Hello Sir, I’m working in this ship. Thank you so much for making this video and for giving a nice review. On behalf of all the crew and staff I would like to extend my gratitude for appreciating our full efforts and dedication to give our passengers a good experience on board. We’re looking forward to seeing you again on board Norröna.😊
If you like interesting ferry rides, try the Alaska State Ferry, pretty much any route. But the route that feels most like a cruise is from Bellingham to Juneau, Skagway, or Haines (or the reverse). Fly to one terminus, take the ferry for about 3 days, fly home from the other terminus. Spectacular scenery, spectacular wildlife, no glitz or commercialism.

This ship used to stop off at Scrabster (far north of mainland Scotland) on its way to Iceland. About 20 years ago I packed my tent on my bicycle and headed to the highland port. I couldn't afford a cabin; just slept on the deck. I remember there was a small cinema on the ship. I remember arriving in the beautiful village of Seyðisfjörður and cycling over the mountain to get to the Ring road. I cycled completely around the island; camped by glaciers, lava field and black sand beaches, then three weeks later I was back on board and I stopped of at Torshaven for three days. It was the journey of a life. Seyðisfjörður is the setting for the brilliant Icelandic nordic noir tv series "Trapped"; the Norrona also stars in the film. Great to see it again.
That was the old Norrøna you've been on then, the one that is used on the route now is newer, and bigger than the old one (the new one doesn't roll so much in bad weather as the old one did)
@@jakupmadsen490, I wondered about that, as I looked into taking my VW van to Island*, via Scrabster, in the 80s. It would've been my 2nd trip to Iceland, but ended up doing a 6 week trip around Norway instead. Happy days. *oops, used the Icelandic spelling by habit 😄 🇮🇸 🇸🇪 🇩🇰 🇳🇴 🇫🇴
Trapped was actually filmed and set in Siglufjörður on the north coast. The 82 and 76 coast road from Akureyri to Hofsós is probably my favourite road in Iceland (so far). They only used Seyðisfjörður for filming the arrival of the ship.

What a wonderful cruise. Makes you think why the Vikings went sailing just by chance and managed to sail across the whole of the North Atlantic and discovering islands on the way. Marvelous, I think I’m going to do that next year, way and back. ❤
Rarely have I seen such a beautiful, friendly travel report as yours. Not a trace of snobbery, absolutely unpretentious report intended for the average consumer. The narrator's heartwarming, generally positive nature with his lovely Scottish accent (at least I assume it's a Scottish accent, right?) do the rest. Thank you very much, Mr. Marsh!
Nothing better than watching a Steve Marsh video for half an hour on Saturday morning -- other than watching one for a (nearly) full hour! Thanks for yet another great video, Steve. Great presentation of a great ship and great trip. Sitting here in the flat lands of the American Midwest, the views and how you captured the atmosphere are absolutely stunning. What a wonderful trip. Just wonderful.
One of the best, if not THE best, video from you, Steve. What a fantastic journey on that amazing ferry. With every kind of facility you could wish for. Did well in the "choppy" swimming pool! Thanks for sharing. 😊 👍
Thanks so much Steve for the stowaway trip. It's long a dream of mine to travel the North Atlantic region between Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Scotland and its northern islands, and Norway of course where my grandparents came from , and my cousins who still reside, as I'm landlocked for a spell on Long Island doing my radiation treatments. What a beautiful ship. My Grandfather Tobias Eskeland from Mandal was first mate on a similarly beautiful steamship after emigrating to the States. He crewed between NY city and Boston back in the early 1910's till the 1940s. It's a grand tradition the North Atlantic people do so well. So you see the sea is in my blood too. I look forward to more journeys with your channel.
Steve, bumped into your channel, and I loved every bit of it. No background music- no-nonsense attitude, just plain video & beautiful scenery - wonderfully presented- loved it & watched it all to the end . Thanks for bringing this to us.
The "Bananas on a boat are bad luck" date back to the 1700's. Sailors believed it was bad luck because after a storm in which a ship carrying bananas sunk, only the bananas would be found floating on the water. Giving rise to that superstition that bananas would sink your boat. Fisherman also believed bananas would cause you not to catch fish. Sail-world has an interesting article about sailor superstitions includiing bananas, red heads and fridays.
