The SUMMER Ferry to Bergen! Fjordline from Stavanger To Bergen, Norway...

- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2024
- A Norwegian fjord cruise is high on my list, but I don't quite have the budget for it, so a ferry trip it is! The only problem is I decided to do it in summer and it would appear our neighbours across the North Sea have quite similar summers to us over here in Scotland :D Join me today and we'll see past the weather (hopefully) to enjoy this short voyage up the Norwegian coastline from Stavanger to Bergen. It's definitely cheap, but is it worth doing?...
Filmed on Monday 10th July 2023 in Norway.

Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature as often as possible, but I'm afraid she has a proper job so it can take weeks for our schedules to match up.
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free.
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links below for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for RUclips Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

I was trying to explain to my wife why I love this channel. I couldn’t! It’s a bloke wandering around industrial areas looking for his ferry port or stuffing his face with a buffet breakfast or discussing public transport on the Faroe Islands. Sounds boring but it really isn’t. Many thanks, Steve.
Your comment alone has made me become a subscriber.
No... it's boring.
I know exactly what you mean! I've tried to get people to watch as I know they would love it but it seems TV is more appealing 😉 Not to me! They're missing a treat, I'm totally hooked!
I agree with you. I’m ashamed to say that I always love seeing what food is on offer (eyes bigger than my belly) and industrial shipping etc is super interesting.
I think we all might dream of being Steve...but then, he does stuff we never think of doing...and his persona appeals to something in us all...he has that unspoken gift...
Hi Steve, my dad recently passed away, we had his funeral on Tuesday and in his last few days of his life he was telling me about a trip he made with the scouts back in 1955....to Bergen !. I couldn't believe it when your video popped up on my home page this morning 😊❤. Just him and 7 other adventure scouts were dropped off in Bergen and told to find their way to Oslo with just a map and a compass (no mobile phones in those days 😂). He absolutely loved that trip, and loved life. Telling us about his trip and sharing his memories gave him great comfort in his final days. Thank you so much for making this video, and for sharing it. It brought a tear to my eye.
I just can't stop smiling from ear to ear watching your videos. I can't really explain why, but your channel is just so candid
Wow, thank you!

Very nice Ferry. Looks a bit like a mini cruise ship
Now housebound having travelled and lived worldwide..I'm so enjoying my virtual travel with you Steve..it feels as though I'm there..
Steve, in my opinion, the weather made your footage even more spectacular.
More atmospheric eh! Clouds in the trees especially!
My grandfather immigrated to America from Norway just before the turn of the 20th century. He was born on the island of Senja in Norway. He died in 1945. He became a Baptist minister, and was a circuit preacher in Tripp county South Dakota before South Dakota was even a state. He and his father (and the rest of the family) moved out to the Pacific Northwest. Both of them are buried in a cemetery in Portland Oregon. I have this yearning to go to Norway and spend a lot of time there looking around where he was born and just getting to know the country of my ancestors. I really appreciate this post.
So glad you enjoyed it, and I can see Norway means a lot to you, wish you a trip there soon!
Senja is perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Quite a distance away from Bergen geographically and culturally.
@t00b3z True! Visit Lofoten islands as well, correctly called the most beautiful region in NO
I know I'm maybe a bit late, but I'll just clarify about the announcement at 16.06. Basically, the ship has a very short turnaround time in Bergen, only around 1 hour. Therefore, people have to check out of their cabins a couple of hours in advance, so the crew has time to clean the cabins before the next passengers
Best video I've seen from you so far. Thank you. Norway is paradise even when it's rainy. The ferry was majestic and believe me better than a cruise ship.
When you said you didn't have anything to eat or you hadn't bought anything all I could do was smile and shake my head. You do realize this is not the first time you've traveled aboard Ferry on the Sunday? I'm glad you finally got some food it looks delicious. And of all ferry's, although there aren't a whole lot, that I've been on with you, I like this one the best. Thank you so much for the work you do to bring these videos to us. Say hi to Alicia. Be well, stay safe, travel dry, love from Texas.
