      A bass that size is VERY old. Been avoiding nets and trawlers all its life. Almost certainly a female. It will live to breed again and almost certainly not be caught again. All big bass should be returned without question! :-)

    Fully understand why you concealed your spot, I’m the same. Our bass marks are hard earned.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  3 года назад

      That must of been amazing 👍 I must admit I knew it was well hooked and not flipping around I. The fish’s mouth. Ref marks as you know you could well fish that mark and if tides and times are not right you will blank over and over again. Most of the time it’s the gill nets coming in the next day that I worry about but I actually had to drive here for a couple of days after the video and no one was there and I blanked too! if you don't mind me asking.. how do you get the zonk to do something similar to the patchinko. As far as i can tell the zonk is listed everywhere as a deep diving lure and the patchinko is a surface lure. Where i live the water is relatively shallow and i'd love to try the zonk but worried i'd snag up all the time.

    Wow, what a fish! Just shows why we never give up on a dream catch. You guys down south are lucky to have the bass that you've got, even if it is needing help. Scottish bass (north east anyway) are much fewer. It takes a dedicated angler to catch up here. They are around but its definitely a proper challenge.

I used to catch a lot of big bass from certain marks I knew, but I’ve noticed that in the last five or six years, big bass are much fewer in number. Wow what a bass! Congratulations, I'm just starting out with lure fishing, and having never used Braid before I'm thinking of just using a mono line straight through, as I'm comfortable using this line, and having never tied braid to leader aswell, do you think I will be ok using a mono straight through? My reel is a penn III 3000 dx the rod is an HTO 12-42g

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  2 года назад +1

      Yes that set up is all you need ! There are some advantages to braid for sure but I mainly use it as it gives a better feel of what the lure is doing. Fluorocarbon is a harder line that stops the braid near the lure getting sheared. So again even that is not essential especially if you fish over clear ground or the boat. Every knot is a potential weak spot but I’d continue as you are and maybe try the braid flouro set up when you have caught a few fish. Thanks for the message Sam I look forward to hearing how you get on

      I completely agree with you. It's not us that cause the oceans from getting depleted. Even 1000 fisherman fishing 24/7 at the shore can not haul in the amount of what one trawler hauls in in an hour, on daily base. But that doesn't mean that I'll keep every fish. If it's big enough to feed me and my wife, and we feel like eating fish that day: I'll keep it.
      Cheers.

    Great video & what a catch. Just out of curiosity, what's the head camera you're use to film the video? Is it a GoPro or a cheapie version of one? I've been looking for something on a budget to film my fishing when on holiday. Do you use an internal/external microphone? Sorry for all the questions. Any advice would be great.Thanks :)

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  4 года назад +1

      I used a GoPro 5 . They have pros and cons. I didn’t then but use separate mics with a zoom h1 now. Most of the saltwater angler videos are. A mixture now of iPhone 11, a canon 700d dslr camera and gopros. If your on a budget check out a 5 but also maybe a yi4k is worth looking at.

    Nice fish, I was plug fishing in August 2019 in Gran Canaria. Hook something on the sandy beach literally 12 feet away and I couldn't turn the fish got spooled in no time at all. In the end I just held out until the mono snapped (recovered my braid). I shall never know what it was. I was using 16 lb braid but the fish was too big. Looking at your first couple of runs you managed to stop the fish. I wish I know what I hooked! Well done mate.

      @@SaltwaterAngler Love your fishing blogs. I done some research online, it may also have been a Leerfish (never seen one). Anyway this year managed to go to Croatia (family holiday). Took my beachcaster and a beefed up spinning outfit. Only to be disappointed. There's literally no fish in the Adriatic sea. I even went to a remote island insearch of bass only to be dissapointed. My advice to all, if you are going to Croatia for a family holiday - LEAVE your fishing gear at home!

    Top catch buddy. To be fair, the beginning and middle of the video had some really great action. I think being so close to the water, it being so clear with no wind and also the fact that fish were present all contributed. Catching a cracking fish and getting it all on camera. What more can you ask for?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  6 лет назад

      Thanks for leaving this comment. It's rare for everything to come together, I hadn't thought about the wind being slight that definitely helped the fish sporting in the slow mo. For next year I've got an underwater rig to film them under water. Thanks again

      Bass are habitual ( until they are caught) so I know a minority of people will watch videos just to recognise a specific mark. I need to keep some of these private as I have spent many years testing out tides and individual rocks to find out when the fish come along

    A magnificent fish! Never caught one that big (a bass) What the viewer doesn't get is your heart pounding in your chest with the fear of it getting off! I had this when I caught my 27lb cod on the Pier at Newhaven.I like the way it conveys the time and effort it takes to subdue a fish of this size. It always looks better when someone else films it, you have quite enough to think about fighting the fish!
