It’s unusual for me to read so much in comics format in a short time, but that’s what I have been in the mood for lately. I also have a couple of regular print novels that I am currently buddy reading. I think the graphic novel spree will continue because I have a big stack checked out from the library.

Hi Lindy. I hope your beet feast went well! That cake sounds so good to me. And thanks for showing the roses. I've been to those gardens but it was in the late fall. Still gorgeous, but a different vibe of the fall colors. We have some rose bushes in our yard (trying to figure out how to tend to them) and I saw Japanese beetles on them this morning. They say the only way to get rid of them is to pluck them off and put them in hot water and dish soap. So that's what I did. I guess that will take up some of my summer hours now.

@@anenthusiasticreader Sonya, the beet feast was so much fun! I looked for a beet chocolate cake recipe online and there are many. Initially I chose one posted by David Lebovitz because I trust his recipes, but then I saw that he uses 5 eggs in it. I’m sensitive to eggs (I can tolerate one in a cake, but definitely not 5) so I searched for a vegan recipe instead. That one used flax meal, olive oil and whole wheat flour, so maximum healthy! I decided to counter the flax flavour with a ganache topping plus a sprinkling of thyme blossoms. (I combine thyme with chocolate in ice cream sometimes; it’s a nice combo.)
I’m glad you enjoyed the rose garden footage. Butchart Garden changes every time I visit and I feel lucky to take advantage of my yearly pass and visit often.

Hello Lindy, I had never heard about the residential schools of Canada before I joined the community. I don’t think it’s easy to get these memoirs in Hawaii, but I’m definitely going to try.. If not, I’m sure I can find a copy online. The scarf in the butterfly sounds like a good place to start. I prefer to read women’s memoirs in general. The first graphic memoir I read was. “Can’t we talk about something more pleasant?“ By Roz Chast. I loved it, but a few others I read afterwards weren’t as powerful to me. Then I started reading suggestions by various booktubers in the community and enjoyed quite a lot of them.
When I remember, reading is “welcome to Saint hell”. I enjoyed that one quite a lot and learned a lot as well.
Next year, I won’t miss the roses! Aloha dear friend