Haha typical eh! I had banked on that supermarket being open, but I really got caught out (again) will I ever learn!?
This video for me steve ,brought back so many memories..I used to see this ferry sail past us most days,I felt like I was coming home watching this video.i was in karmoy for 3 years and used to fly back and forth from Stavanger .and before that I was in Bergen off and on for a few years,Norway for me is my second home.absolutely love Norway and the people.
Another brilliant Saturday morning video as always Steve. Thank you 👍
Really appreciate it thanks :)
Im a chief officer on ferries in Norway and I must say i really enjoy your videos :D
Hey thanks so much! Great to hear from you!
@@steve-marsh hope you do Color Line’s ferries sometime too 🤩 Or Hurtigruten
You do have luck with the weather, in the end it was fabulous with the clouds just over the trees and all the multi coloured homes along the shore. What a gorgeous video, the ferry was fantastic as well. Looking forward to the comparison next week. Another Steve Marsh winner. ❤
You're right actually, it turned out very atmospheric. I was dreading the forecast of heavy rain all the way, that would have been a wipeout!
You handled it so well, barely noticed the rain, the filming as always was really excellent and loved the choice of music. As always a wonderful journey to take us along on. 😍
Beautiful Bergen, it’s a shame the ferry stopped running from North Shields ( Port of Tyne ) to Bergen. I hope you had a trip on the Floibanen, it’s amazing. Loved cruising the fjords, Flam is my favourite! Thank you Steve, loved this video… memories ❤
Ya !
I sure did - coming next week :)
@@steve-marsh I will look forward to that, hope you enjoyed it! I loved it!
Yes, years ago I did that trip from Shields to Bergen. Fantastic!
Not the worst weather…seems that there was little to no wind. That’s a bonus! That ferry certainly was one of the nicest I’ve seen. Thanks so much for taking us along. ATB
You are spot on, a bit of wind would have made it even more challenging Erin!
Good morning all, and nice one again......nice to see Norway gets Scottish summers too. Gotta love a ferry video!
Haha yes very familiar weather!
Did this more than fifty years ago from North shields. The North Sea was cruel to us! Loved Norway, but soooooo expensive. Thanks for taking us along and jogging my memory.
I'd love to see that route back again!
@steve-marsh
Try P & O Cruises they go to Norway. Lovely but drinks onboard are expensive.
I'm always blown away by these Scandinavian videos you do. Absolutely stunning. Great work mate!
Cheers Scott! Seriously mate, the region makes for and easy filming trip. The scenery does the hard work and everyone seems more than happy to welcome RUclipsrs! I was in the Canning Museum in Stavanger, and when the guy realised I was making videos for RUclips, he cranked the machine on for me to film it. I found Norway to be the country where 'have a nice day' is said with genuine sincerity. It's expensive, but worth the supplement! :)
Blimey, that port is quite utilitarian makes Aberdeen look like the Emerald City 😂. The cruise upstream makes it well worth the rumbling tum. Stunning work as always Steve.
Cheers Janine, I wondered where I'd landed at first! :D
Bergen the first location i went to abroad, i hate to think now how long ago, I was 15 ( now 76) it was a 2 week trip with the Boy Scouts. Kilts compulsory, But the local girls were interested in some old Scottish tradition regarding the wearing of them. made for a good ice breaker. Then it was a cruise up the Sonja Fijord to Ballestrand, then a coach to Voss, finally, a train to Oslo and back to Bergen. 2 of the most enjoyable weeks of my life. I have always wanted to return, but dont recognise this Bergen , only the venicular railway, which is a must , the view from the top over the harbour is fantastic
Well it's been a pleasure watching your clips. One can visit Europe without leaving the comfort of ones home. Well thanks Steve
Thanks so much! More to come from this (rainy!) trip :)
As well as being an excellent travel doco, your choice of music is spot on 🏴
My 6th grade teacher was Norwegian. Loved seeing your trip this weekend. My first experience with Norway was in the Navy when we retreated into a fjord overnight during storms in the north Atlantic. Stunning scenery. Thanks again for your weekly experience. ❤
Wow that sounds like some adventure! Cool memories!
