I've been following the channel for some time now and very rarely comment on videos, but this one is something more. Awesome segment about the past and great hints what is going on during the dogfight, definitely easies up the entry level knowledge, the area I remember struggling myself the most with at the beginning. You lifted up the quality to the whole new level, and I sincerely hope it will become a new standard. Stellar job GS, thank you!
@@GrowlingSidewinder Yeah I just scrolled down to say this was a next level video - and its already the top comment. Something about how you called out strategies in advance, critiqued his moves etc made it feel like dogfighting school... more so than usual... Nice work.
Glad to see that I'm not the only person who noticed the whole other level of effort that's been put into this video. It was refreshing to see the combination of a lot of different styles and techniques I've seen GS implement in past dogfighting videos, but never have they all been implemented at once into one video! This video definitely had a whole other level of effort put into it and it hasn't gone by unnoticed. Good stuff GS, we'd love to see more videos like this, but we also understand how much more work it takes to make ;)
Love the intro, you do the documentry style really well. Honestly if I had to explain to someone what a dogfighting was, how complicated it is and how beautiful and aggressive the flying is, this video would be how I did it. An awesome demonstration of everything that makes dogfighting great, Thankyou GS
Fighting against the Viper really shows how strong the momentary nose-on pull for the -14 can be. It's like it just has that little bit extra to spare so long as you're not already using it and are ready to take the shot.
That close quarters fight after 9:40 or so with the F-16 was fucking incredible. Managing to keep control despite throwing all kinds of angles in the F-14 can't have been easy. Flying the bloody thing like it was a Flanker, and nearly succeeding!
I'd love to watch a video where you explain some of the different types of dog fighting maneuvers and strategies, maybe adding which aircraft typically excel at each one. Great video here with the context on each aircraft before, love it!
That 2nd fight, even though the Viper ultimately won, was a textbook of beautiful defensive flying on your part, and beautiful offensive flying on the Viper's part. Stuff like this is why I love your content, GS; there is always a rich opportunity to learn more about BFM, ACM, and all forms of aerial combat. The deadly geometry, the sky dance, is also something I find beautiful in the extreme.
You’ve raised the bar with this one! History intro, red circle to help us follow the dot, great editing of inside than outside view of the same event… and man, round 2, talk about max performing the jets. Both of you just hanging on your thrust… just really great stuff.
When I was in Air Force JROTC (and before I had to get glasses), I *desperately* wanted to be an F-16 pilot. Outdated as the aircraft is, it still holds a special place in my heart. Love the content, my dude. I fly vicariously through you now.
Loved the detailed commentary on the first round. I don't play DCS, yet. but I enjoy discovering more about dogfighting and BVR tactics. I've been able to implement them in other games and it has paid off.
Really really like the combo history + dog fight video here. Haven't been a huge fan of the pure history doc type videos - interesting info but a bit dry. But this is perfect, gives more context to the fight.
Thank you for throwing in Fighting Falcon. As a historian, using the official name once in a while prevents the nickname being mistaken as official in the future.
That second fight was fun to watch. Both pilots flew really well and smartly. I loved the end where you 2 damn near stalled both your planes in order to get behind the other to shoot. Awesome flying from both of you
Love the F 16, even though my dad flew the F 18, so that's my favorite jet. But the company he flies for recently got dozens of block 60 F 16s, that may be sent to where he works, and he may learn to fly. It'd be interesting to hear about the differences between the different aircraft he's flown in a dogfight.
Thanks, GS, Please make more intro's like this where you are explaining the aircraft and a brief summary about it! It helps me to learn more in detail about the aircraft Thanks!
Ben watching you vids for a while. Good stuff and lots of help. Ran across you intro dogfight sounds in the 1989 f14 vrs Libyan mig encounter and was pumped. Keep up the vids!
Great video! Once again, knocked it out of the park. I also wanna say that I really love the videos where you provide information on each aircraft beforehand. Really educational and helpful.
