In this video we put the American Air force F-16C Viper Up against the Russian Air force Mig-29 Fulcrum in a fox-2 or heat seeker fight to see who will come out on top or at least the tactics and methods used to survive and get a kill at the same time. Huge thank you to Feisty for helping in the production of this Video and Thank you to all of you for your support. Please don't forget to check out the new Merch Store and see if there is anything in there that you like. Thanks so much and take care.

alright so as we can see the 2 planes seem to be pretty evenly matched in a fox-2 fight at least in the current state of the viper, we'll see if that changes down the road as the viper gets more features and the radar modes actually lock targets in a decent time. Remember to always fly to your advantage and never play the enemies game. Good luck.

Amazing video as usual GS! I think this video more than any other was sobering to me in that sometimes watching these we forget the men and women who do this for real. I was an army ground pounder who earned my CIB and lost a good friend in A-stan so I do understand the risk they take but to get down to a 50-50 proposition in a $20-30 million pile of modern tech like this is a horrific thought.
Just like on the ground technology is basically even when the aircraft merge and westerners have the benefit of rarely having to fight 50-50. So whatever nation you are in west or not take a moment to give a silent thanks to those who are willing to do this for you.
that is so true, srsly man takes a special kind of person to sign up to do this stuff. I watched a documentary where an iraqi mig-29 took off to face 4 f-15s and his wingman had issues and couldn't take off and he took off anyway. went to face the F-15s even tho he probably knew he didnt have a Popsicle's chance in hell.....I respect that. needless to say, he didn't return. so 100% agree, regardless of what side the pilot is on, respect is due.
@@GrowlingSidewinder Hmmm I'm wondering what would happen if cold war turned to WW3 I'm from Poland and I always wonder how our MiGs would perform back then in '80/90.
AIM9X and the R-73 are all-aspect aren't they, so I suppose it's the rule that you are note allowed to fire the missile before passing each other in the merge? Otherwise a head-on shot should be a viable option.
I love the scream at the end of round 2 lol
Yeah bro😂
Reminds me of A-10 Cuba from the 90s, when you eject too hard into the ground he does a silly scream.
According to Flight Recorders, 99% of Pilots last second are a hefty " AWSHIT", never a scream.
Ngl wasn’t expecting it
when you are flaring out, you NEED to turn off your afterburner. This is really important for dodging any Fox2
That’s because the afterburner attracts the missile right?
SurrendeRMaS yup that's also an important point should have mentioned it in the video my bad
Yeah informed heat seeking missles heat its after . Guided missle is radio and shit all wats in the front of the plan get in front of both if can build a wall if you can side to side barrel roll then if need to split s. Good fight tho grow
@@skatterpro "DCS is not open source and *you have not read the code*" you made a good point. That's why it should be useful that notfakeaccount record a video of his test flight to clarify this aspect.
@@ziosam850 Top level? You can read DCS code?
Bullshit.
You were wrong and now you try to use lies to cover your fuck up.
Be a man and admit to being wrong.
Fucktard.
I've watched a lot of channels on RUclips and your vids and detailed examinations of each flight are the best there is-- hands down.
thank you, very kind of you.Glad you like them
"Mandatory disrespectful inverted flare drop" 😂😭😂 I love this channel!
He did just shoot down GS though. He probably got laid that night with a glass of champaign.
Oh Y'know just nextflix and chilling and some dude crashed a fighter jet through the apartment above me
Lold
Actually happened to a Belgian kid in 1989, unfortunately. Minus the Netflix obviously.
@@LentPanic7 F
In conclusion: All aspect = Bloodbath
....yes. well said.
Mig 29: Haha, I've got you! You can't shoot me up here
Aim 9x: UNO REVERSE
RIP for those people that live in this two Apartment building.
AIM9Xs and Archers are potent as hell. I wouldn't want to be in the phone booth with a plane packing either. Thanks for the show, Growling Sidewinder.
my pleasure thank you for watching.
@@Internetbutthurt Weapons don't always work perfectly.
@@Internetbutthurt There hasnt been any reports other than media speculation that Su-22 fired flares. AIM-9X was a dud, according to the American pilot himself
@@Internetbutthurt There was only one AIM-9X fired before switching to AMRAAM. Every missile has a chance of failing entirely. The Rhino driver said that as the missile went off the rails, it disappeared. Sounds like a rocket motor failure to me
@@Internetbutthurt You think one instance allows one to draw such conclusions.
this is like 2 dudes tethered up having a knife fight!
zeitgeist909 that's a great way to explaining it
@tvercetti1 Most people today don't even know what a phone booth is.