Your video format is so simple, yet so beautiful elegant.
Another winner Steve !!! The time passed by so fast 24:57...:):):)
Stunning scenery!! Thank you. XX
Beautiful and interesting, as usual. Thanks for taking us along 😊
Thanks so much :)
We're also on the same ferry as you, and the classic cars at the end are two of ours, we're five in total on our way home to Bergen from a Classic VW meet in Denmark. These two are a black VW Karmann Ghia convertible and a VW Type3 Variant or Squareback. It's the shortest drive to any VW meet we're going to. Just a 15 to 30 minutes drive in Bergen to the ferry, and 45 minutes in Denmark... Anyway, a nice video! Thank You!!!
Even despite the weather what a stunning trip Steve, the clouds were spectacular at times👌In case anybody is wondering that isn't Scottish, deid means dead (as in very quiet)😂Cracking video once again mate👍
Haha cheers for the translation mate :)
Great stuff. So atmospheric. Although the breakfast made me hungry 😄
Mate I've never BEEN so hungry!
Wow. That arrival into Bergen was stunning. Stunning! Incredible montage, Steve. Funny thing, I literally just booked that very same journey for later in the year. I was too tight to add the lounge to my booking, so I'll definitely look into it! I'm always learning something from your videos. (I'll be popping over to Latvia afterwards, and I've learned I need to pay close attention if I head out of Riga by train... what an adventure you had there, right?! 😱) Thanks for another beautiful, practical, inspiring video Steve. Can't wait for the next one! Cheers, Tom
Oh thanks for reminding me mate :D Hey, you'll love this ferry, even in my weather!
In the 1970s my parents and I took the ferry from Newcastle to Bergen, almost 24 hours on a mini cruise ship across the stormy North Sea. Bergen is beautiful, an old Hanseatic port like Bremen where I also lived, and we took the funicular up to the cloudy peak where we could see only white below us. We then took the Fjord Express Boot to Lavik on the Sognefjord, probably the most exciting boat ride I've ever been on: those boats looked like an MTB hull with an aircraft-type cabin grafted on, powered by massive diesels in the back that pushed us to 40 knots or more. Wow! I still have fond memories of Norway, and would love to go back there again (if I can afford it...) and take the Hurtigruten ferries all the way north to Bodo and Kirkenes.
Amazing! Norway looks very beautiful! The views & scenery from this awesome ship are so beautiful & dramatic! The ship itself is outstanding, including the decor, the cleanliness & the design of the ship. I also loved the trees, greenery & foliage around the Restaurants & other areas within the ship. That was so unique as well. Not to mention the delicious looking food at the Buffet. All of this, along with your making shadow puppets on the wall at the Hotel..LOL & your quirky & funny remarks at times, made this whole voyage totally unique & thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you for sharing this delightful experience!
Haha thanks so much Annie, you could tell I was struggling to sleep in the hotel room :D
Absolutely loved this.. what a beautiful ferry.. we could learn something.. going on my first cruise to Norwegian Fjords so interesting too x thank you
Thanks for this lovely film showing of our fantastic Western Norway! As you can see, our beautiful weather comes directly from Bonnie Scotland! ☝️😁 (My second favorite country!) - Love from Bergen! ❤️❤️
Hi!!!! Haha yes whether I recognise well! But like I say in Scotland and Norway both - they look great in ANY weather :)
Hi Steve this made my Day watched your Video again loved this trip from Bergen how i wish this route would be Reintroduced.thank you again for bringing back so many memoriies
This ferry is one that travels between Bergen and Hirtshals in Denmark. The ferry between the UK, Newcastle, and Norway stopped sailing in 2008, ish. There is talk of it starting up again.
Great Video as usual Steve. Been to Bergen a few times and to be honest it does often make Scottish weather look fine and settled ! Hopefully it improved for you.
