So I think its about time I gave some love to the Mirage 2000C. I've finally gone out and learned a fair bit about the Mirage although i'm still learning, and getting use to it. But I will say that I've thoroughly enjoyed the Mirages handling and flight characteristics. Although lacking when it comes to BVR engagement with the small load out of only 2 super 530s and 2 magic II heat seekers the Mirage is easily one of the most dominant dog fighting platforms in DCS right now. The impressive roll rate on this thing makes it a very difficult opponent in a dogfight. Thank you all for watching and Thank you for all your support with the channel. its been an amazing journey.
@@hikari2hikari2 The Mirage is slightly better (delta wings) in maneuvers but the Hornet has slightly better thrust to weight on the paper and JHMCS. Close call, probably the Hornet, the version we have is 20 years newer than the Mirage we've got. Hopefully they put the Mirage 2000-5 eventually with BVR missiles MICA EM/IR, especially the IR, very dangerous missile as it gives no warning to the target. The Mirage would then become very popular on servers, like the F16 Viper when it'll be out. Thanks for the video GS.

Ronak Dhakan thank you I plan on doing that kind of stuff a lot more going forward thanks for the feedback. Always helpful to hear what you guys like so I know what to do more of in the future.
@@GrowlingSidewinder to add a bit on your Mirage 2000 delta wing explanation, the 2000 has several features, the main being FBW that allows others features to work (such as the slats and instability), which significantly decrease the disadvantages of a delta design, especially its low speed handling and energy bleeding. The Mirage III or Mig 21 are total bricks at low speed compared to this beast.
Props to the F-5 pilot. He handled his plane very well despite being at an obvious hardware disadvantage against the Mirage. Seemed to counter maneuver at the right time for most scenarios. Such a great fight. Probably somewhat unfair, given your explanations. That having said, it is pleasure to watch you actually exploiting the (unfairisch) advantages of your aircraft knowingly and successfully. *I would not be opposed to seeing more of you playing around with the Mirage.
I would love to see a rematch with an F20 modded. Since it’s basically an F5 with more leading edge and a thrust ratio of 1.1 At that point you’d be the one in trouble
Really behind the viewing curve on this but I've come away feeling like this was sort of poetry for the eyes. The video is beautiful, the perspectives give you a sense of the vastness of the killing floor and of the hunt itself. Your opponent will be a terror in something more appropriate like the Viper or the Eagle, I'd like to see you two tangle in more evenly matched kit, I believe that would be another visual feast. Thanks for the watch, kudos to Xrayster.
Great review and overall understanding of basic BFM. I do need to point out as others have alluded that track ir enables you to fly in somewhat of a game mode though due to having the instant 180 degree reverse views to the rear of the aircraft. I would definitely recommend you to fly with a high quality VR hmd and try the same, you’ll find out that some of the tactics that you are accustomed to using will be less effective and require a higher situational awareness level in regards to energy management and more advanced spatial awareness due to the inherent limitations of your neck and posture while being somewhat strapped into the seat.
Except no one straps themselves into their seats in VR? Had the resolution not been so poor, VR would be better that TIR, just based on the increased awareness and depth perception offered.
The maneuver you call a high yoyo to avoid the overshoot and stay behind him, or to force him to overshoot in front of you ... is actually a lag displacement roll. Sometimes called a barrel roll attack when you have a high rate of closure on their 4 to 8 line, or a barrel roll defense when they have a high rate of closure on your six (or anywhere from the 4 to 8 line) and you need to force the overshoot. A true high yoyo is similar to a chandelle where you use vertical displacement to shorten your horizontal extension, but you never roll the aircraft inverted ... at most you use a steep banking angle, as much as 90 - 120 degrees ... at the zenith of the turn before pulling into your descent.
Yes Buddy ! about time you take out that baby! very nice flying for the 1st time, I got M-2000C and I love it, very fast for make History whit this Aircraft it is Magic......lol. Thanks for great video and see you in the Air...……………………...Wes from NJ.
T/W in a clean 2000C is just a little below 1/1 if you have 100% fuel and the 21,400 pound engine. In the F-5E you will be around 0.65-0.68 in the same situation. But damm, that "Spanish" guy is really a pilot.
