Jay Leno said he went to visit Rodney at the hospital when he had fallen into a coma. The nurse told Jay to reach out his hand so Rodney would know he was there. Jay Leno put his finger in Rodney's hand and Rodney squeezed his finger. Jay said he whispered, hey Rodney that's not my finger and got a slight smile from him shortly before he passed.

@@moose11vt then you had an exceptionally nice childhood, because it took you a while to expecience enough hardships in life to recognize where the humor is, you cant appreciate viewing someone overcoming the hardships untill you understand how difficult they are
but you know its not every day you see a person strapping a saddle onto those hardships, and riding those hardships to the top, and acheiving victory using those same hardships which caused him a lifetime of pain as a tool to cause happyness in millions of others who have relatable feelings but never realized they could do that. most just are defeated by pain, but he showed how to escape the enslavement of his past, control the hurt to create pleasure.
thats why people enjoy sports, or video games. the thrill of the battle and success over difficult circumstances.

Rodney Dangerfield was leaking Mafia stories. Almost sounds like his wife was owned by the mob all along, and his bits are essentially daring jabs at the situation. Such that even Mafia goons running circuits like Vegas, Jersey Shore, Miami, etc were who paid to see Rodney goofing on their own dysfunctional families that they weren't allowed to mention. Rodney's wife sounds like the gate keeper on Rodney. But the Mafia is also who got him gigs. But they didn't like that Rodney started hinting around on TV that Mafia was running him for many years until he got into the movies. Then he got high and just rolled with it. Rodney knew which mob ran which clubs. And his paycheck depending upon walking that tightrope. Like all stand-up comics really, but I suspect Rodney Dangerfield was from a very young boy on Long Island turf, keenly aware who was who unlike anyone else.

      @azza-in_this_day_and_age 5 лет назад +4

he said all the bad things about himself before anybody else got a chance xD it gave him power over them. he took back and then harnessed them, used the bad things to create good in his life and untold millions of other lives he met!
people didnt even realize they could do that.. not only does one NOT have to be enslaved by their past, he showed peeps have to enslave their past, and put their past to work, and the pain and past become the very method used to acheive victory.
rodney had been crushing the entire time < 4 years old, he was such a legend that he starting spontaneously spawning additional legends! if the comedians he gave a boost to, boost the next generation, then his spirit remains very much alive and if they do not well he still gets no respect

More than 12 years after his death, it remains surreal that I found out about it while reading his memoir. In it, he discussed death and how hard it would be to accept. I was not reading anything else at the time. He outlived many people who lead similar lifestyles, but still, taken too soon. I can't tell him to rest in peace--he'd hate that. He needs to be resting in power with an infinite supply of pot, booze, sex, Chinese food, chocolate cake and finally, respect.

On April 8, 2004, Dangerfield underwent brain surgery to improve blood flow in preparation for heart valve-replacement surgery on August 24, 2004. Upon entering the hospital, he uttered another characteristic one-liner when asked how long he would be hospitalized: "If all goes well, about a week. If not, about an hour and a half."[29]
In September 2004, it was revealed that Dangerfield had been in a coma for several weeks. Afterward, he began breathing on his own and showing signs of awareness when visited by friends. He died on October 5, 2004-a month and a half shy of his 83rd birthday-at the UCLA Medical Center, from complications of the surgery he had undergone in August. Dangerfield was interred in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles. His headstone reads, "Rodney Dangerfield... There goes the neighborhood.

I was in a hinge cast from my toes to the top of my leg. Fortunately, we had aisle seats and I was able to extend my leg into the aisle for some extra room. It was somewhat painful, but I wouldn’t have missed that concert for anything! Loved Rodney from the first time I ever saw him on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. A true original. RIP…

I grew up watching this man.. When my parents divorced I was raised by my mom and every weekend I would watch old comedy shows and his late night appearances on talk shows. He made me laugh so much that I was transported away from the pain of not having my mom and dad together anymore. Laughter kept me sane and kept me happy and to forget about the pain. Rodney had a way of delivering his comedy like NOBODY I had ever seen before. The fact that he talked about everyday things that were wrong with him even going as far as calling himself UGLY always had me in stitches. I loved him on the DEAN MARTIN show & Ed Sullivan's show.. Johnny Carson late night 🌙.. Rodney was the best and I loved his comedy.. even in Lady Bugs 🐞 and Natural Born Killers he did a great job .. and who can forget Caddyshack ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thanks for all the great childhood memories Rodney ❤ 😊 💕

The story about him having his first job when he was 5 was sad....
Not sure if the laughter in the audience was because they thought he was joking, or uncomfortable laughter, or genuinely laughing at a 5 year old being molested.

I'm surprised Kilborn even brought that up on TV. I'm not sure if the audience really knew how serious Rodney was being about it.

it would be sad, if that still controlled him.
he took back the pain inflicted upon him and harnessed it to inflict joy upon millions. that is why people find joy in it, its funny because most people dont win agaisnt those things, and unexpectedly watching a man wield his trauma like the trauma once wielded him but for good is surprising and comical. nobody laughed about the kreep kissing little boys, thats an abomination and stomache churning

@@reubination Oh, I wouldn't say it was "mild". Yes, his childhood was unhappy, but that particular situation was a little more than mild.

So heartbroken that Rodney is gone! A very funny man who made everyone laugh! A very lonely man with a Great Depression he suffered with! It’s tough to be on the road all the time and your family & friends are back home waiting for you!! RIP my friend!!!!

So close to the end of his life in this interview but of course he had no way of knowing it. We know it though and so it make watching this video difficult as he talks about his recently published autobiography which he no doubt was proud of and a planned movie if his life so soon to end. He gave laughter to many thousands of his fans over his long career and was truly an original. RIP Rodney.

Rodney Dangerfield is more than a legend. All that aside, people don't understand the impact he had on so many young comedians in the 1980's. Jerry Seinfeld, Roseanne Bar, Andrew 'Dice' Clay, Sam Kinison, Jim Carrey, Bob Saget, and the list goes on, and on, and on. All these comedians got their start at Rodney's club called Dangerfield's. What a fucking legend.

I was a Crap dealer in Vegas the night he married Joan, they came up to the table and he bought in for 100. He shot the dice about 15 minutes, made about 4-5 hundred, then Joan took a turn. She didn’t last long. His bets for the dealers made 100. It was a pleasure to deal to him, he was very much a gentleman and thanked the other players for allowing him to shoot out of turn.

i'm a long islander. main drag, did not no, wat he say, jamaica avenue. in my neck of the woods, it was larkfield road. i lived in eastnorthport. i had such fun and memories galore. i could never go back. it is said, you can never go home again. no joke. could not afford it, firstly, and it's lost it's luster. i am so content to live in binghamton and it is just a short bus ride away to the beach which i'm not as fond of anymore. love it here and love rodney dangerfield. he makes everything just right.

What a life! Rodney Dangerfield was one of a kind. A product of impossibilities and improbabilities to see humor in his personal tragedies. The root of comedy is misery. And the stories Robert Klein told after Rodney's death explains why Rodney appended Henny Youngman's "Take my wife, please!". Root of misery. He's got a wife who leaves food out for the ants. After decades with the woman, she's still feeding the ants. You know by this point he says nothing, just gets stoned, writes more jokes. To get back out on the road. Away!!
