- Another enjoyable voyage, but how good was the W.B. Yeats? This is a fairly new ship, but new doesn't automatically mean everything will be perfect. Join me on board with a look around public areas, my cabin and the food available for purchase. Enjoy the video!

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is both my business model and a result of doing everything myself. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips! But more than anything else, it's about budgets. I generally need to film a number of videos on each trip to break even. And each one of these take a while to fall into place on a Saturday morning.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotel prices especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a 9-5 job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links in here for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for RUclips Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Respect for not using P&O after the way they treated their workers, Steve. Great vlogs by a man of principle!
You DO know that PO copied Irish Ferries who did the same only a couple of years earlier. Clearly not.
@@derektaylor2941i dont think most Brits know anything about that, only about P&O’s actions.
@@shetlandsheep3081 yes Irish ferries did the same in Dec 2005 management unilaterally issued proposals to sack 543 directly employed seafarers and replace them with migrant labour, they also reflagged all its vessels with a flag of convivence
I’m torn on this one, they are not the only company to do that and when I do travel on P&O, usually from Larne to Cairnryan you have to feel for the replacement staff who are being paid a pittance and do a fantastic job, just trying to earn a better living than they can at home. No matter which route I take from Ireland to England, Wales, Scotland, France or Spain there never seem to be any Irish staff on any of them. Yes I travel on them all.
I’ve been on this ferry a few times, most recently in June this year with my motorcycle. My biggest complaint is the extortionate price of food and drinks on board, by contract the Brittany ferries are much more reasonable.
As a Dubliner I can say, as much as I love my city and country, we are being fleeced in the hospitality sector. Love your videos Steve.
This man needs a million subs what a legend serious lack of ferry reviews but Steve’s videos make up for it
Cheers! More to come!
Don’t apologise for a long intro, it’s all part of the journey. Thanks for sharing mate, great videos and humour 😊
Steve you have no idea how much these videos mean to me. I have anxiety to the hilt, can't travel alot but when I do its only on ferries and I love the sea. Seeing these videos gives me a feeling of being there every step of the way
Heard that the cure for anxiety is more responsibility. Might have been Jordan Peterson.
@@derekwatson7037 I have my own phrase to say to yourself in such circumstances, be it anxiety, procrastination, depression reinforcing from wastefulness and untidiness - and that is , " The therapy is in the doing ". You get better by just doing something. Doesn't have to be all you need to do or even to do what you get through particularly well, but just to do something of it. Little steps lead to larger ones later. The therapy is in the doing.
@@derekwatson7037Not necessarily so. It all depends on the individual I think. 🙂🙏🕊️🙏
@@Fat_Cat_747 Very true....that first step is a very difficult one. Once you've taken a few more the anxiety melts away.
Hello dear. I truly empathise with your situation. And I do wish others who thinks they know the answer to everyone else's problem would stop and think for a moment, and begin to understand that each individual has different ways and means of dealing with life's issues. We are all different and have individual coping mechanisms that enables us to live our lives the best we can. 🙋🙏🕊️🙏
I love the fact that 1st thing you hear when you go in the outdoors smokers area is someone hacking a lung up
Haha noticed that in the edit too :D
😂
Irish ferries got Eastern European security and escorted every Irish worker of the ships and replaced them with Latvians for half minimum wage that's why the Irish breakfast looks so undercooked ,those ferries would always be full but most people from Ireland would not get on one ever since.

Author Paul Theroux once said of travelling by train vs. plane - if you don't like the person you're setting next to, on a train you can go somewhere else. On a plane you can't. The same applies to coaches vs. ferries - if you don't like your fellow Flixbus passenger, tough luck. Also, kudos for avoiding P&O. We have long memories!!! Great video mate.
Irish Ferries did what P&O did, just a few years earlier. They also fired all their local staff in the 00s and replaced them with cheaper international staff. Notice how the ship wasn't Irish registered, but Cyprus?
Cheers Scott! Aye, although I had the Flix experience still to come on this trip! :D
I don’t use P&O. Thumbs up Steve.
But would you use Irish Ferries? P&O copied exactly the same mass fire and re-hire as PO did. But somehow that seems to have been overlooked.