Nice vid GS. I 'd like to mention though, that in tacview, at the "Hi yo yo" point, it seems to me that it's more like a nice barrel roll over the top, rather, because he is not in a full turn (he is in a slight turn, not significant), and was the right thing to do, to not overshoot him.😉
Welcome to the Mirage fold! It really is a wonderful aircraft. The weapons are lacking but the airplane itself is my favorite in the game. It handles high speed like an Eagle and low speed like a Hornet. You should try my anti-Tomcat BVR technique in an online server sometime. 9 times out of 10 the Cat is toasted, until you come up against a real operator. Very cool feeling.
Phillip Gatelein in Peru we have the Mirage 2000 and our traditional rival (Chile) has some F-16. I would really love to see that match, although I am not very confident but Growling may pull it.
Low speed, sustained, F14. Guns only? Probably f14 if equal skill. Mirage would murder am f14 in a merge of both have fox 2s. Mirage can trade all its energy for one insane turn, and it is not g limited nearly as hard as a 14. Sustained f14 wins due to its wing sweep and greater power to weight. It will win in the vertical, but Mirage has a big advatage in the early fight. The insane roll rate also makes the Mirage the best plane fo defensive maneuvers in DCS in a tight fight. Only cobra capable fighters can match it at slamming the brakes... except the Mirage is fully controllable when dumping speed. A Sukhoi or MiG 29 may be able to beat it on paper, but they are up a creek if the pilot is less than perfect. Mirages big weaknesses are BvR and it is underpowered compared to the big twin engine jets... So if the fight drags out your enemy has to mess up to lose. Get good at snapshots and forcing overshoots and you will need to fear nothing in game in the merge. (But be careful of all aspect fox 2s.) Finish your fights quickly.
what else can I say ? thank you !! we (I ) need more dogfight technics explainations like this, it's very pedagogic for a noob like me . please do more dogfight tutorials :-)
The roll in a high yo-yo, while not necessary, is a good practice as it allows you to maintain a visual. As the defender if you see someone attempt it without a roll, know they have broken LOS and it's time to break hard. My $.02
It was a very good dogfigher, and the F-5 pilot was very good at conducting scissors maneuvers against the Mirrage. This was a very tactical combat in my opinion, which made me wish to learn more about the F-5, because even being a fighter inferior to Mirrage, the F-5 pilot was able to hold the fight with very interesting maneuvers, and perform defensive maneuvers well Aggressively and almost surprising the French plane. In fact, I venture to say that the F-5 pilot was much more strategic than other pilots I saw here on this channel flying the F-18, or Migs.
Well done bud, you’ve Sussed out most of the handling characteristics already. It can be a giant airbrake as you said. Good effort going with the radar gun solution. I hate that snake. Hate it lol Also, there’s a switch somewhere to slow the gun rate, makes the rounds last a little longer. Think it’s right of the weapons panel
thanks brother, ya i'll deff turn down the gun rate, the damn snake is so bad, i'm basically using ww2 deflection shooting instead of using the snake anyway lol.
Hey man, it's Fox here, you know...the one that made all dem videos about jets and stuff. My account got banned because youtube for some fuckall reason decided to, but i'm still followin you Great vid as always
You should play more on instantaneus than sustained turn [bleed those excess speed - gain more angle] ,should play the 'AoA' more to control the 'speed'.
Nice video. A really nice scenario would be to try Mirage 2000-5 armed with Mica missiles pitted against F-16C Block50 or similar armed with AIM120C. The Mirage has marginally better missiles and radar (RDY considered on par with AN/APG70) but the F-16 much better energy retention capability and thrust-to-weight ratio so probably a better dogfighter, despite higher wing loading.
@@GrowlingSidewinder Thanks. It's got some special interest for me since my country (Greece) has been in tension with Turkey for some decades now and this particular pairing has been discussed about a lot. Greece has got F16C/Ds Block 30/50/52+ Advanced (the latest with AN/APG 68(V)9 and Turkey has got similar F-16s but Greece also exclusively has a small number of Mirage 2000-5s with RDY radar and MICA missiles. So the scenario talk never ends and I'd like to see a simulation about these.