Another martitime banana theory I heard was that a bunch rippens at the same time and don't last long, so sailors would find that they had no bananas to eat followed by having to eat all the bananas quickly before they went bad.
Wow what a great show you give us sad that you take all you can get free and don't pay a bit of what's on offer so you get everything you can get cheap.well if everyone else did the same then maybe god would help you cheapscapes and sad youake a great video but what help and advice you send out yeah you send advice to get what you can and
Sad you tell people how to get around paying And then when the company is struggling of passengers like you that don't want to pay .but grab anything free .sad .but me and lots of other people pay that's fair .but we do see people like you scaving
Who could’ve prepared us for all this wonderful-ness?! The sky, the land, and the ferry did not disappoint. So happy to experience this through your eyes. ❤ Many, many thanks. ☺️

Steve Marsh deserves every view he gets. You can see the effort he goes to in this video, out in the cold ensuring those winds where many RUclipsrs would just sit in their cabin or the bar throughout. Great job Steve 👍
This was absolutely one of your best, Steve! Somehow you manage to capture both the grand and the ordinary, finding interesting shots to capture both. And your appreciation and gratitude just shine through the commentary. The Norrona used to call at Lerwick, Shetland on its way between the Faroes and Denmark, so I took it from Torshavn to Lerwick back in 2006. I'm a Scot who's lived far away from home for decades, and I was almost in tears when you passed by Unst and Muckle Flugga. Thank you!
WOW! This is the best video of this type I've ever seen! Hands down, the best! I completely enjoyed the entire voyage. Just a fantastic job for an excellent topic. WOW again! Thanks!
I live a world away from all of this, west coast U.S. sitting on the couch on a Sunday morning with my wife dreaming of how we would do this trip. Fly to Iceland, two nights stay, then ferry to Denmark. I could never do a blog as well as this, just so good. Thank you so much.
Like all your ferry videos, I just love the joy of the journey that comes through. I was in Japan when you filmed this, and was on a number of ferries and thought of you as I spent every moment of each out in the fresh air, in the heat and the rain.
Other than your Scotland videos, your best yet Steve. My partner is Icelandic, my son is half Icelandic, half scottish so I can’t wait to see you in Iceland again.
That is one awesome video from one awsome ship. Great job, Mr Marsh! Smyril-Line should see this! Best advertising they ever had! Being Danish I’m sad to say I did not know of this ship, but right now wife and I decided to go next Summer.
As an Anglo/Scot (late mother from Elgin), your clarity of language made this post so enjoyable. I'm seventy-two; so getting to the northern tip of Denmark may pose a problem: but I would love to undertake this journey! Thank you so much fo posting.
Good to hear ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’ playing in the ship’s bar - although it might be a bit disconcerting for nervous passengers on a stormy night! I did the old Bergen-Seydisfjordur ferry trip in 1988. The world’s changed a lot since then but the Faroes and Iceland still look just as beautiful. Great video, thanks Steve.
Nice video,, as an Icelander ,, me and my wife have done many trips with the ferry,, we adore this kind of traveling, our destination is always the same, down to Nürburgring. i honestly think this is the first time i have seen a full video with such detailed information, thank you for your effort
Thank you, Steve! I was somewhere in the 40th minute when I realized the video was not about to end! 😊 It is so relaxed, so flowing, seemingly unscripted - yet there was a lot of effort involved. Thanks. Greetings from St.Petersburg, Russia!!!
You are so enthusiastic. I loved your reaction to the automatic window water. Looks like a great ferry ride. Approaching Iceland by the sea is unbelievable. Such an incredible place!! Thanks for another great video. You NEVER disappoint!!!

Steve, you are spot on concerning the choice of itinerary by the Smyril Line captains. When I was on board they chose a route smack through the Shetlands because the weather was so good. And my! Was that beautiful, I couldn't have imagined it like this.

@@tartanthing How did I miss that? Big Gordon L fan too! Need to watch it again now! 😂👍🎶⛴️
I thought I heard it!!! Glad others did, too.
Cheers Bob!