I can highly recommend the Hurtigruten costal trips - they are primarily carrying supplies to communities along the coast of Norway so you are never short of something to see as they make various stops where they load/unload and some of the stops are long enough to disembark for a short time. The scenery is truly spectacular. We went from Tromso to Kirkenes at the tip of Norway on the border with Russia on a quest to see the Northern Lights - very funny when the Captain announced over the tannoy a sighting of the Northern Lights and the dining room emptied mid meal !
It’s certainly worth thinking about what season to go as I can vouch for the fact the seas can get very rough even though the ship is still generally hugging the coastline- maybe a summer trip to see the “midnight sun” ? A further consideration is the cost - very pricy but on the plus side I think you could record enough footage for several u tube videos !
Another excellent travelogue. We really enjoy your reflections, your detail and direction. Thanks Steve!
Really appreciate it Janis!
I simply love your video's Steve......with you all the way, and back ! just the ticket, on a cold rainy weekend !
Aww thanks so much!!!
Outstanding video watch ever second of it you sir are amazing 😘
Thank you so much 😀
loved this video Steve. We were on a Norwegian Fjord cruise a couple of weeks ago and it was just stunning. We docked in Haugesand next to the Penguins 😂. And yes the weather is typical for Norway! I fell in love with Norway and the people are just lovely too. This has made me want to go back very soon ❤ Thanks as always fir a great video. 😊
Wow that's the way to do it!
Love your amiable personality as you share your travel experiences . I chose to watch this video since I am travelling to Bergen for a Hurtigruten cruise up the coast to Kirkesen in October 2024. Thank you for searching out cafes and lounges . Mary of Ontario, 🇨🇦
Great video as always.. Really enjoyed this one.. I was in Norway in the spring and visited Oslo and the Lofoten Islands( stunning) and I have Bergen on my wish list.. This looks like a great option to go there.. Thanks so much !!!
Oh Lofoten is an absolute dream for me, one day!
That was super interesting, loved the wind towers in the mist
Cheers! Sometimes bad weather can be a blessing :)
Fantastic video! Gorgeous scenery, and even the weather made it look beautiful! Thanks for standing in the rain for us for those views!
An absolute pleasure! :)
What a shame that the weather wasn’t on your side. The coast of Norway is truly stunning. The skill of the navigation up some of the channels is breathtaking. We found that all the ferries along that coast are cruise standard. Still a treat. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Yeah, it was a bit damp but I always say - could have been worse! :D
The weather actually lends additional mystique 😉What a wonderful journey! Thank you for taking us along. Solid move on opting for the buffet. 👍🏼
So glad it cleared a little, was looking dodgy for a moment :D
Very nice Steve m8. Our holiday plans are torn between The Faroer island, the Azoren and....... Norway, one part of that trip would be this very journey. Your vlogs help but they make it so difficult. You aren't going to the Azoren by any chance 😊.
Brilliant journey that and that wee bit rain...... everything looks better in rain, greener and the rocks always look best when wet. I'd say you still got good weather👍😁
That's a good way to look at it mate! Haha I'll complete your destination list one day! :D
Mornin Steve wow that ship looks amazing too bad the weather turned but you still had interesting views but when you docked looked fantastic can’t wait til next week well done 😘🌸🌼
Thanks Linda! I guess the weather could always have been worse :D
Looks like that was a really nice ferry. I haven't been to Bergen but I would like to go there by train from Oslo one of these days. I have read that the 7 hour train journey is very scenic.
It's a great journey! I did it in pretty awful weather, but will try to cobble a wee video together on it!
What a charming video! The ferry is beautiful and that buffet looked scrumptious! I didn’t even mind the weather.
Thanks Patricia! Without that buffet there would have been no video! :D
Loved the views from the ship. Especially when the mountains seem to disappear into the clouds. Can’t wait to see the follow up video next week 👍
In the end the weather was fairly atmospheric! :) Thanks, editing the next one right now!
Another great vid Steve! Would love to see you on a cruise, I believe some of the MSC cruise ships let you start and end your journey at any point on the ships itinerary so you could just be onboard for a day or 2
Oh really!? You've got me thinking!
Loved the journey - it was atmospheric what with the clouds swooping in . The ship was extremely clean and well appointed . Nice to see the communities passing by as also the different ships . Thanks Steve .
