This is by far one of the best comment I ever seen on internet. Alien 3 is my favorite Alien movie in the original trilogy (no... no more movies after that). It's a complex David Fincher visional movie... it's all about your internal reactions you have when you see and hear it... it's dark, wet, strange colorized... Elliot Goldenthal soundtrack is awesome and give you hopeless feeling. But this is the way this film must conclude the trilogy... no hope... END ! The movie is also famous for its production problems and what it could be with the original scripts (the one with the religious monks and the wooden planet... God I swear I could kill to see this movie) This is exactly the same thing with *POP*. It's an underrated masterpiece, and the record is also famous for the production problems and what it could be (go hear the Hong Kong E.P.K demos versions...) So shame on you U2 for your lack of b*** not playing "Discothèque", "MOFO", Please" or "Last Night on Earth" anymore.
@@YourLoyalDeserter The are two studio versions. The album, and the single. This live version corresponds to the single version, where the bass line at the end goes B A G# G (not the case on the album version).
@@kall2thc I'm aware. I said it sucks on the album, not in studio. The bass part on the album version is both played differently to the single version and played in the wrong key. Adam is in A minor, and the rest of the band is in B flat minor. They rushed the album version out at the last minute, and Adam must not have gotten the memo that they weren't playing a half step down (as they often do). He realizes the problem part-way through and then improvises in B flat minor for the rest of the song.
I remember seeing them play this song live in Sydney in 1998. People were literally speechless at the end. The performance was so intense and charged with emotion. They blew us away. I think many in the crowd couldn't believe U2 had just played something so extraordinary.
Same in Brisbane, blown away , a lifetime memory engrained until the day I die ( with my friend, who by the end of this was concreted firmly to BEST lol ! ) we ran a muck at 15 yo , experiences that cement relationships !
You hit the jackpot friend . 33yrs of U2 fandom and the thousands of live performances I’ve watched on YT etc etc , I concluded they seem to always be at their peak playing Feyenoord Stadium.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, and when performed live Bono puts more emotion and feeling into it in my opinion…they did say that they were really a live band…that they were better on stage than not
mely agree at 100% U2 concerts were and maybe still are something at another level. they've allways managed to innovate with shocking monster stage sets, so much spectacle visually huge and all that combined with heart shaking performances drilling thru your skin your heart and your very soul. Powerfull. No other band had ever put on a show as big as Zootv, before U2 did, after that no audiences on earth have ever seen something as astonishing as PopMart and then after that 360° Tour happened and it was again something never seen before on stage
I was in that Helsinki gig back in '97. I've been to a plenty of concerts by many artists, and this still remains the #1 for me. I was 17, and my mind was just blown off its hinges.
It's intense when the Sunday Bloody Sunday drum beat kicks in, respectively it fits just as well in this song as it does in the other. Beautiful lyrics here, truly.
One of my favorite times they have tweaked the live version of one of their songs. The drums from Sunday Bloody Sunday adds another layer of meaning to an already powerful song.
This was their first concert in Greece ever! At my hometown Thessaloniki! The most spectacular thing we ever saw!!! I was in awe! This song gives me goosebumps! Best band ever!!!
No existen las palabras para describir esta espectacular canción de U2 Please. Como otros temas que no son valorados como good part 2, kite, a sort of homecoming, Mothers Of The Disappeared, Ultra Violet, Running To Stand Still, All I Want Is You, Lemon ... y muhcas otras mas. La mas grande banda de rock de todos los tiempos. Por siempre
In my top 5 as well. Such brilliant lyrics as well, which summed up the situation in Northern Ireland at the time : « the sermon on the mount from the boot of your car «
I keep coming back to this live version, which I like even more than the one on the Pop Mart full length video. Even as a pastiche of probably two live concerts, this version is the most real, most raw, most passionate and experimentally artistic of them all. I love watching Larry wait for the beat, and Bono meaning every word he's saying. The Edge is just genious in this one - at his best.
This tour was truly groundbreaking, the screen behind them is 3,000 square feet in size (three thousand square feet). The biggest screen ever constructed, for anything - anywhere. Not just music but for anything. The cost of transporting this tour across the world was very high indeed, they didn't sell out some of the venues on the American leg of the tour and U2 feared several times on this tour that they were about to go bankrupt. Larry Mullen said in an interview later on: "we were on this tour, which was costing literally millions of pounds a week to put on, and we weren't selling out all the venues". Bono said of it later: "it would have broken most bands". What Bono meant was they were lucky enough to have personal wealth that was sufficient to subsidise the tour's losses. They were all personally out of pocket as a result, not just from the band account but from their personal accounts.
@@mrc2662 Yes, for a good while they wouldn't be drawn on it - how much it was all costing. There were three screens in all. The constructed, current one; one under construction in the next venue; all this whilst the previous one was being taken down, in order to leapfrog the other two venues, to be constructed there. Three of these screens, three crews and three venues to rent out a any one time....Expensive!

The guitar part in this version is only bettered by the Love is Blindness 'solo' during the Zoo TV Tour. Both however made my hair stand on end during the shows. Mind Blowing.
One of the more underappreciated things about U2 in my opinion is how they can turn songs that might not be the best from the albums into GOLD when they're played live. On the album, this song is good - not great. This performance, however, is just classic.
Something about the way he lifts the mike in the last 30 seconds gets me every time. Like it's symbolic for something I can't put my finger on but is moving to see.

Larry playing the drums from Sunday Bloody Sunday in the middle of the song is perfection. And then it goes into Streets, which is everything.
