    The little oranges are kumquats - the peels are sweet and aromatic contrast to the tart insides. They are eaten with the peel for best enjoyment - a lovely winter luxury.
    Guys - my understanding is that the highly cultured response to glasses of chilled wines is to hold them by the stem - keeping the wine cold longer by not warming it with your fingers. Red wines / warm wines hold by the goblet - as keeping it cool is no issue.

    • @sherryw1919
      @sherryw1919 8 дней назад +3

      Hmm, I haven't associated the knowledge of how to hold chilled wine glasses (esp flutes) w/being necessarily "Highly-cultured" ... I've just considered that gen knowledge re wine not everyone knows.

    • @naomisee789
      @naomisee789 8 дней назад

      @@sherryw1919 Okay . . . you're right . . . so far as that goes. But there is more from the other side.
      There are many little bits of info that are 'common knowledge' in wealthy circles that are not as universal elsewhere - and these become markers. Most make sense once you know them, and many are no big deal, essentially, but are notable if one is noting. Being informed on various markers can help one when swimming in their pond.
      I'm not judging, but they may.
      There are whole regions of info and resourcefulness that are common knowledge in every economic class that are less universal in others.
      It's not a huge deal like chewing with your mouth closed or not blowing your nose at the table. It's more like folding your napkin in your lap so the fold is closer to your knees, allowing easy access and secure containment of anything you might need to hide in it - a detail of fine dining one may not learn in other circles (but everyone knows if they have been groomed for it) therefore it stands out to them w/o you even knowing - if you have that bit missing.
      It's a lot like when a writer of notes mis-applies apostrophes for plurals. (If I wrote it as "Its a lot like when a writer of note's misapply's apostrophe's for plural's.") This knowledge of English apostrophe usage for possessive form (but not for plurals unless it includes possession) is taught in first grade - and it's easy once one has the explanation of when and why to use an apostrophe - but until one has learned it, it's a bit of a tell to a first grade teacher that you might have been a distracted student (or had a distracted first grade teacher). It won't end the day, but it reveals less training in an area that some circles would consider basic.

    The reason they say that cigars are a journey is because they change as you smoke them. Cigars are split into thirds usually, and each third is said to have subtle changes due to their handmade construction and difference in the parts of leafs. A cigar is made from a wrapper binder and filler. An intresting fact too is torpeados or Figurados (the ones with pointed ends) are usually left to a specfic few people to roll as theyre much harder to roll correctly. Its really intresting if you ever get chance to go to a cigar tasting event where they teach you about how a cigar is made start to finish. Turmeaus have lounges all over the uk and theyre events are top notch! Enjoying the content 😁

      😅😅 Humans have been eating animals and their 'secretions' since the existence of man itself. Why? Because we are OMNIVORES! We, as a species, are designed to eat animals and plants. I believe the carnivore in us started way back with the caveman, and it's been non-stop since then - thousands and thousands of years!.
      I don't mind that you wish to eat plants for the rest of your life, just as I and billions of others are going to continue eating and enjoying the bountiful variety of meat and seafood this world has to offer, every day!

    Goldfish Gate lol. That was funny, poor Gabby! Casper got the VIP treatment as well which is lovely. He might be a bit young to know what is really happening regarding luxury surroundings but how amazing that he will be able to look back on these videos when he is older. I thought the price was worth it. All the extras and also that it was luxurious but not pretentious, the staff seemed so warm and friendly. I love all of your videos, but these where you do the luxury hotels with the family are my fave.

    What is so good about this channel is Tim’s down to earth reportage. I’ve stayed in a spectrum of hotels and can understand luxury (Tim’s observations are quite funny in this regard) and also a room with a bed, shower, desk and WiFi!

    2 of my very close family member worked for The Peninsula Hong Kong for over 35 years and were Head of housekeeping and Head of F&B before they both retired (they met and got married whilst working there). They later moved to the UK and were asked to help setting up the London hotel as the hotel was struggling to get the right staff and training. They also said in the first half year / 1 year the hotel was a mess and they were very disappointed with the Peninsula badge and reputation being dragged down. I have just shown them the video and they are glad the service and quality seems to have improved (although they are still adamant that it’s not as good as the Hong Kong one 😂)!

    I am a Cantonese Chinese, watching during the 1st day of Chinese New Year on 27/1/2025. That is a surprised that hotel really take the Chinese New Year theme, despite Tim and Gabby obviously not Chinese.
    The Chinese clothed terry bear, the chocolate coin was a surprised touch! The Actual Mandarin is actually a fruit looks like a tiny orange, but normally taste very sour.
    The Cantonese menu is another surprise, those Cantonese food were really the top notch! You mentioned Mandarin "桔" signifies good fortune "吉", which sounds the same in Cantonese, sounds like "gut".
    Finally, is this worth the money? 200%!

    So last week I was not impressed with the hotel you visited for the price. This week consider me impressed. Even though it’s super expensive, it was lovely. I had initially priced this at 5,000 so I wasn’t surprised.
    All in all if i wanted to spend a lot for a top notch hotel experience this ticked all my boxes. Loved the entire journey from pickup to checkout.
    Beautifully appointed hotel. The colors were warm and inviting. The furnishing elegant but comfortable looking. Amenities top notch. Modern tech that is useful and unobtrusive. Food looked delicious and well presented. Service seemed amazing.
    Casper was treated like a proper little gentleman. People will remember that attention to detail. Glad you, Gaby and Casper had a great time. Lovely way to start the New Year together. 🎉

    Nice. Everything. It was very special on how they were so attentive to Casper. His needs. Amazing. Peninsula hotels are great. I lived in Hong Kong and the “Pen” there is amazing. Has all the old architectural charm. Their lobby lounge is beautiful. In HK. I liked this one too. Very nice. I also stayed at the “Pen” in Manila and NYC. Also very nice. As we saw in this video the service is so exact. Attentive. Great video.

    Really liked this hotel, as the attention to every little detail was impeccable. I can't believe I'd ever have said £3000 upwards a night was good value, but it didn't seem to bad given everything was included?
