I think when you start watching 1 food review channel, you start getting recommendations of similar channels and I guess that’s how I found Gary’s channel, recently AND he only gave me a minor heart attack when I see thumbnail of Gary in my local Market and trying the Pie & Mash, which he really enjoyed. I even popped down there myself and had a great pie mash. Not been in there for many years but if it’s good enough for Gary, it’s good enough for me 😁
Gary, the 50K subscribers is purely down to your simple, honest, no-frills and mature approach without gimmicks. You don't see yourself as more important or more special than your viewers. Roll on 100k!
6 months later and its 132K. I must have watched all Gary's recent videos so now the RUclips algorithm is starting to recommend the older ones that I haven't seen.
At a buffet, unless you catch them when the items are being refreshed, nothing will be piping hot, and any meat that's already sliced will have started to dry out. That's why they provide you with steaming hot gravy! It warms and moistens your food. This buffet looks like a good one, and you liked the staff. Sounds like a place for my dinner! (Except I'm on the wrong side of The Pond.)
Congratulations Gary. 50,000 subscribers in six months is one heck of an achievement when what you're doing is nothing out of the ordinary. However, its the old story of the end result being greater than the sum of it's parts. You present well. The cameraman does his job equally well. The production and editing values are just right. Plus you have that x factor that can't be faked. You're comfortable enough in front of the camera and you have the likeability factor, as evidenced by the warmth of the comments across the videos. You don't clutter up the presentation by extraneous 'b roll', music, or anything else. Lastly and most importantly, you know your subject and where you don't, you don't try to fake it. At least, I haven't noticed that. You're quite open about what you don't know and that's refreshing. I don't know the stats for the percentage of RUclipsrs that make a living off the medium. However, it used to be the case that of social media start-ups, only a tiny fraction of them would ever make money at all, or in a meaningful way. My gut tells me that the stats are probably similar for RUclips. You're on track to be one of that tiny fraction, so you ought to give yourself a huge pat on the back and have some drinkies to celebrate. 🥂 🍾

hi gary, we tend not to go to a carvery as they are too hit and miss in our opinion, we go to a local pub that do set roast dinners 7 days a week, nothing is frozen everything is cooked fresh, £11 for a small dinner or £14 for a large one and the quality is exceptional, many thanks for your reviews gary.

Congratulations on getting to 50,000 Gary. The roasters .. whenever I’m faced with that situation I simply say that they’re a little we done for me and ask if they’ve got any softer ones. They’re usually happy to oblige and whisk away the “rocks” never to be seen again.

Well done on achieving 50K Gary, it's well deserved. I haven't been to a carvery for years, and when I see you reviewing one I always feel a little envious. My wife isn't a fan, so we have a traditionally served Sunday lunch (which is the biz) at a local pub/restaurant.

I think you were on around 2k (or less even) when I started watching your channel & fell in love with the channel instantly, Honest reviews with no hoo haa or razamatazz. Your personality is what draws viewers in & wow, such an achievement in such a short time. On to the next 50k !! My wife & I love our Toby carvery & this one did fall short of their roast dinner. Some parts (meats) very good but some parts (veg, roasties etc) too dry. Good thing you had gravy that was good. Maybe the secret is going at the start of the service when it all has just been cooked & not left sitting there.

I think it is pretty good value £8.99, free refills of veg....it looked slightly dry, but fairly tasty. It looked about the same as Wetherspoons food, but it's cheaper!

Nice to see another Sunday Roast review Gary. I think for the price not bad at all. Obviously a mixed bag as normal with these type of buffets. If you can catch them at the right time with the vegetables in particular which you didn’t (and the meat of course of which you did) then you can have a winner. I think 6.5/10 is about right for that meal taking the very poor roast spuds into account. Again many congratulations on the 50000 subscribers. Your hard work and excellent reviews certainly merit it.

Well done on the subscriber count . The carvery suffers from the usual buffet drawbacks but the meal looked good , plenty of meat but it looks excellent value , a decent meal in pleasant surroundings.