It‘s amazing what stuff can be pulled of with the mirage during a dogfight. Just imagine what extreme manouvering is possible with the most modern delta wing jets, like the Grippen, Rafalle, or the Typhoon. To bad that we won‘t see them any time soon in DCS. The things I would do for a Lot 4 Typhoon, with the Pirate IRST and Iris-T&Meteor- Missles...
tonyHern865 I can't wait to get some BVR action in it. It's going to take some time to develop some nice tactics tho. It's not the best aircraft for BVR
The F-5 had no actual chances of winning a dogfight with the marvelous Mirage 2000. The Mirage has a fairly low weight and large wing area with the pure delta design giving low wing load, thus more maneuverability, and the wing shape works extremely well in all flight regimes (subsonic, transonic and supersonic). It's very fast, in fact is pretty difficult not to overshoot in close range combat. Here agility is the key for his design: small, extremely agile, fast and with good weaponry. The single M-53 engine (double air flux, more air and bigger air intakes= better supersonic performance) is a badass engine. The intakes have central moving cones. The cone moves according to speed, progressively moving backwards as it increases. In this way it is possible to adjust the geometry of the air I flow adapting it to all the practical speeds sustainable by the aircraft, without having a complex design of the air inlets themselves. (Remember the SR-71 Blackbird engines? That type of intake cones). The jet is unstable and uses fly-by-wire, which is the last Dassault plane to use this system in fact the Rafale uses fly-by-light with optic fibres. Here's the funny thing, the fly by wire system of the Mirage 2000 needed two "mustaches" that made the plane even less stable to gain full control. The Mirage it's first a strike aircraft and then an Interceptor, keep this in mind. It's an aircraft capable of going from 0 to 60,000 ft in less than a minute, shoot 60 rounds of 30 mm in just a second (two 30 mm revolver cannons with a 1800 RPM rate of fire, 30 rounds per second each) and fire big missiles. This means "I will obliterate everything I see". They probably wanted to give both the typical Interceptor layout with long range big missiles (Remember the F-14, huh?) and the dogfighter layout, thus meaning good and numerous guns. I made a fairly short resume of how the aircraft is. Ps. I had very few hours on DCS but I have thousands on other simulators and games - flew most with F-22, F-15C, Mirage 2000, F-18 Super Hornet, MiG-29 and A-10, less with Rafale-M, F-14, F-16, AV-8B, F-35, various MiGs [21, 25, 31], F-117, Me-262, etc., without counting many hours on propellers such as Spitfire, Me-109, P-38, P-40 and so on) Flying the Mirage is easy and difficult. Strange, yes. It’s easy to fly once you understand how it behaves, but the pure (and tailess) delta wing it's a bitch. it generates huge amounts of lift AND a huge amount of drag. In fact at high AoA the wing has flow separation and at low speed it procudces a lot of drag. This feature needs more powerful engines to counter, but the Mirage hasn't a so powerful engine. And it's not so good in pitch. So the general idea is to use your speed and firepower to attack first but beware of climbing/pitching maneuvers and low speeds, this will put you in an unfavourable situation. The delta (tailless) is efficient at high speed but no so much at low speed so distance and time are your friends here. The delta flies well in all regimes but it's a bit bipolar in this case, remember the high lift and high drag thing. To fight well you must be fast, that's the deal with the Mirage. Otherwise you'll overshoot trying to do that or slow down too much that by the time you pull that throttle to 100% and re-gain speed the enemy will have already an advantage over you even if you roll and turn extremely well. I forgot to say that deltas to get lift at low speeds have to maintain a higher angle of attack than at higher speeds, and as the Mirage is bad in pitch maneuvers.... You know... It's not good at all. If I remember well the attack speed for the Mirage 2000 is around 500 - 600 knots range (930 - 1116 kph or 581 - 698 mph), so keep it around this speed range. Conclusion: 1. Stay fast and avoid low speeds under the 500 - 600 knots range or at least avoid being below it for too much, 2. Don't close too much with the enemy jet, the Mirage flight characteristics are not an advantage this close as you risk to overshoot or end very at slow speed, 3. If you stay up this speeds you'll be fine, the engine and the intake will do the job all alone themselves, 4. Unleash the power of the cannons if you can. If you have a good shot you take it, the two 30 mm won't spare no jet. 4. Play in advance, more time equals better fighting plan, 5. It's like landing on a deck for Naval Aviators, rudder pedals and throttle skills must be mastered while flying subsonic and 6. Once you have learned to fly it, you'll like it a lot. It's a plane that needs some time to be understood even if the controls are easy (like the parking brake on the right just like cars), but hell it's a fabulous jet. Absolutely love it. Hope I helped you!
