Growling Sidewinder yea it’s old but still maneuverable. You couldn’t build a fighter that small and light today (1/2 the empty weight of f-16) since you’d want all sorts of advanced avionics and a larger payload etc.

You are doing the best MiG-19 videos so far. Do you plan to show off the MiG-21 as well? I am interested in how you use the radar in those older aircraft.
I play a mobile game called warwings, and overshooting is one of the moves I use to out maneuver anything even slightly faster than me. If the enemy doesn’t decelerate in time, they are torn apart. If they do, I force a stall out and restart the process until it works. I typically fly and yak-9u, armed with two 12.7mm(.50cal) and one 37mm aircraft cannon. Using this tactic, I can outmaneuver spitfires, other yaks, and N1K2J(Japanese fighter). It is especially useful against the few jet aircraft in the game (it has ww1 and ww2 planes) because due to there high speed and low maneuverability, they will over shoot me and be unable to shake me. Now, if you have read this far and don’t already know how to force an over shoot, here is how: if the enemy is directly behind you, slow down to close the distance and pull up. Do not slow the speed so far that you stall out, low off the air brakes just enough to not stall. If the enemy doesn’t decelerate themselves in time, they will over shoot you. If you can’t kill them out right, you can damage there tail and destroy them from there. If you have read this far, thank you for doing so.
I think Scissor is to create an opportunity to have him overshoot while you keep your energy going high lo, but the danger in the first reversal turn is if he anticipates it and it helps him get a fire solution.
You should change the difficulty to medium at least. Looks like the F-5 wants to get hit intentionally! Great videos btw, always enjoy your channel. Please put more F-14 videos.
How is the MiG-19 a year later? I did just buy it after trying it out during the current COVID-19 DCS month of free trials. The Cockpit quality really stood out for me when comparing it to the other Russian planes. Those thunder- cannons are a fun change too.
schumifan78 ya I don't think so man it wasn't easy keeping it in the air like that. I think the damage and flight model are actually fine based on my testing/flight time in her
Should model it in X-plane and see if it stays aloft. XP flight model is pretty good and written by an actual aerospace engineer. Would be a fun experiment.
F-5 was able to position himself better, before fight started, also Mig-19 didn't used air brakes when he needed it - that lead to wrong positioning for the Mig and let Mig to overshoot F-5, which F-5 uses to snapshot and hit Mig-19 (fortunatly he didn't destroy it, just rip half of tail), arter that Mig player took it serios and started to do all he can, that lead to abillity to get on F-5 back (ore rather got F-5 to overshoot from speed), but still he strugle to get position for shot. He told that all in Tacview.
@@alzl9026 sure, the second part about MiG19 being able to get on F5 rear.. that just doesn't happen with a missing fin, unless F5 intentionally wanted to get killed ..
Why is it DCS AI aircraft always seem to not only go vertical, but have unlimited energy while doing so? Granted my skills are subpar at best but it it seems like it happens every time.
In all the years flying (virtually) I've learned one thing: The Mig 23s in BMS are all aces regarding energy management. I'll be very happy when DCS gets the Mig19 Mig-23 and F-4 :)
Nice video. I can see what's going on. Yes, I think the AI model is so unrealistic that it invalidates most dogfights. Try flying the Mig-19 against a MiG-15 or an F-86F. Can you beat the MiG-15 every time? Or does it put up the same level of fight that the F-5 did? If you were challenged by the F-5 enough that it got some gun hits on you, I don't see any way that losing a stabilator could improve your situation. I think you would have lost control of the MiG-19 and went down...in a real aircraft. I could be wrong. I think it was a good fight up until the Mig-19 lost it stabilizer. Then it should have been over. On the other hand, having been hit by one or two 20mm rounds...would that have taken off your stabilizer? The damage modeling should be improved. A 20mm round is either going to punch through the aircraft--unless it hits armor plating or an engine--or explode on contact, depending on the type of round...I would think. If it hit an engine, that would likely ruin the engine or reduce its power...either one would mean you would lose the fight unless you could escape the engagement. If it took off a control surface, same ending, I think. But the visual damage modeling looks like you've been peppered with 7.62mm or .50 cal machine gun fire! :) If you take multiple cannon hits, I think you're either losing an engine, losing hydraulics, losing fuel, on fire with progressive fire damage, losing a flying surface, losing a critical load-bearing structural member, suffering significant increase in parasite drag, or losing the pilot. Any one of those means you are out of the dog fight, I think. When the aircraft takes structural damage, it likely can't stay in one piece at the same limits of load factor and airspeed. I don't think that is modeled at all. You hit the F-5's wingtip. Why is it on fire? The F-5 carries no fuel in its wings, only fuselage tanks. A little bit of "arcade gaming" showing there. :) Anyway, it's like flying against an F-5 converted to an autonomous drone. But that's not so bad. Improve fuel consumption model, damage model and perhaps the energy modeling and it would be pretty darned good. The other thing is fuel. That was 10-1/2 minutes of ACM. A clean F-5 likely used at least a 3rd of its fuel just getting to the fight. Having to stay in afterburner for that long?... it would need to leave soon or it's not going home...meaning it lost. I'll have to test that out. I don't know about the MiG-19, but I expect it had a similar fuel problem. Unless your bases are within about 75 miles of each other, which wouldn't be likely. I don't think the AI flight models burn fuel at power dependent rate. I think they use fuel at a near constant rate no matter what power setting they use, no matter what altitude they fly...and a very thrifty rate, too. How can an Su-17 fly 100 miles back to base at 500-feet AGL and 150 kts using afterburner to climb over every hill...after having made 10 strafing runs and taken a AAA hit that left it trailing fuel all the way home? But the 'player' flight model considers all these things pretty realistically. All these DCS 'player' aircraft seem very well done in systems, flight models, and visual models...I love flying them. But the AI and the damage modeling is lacking. Same with surface anti-aircraft AI units. If a 500-lb bomb explodes 100 yards from an open mount ZU-23 AAA, I don't think the gun operators would fair well. But in DCS, they not only survive with light damage, they keep firing...accurately. It should distract them from aiming for 10 seconds at the very least, just from the force of the blast wave, not to mention supersonic steel fragments out to at least a 1000-foot radius. Anyway, just my 2 (x10) cents worth. :) Nice to see the MiG-19, though. Now, if someone would make an F-100C or D as well. The F-100 had the same M39 revolver cannons as the F-5---only twice as many. About the same combined rate of fire as a single M61 Vulcan. About the same gun sight and radar as the F-86F, it appears.