16:38 How have the Americans managed to design a missile straight out of Ace Combat. AIM-9X is deadly af.
The aim 9 has been around in a long time no wonder they improve it alot
It's honestly worse than the missiles in AC because they can be reliably dodged with flares and have trouble hitting planes crossing your flight path at a 90 degree angle
SD10: Hold my beer
Yeah but the R-73 is a pain in the ass too
The Chinese and the Russians are getting pretty good at it too.
Quite spectacular bail out in the last fight, I'm sure that will get the pilot's adrenaline pumping!
Really appreciated seeing you go through the process of losing fights and hearing your thought process to assess and address the situation. Nothing personal, but that's more relatable to me than seeing the standard in your video where you end up victorious in dog fights :D
Outstanding man. I do love the goat scream on the no eject @ Round 2.
thanks buddy you remembered it was a goat scream. true GS channel supporter here.
More MiG-29 stuff please!
Damn, I loved this one. Short 2 minutes fights are awesome to watch. Guns end up being boring rate fights some times and Fox 3 fights hard to understand before watching the Tac view, but these ones are spectacular.
P.S. That was a hell of an ejection in the end, haha. I've been a skydiver for 8 years and jumping low and flying under parachute next to buildings is always cool. I was also instantly scared, because you can't control that round canopy.... I know, I know, you probably don't give a red cent about that part of a game :D
When I first stumbled onto this site I was fascinated and really impressed...and now I hate you...I'm addicted...
ahah welcome trish, why dont you stay a while lol
Love to see the Mig-29, more perspectives from Russian aircraft would be great.
how dare you commie
@@irishviking167 we all love lenin here... Lenin and the Fulcrum
I'd argue that you won that last one as you successfully ejected where he did not
ahaha ya interesting way to look at it
@@GrowlingSidewinder That was one of the major factors that swung the battle of Britain in the allies favor. Every time a German got shot down they lost a pilot and a plane whereas an allied pilot who successfully crash landed or bailed out could be recovered and they didn't lose an experienced pilot
I think the people of the city will kill him anyway for crashing in their city. ;-)
زعم انته وزعم هوه 😂
Ending of the fight 2 was friggin awesome. It made me chuckle ngl.
ahah glad you liked it bruh
These modern missiles are bonkers. I'm used to watching a lot of WarThunder where the enemy has to be on your nose, can't be going to fast and almost any maneuver defeats an incoming missile. In DCS it's like the missiles are shootin out your ass in every direction and can easy out pull and out maneuver you. It really is impressive to watch them just snap turn 90 degrees like that.
yes much more realistic than war thunder missiles
and then there is R-27 when you could turn 1 degree and it'd miss...
These are called helmet mounted sight. They were implemented on the 4th generation Aircraft if I am not mistaken. It allows the missile to attack a target even if the nose of the Aircraft is not pointed at it.
Warthunder doesn’t have Gen 4 aircraft.
@@GrowlingSidewinder I dunno if I'd say that, it's more just that the missiles in WT are like Ford model Ts compared to the modern F1 car that is the AIM-9X/Archer. They're only early 1960s missiles in WT, afterall, none of the missiles on Jets in WT are even All-aspect yet.
Either way, loved the video, it's seriously impressive how quickly you can both react to the incoming missiles despite how overwhelming powerful they are.
@@miaconnor5767 Well yea WT isn't in the modern era yet in terms of jets, but his statement about DCS being more realistic is still true.
"Extremely resistant to counter-measures- owh God damnit"
@@Internetbutthurt Su-22
@@Internetbutthurt You don't know what the frig you're talking about.
I think that would be more interesting from the view of the F16, still an interesting video where we can learn tips !
when flying a mig, you should try turning up and over since it suits your optimum speed range for turning, and also try employing the stick override button which allows you to pull outrageous aoa moves, default key y i think
Huh, I thought only the su27 had an AoA limiter override?
I love Fiesty's FlyBy! FLARING WHILE INVERTED.
I can imagine the pilot's anger when they invented the term "Missile went stupid"
Damn I can watch your videos all day, you do a great job with the content editing and commentary. LoL that is so Canadian of you, "The obligatory Disrespectful inverted flare". Keep up with the great work but next time fly over a non populated area, there was no need for all those people to die on Round 8.
ahah thank you. very kind of you, and yes I think you're right, we'll move it into the desert for the next video.
