  • Hello and welcome to Rich Textures Crochet!
Today we are going to learn how to crochet the moss stitch. This stitch is sometimes called the granite stitch and it creates a simple solid fabric that looks almost as though it's been woven.
It is a great stitch for beginners and intermediate crocheters alike. I is formed using a combination of Single crochet stitches and chain stitches.
    Thank you for watching!

I've been watching moss stitch videos and frogging for two days. You're such a good teacher! I finally got it right. Thank you!

Had forgotten how to do the moss stitch, even though last year I made a beautiful lap throw with it! So I wanted to refresh my memory by checking out a tutorial. I went through three tutorials, each with their own take and in each one I found something confusing, not well explained, or difficult to see where they were putting in the stitches. But your tutorial is very good and I have no problems, even on the ends and beginnings of rows, which often gives me trouble.

I love this. I've never done the moss stitch in crochet, only in knit. I'm going to try this in a baby blanket - baby blankets are my favourite. I love listening to you and love your energy/vibe. I'll be binge watching as I just discovered your channel today.

Thank you for such clear instructions. Crochet teachers start this stitch in two different ways but yours has been the clearest and I have ended up with straight edges for the first time. A miracle! LOL

Wow its funny how differently each person does the same stitch. I watched another video with completely different directions. Why is that,? Yours is easier. Yay.

I do even chain numbers and I never end with a single crochet. I start my first row like stayed in the 4th chain from hook. So at the end of the row I add an extra single crochet cause I frogged many times and still can't get it fall in the pattern. The extra single crochet doesn't really change if to much.

I can do most stitch in a triangle or diamond shape. When I try working it in a straight line the ends curl up. What to do?

Could you help me? When a tension square asks for 13 stitches in 4 inches, does that mean 14 of the sc bit or does it mean 14 total stitches (so 7 SC and 7 chain)? Thank you!

Hi Tara, the Hook was handmade locally by Viscount Woodturning. Unfortunately I do not believe that he sells them online although he does have an Etsy Shop (by the same name) where he can be contacted.