My fella used to work at a Stonehouse, they did a good carvery of a Sunday (mainly because they are busier and the food turnover is higher meaning fresher food) and they did a nice English breakfast buffet. That being said it is what it is, its a chain and chain do be a little hit and miss. Great work on the 50K and thanks for the entertainment Gary!
I'm always interested in seeing what veg you get with your roast. In South Africa, a Sunday carvery will come with pumpkin or butternut done with butter and sugar, gemsquash, baby marrow (courgettes), cabbage (done with bacon and onion), creamed spinach as well as the usual peas, carrots, green beans, broccoli and cauliflower cheese (not everything I listed but a selection). Carbs usually come as roast potatoes, sweet potato (done with butter and sugar), rice (nearly always) or potato and onion bake. I've not seen mashed potato as a roast dinner option. We also have roast pork and apple sauce as a choice and tend to have chicken rather than turkey. Thank you for your roast reviews, love them.

Great video as always Gary, good honest review, for the price that's a bargain, considering some of your other very expensive reviews. I'm in the heart of the black country & with the cost of living crisis our restaurant prices are always much lower than south of the Watford gap. But the quality we have is amazing unless you make a foolish error dining at cattle a market (toby Carvery) well chuffed on your well-deserved 50000 subs, nice one mate 😉

You’re now my go-to food reviewer/blogger, after discovering your £9.99 Indian buffet review, at that restaurant in Morden by chance. I’m always going to say it, we all like your down to earth, humble and professional way you present your videos.
Fair review Gary. They have a couple of Stonehouse near Cardiff. In general the roast potatoes are very good, the gravy the same. The quality of the meat can differ but for 8.99 it's a cheap feed. The place is always packed at weekend lunchtime and if the rugby is on its full of intoxicated welsh supporters drinking pints of Stella and stuffing their faces. Queuing up for the carvery I heard one exasperated woman say to her sozzled husband. "I've had enough, it's either me or the rugby." He piled his plate high and slurred back, "I'm gonna miss you." Stonehouse is ideal for the pissed working classes but the refined petit bourgeois avoid them like the plague. It's a snobbery thing, you must have looked like a fish out of water...oops sorry about the fish reference 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Congratulations on getting 50k viewers in 6 months. You have a gift for reviewing and never being nasty even when the meal is rubbish. Never go a chain carvery, or any carvery - prefer my local pub that cooks everything from raw! I suspect the meats may have been mechanically retrieved and formed to look like real meat?
Well done Gary! A meteoric rise to fame. And absolutely deserved, for being so straightforward and for choosing such a good variety of restaurants to review. That was a reasonably decent looking plate of food for the price, and I liked that the counter was clean and tidy as, sometimes at budget carveries it looks as if there has been a food fight. Those dishes needed topping up though! I think it's always worth asking if they are doing that soon, before settling for anything dried up. And I'd definitely prefer to pay a little extra for roasties i could eat, as nothing makes me grumpier than missing out on those with a Sunday lunch!
First video I watches I was like meh. Then another I was like it's ok, then 3rd video I was like oh that was nice easy watch, the next video I thought was great. Now I'm a fan and think your videos are fantastic, look forward to your new uploads & wish you every success!!

As with many others Gary well done to you and Mr Cameraman for hitting 50k plus subscribers. I know its been hard work for you both but you have done amazing in such a short time. Ok re todays Sunday roast. Firstly why is it i constantly compare Sundays roasts to Blacklock all the time, i think its because it set such an amazing standard. One thing i did not like with this place was the load music blaring out, its a Sunday not a a Saturday night. Re the food i genuinely think this is a case of you get what you pay for, but on saying that it seems the meat is well above standard, just a shame some of the other things were Luke warm. I thought a 7/10 for this place due to the price. Chris.

Been to a stonehouse is glasgow a good few times and always found the gammon extremely salty and normally just get the beef and turkey... never has an issue with the roasties as they normally keep them well topped up... great review, honest as usual cheers Gary x
Well done on 50k subs mate, thoroughly deserved. The grub looked fine, a bit hit and miss with what was on the plate. I will say, when you're in Ireland I'd recommend Fagans in Drumcondra (Dublin) for a very good carvery, if time permits! As always, great video.
From The Staff at the recently refurbished Stonehouse. "We would like to inform you that we have now restocked the potatoes. We tried to find you but it was 5 hours later and you had scarped. Glad you loved the potatoes that you had eaten though 😜 We did notice later that we were missing all the leather insoles of our trainers and suspect they found their way onto your plate by accident posing as spuds. We have however retained a portion for safekeeping upon your next visit. As far as the temperature of the veggies, we have taken the decision to supply each table with a hairdryer set to max....sorted " Gary, I personally would have liked more bragging rights of your 50k milestone ! a fantastic and well deserved accomplishment. I think timing is everything here. Although I’m not the world’s biggest carvery fan, I regularly take my elderly father to our local Stonehouse for lunch and it’s a case of the earlier you get there, the better. At midday you don’t get any issues with lukewarm food, the meats are always excellent, they never give you the end piece of meat which as you say is a nice touch and at the one we go to the roast potatoes are always the stars of the show! In comparison the ones you were offered looked like they had been sat there for days…….shocking because you can’t have a roast without proper potatoes. I believe it’s the law. Congratulations on your numbers, well deserved 🥳
Congrats on the 50K - just goes to show good honest reviews and simple editing can go a long way! As far as cheap eats go, this isn't bad at all and probably quite healthy! Some of the expensive places really don't serve you with 80g portions of veg sometimes. How are we supposed to get our five-a-day?! As a northerner gravy always saves the day.

