  • I don't get to go lure fishing for bass all that often and so when I do get the opportunity it tends to be a long day.
    UK bass fishing can be tough when you live in an area with few fish and in this video travelled a long way from home, walked a lot and went to new areas that don't always hold bass.
    I tried a few different lures while searching for the fish- top water, sub-surface and metals jigs- but old faithful Patch 125 did the business.
    Tackle-

    Absolute class video. The terrain, the drone footage, the commentary and advice, the whole package. 👏👌👍.
    Then just when you think that's it, the perfect camera angle to see the bass eye up, then take the lure at the surface. Priceless.

    Rather than pull off, when they go into the kelp/leaving the hook in, let out slack and take a break for 10 mins or so, or switch to a second blank, until you sense movement below, they will often come out when the pressures been off for a while. Depending on hook set, some of them don't survive if it stays in.

    As John lock often says "you can catch big fish on small hooks but you can't catch small fish on big hooks " .
    I got a pack of very similar pre hook n weighted little sandeels 15 gram and I used em Last year with great success on big Pollack and mackerel, it was one of those days where the shinny metal wasn't working and after catching a couple of nice fish the lads I was with were "oh do you have one I could borrow?" Borrow I said lol!! And I only had 5 and rock marks like that have snags so I think between us 1 lure returned but we all caught a good few fish b4 they either got snagged or were just chewed to pieces after all the hits from Pollack..

    Love the channel man, new to fishing and I’ve learned a lot watching here. This might seem like a random question but do you often carry your rod in the backpack like at the start of this video? I was afraid I’d break it but it would make a few of my treks a bit easier without the rod bag. I hope this isn’t too much of a novice question!

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 года назад +1

      Not a novice question at all! Most of the marks have a bit of scrambling to get to them so I always have my rods attached to my bag. You're right though, you could break them, just need to remember they're there and you'll be fine!

    @chrismordue5741 Год назад +1

    Hey. I've just started to lure fish so very novice question (or maybe just daft) how long do you usually give a location, when targeting bass before you move onto the next?

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  Год назад

      Hey, that's a good question and one that's hard to give a definitive answer to. It really just depends on how fishy an area looks. I like to fish any point with a topwarer lure because, if the fish are there, they'll show up in a few casts. If not, then I'll try a sub surface and a soft plastic. If I don't catch within a few casts of these then I'll move on. Hope this helps

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  3 года назад +1

      I absolutely love it! It's the first time I've spent serious money on a lure rod and don't regret it. It's super light and amazingly sensitive, not ultra steely either (which I like). If I had to find something negative then it would be that it's too light to throw a patch 130, but I knew that before I bought it.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 года назад +1

      I wasn't planning on doing one, but now you've mentioned it, it seems like a good idea. The things that determin a good mark can change depending on the species you're after- bass are often in shallow water, pollack tend to like deeper water. What species do you normally target?

      For me the advice I'd find priceless is how to assess an area and determine what to fish for and best methods.
      you're videos are very precise in terms of you know what species are in the area what method will produce and you seem to be able to determine this from just looking at the type of mark you're on.. I struggle to identify species to tactics unless I've spoken to someone local...

    My daughter and I just got back from 3 days on Skye and 4 days at Carradale bay. I managed one bass (and loads of pollack) on a shallow diving surface lure off a rocky point about 15 minutes paddle south of Carradale, which made the trip :) I've also caught one close to the wind turbines off Seaton Sluice - it's a fair paddle though. Thanks for another great video !

    Pollack love those small crazys. Little flick and let them dart down . Or a little speed up and a dead pause . But if I let them swing down on a mended line I hit bass . Really don't know why the Ps like em drilling and the bass arcing. But I've had hundreds each way to establish both methods.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  3 года назад +1

      Good knowledge! It is strange because I find the pollack normally like a slower sinking bait. Codling like that lure on a slow sink/arc too

    That's a lovely looking Bay at the end of the video, we really are lucky to have such beautiful locations in the UK 🇬🇧 ❤ gorgeous bass , I've only ever caught tiny schooley bass they're few and far between down my local spot and although I do know of a couple of beaches where people catch em fairly regularly at this time of year but they are remote areas I don't drive no buses and I couldn't manage a 20 mile walk but I do keep hinting to my m8 that I know of a couple of hot spots I'll show him if he doesn't mind doing the transport, it's just too good an opportunity to miss out on this chance of a keeper bass, that said they recently got rid of the species signs and size limits on the piers down south of the island and theirs just one picture of a bass and the take home size has to land between 50cm to 60cm no more no less. Is their any rules like that where you fish? As I know it's different all over the country ie in Cornwall I think you weren't allowed to keep any bass at all for so many months of the season.

    Eyup Nathan. Well that was mint and it's all been said below except that your reaction to hitting the bass was as though you'd spotted some really good gear drop out of the vicar's pocket during vespers. You know where you are when the rocks are folded like the dodgy jam butties you made when you were a kid or have just gone sideways. And the barnacles take the flesh off in strips. Cymru am byth!