Very good dogfight, the F5 it's not an easy target for a MIG 19 and much less without an stabilizer, but it's a sturdy plane and with a good pilot and those 30mm cannons... it can be a problem; the F5 it's so agile that in a dogfight it's always a problem, even when it haves a cristal jaw.
great work Hoss! You mention exiting the scissors there, would like to see how in your opinion, the best way to do that would be, maybe a vid on it perhaps. by the way how did she land missing some tail?
Tim Munroe I actually didn't land it lol. I really wanted to try but I was afriad too much gameplay would curropted the track and I wouldn't be able to make the video. So I didn't try it. Really wanted to tho.
As far as losing the elevator, the plane should be wanting to roll and yaw to the left very hard every time you use the elevator, and it's turning rate and radius should be hugely negatively impacted. In fact if you tried to pull any king of serious G, it would run the risk of stalling out big time
Thanks for your videos they are really interesting :) When you were both on the deck I thought Great ! We can see who will win a sustained turn with burners on. I would like to know which plane is better at this. But you chopped throttle and gave him your six :( Maybe you have already tested which plane has better sustained turn? I just wanna know which plane has better sustained turn on the deck and which plane is faster on the deck... Can one plane out turn and the other out run? When you do these anything goes dogfights you are mainly testing the skill and experience of the pilots. I think most of us want to know the relative performance of the planes. You could just do a sustained turn and see who comes out on 6 . Then do a race to see who accelerates faster and who gets to the top speed. Test the planes instead of testing the pilots. I suspect you are more experienced pilot than your Tiger and Mirage pilots. I hope that comes across as constructive criticism .
Wish that DCS would add the F-4II. Then we could see an even match between East and West with the MiG-19. Were you able to land without the stabilizer? Also, on the merge, could you have done a tight Illiman to bleed of some speed and line up on the six?

The MiG19 is just so damn cool looking to me!
Where is the landing with one stabilizer ?
Awwww man.. the fact theres only 2 bursts of ammo. is just sad. :( i want this model, but that ammo.. makes just everything more appealing
Were you able to land successfully with one stab?
Most underflown plane in DCS?
one of the best pilots players on DCS:
GS, love your vids, but can you please scrap the static-y cuts in the video? Thought my sound card shat itself.
hoilst I duno what ur talking about mate can u give me a time stamp to give an example
that's some starwars technology right there
“So you gotta be really gentle when you pull your nose up.” But pull your nose up regularly. It pulls up your double chin up.
Why is it DCS AI aircraft always seem to not only go vertical, but have unlimited energy while doing so? Granted my skills are subpar at best but it it seems like it happens every time.
cuz theyre dumb ai so they gave them this buff in an attempt to have them put up a fight? lol i dont know man, I also find it very frustrating.
Victory with only half a tail, but a win is a win.
Everytime you say "Oh, I see him..." and I think I see him too, it turns out to be a speck of dirt on my monitor :(
Yaaaa really wish RUclips didn’t compress it like it does
Yeah, same here 😔
Very good dogfight, the F5 it's not an easy target for a MIG 19 and much less without an stabilizer, but it's a sturdy plane and with a good pilot and those 30mm cannons... it can be a problem; the F5 it's so agile that in a dogfight it's always a problem, even when it haves a cristal jaw.
0:48 Just say Top Gun or Red Flag.
Version were used as trainers and with the Thunderbirds Flight Demo teams.
great work Hoss!
Really wanted to tho.
could have shown a landing with that stabilizer missing
Nice shot with no right stab!!
Good Job, Well Done, getting the Win with a Wounded Bird. Those Russia Build things Russian Tough, which makes Ford Tough look Weak.
As far as losing the elevator, the plane should be wanting to roll and yaw to the left very hard every time you use the elevator, and it's turning rate and radius should be hugely negatively impacted. In fact if you tried to pull any king of serious G, it would run the risk of stalling out big time
Pretty darn cool!
Loved the vid man 😎 jet looks so agile and unique! Was this live commentary?
Ryan Tongs yes sir I do all the videos with live commentary
I see that the piper doesn't glitch out in turns like mine does. Hmm, I really don't know what to do at this point.
no way that aircraft would fly like that with 1 stabilizer every time you pull on that stick it would roll uncontrollably
When aerodynamics says :"you can't fly with half plane missing" but russian engineers says :"why not?"
Is the Mig 19 in afterburner the whole time? How long would it be able to keep that up?
Thanks for your videos they are really interesting :)
When you were both on the deck I thought Great !
How do you control ur camera so well ?
Iranian Pilot Shot mig 25 with f5 , Great plane
12:27 You're not gonna scratch my paintjob again
Doesn't the mig-19 have like the double power to weight compared to f5?
Epic!!!
Wish that DCS would add the F-4II. Then we could see an even match between East and West with the MiG-19. Were you able to land without the stabilizer? Also, on the merge, could you have done a tight Illiman to bleed of some speed and line up on the six?