@@steve-marsh it wasn't a dig at you at all, Steve. Not in the slightest. Apologies if it looked like a criticism.
I really like your videos, especially ferries.
I found a travel video of Steves in my feeds so i decided to watch it and now weeks later i have seen from the Orkney islands to skye and England, Steves travels are very enjoyable.
Yes, you pronounced Yeats (sounds like yates) correctly. He was one of Ireland's most revered poets and writers, if not the most revered. Won a Nobel prize.
He is the National Poet.
From school,66 years ago,I can still remember reams of his poetry.Into Madame Blavatsky, and all that!
I'm happy that you were in the right place/time to video the pilot boarding the ship. I replayed that part several times. Amazing skills needed for everyone involved.
I love how excited you get! Most people seem to lose that sense of childhood wonder.
And we love you Steve. True to the budget traveller. You never wavered. Fair play to you and Alicja.
Yet another brilliant production. You always make the most of your travels and you are a joy to watch. Long may you continue and don't be afraid to try a nice long train journey. I would love to see that
Another excellent video. I was on a Scotrail HST once and it had a quote on there from Robert Louis Stevenson. It said "I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move." It sums up what you were saying about travelling because you enjoy it.
definitely, the feeling of freedom is exhilarating when travelling, which you lose when arriving.
Nothing better to my morning coffee then another Steve`s voyage :)
An perfect combination. By the way Steve, you are a legend!
I could not stay in a cabin with no view , as claustrophobia would spoil the trip. If you had booked a sea view cabin how much extra would that have been?
@@BrianJ001 Not Steve, but I happened to use Irish ferries few times - It`s usually 20-30 euro more so not much of a difference, but it also depends on which ferry will you be travelling.
And obviously cabins with window are usually sold out sooner, so sometimes you may not have a choice.
From my end - I just wish it would be a bit cheaper. I wanted to do a short trip for 2-3 days with my teenage son, and ferry both ways for 2xfoot passenger and 2 berth cabin is around 500 euro. I can get flights to Paris or Bordeaux for 2 passengers below 100e.
I hate airports, but for 5 times less money its really hard to beat
"But I don't use P&O"
Like for that alone. 👍
The crossings from Dublin, Rosslare and Cork to France and Spain are so much better value than the Irish sea crossings, despite often being the same ships.
Hmmmm!
Cracking video nevertheless 😊😊😊😊😊
Out on deck I couldn't stop thinking of Father Jack sitting there in his chair, bottle in hand, his hair flapping about in the wind. Shouting out his usual curses at the sea.
Feck, wind, girls 😂
“More water”

Ohhh 😂😂😂😂😂! 👍

Living in Arizona, US, and very landlocked- taking a long ferry ride looks like a dream! The food looked delicious, even though it was expensive. Fun trip!
I live in Ontario ,Canada and far from the sea as well . I have friends in Norway and took the same ferry from Oslo to Copenhagen last year that Steve took in a previous video . Would I do it again ? You bet .
North Wall is the name of that area of Dublin - as the name might suggest, it was the North Wall of the port, but more infill has happened - where you were is all reclaimed land as it is, but the seat came right up to where the roundabout is now. That Dunnes has only recently opened after a ridiculously long legal challenge; it will open as a full department store in time. We do have M&S as well, Dunnes target a little bit below them in market terms.

First class Saturday morning entertainment . Thoroughly enjoyed 🙂🙂
I always drive to the UK from Ireland. I love the freedom of being able to mix the journey up, stopping whenever & wherever I want.
Yes Ryanair has its place but it’s great to be able to pack ridiculous amount of luggage into the car and bring back cheaper items from England. I miss Asda & Sainsbury’s.
We emigrated to Canada when I was 4 from Scotland. We returned to visit family this past July and felt so at home that... in the spring of next year we are moving to the homeland❤

Agree 100% Steve, the journey is THE best part of the holiday and the longer it takes, the better, especially when it's train and ferry! (Maybe less so for flying!)