Nice video. Never been on the ferry between Stavanger(Tananger) and Bergen. 2 places where you need to be lucky with the weather (especially Bergen, the city with most rain in northern europe)
Still like both Stavanger and Bergen. 2 very nice cities when it isn't raining. Nice old houses in some parts of the cities, lovely views of the fjord if you know where to go and other places to see as wellnif you stay long enough. See you are going to Stavanger in next video. Hope you went to preikestolen/pulpit rock even if it would be a full day to do it (and easier if you have a car). I used to live in Stavanger and Sandnes.
Sadly I was only in both cities for a few hours so didn't get the change to do any out-of-town trips, but there will always be a next time!
@@steve-marsh found your channel when you visited Gothenburg where I live now. I like how you do different ways to travel (not only flights). Also a grrat choice to go to the archipelago in Gothenburg. Keep it up with your great job!
what a gorgeous place❤

A really interesting beautiful route!
I'm always looking forward to my weekly "Lunch with Steve". That's just the most convenient time for me to settle down with a plate of food and enjoy the new video :)
Another great video! I would definitely like to visit Norway one day. Looks absolutely stunning!
Cheers Martin! Really appreciate it :)
Nice scenery.
Beautiful part of the world Mike!
They most likely had to vacate their cabins when you heard the announcement.
Ahhh makes sense!
The narrow sound in the middle of the video is where the name "Northern Way" comes from - as it is the only route north by sea that avoids the open sea.
It is also where the original capitol of the united nation was situated - at those small islands at the very narrowest point.
Bergen is the most beautiful town/city in Norway. It is far more prettier than Oslo. Stavanger is..... oil. For some reason, Oban reminded me of Bergen the first time I visited Oban 27 years ago. Maybe I am barking mad or I had too much of that Oban single malt. Or was I barking mad ? Great video !! We need to restore the ferry between Newcastle and Bergen. Btw I have had two ex-workmates moving back from Glasgow to Bergen because it was far too much more rain in Glasgow/Greenock than Bergen.....
Haha I believe it! Aye, I really wish that ferry would make a return!
Bergen actually has roughly 1.75x the annual precipitation of Glasgow, but only ~30 more annual rainy days on average. The "winners" vary from one year to another, but Bergen always competes in the top 5 for most annual rainfall and most rain days in European cities each year, sometimes winning one or both categories. May and June are usually the dryest months if you decide to give Norway another go, this was pretty unfortunate. Would recommend going further north though. The west coast is pretty, but it gets absolutely stunning further north :)
Wow Steve what a beautiful ship I think you did the right thing investing in 13£ for your drinks the breakfast looked wonderful thanks for the video John 😊
Cheers John! Not like me to buy lounge access, but it was a bargain in the end!
I thought the scenery was beautiful and the overcast/rainy weather made it even more atmospheric - but then I didn't have to get wet to film it!
Haha it was worth it! But certainly a challenge at times out there on deck on my own :D
Steve, I just discovered this channel a couple weeks ago, and I love it! I’m devouring as much of it as I can! Total binge watching!
Keep up the great work, my friend!
Norway looks stunning and the clouds and rain only improved it in my opinion. I just disembarked the Grand Princess last Saturday after spending a week through Alaska’s inside passage and I have to say, your ferry was much, much fancier! (Although in fairness, she was built in 1998). Were there not enough places to sit and not buy a drink though? All those people sitting on the floor is why I’m asking. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. You’re my best resource for future travel plans as I also love a good ferry.
Cheers! Oh Alaska - a distant dream for me! I was confused by the folks sitting about too, I still can't work that out, it wasn't;t even a particularly busy ferry!
@@steve-marsh I'm guessing they were trying to hang out close to the exit and were eager to disembark. Probably locals who have seen the approach before.
You've got to do Alaska!!! I have been by cruise ship but also by ferry from Bellingham, Washington, a very unique experience. Scenery is gorgeous, but having just done a fjords cruise, I think Norway is the best!