It is a challenge to get it right because of all the things you need to consider: Time and day, staff shortages, the science of food is complex, temperature, comfort, light, arbitrary pricing etc. We know you are not nasty and are sincere. Gary you deserve ur 50k subscribers plus. You have a no nonsense open attention to detail on ur videos. You also don't come across big headed unlike some other youtubers I could mention. Keep up the good work.
Been to Stonehouse a few times, and think you nailed it. Chains generally, all similar, and on my visits the food was lukewarm too. Nice, but could've been hotter. And I think you were unlucky re the roasties. Though with so few when you left the counter, me, I'd have mentioned it to staff knowing I'd be back, love roasties. Re ordering, I always 'big up' (pigs in B's etc), and always go for a bit of everything. It's not perfect, but value-wise, hard to complain, and I'd deffo go again.
There's a stonehouse near me and I go from time to time. It's by no means the best Sunday roast you'll ever have, the veg can be dry but it's is a carvery and has sometimes been sitting there a while. However it's always tasty the stuffing is good and the meat is always nice and tender. When you factor in the cost, its outstanding! Its the best value for money around in my opinion 👍
50k in 6 months. Probably 500k by the end of the year as similar channels have done this. You deserve it, Mr Gary.

The white sauce is Horseradish. Goes well with beef. I add mustard to it as can never have too much mustard up your nose!

The roasters .. whenever I’m faced with that situation I simply say that they’re a little we done for me and ask if they’ve got any softer ones. They’re usually happy to oblige and whisk away the “rocks” never to be seen again.

I think you were on around 2k (or less even) when I started watching your channel & fell in love with the channel instantly, Honest reviews with no hoo haa or razamatazz. Your personality is what draws viewers in & wow, such an achievement in such a short time. On to the next 50k !! My wife & I love our Toby carvery & this one did fall short of their roast dinner. Some parts (meats) very good but some parts (veg, roasties etc) too dry. Good thing you had gravy that was good. Maybe the secret is going at the start of the service when it all has just been cooked & not left sitting there.

I think it is pretty good value £8.99, free refills of veg....it looked slightly dry, but fairly tasty. It looked about the same as Wetherspoons food, but it's cheaper!

Always been a big fan of Toby, they would never be the best, but for the price, they are so freaking damn good, I’ve been to traditional pubs with so called the best roasts in town, charging 2-3 the price but the quality is just so disappointing, Toby really never disappoints

Nice to see another Sunday Roast review Gary. I think for the price not bad at all. Obviously a mixed bag as normal with these type of buffets. If you can catch them at the right time with the vegetables in particular which you didn’t (and the meat of course of which you did) then you can have a winner. I think 6.5/10 is about right for that meal taking the very poor roast spuds into account. Again many congratulations on the 50000 subscribers. Your hard work and excellent reviews certainly merit it.

The carvery suffers from the usual buffet drawbacks but the meal looked good , plenty of meat but it looks excellent value , a decent meal in pleasant surroundings.

My fella used to work at a Stonehouse, they did a good carvery of a Sunday (mainly because they are busier and the food turnover is higher meaning fresher food) and they did a nice English breakfast buffet. That being said it is what it is, its a chain and chain do be a little hit and miss. Great work on the 50K and thanks for the entertainment Gary!

