys work hard. This place is incredible. From the food to the garden area. I know it’s all about the food but I would have to stroll around that garden to soak up the whole experience of being there. Check that square tree for goodness sake. Personally I think you were a bit stingy with a 9/10. I’d have given it a perfect 10 but I know where you’re coming from. Oh how the other half live… 👍

Sorry Gary a bit harsh I thought on that. The quantity and quality of those foods plus the volume you can eat isn't expensive at all when fish and chips or the dreaded McDonalds can cost so much and no service, ambiance nothing. For me this had it all and no snooty dressing up, yay! A wonderful 10 star for me! Loved it, thanks for putting yourself and cameraman throughout it!!! Does cameraman ever get to eat BTW poor sole, I couldn't do it! As always thank you! Just read someone saying how polite you are to the servers, yes you are, but I take that as read as I am, what did they do to be rude to them, funny old world or is it the people in. Of course its the nasty people in it!!

Every Sunday mum would cook a roast...beef, pork with crackling, lamb or chicken. Lamb got my vote every time. So sorry I didn't spend more time in the kitchen with her but I inherited her love of cooking and my son has got it from me.

Wow, its very difficult to know what to say. So much variety and yet all of those individual components of astounding quality. When you think about what you actually get for your money with regards to location; setting; the calibre of the staff and the excellent food, then you realise it really is not over-priced. Hi Gary, nice shirt ! My score for the restaurant - 10 / 10. I know quality when I see it, even if it's on my computer monitor. 65 quid ? Well worth it ! This is the kind of meal you would have over a very relaxed 3 hours, either by oneself, or with a cameraman. I now go everywhere with a cameraman ! I used to feel self-conscious lunching by myself, but I'm all good now ! Thank you, my friend, for a very fine episode ! That buffet looked better, with a much bigger range , than what most 5 star hotels offer in Sydney.

My favorite dinner is spring lamb (shank or fillet) with mint sauce, creamy mashed potatoes and young sprouts. Your beef slice did look delicious though!
All that 'fresh' cold food out in the open, uncovered, unrefrigerated, people coughing, breathing and shedding all over it. Did you know that food bacteria can double in number in as little as 20 mins at ambient temperatures? Brave man.

I concur....As I find it quite annoying when off camera voices constantly interrupt or try to narrate the video...I prefer in or out not on the side

9.5 for me because the quality was “exquisite “! across the range of dishes #1 , #2 you dressed up for the occasion and #3 your hair was perfection my compliments to your hairdresser. Just love seeing you spend your money and enjoying doing so . Another great review!

Hi Gary. With my Stepdad being a vet, his work included farm animals as well as small animal practice. He's based in Bangor, in N. Wales . Now , when we kids were growing up during the 80's , my Stepdad would frequently be called out to various farms (mostly sheep of course) . So he would go and sort out whatever needed attention and he did his job so well that he would be given whole legs or shoulders of delicious Welsh lamb as a thank you. I thought I died and gone to heaven when we started having a Sunday roast on a regular basis!! What a treat ! 🥰🎁

Top quality service, the guy who served your meat was well spoken, polite. The food looked top quality. Well worth the money and I would give it a 10 overall. Would you have a Yorkshire pudding with your Christmas dinner?

Oh my, oh my, oh my! I nearly swooned with delight over all that delicious goodness. My favorite roast meat is lamb, followed by pork and beef tied for second place. Everything was sheer perfection in both presentation and service. This is a gem of a buffet and one that should be experienced on a special occasion once in everyone's life. I would give it a 10. When you think at how much a steak dinner costs these days, and that is for just one piece of meat, the selection and quality of food is astounding. Your careful control of portion size was interesting to watch as was your choice. We all noticed the attentive nature of the waiting staff and serving chefs.
When it comes to a score I think that it should be nearer 9.5, but that's just me. Hope you had a relaxing time after you finished your dessert, What cheeses did you opt for?