@@janicehemen4203 I JUST found out about that ferry and totally would have done that, if I'd known. But I live in the Chihuahua desert where it's been absurdly hot, was lying on the couch watching people stare at glaciers and thought, oh that looks better than this, how much is it I wonder? Turns out if you book 7 days out and get an obstructed view cabin, quite doable! And Alaska is my points airline so getting to Anchorage was free. Different situation than Steve and Alicja who would spend an arm and a leg just to get to Alaska or Vancouver (or Seattle). I just spent all my time out on deck. But Steve if you're checking in, Icelandair sometimes has a cheap fare Glasgow -Reykjavik -Seattle. And there are cruises that leave out of Seattle. Bellingham where the ferry leaves from would be about three hours north on a bus or the train. (Check those Seattle cruises though and make sure they're taking the inside passage and not the Pacific route.) The cruises out of Vancouver, BC all take the Inside Passage.
Correction:@steve-marsh. I only discovered your channel today!
Hey Steve, I have a suggestion: take a poll of your subscribers, asking: "Would you prefer Steve to make his videos with or without a musical soundtrack?" My preference is strongly for the latter. In fact, I don't think I'll be coming back for that reason alone. Ambient sounds are what it's about. Not cheesy feel-good folk music.
That's your choice, but clearly you have never tried to make a RUclips video and don't realise what goes into it. I too prefer ambient sound, but sometimes when the weather is bad, what comes out of the camera is anything but ambient, it's just white noise. It would be nice if people had a bit of appreciation for this before making their judgements, but that's how RUclips comments often are.
Love Bergen, what a beautiful place
I always wanted to go to Norway, ever since I saw The Song of Norway film when I was 17 years old. Never did get there, and unlikely to do so now, so it was great to follow your journey, and looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip.
Song of Norway also sparked my interest when I was a kid. Never been there yet but might just make it sometime soon , hopefully !
I need to look this out, never heard of it!
@@steve-marsh you may be just a tad too young 🤣. Movie 1970 with the amazing voice of Harry Secombe . Had to Google it to see what the storyline was. I just remember the scenery . In 1970 I was 16 🙈
@@elainemcguirk4993 It was the film that got me hooked on Grieg and into classical music in general, it was all pop music up to then.
Just love your videos, Steve!! X
Great video Steve. You can't beat sailing along the river and taking in all the sights and watching the other shipping sail by!
It was such an interesting route (despite the weather!)
Well that was an enjoyable video the ferry ⛴️ looked amazing like a cruise ship.and scenery entering Bergen 😀
Bergen seen from the sea on approach is something else really incredible!
Enjoyed that, your videos make me smile.
Thanks Helen :)
Was in bergen 1974 on the viking piper pipe lay barge had to walk down the mountain ..after I missed the funicular ..I was 20 ..had the good fortune to visit again when a Co worker had an accident on a oil rig stayed in hotel norge .scruffy and no money got a ghost buster ambulance to hokalander hospital after a very long helo ride snowed in in Lerwick then snowed in Aberdeen. So ended up in bergen ..fantastic ..ended up organising a small plain to return us back to Newcastle ..he was left out in the rain on a stretcher for two hours ... you couldn't write it ..mike welder ..Newcastle your exploits are a positive force long may they continue .
What an amazing adventure looks like somewhere I want to go
This brought back memories of our hurtigruten cruise from Bergen up to the north cape of Norway a brilliant cruise which stops at lots of harbours on norways west coast best cruise I have done but not for sun lovers
I really enjoy your ferry videos. That was a really nice ship, and what a breakfast buffet! I visited Bergen many moons ago. Take the ferry from Helsinki to Stockholm. The last few hours navigating from the Baltic through the Stockholm Archepelago is stunning.
That ferry WILL happen one day! I've been very close, but often the problem for me is flights, good deals haven't yet lined up to enable me to do the crossing (which itself is incredible value)
@@steve-marsh It's a trip I would definitely do again.