I'm always interested in seeing what veg you get with your roast. In South Africa, a Sunday carvery will come with pumpkin or butternut done with butter and sugar, gemsquash, baby marrow (courgettes), cabbage (done with bacon and onion), creamed spinach as well as the usual peas, carrots, green beans, broccoli and cauliflower cheese (not everything I listed but a selection). Carbs usually come as roast potatoes, sweet potato (done with butter and sugar), rice (nearly always) or potato and onion bake. I've not seen mashed potato as a roast dinner option. We also have roast pork and apple sauce as a choice and tend to have chicken rather than turkey. Thank you for your roast reviews, love them.

Great video as always Gary, good honest review, for the price that's a bargain, considering some of your other very expensive reviews. I'm in the heart of the black country & with the cost of living crisis our restaurant prices are always much lower than south of the Watford gap. Fair review Gary. They have a couple of Stonehouse near Cardiff. In general the roast potatoes are very good, the gravy the same. The quality of the meat can differ but for 8.99 it's a cheap feed. The place is always packed at weekend lunchtime and if the rugby is on its full of intoxicated welsh supporters drinking pints of Stella and stuffing their faces. Queuing up for the carvery I heard one exasperated woman say to her sozzled husband. "I've had enough, it's either me or the rugby." He piled his plate high and slurred back, "I'm gonna miss you." Stonehouse is ideal for the pissed working classes but the refined petit bourgeois avoid them like the plague. It's a snobbery thing, you must have looked like a fish out of water...oops sorry about the fish reference 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Well done Gary! A meteoric rise to fame. And absolutely deserved, for being so straightforward and for choosing such a good variety of restaurants to review. That was a reasonably decent looking plate of food for the price, and I liked that the counter was clean and tidy as, sometimes at budget carveries it looks as if there has been a food fight. Those dishes needed topping up though! I think it's always worth asking if they are doing that soon, before settling for anything dried up. And I'd definitely prefer to pay a little extra for roasties i could eat, as nothing makes me grumpier than missing out on those with a Sunday lunch!

Ok re todays Sunday roast.
Firstly why is it i constantly compare Sundays roasts to Blacklock all the time, i think its because it set such an amazing standard.
One thing i did not like with this place was the load music blaring out, its a Sunday not a a Saturday night.
Re the food i genuinely think this is a case of you get what you pay for, but on saying that it seems the meat is well above standard, just a shame some of the other things were Luke warm.
I thought a 7/10 for this place due to the price.

Been to a stonehouse is glasgow a good few times and always found the gammon extremely salty and normally just get the beef and turkey... never has an issue with the roasties as they normally keep them well topped up... great review, honest as usual cheers Gary x

From The Staff at the recently refurbished Stonehouse. "We would like to inform you that we have now restocked the potatoes. We tried to find you but it was 5 hours later and you had scarped. Glad you loved the potatoes that you had eaten though 😜 We did notice later that we were missing all the leather insoles of our trainers and suspect they found their way onto your plate by accident posing as spuds. We have however retained a portion for safekeeping upon your next visit. As far as the temperature of the veggies, we have taken the decision to supply each table with a hairdryer set to max....sorted "

I think timing is everything here. Although I’m not the world’s biggest carvery fan, I regularly take my elderly father to our local Stonehouse for lunch and it’s a case of the earlier you get there, the better. At midday you don’t get any issues with lukewarm food, the meats are always excellent, they never give you the end piece of meat which as you say is a nice touch and at the one we go to the roast potatoes are always the stars of the show! In comparison the ones you were offered looked like they had been sat there for days…….shocking because you can’t have a roast without proper potatoes. I believe it’s the law. Congratulations on your numbers, well deserved 🥳

As far as cheap eats go, this isn't bad at all and probably quite healthy! Some of the expensive places really don't serve you with 80g portions of veg sometimes. How are we supposed to get our five-a-day?!

Been to Stonehouse a few times, and think you nailed it. Chains generally, all similar, and on my visits the food was lukewarm too. Nice, but could've been hotter. And I think you were unlucky re the roasties. Though with so few when you left the counter, me, I'd have mentioned it to staff knowing I'd be back, love roasties. Re ordering, I always 'big up' (pigs in B's etc), and always go for a bit of everything. It's not perfect, but value-wise, hard to complain, and I'd deffo go again.

There's a stonehouse near me and I go from time to time. It's by no means the best Sunday roast you'll ever have, the veg can be dry but it's is a carvery and has sometimes been sitting there a while. However it's always tasty the stuffing is good and the meat is always nice and tender. When you factor in the cost, its outstanding! Its the best value for money around in my opinion 👍