*I LOVE THIS FORMAT!* Damn you've upped the quality here, I love this. I wouldn't expect you to do this every video, but dang if it doesn't give me the perfect video to introduce family and friends to the channel! My oldest brother was in the Air Force... ... as an Arabic translator. There were two times back during the Iraq/Iran conflict where he told us "Listen, I love you guys, and not only may you not hear from me again, they won't be able to tell you what happened. I'm heading to Crete." I the littlest sister loved him terribly, and I wanted to grow up to be a fighter pilot, though at the time girls weren't going to be "allowed" to fly jets. Personally I don't think women should be frontline troops, OR fighter pilots... but in general, a pilot is a bit more acceptable to me? Especially now that we can just Xbox a bird overhead... doesn't get YOU involved though, both the benefit and disappointment. ...am I babbling? I'm babbling. GREAT video, going to show this one to my eighty year old parents. This was the era my brother was in, as well, so it adds a lot. We weren't hyper military and stuff, but we did know and appreciate the tech that was going on. The thing we were all most focused on was hoping and praying everyone, EVERYONE from every country, could come home safe to their families. Great work Sidewinder, I've been binging your channel for a few years now. You are a wonderful and humble super-talented man, a national treasure. Thank you.
Eating up all your f-16 vids, I'm a noobie to DCS with the F-16 and desperately trying to learn. You explain everything so well, thanks for all the help!
That last AIM9M was from a batch that was carefully hand polished and fettled by the ground crew before takeoff. The IR seeker window had been lovingly polished with Windex -Military Grade and each of its tail fins and roller bearings were lighly coated in WD40 -mil spec prior to takeoff. You can see the results for yourself as it proudly chases down that maneuvering Grumman and detonates with pride off its port quarter. ps.That's a strong YES from me re: the red circle...
wd40 is not a lube that should be used on a bearing of any type in fact it isnt a lube at all its a solvent so putting it on any bearing would cause more harm than good as solvents break down lube it would also probably dry before the missile gets a chance to leave the rail bearings get oil or grease nothing else
GS, really appreciated the intro on both fighters. I was around when those films were made. I remember it was the F-16 Falcon and the F-20 Tigershark going at it for the next fighter for the Air Force. Yeager was really pushing for the F-20, but the F-16 was clearly the better airframe. For those who don’t remember, the F-20 was a souped up version of the F-5.
Oh, that first kill was glorious. "He should have followed me vertical" - yes. First one from point A to point B dies. Great second dogfight. The third made me wonder if differential thrust couldn't help the F-14 with it's wide set engines. Throw one of those flat spins at him. But, you killed the F-16. Great video. Great job.
That was some beautiful ground level flying in round two by both aircraft seeing who could get the slowest, I really enjoy your videos with the occasional history lessons.
Loved the format of this video. Possibly a topic for you to talk about during one of these videos (Maybe even a video dedicated to it...) is how you manage to keep sight of the bandit so well. That is the Nr1 thing I struggle with during any kind of BFM.
I'm sure there's going to be someone saying that the red circle is like an NHL broadcast with the blue halo on the puck, but ordinarily I can't see the bandit in these videos (it's why I don't play warplane sims), so I appreciate that. Also the subtitles were great, there's probably a bunch of things that both pilots are doing than a running vocal commentary can communicate.
"Not a pound for Air to ground' was the marketing jingle... I remember it well, the adfs seemed all over every aviation magazine when I was a kid in the seventies. And you were wallowing through the air like a drunken sailor trying to find his land legs in the moments before F16 took your gravity stabiliser away.
Okay, this format is ***INTERESTING*** DocuTainment : Describe two birds with some nice docu info and then pitch them against each other.. in the same vid. Brilliant.

It’s like a promo to a ufc fight. Lol. Love it. I’m curious if with the addition to the red circle we could try the eye tracker bubble again. Shit maybe even throw just a round with the eye tracker mixed in the video to introduce it again after almost a year. Idk maybe most people didn’t like it then and I didn’t notice because I thought it was cool
I still think that the red circles take something away from these videos. Before, I had to think by myself where the enemy will appear and had to look out for him, just like the pilot has to do. Now it's easy to see without me having to think, but I'd still prefer if we have to do something by ourselves. For me, it's not feeling like I'm sitting in the cockpit with you anymore, but like I'm watching a presentation. I hope you get my point, my English isn't that good.

F15 STOL-MTD vs F22 like you did a few years back, but use differential thrust in the f15 to see if you can stay in the fight longer.
What about streaming ? Also do something Wild Weasley

Agreed, unfortunately I don’t think they’ll do it until all of the classified data becomes publicly available.

@@diegodollarhide6663 why is anything still classified on an airframe that was retired 20 years ago?