I have done this trip several times but always the full journey from Denmark. This video brought back so many good memories! The most fascinating thing about Fjordline is that they are constantly improving their ships. Everytime after embarking I ask myself whether this thing was already there when I was on bord the last time. In a way this journey was my personal „transit drug“ to do the famous coastal express (which btw starts at the same terminal building in Bergen) journey between Bergen and Kirkenes because I felt so in love with the scenery between Risavika and Bergen. What makes Bergen such a special city is in my opinion the arrival there. No matter which mode of transport you take it is always spectacular. An alternative to the Fjordline ferries is the bus service between Bergen and Stavanger, which is not that spectacular but also verry nice and the bus takes smaller ferries crossing the fjords twice.
Oh I'd love to do the full route now as well! Totally agree, Bergen is an incredible city to arrive in!
I can only imagine how beautiful this ferry trip would be if the weather was nice.. Still nice to watch this video.. The ferry looked very nice indeed..Quite luxurious in comparison to some of it's peers on other routes in Europe.. Thanks for another great video Steve.. ❤️
Cheers mate! Aye, it was a bit grey, my run of luck has ended :D
Hi Steve!
Thanks again for an excellent video👍
Yes, more than 10 years ago I sailed with Hurtigruten's old "Lofoten" from Kirkernes to Bergen. It was from the early 60s, and is now a Maritime school ship in Stavanger.
OK, can we talk about the yellow house at 19:15 for a sec? 🤣 I visited Bergen for a couple of days for the first time last October. Absolutely loved it. I hiked up to the top of Fløyen and the views were stunning (Yes, I got the train back down bc I'm not *that* stupid.). Listened to Aurora the whole time obvs because Norway and haunting soundtracks. It looked like it was about to rain hard the whole time I was there, but it never actually did lol. One silly thing I loved was the blankets they provide on the outdoor seats at the coffee shops! I then got the train to Oslo. It was not awful. Great stuff, cheers. Looking forward to next week's installment!
Brilliant comment :) I'll fight you for that yellow house! I saw those blankets, says a lot about the climate, it's a nice touch though eh? Editing the next part right now!
Did the same this April, hiked up, but took the train down. It was a very sunny day when I did, warmer than it is today in Brussels. It was my second attempt, first time, I stranded at Skansemyren. This time, I was walking with 2 elderly ladies and I couldn't let them beat me :p
Yet another intefesting 'wee' video Steve.thx...Norway is a great country .frighteningly expensive..but fantastic nevertheless and definitely worth visiting.
I absolutely love Norway, it's my favourite country. Bergen is great, especially the Bryggen (Hanseatic Wharf), the fish market, and the funicular up Mount Fløyen. Would love to do the trip from Stavanger to Bergen one day too. Oslo is a great place too.
So beautiful, once the clouds lifted a bit.
Aye, I was worried for a moment!
So excited to see your video. Heading up there in three days. I’m from the US visiting Amsterdam, Bergen then on to Iceland. Thanks for sharing.
What many think of as gloomy weather I like. Stormy, rainy or cloudy I feel reflective and calm. I've always been infatuated with storms.
Cracking video Steve Norway looks lovely.
Cheers! :)
I really enjoy being on the water and like taking ferry trips. This one looks especially fun. I love low clouds, misty rain and the like.

That ferry looks like a good quality cruise ship, just beautiful. Even though the weather was not ideal, the views are amazing..
A bit dull and grey, but that ship brightened up the voyage!

I've been to Bergen a couple of times as i have family there. The first time I flew into Oslo and the got the train to Bergen. It was about 7hrs on the train and it was a lovely bright day so saw lots of beautiful scenery. Bergen is a beautiful city and both times I've visited has been amazing weather. I also went on a trip down the fjords from Bergen which was about 3hrs round trip, that was amazing too. Such spectacular scenery and so different from the UK. I cant wait to go back again 😊 thank you for sharing your videos, we love watching them! 😊
Wow you've done well with the weather! I'll just need to go back and see if the sun's out yet :)
@@steve-marsh haha! It is beautiful in the sunshine 😊 Just watched your Bergen and Stavanger video. Stavanger is so pretty 😍 would love to go visit there!
My wife and I took a Fred Olson cruise to the Norway Fiords. It was magical.