Great video thanks Gary. I worked at that hotel in 2008, there were 99 chefs spread over seven kitchens. If you’re prepared to pay that for a meal then I think you should go to the Ritz Hotel for my suggestion of afternoon tea. Great review. Looking forward to the next one!

You're doing everyone a favour in my eyes. Going out, spending your money, your time to educate us on where is nice to eat and where is not, all for free. For the viewers.
I personally don't eat out, because im currently bed bound and find it difficult to walk. At the moment. But, watching your video's Gary, when the time comes, I'd like to goto some of the places you have been because I like what I've seen. With commentary too, not just pretty pictures.

Best i have ever seen buffet wise - love that they have some Hake, a very underrated fish which i absolutely love. Brilliantly filmed too as it really brings across how friendly and professional their staff are

It got a 10 from me the food looked delicious and the fact you could help yourself and cater for your appetite is a plus. The ambiance of the place and the decor gave it a warm and inviting feel, in particular the curved seats looked really comfortable. The location and the surroundings of nature adds to the experience and last but not least the service overall, the presentation, the love and care that has gone into creating this feast for all the senses.

It was nice to see a good choice of deserts and not just chocolate most chefs can’t see beyond the chocolate but there are some of us don’t like chocolate. That apple looked delicious I was tasting it with you.
Drowning the yorkshire pudding in gravey will do it for taking the crispiness out of it! I personally love them hot from the oven with melted butter. Keep the gravey for the roasties & meat.

Wow, what a fabulous place. You did really well managing to try most of it. So much choice. You really can stuff yourself silly. I think it's good value for money personally because the quality is right there. I'm giving it a 10. It's a shame folk no longer dress up when they go out. That is all part of the occasion for me. This place is incredible. From the food to the garden area. I know it’s all about the food but I would have to stroll around that garden to soak up the whole experience of being there. Check that square tree for goodness sake. Personally I think you were a bit stingy with a 9/10. I’d have given it a perfect 10 but I know where you’re coming from. Oh how the other half live… 👍

The one that you have a dedicated money jar that you religiously put "X" amount of money into during the year to cover the expense so you can enjoy a guilt-free gastronomic field day. Sorry Gary a bit harsh I thought on that. The quantity and quality of those foods plus the volume you can eat isn't expensive at all when fish and chips or the dreaded McDonalds can cost so much and no service, ambiance nothing. For me this had it all and no snooty dressing up, yay! A wonderful 10 star for me! Loved it, thanks for putting yourself and cameraman throughout it!!! Does cameraman ever get to eat BTW poor sole, I couldn't do it! As always thank you! Just read someone saying how polite you are to the servers, yes you are, but I take that as read as I am, what did they do to be rude to them, funny old world or is it the people in. Of course its the nasty people in it!!

Every Sunday mum would cook a roast...beef, pork with crackling, lamb or chicken. Lamb got my vote every time. So sorry I didn't spend more time in the kitchen with her but I inherited her love of cooking and my son has got it from me.

When you think about what you actually get for your money with regards to location; setting; the calibre of the staff and the excellent food, then you realise it really is not over-priced. Hi Gary, nice shirt ! My score for the restaurant - 10 / 10. I know quality when I see it, even if it's on my computer monitor. 65 quid ? Well worth it ! This is the kind of meal you would have over a very relaxed 3 hours, either by oneself, or with a cameraman. I now go everywhere with a cameraman ! I used to feel self-conscious lunching by myself, but I'm all good now ! Thank you, my friend, for a very fine episode ! That buffet looked better, with a much bigger range , than what most 5 star hotels offer in Sydney.

Don’t eat slimy cold raw fishy rolls
All that 'fresh' cold food out in the open, uncovered, unrefrigerated, people coughing, breathing and shedding all over it. Did you know that food bacteria can double in number in as little as 20 mins at ambient temperatures? Brave man.