@@steve-marsh yes steve great video then mate
This one goes into the record book. Just breathtaking
Definitely one of the best Ferry Videos I've ever watched - Not to mention a fantastic Ship! Thank you!! 🙏
Steve, bumped into your channel, and I loved every bit of it. No background music- no-nonsense attitude, just plain video & beautiful scenery - wonderfully presented- loved it & watched it all to the end . Thanks for bringing this to us.
Your enthusiasm for ferries is infectious 😀 What an epic journey!
ferries plural ? It's his first time 😂😂😂😂😂 !
Another spectacular voyage. Thanks for taking all of us with you!
I have just received an email from Smyril Line recommending this video. It is a perfect circle!
Thank you Steve. The best episode ever. I am from Denmark, and I would love to travel to Iceland with this ferry.
Sounds like a load of bananas 😂
Must be the same sailors that stated you do not allow women wearing green knickers on a fishing trip boat....?
The sunset looked otherworldly. Hypnotic was exactly the right word.
Looks a little bit like a William Turner painting
Oh yes! Wasn't it beautiful! 🙋
Wow what a great show you give us sad that you take all you can get free and don't pay a bit of what's on offer so you get everything you can get cheap.well if everyone else did the same then maybe god would help you cheapscapes and sad youake a great video but what help and advice you send out yeah you send advice to get what you can and
Sad you tell people how to get around paying
And then when the company is struggling of passengers like you that don't want to pay .but grab anything free .sad .but me and lots of other people pay that's fair .but we do see people like you scaving
@@creepermk Exactly what I was thinking! Truly Turner-esque.
Who could’ve prepared us for all this wonderful-ness?! The sky, the land, and the ferry did not disappoint. So happy to experience this through your eyes. ❤ Many, many thanks. ☺️
Steve. I saved this for when I had time to relax observe and listen . All I can say is you are a well blessed talent (of course it's a shame your lovely lady was not with you.) You both deserve an award for brightening people's lives and widening their horizons. God bless you both. Thank you x
Steve the footage past Kalsoy was magical, utterly enchanting. Well done mate.
Only one word will cover this, Steve - Excellent. Thank you so much..
Finally, my favorite ferry and my favorite travel tuber combined - I’m in heaven!
That turned out to be a wonderful video so thanks from Dallas, Texas❤
Loving the Isle of Eigg hat x We got married there in 2003 and stayed at Sandavore Bothy when it was no electricity and gas mantles x We were married in the kitchen of the island registrar. Beautiful island and love the Shearwater. We always holiday in Scotland and consider it our happy place forever. Great video as usual 😆
nothing beats a huge feast on a ship, the ocean air, vast spreads of dishes and styles and gallons of ales, oh to be a Grasshopper again, top vid champ.
Perfect start to the day, this channel has been my ultimate find of the last month, can’t get enough of your positive attitude, your smiles and the beautiful trips you go on - much love from Germany!
I think I am watching too many of your videos, I am Welsh 🏴 and proud of it ,but I am now sporting a Scot’s accent 😅😅😅
Thank you!
Really appreciate this!
Steve! Such a brilliant video! As always, thank you so much for taking us all along with you on your incredible adventures!
WOW! This is the best video of this type I've ever seen! Hands down, the best! I completely enjoyed the entire voyage. Just a fantastic job for an excellent topic. WOW again! Thanks!
a whole hour?! you truly bless us!
I live a world away from all of this, west coast U.S. sitting on the couch on a Sunday morning with my wife dreaming of how we would do this trip. Fly to Iceland, two nights stay, then ferry to Denmark. I could never do a blog as well as this, just so good. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the journey and tour Steve 😊
What an epic and amazing trip and the arrival through the fjords was just incredible. One of your best videos without a doubt 😊
Absolutely fantastic.
Loved coming along. ❤️
New subscriber. I enjoyed the video very much and appreciate your sense of humor as well.
One of the best hours I've spent on RUclips ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just thinking the very same thing during the last couple of minutes of the video. Superb!! Better than any main stream TV for sure!
That was an amazing trip, the sight of the Faroes and Iceland by dawn are a photographers dream. and just memories you'll never forget.
Nice video,, as an Icelander ,, me and my wife have done many trips with the ferry,, we adore this kind of traveling, our destination is always the same, down to Nürburgring.
i honestly think this is the first time i have seen a full video with such detailed information, thank you for your effort
Excellent way to spend the extra hour we get this weekend!