The way you make these videos, I feel like you are making them for me personally. Then I scroll down to the comments only to find out that thousands of other people watch this too. Thanks for making great videos. You are inspiring me to do something similar but I don't live in an area with easy access to so many beautiful places. I'm in the middle of North Texas. As a Marylander I was shocked when I saw Maryland Crab cakes on the menu for a Dublin to Cherbourg ferry. 😮 and it even mentioned Old Bay. 😮😮. When I was in Ireland in 2022 never saw it there and we looked and asked folks. Keep up the good, informative and entertaining work.
As an 82 yo here in Adelaide your video reminded me of my many trips Holyhead ti Dun Laoghaire( now Dublin) - wish we had Irish Ferries then- most interesting programme🇮🇪🇦🇺
Irish Ferries is the old B&I
As a child, I always thought the travel day was possibly the best part of the holiday. It's been a long time since I travelled on a ferry (need to remedy that) so most of my journeys these days involves an airport and I have to say, nowadays, the overcrowding and selfish behaviour from so many people is a big turn-off and travelling doesn't hold the same joy for me as it once did. Thank goodness there's people like you and Scott who do it for us...
Great video, Steve. I love ships, ferries, etc. I have been on many cruises and for me the best part is when we are at sea. Looking forward to your Cherbourg adventure. Cheers
Oh! How remiss of me to forget to mention W.B.Yeats' wonderful poetry! Fantastic to see some of it on board! 👍🙏🕊️🙏🇮🇪🏴
And his famous brother artist Jack Yeats .let me know if you may have any for sale ?
I favourite time on a ferry is the early morning when few people are up and the sun is coming up over the sea. Bliss.
You're right Steve, the journey is a great part of any trip. Most especially the journey home afterwards.
Very enjoyable!!! Thanks for taking us along, Steve. Much appreciated.

We are off to Cherbourg next week on the Yeats, for the fourth year in a row, for a touring holiday in France. The 17 hours actually goes quite quickly, by the time you have dinner, have a sleep , then have breakfast. We enjoy it.
You're right, not exciting but still a good trip. I love being out at sea and ferries offer a no-nonsense trip out on the ocean. Thanks for another great ferry video.

I couldn't agree with you more Steve, it's not about the destination, the journey is definitely the best part. I visited Cherbourg in 1976 on board SS Australis (previously SS America) on a journey from New Zealand to UK. Almost 5 weeks of fun and good times. I totally love ship travel and it was really nice to join you on board this ferry trip. The food looked excellent. Cheers from NZ.

I love the way you do these videos Steve. I always feel like I'm there with you, and often feel disorientated for a short while when they reach the end. I've been binge watching a few I've missed, and have enjoyed every one. Thanks Steve!
Excellent again Steve. The great south wall built to prevent silt and maintain a clear channel into Dublin. Apparently was the longest sea wall in the world when built in late 18th century at almost 3 miles. Its counterpart the North Bull wall was originally surveyed in 1801 by none other than Captain Bligh of the bounty fame! Kevin
You did Dublin proud on this video Steve, it looked really well. The walk to the Poolbeg lighthouse is really great as is Howth. Come back to Dublin anytime
I remember getting trams to Howth and back (Sutton?) many, many years ago! And at the time when they would have been a tourist attraction, they scrapped them!!!

27:08 so refreshing to hear someone saying that the journey is often the best bit of travelling 🎉 I think people are sometimes almost embarrassed to admit this!!
When you are aboard and the ship is moving go to the pursers desk and see what upgrades are available.
You might be amazed.
What I love about ferries is that they are like an hotel that is moving, you go to your room and the next day you are at a different place.

At 15:00 those people were walking on the South Bull Wall, a popular walk for Dubliners. A great spot to watch the traffic in and out of the port.
the one thing i can say about in Ireland is that they are not miserly at all when it comes to their portion sizes so the food cost is actually worth it and its really nice as well into the bargain.
American opinion for what it's worth. Here some of us still carry lunchboxes. If you carry a thermos in your lunch box, even if it's empty to get on a plane, train, or boat...on board or at the station, or in your case the boat cafeteria they probably service hot water for teas or coffee. If they don't charge you could take some hot water back to your room for a cup of tea or that soup. Just a thought.
Hi Steve, yeah back in the day my wife and I used to love the ferry. Used to go to bed at 5pm, get up and out of the house at midnight, leave Aboyne (Aberdeenshire) and I would aim to be at Dover for the 9am ferry. We did this for years until the kids came along then caravan holidays were the thing. Then air travel was really cheap so we used that for holidays but I’m due to retire in a few years and I think I’d love to do the kind of trips that you do!
Cheers Steve, great video as usual!👍👏👏👏❤️

In the Irish language the number three is trí, which sounds similar to tree. As a rule we don't pronounce TH's in English well due to our own language not having the TH sound.

It's a palatised T. We also do a palatised D but English speakers can't all hear it. It's between a 'th' and a 't' sound. To most English people it sounds like a straight t or d. If you recall the word 'doras' for door, the d in it is palatised.
