If you look at Tom Brady's first three Super Bowl wins, he didn't put up those gaudy passing numbers. He was just considered a "very good" QB on a loaded Patriots team. It wasn't until around 2006 when he was truly "HIM" and put up all those passing yards, TDs, and more championships, and was considered the best player on his team. Man truly did have two Hall of Fame careers in one.

@@razorbeard6970 OP’s point is that Brock Purdy is a good QB because he played Super Bowl, which is poor reasoning. Therefore, I was saying if that’s the case then Grossman is a good QB. Of course Purdy > Grossman, but that’s not a good reason for Purdy being a good QB.

He's in the NFL as the full time starter producing great passing stats and is clearly a major reason his team is playing in the Super Bowl. The problem is people insist on having this “fan” conversation of wanting to rank him.
Why can’t he just be “Brock Purdy, the best 49ers QB since Steve Young”. That is pretty much factual. To be able to know what this kid will eventually be we need a bigger sample size, right now he’s giving the 49ers elite QB play, that is also factual, be it by his supporting cast or else, it’s still elite QB play. One day we will know more, but, for now, he’s OUR QB in the Super Bowl, so, to the 49ers he’s the best QB in the world right now!! He’s one of two QBs standing, and he’s the best 49ers QB since Steve Young with a shot at winning a Super Bowl, and that is awesome.

So I will state upfront that I am a 49ers fan and I am a little bias, in saying that here is my thoughts on Purdy.
It's to early in his career to label what he is ... This is his second year in the league and his first full year as a starter. When he is in his 4th year we can see more on what he actually is.
I will fully point this out ... 2 years in the league , 4 playoff wins , 2 playoff winning drives and a 18-5 regular season record. Career stats 68.7 completion percentage 44 tds 15 ints. Has more playoff wins then Lamar and Dak combined... You can't sit there and say those two QBs are not on talented team themselves... You can say he isn't the most physically gifted QB but there are a lot of players in Canton that weren't the most physically gifted in their era either.
Will Brock have that kind of career ... I don't know but he has a had a good start and if he does win the Superbowl he will cement himself in 49ers lore.

He was given the keys to the $250k sports car and told to parallel park it. He did it on the first try. If you put Sam Darnold in his position, it’s not so easy to expect him to deliver the same numbers over a whole season.

      @RDSports5 9 месяцев назад +9

He not only parallel parked that 250k vehicle, but once he stepped out of the car, it was shinier than when he stepped into it. The 49ers were great before Brock, but they became dominant for several stretches of the season. They scored 30 or more 10 times this season (including playoffs). Only the Cowboys scored 30+ more times (11 total), and one of those was in their 48-32 defeat to the Packers.

Mfs don’t take into account that brocky does NOT play in a QB friendly offense. Like, AT ALL. Glock Purdy: plays with garbage O-line (except Trent), playbook is stacked a mfing mile high (biggest in the nfl), play-action + crazy read assignments down field would make ANY qb get the spins in confusion, and to top it off Kyle has a bad habit of calling crazy plays where a free rusher has an opportunity to dig a MF GRAVE for the qb unless the qb plays perfectly and scrambles out of the pocket to make a play outside of the “system”. and that’s just the shortlist. Argue all you want, this dudes never been a game manager. Average in stature, elite in gameplay if you ask me.

  • @natbrain9149
    @natbrain9149 9 месяцев назад +3

At this point, you have to ask people who deny that Brock Purdy isn't one of the best QB's in the league, "What criteria do you use then?"
-> Since he's taken over, he's statistically one of the best QB's in the league in every metric. Logically, just having a great coach and great team doesn't automatically imply Brock is average as you can have a great coach and great team, and still be a great QB (eg Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Patrick Mahomes all had great teams and great coaches) so that argument fails to do the very thing which critics are using it for, i.e. to rule out that Brock Purdy is great.
-> People like JT O'Sullivan and Chase Daniel who have done detailed and extensive play-by-play analysis of Purdy have consistently shown how good he is, so the film proves it too. This isn't to say he's perfect and never has a bad play, obviously, but the overall body of work is extraordinary.
-> He's shown his ability to play from behind and has had more success in the playoffs in 2 years than many other "elite" QBs have had in many more years, so he has productivity too.
*If it's not statistics, film, or productivity, then what criteria do you use?* The only thing critics have left to resort to are subjective intuitions and pointless hypotheticals that are either impossible to prove or have been disproven, or superfluous characteristics such as arm strength beyond that which is necessary to make any throw on the field, which effectively amounts to a dick-measuring contest. None of these would ever hold up in a court of law against a growing body of ACTUAL, not hypothetical, objective data that suggest the complete opposite.

