Lovely to hear about your reading as always! I have been working all through the weekend so I missed the live but will treat myself to it belatedly. Gay Girl Prayers has been on my radar and I loved what you read out from it! Ablaze with Colour looks beautiful too.

Yay! I must remember to angle the camera better next time, to get the entire feeder in view. I was hiding from the sun. I also need to remember to stay far enough back from the camera so that my chin isn’t cut off! 🤷

Such a joy as always. Loved those snippets from Gay Girl Prayers (so irreverently fun!), and I’ve added it to my book budget list for next payday, along with Black Girl You Are Atlas. Ablaze with Color is so intriguing-you’ve convinced me to start dipping into picture books. …Off to go down all the internet rabbit holes you’ve left for me. Happy Reading. 📚

I just recently picked up the Austin books and the Gonzalez book from the library. Adding Out of This World and Wine Ghost to my TBR list. I'm so glad you shared A Brief for the Defense - it's one of my favorite poems, and I actually just got "stubborn gladness" tattooed on my wrist a couple weeks ago. Loved hearing your thoughts on all of these books and seeing your little hummingbird friend!🩶

Thanks for watching and for your lovely comments. I cheer every time an adult mentions they want to read a picture book I talked about. And did you notice the beautiful sprayed pink edges on Wine Ghost Goes to Hell? (I forgot to point that out when I talked about it.) I am glad to hear that A Brief for the Defense is one of your favourites. We obviously have a lot in common as readers; I hope you enjoy E Austin and X Gonzalez as much as I did.

Hi Lindy, Black girl you are Atlas sounds amazing! I started reading picture books since my granddaughter was born five years ago and I am amazed how beautifully they are illustrated compared to when I was a child. I am interested in the discussion And will watch when I wake up😊 I want to listen to you so black. So thank you for putting it down below. Aloha friend.

Hello my friend, and thanks so much for your enthusiasm! Printing technology has come a long way and we are lucky to see art so beautifully reproduced in modern picture books. Hooray for great poetry, too, both on the page and in spoken word performance. I’m sure you will enjoy hearing Theresa Tha SONGBIRD. 😁

Yes, Loveis Wise is such a great illustrator! I have another of their picture books to talk about in my next video: Magnolia Flower, which is a short story written by Zora Neale Hurston. And speaking of pretty, did you notice the hot pink sprayed edges on Wine Ghost Goes to Hell? Thanks for watching, Kevvie. 🤗😘🏳️‍⚧️

I saw someone talk about Gay Girl Prayers and instantly tbr'd it last week, but hadn't put together it was the same author as Everyone in this Room! That makes a lot of sense. Definitely something I think will click with my background.
I also couldn't help but be reminded of a band in my youth (that was a spin off album from a big popular Christian band) that did this incredibly moving song that almost always brings me to tears, Under Bridges by Brave Saint Saturn. They made an unbelievable controversy by just simply pointing out in their refrain that Jesus is found in and for the "undesirables" to the Christian community.

I love picture books and all sort of graphic novels: illustrations add yet another dimensions to reading experience.
I also like poetry a lot, even though one friend of mine once told me that the poetry genre is dead and why to rhyme stories in modern era. I completely disagree, I feel that poetry slows down reading pace and makes readers stop to think after each sentence. Poetry is also like concentrated portion of a person's wisdom.
Thank you for your video once again!

Aleksandra, thank you for your comments. I like the way you describe poetry as concentrated wisdom. I agree-it’s a potent way of asking questions about, if not answering, the biggest questions in life. I’m curious if your friend who finds poetry irrelevant is Russian. The reason I ask is because I have been led to believe that poetry is held in high regard in Russia.
I also agree with your view that illustrations add another dimension to our reading experience. They stimulate our imagination and engage our mind in a different way than text.
      😘🤗

@@lindysmagpiereads Apologies, I completely forgot to respond to your comment: actually, my friend is not Russian, but he is also not very much into reading diverse range of books. You are absolutely right: I was raised into liking poetry so much, we had so many poets to learn, even memorize. On top of it I was also intoduced to Latvian poets, which made me like this genre very much.