I LOVE your vids man!! Thanks for the great content!! And I absolutely LOST it at the goat scream sound effect- definitely keep that one coming 😂
Never seen you do a fox2 fight before, this is absolutely awesome
Yea because in this dogfight situation, the aircrafts was far from each other so it was possible to use the Fox-2
Best thing to pop up just when I was bored.
That 5th round though... the F16 flew that round so well. That was my favorite round just because the use of the sun following by taking your back. Good rounds all around. I love these Fox2 dogfighting.
Nice vid as always! The action music goes better with the replays imo
I liked how you accepted your fate and ride the jet into the ground. Lol
I enjoyed this video, both of you did a great job flying.
3:00 now that’s how you dodge a missile, what a boss! And 7:15 ain’t bad either!
Also at 10:40, it’s crazy how he switches between tactics like that. You were already dead 💀
Great dodge at 13:42 👌🏻
Overall, some pretty impressive dogfights, outstanding video! 😃
This is the one I've been waiting for!
Great vid yet again. Love what you did with the slo mo in this video.
thank you, glad you liked it, took a lot of tries to get the right angles.
Wow nice flying! 5th round was just epic!
First missile away seems to be crucial [whether it's on target or not] as it puts the opponent on the back foot immediately.
I love the scream you put in every once in awhile in your videos
12:53 you can see the first missile that he fired fall into frame
With the new radar gun reticule in the F16, that would be interesting to see how it performs agaist the Mirage !
3:15 this is what so great about fox 2 fights. So cinematic, up close and personal. 💥💨 Then their is that chance it can be a gun fight "Flawless Victory"
As an amateur photographer, I was planning on building a new editing computer, but after watching this channel while in quarantine, I'm now planning on upgrading that to run dcs lol. Thanks for making me want to spend more money 😂
Well F 16 is a state-of-art fighter jet. Truly an American masterpiece.👍
Nice fight, the Fox 2 fights must be one of the hardest kind of fights that you can have on a plane; you don't see much of that i guess because the short and deadly nature of the thing, but it's nice to see it. Good fight
Very Nice video Mig-29 is one of my most favorite Russian jet And F16 is my second favorite American jet. I always enjoy your videos especially the into 🙂
I wonder how the F-15 and Su-27 compare to these two
Well the Su-27 has a HMD and the F-15 doesn't. Pretty sure the Su-27 will win.
@@OverlordAntares the DCS F-15 doesn't have a helmet mounted sight. IRL it sure does.
@@J_JetClips I'm aware. They should update it and give it the HMD.
F15 in a close range fight? Not a chance against the su 27
4:34 the screaming goat had me in stitches!!
I'm going to like and u like this video just so I can like it again. Been SO looking forward to this.
thanks buddy glad you enjoyed it
Awesome dog fight , Mig - 29 very maneuvers paver fighters 👍🏽. nice video . 😎
Round 2 scream was a nice touch. :D
Nice fight and demonstration, the Mig-29 is old technology and we see this still dangerous.
Yeah because it is
Wow!! Awesome combat! :D
This is great. More missile fights please
LoL at Fight 7 the F-16 lost all wings and stabilizers, reminded me on the movie Hot Shots 1 when he landed the wreck on the aircraft carrier xD
Awesome. Thanks I wanted to see planes crashing into the city and you gave me two!
"Feisty's doing a good job of maneuvering his thing behind me there."
Ahem.
Great rounds amigo! I'd like to see flares and F2s BEFORE merge (IAW all aspect fight), and the CAF (Clear Avenue of Fire) aiming technique BEFORE launching heat missiles (that increase the missile's Pk)
At 12:54 did anyone else notice the dead missile falling down the screen
Thanks again for a great video!
Would love to see feistys pov for his 3rd rd kill - those 9x's really are something combined with the helmet mounted sight. Great videos, appreciate them 👍
Before I watched this I thought the mig would win nonstop, but fiesty is a beast, I can't believe it was such a even fight
Last round: EVERYONE DIES! All contestants and even the folks who live in those apartment buildings below.
A sad ending
12:54 where did that missile come from?
I love those third person replays.
It goes to show how devastating a conflict between two advanced technology opponents will be when this century has it's great war.