Not just the offense around him (name another QB that enabled FOUR players to make 1,000+ years, one of them being the only 2,000+ year performance of 2023), but also his head coach elevated his game as well.
ALL quarterbacks are game managers and system quarterbacks for their team. That's the job. The more relevant question is, does the QB bring something BEYOND being a game manager and understanding the system. There simply is NO DENYING that Brock Purdy brings more to the table - that he has additional skills and special abilities. If you look you will see it in every game (oh, and in the numbers, too). The one stat that I bring up, among his many #1 ranked stats among ALL QB's in the league, is his #1 in CPOE. That's Completion Percentage Over Expectation. All OE stats are weighted metrics that account for difficulty in the situation, under duress, and compared to all other QB's, averaged, in similar situations. Whether you think Purdy is elite or not, being #1 CPOE means he beat ALL the other established elite QB's in the league in the most difficult, challenging situations. If Purdy is not elite, he's at a minimum knocking on the door, hard and loud.

People also forget that he had *_MAJOR ELBOW SURGERY_* less that a year ago and wasn't expected to be ready to start until about a month into the 2023 season. He was *_WAY AHEAD_* of schedule by being ready at the beginning of Training Camp.
And people need to *_STOP_* talking about the players he has had around him. I can name MVP winning Quarterbacks who have had the same.

    1. Joe Montana had Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, John Taylor, Brent Jones and Tom Rathman.
    2. Steve Young had Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Ricky Watters, Brent Jones and William Floyd.
    3. Tom Brady had Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Kevin Faulk and Ben Watson.
    4. Peyton Manning had Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Reggie Wayne and Marcus Pollard.
    5. Kurt Warner had Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt.
    6. Aaron Rodgers had Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Donald Driver and Jermichael Finley.
    7. Patrick Mahomes had Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Kareem Hunt, Sammy Watkins and Chris Conley.
    8. Brett Farve had Antonio Freeman, Edgar Bennett, Robert Brooks, Mark Chmura and William Henderson.
    9. Dan Marino had Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, Tony Nathan, Dan Johnson and Woody Bennett.
    10. John Elway had Terrell Davis, Ed McCaffrey (CMC's dad), Shannon Sharpe, Rod Smith and Howard Griffith.
I could go on and on and list MVP QBs like Johnny Unitas, John Brodie, Ken Stabler, Fran Tarkenton, Terry Bradshaw, Ken Anderson, Joe Theismann, Boomer Esiason and Steve McNair as well. But if you haven't gotten the point by now, you never will and I just feel sorry for you.

There is no middle ground with Purdy, Hes either called crap from casual fans or people who go way overboard, or 49er fans or casuals on the other end of the spectrum call him elite and the next coming of Joe Montana. Truth is he is both actually, he makes a couple plays a game that are unreal and truly elevate the team, but he also makes many plays a game where he looks woeful. And the rest of his Qb play is generally pretty good. Thus he is just good, not top 10 or wtv but just a decent to good QB, also he played like crap these last two games and I will stand on that, well maybe not "crap" against the Lions, but not well

He's top 10. People buy into raw fundamentals of ther guys but he's got the right intangibles and the numbers to back it up. Ask me to name who I'd want starting a super bowl right now, and outside of Mahomes, Burrow, Stafford, and *maybe* Josh Allen, I'd have a hard time taking anyone else. Lamar, Tua, and Dak had good years but Brock has ice in his veins by comparison.
I'm not gonna crown him best 9ers QB since Young, he's still got some time left to prove that and Id like to see him do so without the stacked elite cast around him. And he's had a bit of a rough postseason but he's still rallied. But so far he's done almost everything he's been asked of.

The thing i find annoying is when people say Brock is like the 10th best on his team, sure, but id argue that dak, Lamar, hurts and goff are barely above top 10 on thier respective teams, out of the final four teams in the playoffs this year, i think the only qb who is easily a top 5 guy on his roster in mahomes. I feel purdy gets a lot more hate bcs his players are skill position and get more of a mention, whereas dak, Lamar, goff and even mahomes all have at least 2 more elite o line players and an overall significantly better o line, so the level of talent on their rosters gets overlooked a bit more. Not to say purdy doesnt have a better team around him but it isnt as much of a gap as it seems to be made out to be. So while i dont think Brock is a top 4/5 qb in the league he is an elite qb and has skills that most other qbs in the league cant do. Oh yeah and hes a 2nd year guy

The difference between Brock Purdy and all the other quarterbacks is that he is a scrapper besides Josh Allen I’ve seen other quarterbacks like Cam Newton get hit hard and they get intimidated and can’t bounce back from that Once you play an elite defense, now I believe that is what makes Brock Purdy u know what I mean? The fact that he is not afraid to get hit And he makes plays and scrambles when he needs to his IQ level in football is above and beyond some of these quarterbacks that’s what makes Brock Purdy elite for me.

You can’t rank him against other players on a team. A QBs weight value is 10/10. A D-lineman’s weight value is 5/10. Linebacker 5/10.
Even a receiver is no more than 6/10.
So even if a linebackers skill level is 9/10, his weight value is only 5/10.
A team can still win without a linebacker, a receiver, an O-lineman… but if you take out a QB there is zero chance of winning.