great video. I hope you make a video of your setup one day. Joystick, head track, etc and key bindings. That would be real nice. Put on a ski mask if you don't want people to see your face :D

Mirage 2000 is my alltime favourite aircraft. for someoe just starting DCS without any prior sim experience, where can i look up in order to learn how o operate he Mirage and it's controls?

Keep up with mirage 2000C's videos ! I love its flight characteristics and dogfight capability
Would love to see more with you and the opposing pilot "Xrayster". That guy is no joke!
Great stuff, love your videos and I´m always happy when a new one comes out
Der PdA I appreciate that level of support man thank you.
@@GrowlingSidewinder You are welcome. I am learning a lot about modern air combat from your vids, so the thank you goes right back to you :)
HappyOwl Vive pro is definitely sufficient, and for an absolutely extraordinary experience, an XTAL hmd is the necessary.
Love the videos! Like the new "Growling Cobra" Logo!
thanks man glad you like the new logo
That F-5 fought like a Tiger, and you fought like an Ace! Great upload!
Great change from the normal F14/F18/ I've not seen anyone use the M2000 like this.. very good Dogfighter
Really comfy video here
When I bought the mirage few months ago my first impression was...'' oh shit this is easy plane and fast''
The High Yoyo is one of my go to moves if I am diving on some one low and slow in Warthunder
Gun sighting: "feel the Force Luke" 🤣
I have been there 😋
Yes Buddy ! about time you take out that baby! very nice flying for the 1st time, I got M-2000C and I love it, very fast for make History whit this Aircraft it is Magic......lol. Thanks for great video and see you in the Air...……………………...Wes from NJ.
Awesome flying guys!
T/W in a clean 2000C is just a little below 1/1 if you have 100% fuel and the 21,400 pound engine. In the F-5E you will be around 0.65-0.68 in the same situation. But damm, that "Spanish" guy is really a pilot.
Nice vid GS. I 'd like to mention though, that in tacview, at the "Hi yo yo" point, it seems to me that it's more like a nice barrel roll over the top, rather, because he is not in a full turn (he is in a slight turn, not significant), and was the right thing to do, to not overshoot him.😉
best produced so far... loved it. It would be nice another round with the same pilot with more similar planes
Liking the 3rd person view. Helps build that situation awareness.
Mirage vs F14 ? Low speeds?
(But be careful of all aspect fox 2s.) Finish your fights quickly.
props to the F -5 he was always maneuvering very well he did put a fight there even tho he was unpowered
SICK new logo bro!
point defense thanks u man. Glad you like it.
Great cinematics, thanks for sharing !!!
my pleasure thank you for watching
I can't wait to see you pilot the F-16!
👍🏻👍🏻🔥🔥😱 new logo is hot
ITS PhlyWeekly thanks man. I think I've settled on this one. Won't be changing it anymore in the future.
what else can I say ? thank you !! we (I ) need more dogfight technics explainations like this, it's very pedagogic for a noob like me . please do more dogfight tutorials :-)
Wills Wings I agree on that issue too. Noobs learn a lot from Growling.
Quality as always
Great videos and explanation on tactics. I really enjoy watching you dog fight. Just downloaded the game.