What is the name of music
There should be dog fight weekly championships with money involved. $5 buy-in for either Fox 1, Fox 2, or only guns classes. 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 categories. Winner(s) of each class takes 70% of the pot and second place takes 30%.
Idk if it is because of the way dcs works or what, but i am under the impression that you can always know if a missile is gonna hit or not, depending on its trajectory. Like every missile that hit always preshot the trajectory the jet was gonna follow from the start. Im probably saying bs but it feels strange.
That 9X is absolutely insane!
Screaming goat, love it!
It’s looks like F-16v pilot also uses some sort of Helmet Mounting Display, with ability to lock on targets beyond HUD.
That rudder shit, you ain't no joke, daim boi
Do you have a video on the different types of fights?
Like, what is a rate fight. What is a nose fight, and other types?
The scream edit just before crash got me dead
great vid man
thanks very much bill.
Very impressed with the video production mate. ;) The scream in round 2 was epic.....
Technical note; why dont the proximity fuses in the missiles activate. The close passes by the missiles should likely have been kills. Especially the one in round 3. Im a weapons tech by trade so i would expect them to cut u in half. What do you think??????
hey man thank you as far as I know the proxy fuses don't work because of ping of lag, so they just disabled proxy fuses in multiplayer.
@@GrowlingSidewinder Thats fair enough. :)
Outstanding !! Thank you...
At 4:30, thats the Last Scream of a WARRIOR! XD
Wishlist: 1. F-16A vs Mig-21 with only rear-aspect AAMs. F-16A vs Mig-29S (DCS version but better modeling). F-16C-Block-50 (DCS version) vs Mig-29M (contemporaneous development even if economic realities delayed the introduction of the Mig-29M). And finally, as long as wishing: Mig-35 vs F-16V.
Great video as always! Out of curiosity, why don't you shoot during the merge? Is it just to ensure there's some content? Wouldn't shooting in the merge help as they're flying right into your missile?
yes ur right lol number 1 reason is cuz thats the unwritten rule of 1v1, fight is on after the merge. and 2nd is that it would be really poor content. in a multiplayer environment tho like on a server or something, its fair game. if you can shoot him in the face before the merge, do it.
God damn it... He did well at round 5, hiding in the sun and killing you before you really got to start.
I heard that modern BFM & BVR missiles were scary...
But now that I see a realistic simulation of it.
Damn........
(O_O)
I'm f*ing scared!!!
That's insane!!
I can't help but be curious about two things: How much advantage would a Su-27/30/35 have in a Fox-2 fight versus say the F-16; and what would happen to that advantage if the rules of engagement allowed face shots to be taken before the merge.
R-73 is a pretty good missile, but AIM-9X is just incredible. It could provide an advantage to a far less maneuverable plane... i would love to see how AIM-9X could perform in some older but yet electronically-updated platform like IAI Kfir C10 or Block 60 against a Fulcrum with R-73
Would you recommend to throttle back when you see a launch to reduce your IR signature?
I loved this Fox 2 fight btw, would like to see more for more diversity on your channel. Also, dogfights with guns only are kinda rare these days, so we better learn to use sidewinders and R 73's.
MrChaosProf Yeah it clearly helps to reduce throttle to reduce heat signature. coupled with intense flare dumping, this increases the chances of survivability
Amazing video, also whats the song during the cinematic clips?
6+ rounds?! This is too good
If you get "stone mountain 64" to commentate, that would be best thing ever
The Round 7 missile was savage. You put up Fiesty's page link in another video... but I can't find it again. Again please?
is proximity fuse only available to radar guided missile?
proxy fuses are disabled in multiplayer, or might not exsist in DCS at all.
I was thinking about that too. Some of them pass so close to the target. IRL they would have gone off.
@@octaviangrigorescu I've has missiles pass within 1ft of me, where in gameplay I literaly saw the missile pass over my canopy so close I could touch it and only realized it wasnt a random glitch during tacview.
Gah I'm at work can't wait to watch this after excellent topic
I've sat in both of these cockpits
Has the American plane now have heads up missile lock on like the Su-29 Fulcrum
What background music did you use at 2:25 it sounded like it came from bloodborne
Do more dogfight with Fox 2 pleasee!!! I love it.
Great Fight!!!
Jeez, how many flares do these aircraft carry?
12:53 your first archer comes back into frame top right corner, i love how they will pull 360s and keep tracking.......unrealistic as hell, but funny.