Thank you, Steve! I was somewhere in the 40th minute when I realized the video was not about to end! 😊 It is so relaxed, so flowing, seemingly unscripted - yet there was a lot of effort involved. Thanks. Greetings from St.Petersburg, Russia!!!
Thanks so much!
@@steve-marshyou are welcome!! Keep up the good work.
How old are you and how much younger are you than Scott from "Planes, trains..."? 😁😁😁
@@steve-marsh nice one m8
That is my dream cruise!!
Great video Steve. What an adventure! Thanks for taking us along. That arrival into Iceland looked like pure magic.
You are so enthusiastic. I loved your reaction to the automatic window water. Looks like a great ferry ride.
Approaching Iceland by the sea is unbelievable. Such an incredible place!! Thanks for another great video. You NEVER disappoint!!!
The Norröna is a magnificent vessel and well done Smyril Line. That was impessive Steve, the way you filmed your swim in the pool, without dunking your GoPro. 👍
Wow! More like a cruise ship than a ferry!
Brilliant, Steve. Thanks for taking us along for the ride
Waited all week for this. This channel is a one man bucket list!
Always impressed how you seem to walk everywhere Steve. Good for you.
Excellent video Steve! Your relaxed and engaging style is so enjoyable to watch and you really feel you are in the journey too. Thanks
One of your best videos, just brilliant, thank you for taking us along with you 👍💙
I grew up just 25 minute drive from Hirtshals (now live in Texas) and I wasn’t aware that this route is available from Hirtshals. Definitely something I want to check out next time I’m back in Denmark. Thank you for sharing!
Och, to the whingers and penny pinchers on here! Will yous no stop yer greetin' and just enjoy a brilliant video by a great guy, eh! Cheers now. 🤫😬😁🙋👍🇮🇪🏴
Some waste of money and more importantly time, place is a Dump
Your channel is better than Netflix, many thanks for another superb video Steve!😊😊
It is spelled Notflix😂
I too am not sure how I got to this channel, but what a lovely experience-need to extend my plans visiting Denmark and head back to Iceland this way!!
Beautiful sunrise on arrival at Iceland…such a beautiful ferry with so many amenities
Steve, you are spot on concerning the choice of itinerary by the Smyril Line captains. When I was on board they chose a route smack through the Shetlands because the weather was so good. And my! Was that beautiful, I couldn't have imagined it like this.
Such a pleasant guy. My wife, our young daughters and I are Norwegian. My father has a fish processing plant in Hirtshals. We love Iceland but always fly there. The boat looks really nice. We’re both due to give birth in about 7 weeks but we’ll be sure to take this trip early in the New Year, hopefully with some close friends. Enjoyable video ~ thank you. Great tip about the fridge pack by the way.

*Awesome content. Binge watching all the wee videos now lol*
I was so excited after last week's video that I read ahead and watched other videos of this journey. Yours is by far the best and infused with such joy! I loved your excitement at seeing the far north of Scotland. Seriously talking to my husband about doing this trip as part of a trans-Atlantic crossing. Thank you!
This was an absolutely wonderful watch. It feels like the jewel in the Marsh crown to date! So many highlights, including that first mystical/foggy sunset on deck, navigating the departure from Torshavn, and of course the early morning approach to Iceland. Many thanks for taking us with you!
The buildings on Faroe are Beautiful ✊🏼
Thank you! You've taken me on one of my wish list journeys and helped me see it in a positive light. its always great journeying with you!
Another great trip from Steve 'I won't get lost' Marsh, this is a classic showing us someone no others have.
Looking forward to the rest of the trip.
Keep up the good work!
New Subscriber. Outstanding sir. I love your commentary, thoughtfulness, and open minded approach to visiting new and exciting places. One sign of a great video is that you lose track of time . Every second of the video I felt like I was with you on this adventure. Thank you for all of your time put in to record, edit, and share with all of us. You are without question the type of person I would want as a best friend. Thanks for making our world view a little clearer and brighter.
Couldn't have said it better, Greg! That's why I follow him for a long time already😊
A hour long Steve Marsh video! Count me in!!!! 😀😀😀
Had to interpret 'taps aff' for hubby lol and he was so disappointed to see it wasn't ladies when he did a rewind. Great video, Steve. Many thanks.