The roll in a high yo-yo, while not necessary, is a good practice as it allows you to maintain a visual. As the defender if you see someone attempt it without a roll, know they have broken LOS and it's time to break hard. My $.02
The physics of aviation is fantastic!
that F5 looks so much like a MIG-28 ;-))
It was a very good dogfigher, and the F-5 pilot was very good at conducting scissors maneuvers against the Mirrage. This was a very tactical combat in my opinion, which made me wish to learn more about the F-5, because even being a fighter inferior to Mirrage, the F-5 pilot was able to hold the fight with very interesting maneuvers, and perform defensive maneuvers well Aggressively and almost surprising the French plane. In fact, I venture to say that the F-5 pilot was much more strategic than other pilots I saw here on this channel flying the F-18, or Migs.
Yay electric cakeslice! Happy to see some M2000 clips. Great job as usual.
What a fun and intense dogfight!
Your intro info is the best
Well done bud, you’ve Sussed out most of the handling characteristics already. It can be a giant airbrake as you said.
Good effort going with the radar gun solution. I hate that snake. Hate it lol
Also, there’s a switch somewhere to slow the gun rate, makes the rounds last a little longer. Think it’s right of the weapons panel
thanks brother, ya i'll deff turn down the gun rate, the damn snake is so bad, i'm basically using ww2 deflection shooting instead of using the snake anyway lol.
@@GrowlingSidewinder Unguided gun snake for the win 07
Hey man, it's Fox here, you know...the one that made all dem videos about jets and stuff.
My account got banned because youtube for some fuckall reason decided to, but i'm still followin you
Great vid as always
damn why would they do that you were just making jet videos lol.
Oh wow! This is amazing.
You should play more on instantaneus than sustained turn [bleed those excess speed - gain more angle] ,should play the 'AoA' more to control the 'speed'.
Your mirage vs Gripen was amazing fight you owned him
MotoMarios id love to do a mirage 2000-5 but we don't have it in DCS there is talk of something like that in the future tho.
Good video as always!
You mean a Tranche 3B Typhoon with CAPTOR-E, PIRATE and all the bells and whistles?
@@svenschwingel8632 yeah right 3b, not 4^^. And yes all the bells and whistles:D
nice video, hope you'll take the M2k more often to master it 😎
tonyHern865 I can't wait to get some BVR action in it. It's going to take some time to develop some nice tactics tho. It's not the best aircraft for BVR
Loving your videos, great work, keep'em coming. Would also like a M2k vs F16 like MotoMario proposes, thanks
Ps. I had very few hours on DCS but I have thousands on other simulators and games - flew most with F-22, F-15C, Mirage 2000, F-18 Super Hornet, MiG-29 and A-10, less with Rafale-M, F-14, F-16, AV-8B, F-35, various MiGs [21, 25, 31], F-117, Me-262, etc., without counting many hours on propellers such as Spitfire, Me-109, P-38, P-40 and so on)
Flying the Mirage is easy and difficult.
Max VonNitten In wich sim you got the Rafale ?
It seems pretty rare
@@maximerunningandstuff8837 Had it in FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator X), Rafale-M which is the naval single seat version deployed on their carrier
At combat weight the F5 has about 0.750:1 thrust to weight. The 0.4:1 ratio is at MTOW, with a full load of bombs, missiles, full fuel and drop tanks.
great video.
I hope you make a video of your setup one day. Joystick, head track, etc and key bindings. That would be real nice. Put on a ski mask if you don't want people to see your face :D
Nice new pfp man
No one literally no one noticed the camo 0:54 (Ότι καλύτερο) I forgot why this jet still is so excited nice work on the viedeos
Just an idea, but slow mo of the kill at the end of the flight portion would be pretty cool.
Great videos man, tackview background music could be a bit more dramatic IMHO
i was very close into getting to an air combat school in the army in my country. since then i feel the simulation is the closest thing i can do. Mirage 2000 is my alltime favourite aircraft. for someoe just starting DCS without any prior sim experience, where can i look up in order to learn how o operate he Mirage and it's controls?
For some reason, I've never gave love to the mirage. I just don't know why. I really like it too, but everytime I have an option to fly it, I just put it down. Idk why, but I gotta stop. It's a beautiful aircraft.
firebird213-_ I had the same problem until recently. I have to say I don't regret putting in the time to learn it.
