      So true. It's greatness was overlooked because of U2's stupid decision to release Discotheque as the first single along with a bad video (these were the days that first singles and videos meant something) Truly everything on POP fits perfectly. And closing out with Wake Up Dead Man. Underrated does not even come close to describing how criminally ignored and berated this album was/is.

      More than solid. Had they released Last Night On Earth as the first single and NOT Discotheque with it's stupid video, I think that the entire reception of this album would have been different. They then recreated the exact same mistake for No Line On the Horizon. Another great album with a bad song for the first single that sounds nothing like the rest of the album, They can make stupid choices sometimes.

    It's sad how the band treats this period as if it didn't exist. U2 in the 90's were creative and experimental. That's why I love that period.

      @@mafcarvalho Ahh that is so cool, what an amazing memory that must be!
      Yes, Zooropa sends shivers down my spine too! When I found out that The Edge was kind of the driving force behind that album it made sense as to why it felt so unique in their catalogue. Definitely an outlet for him to distract from being back in Dublin without a home to go back to. To me it has this dark beauty just below the surface of experimentation. I will never forget listening to it in the car one day and being moved to tears by "Lemon" of all songs. That beautiful piano bit that takes the song to a whole other place, the lyrics have a tragic longing. "The Wanderer" also. The song "Zooropa" was the song I needed most for a certain part in my life. "Numb" and "Stay" are two of the greats in my opinion. Just such a special album.
      I miss "that U2" as well. I just finished reading the chapter in Bono's book about Pop and it kinda made me sad that they see that period as more of a departure from who they really are, bc to me it represents the their daring to try to find new sounds and push who they are as artists. I find their music from that period so inspiring. But regardless I will always love them, they are such a special band and their live concerts are just on another level.

    Éste es el show que mejor se ve remasterizado. Los U2 aman POPMART considerándola como la mejor gira, por encima de 360° y ZooTv Tour

    • @mrvn061
      @mrvn061 3 года назад +5

      A Zoo TV le respalda el discazo Achtung Baby y el excelente momento de forma de U2; mientras que a la gira 360 le respalda el récord de de ventas de entradas como la más exitosa comercialmente hablando. Pero PopMart marcó un antes y un después, con esa pantalla LED que para 1997 era la más grande del mundo en su tipo. Obviamente no tenía el 4K de la pantalla de las giras The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 y 2019, ni la claridad transparente de las Innocence+experience y experience+Innocence, pero ya estas no tenían nada de novedoso en comparación con PopMart. El disco POP no es el preferido de gran parte de los fans de U2, pero su gira promocional dejó una huella imborrable y eso no se puede eludir.

      @@mrvn061 Es por eso que POP es mi disco favorito. POP no está hecho para todos. Cuando tuve el CD como nuevo trabajo de U2 lo compre con mis propinas porque estaba en el colegio aún crío, venía de ZooTv, a primera escucha quedé desconcertado quise tirar POP a la basura pero poco a poco fui entendiendo la música dentro del disco y luego me gustó mucho más cuando salieron el ATYCLB el HTDAAB y el NLOTH. Amo POP y Popmart

      @@enriquemendoza11278 POP se parece a esas películas que en su momento no tuvieron el favor del público o crítica, pero que con el pasar de los años se fueron convirtiendo en una obra de culto. El problema con POP radica en que la banda lo tuvo que hacer bajo presión, pues la gira PopMart ya estaba contratada por McGuiness antes de terminar el disco, lo cual hizo que no tuvieran concordancia estética o temática algunas canciones. Si los extraes te das cuenta que pudieron estar perfectamente en otros discos. Por ejemplo, "War," "The unforgettable Fire" y "The Joshua Tree" tienen un estilo propio y definido, igual "Achtung Baby," e inclusive "Zooropa," que es una extensión del anterior. POP en cambio da la sensación de haber quedado un poco crudo, a medio terminar; pero justificando el problema de tener que terminarlo antes de la gira. "If God Will Send its Angels," "Gone," "Staring at The Sun" y "Mofo" son los temas sobresalientes de un muy buen disco que pudo ser mejor, pero, dadas las circunstancias tiene su mérito el sacar valientemente la tarea. Fue malcomprendido en su momento, pero en calidad no tiene nada que envidiarle ni a AB ni a Zooropa en la década del 90. Lo único negativo a mi parecer fue la distribución de los temas. Yo los hubiese acomodado en distinto orden; pero bueno, es cuestión de gustos.

      @@mrvn061 Ya lo dijo Edge en Sirius POP envejece muy bien y la gira POPMART está en su Top de conciertos favoritos. El orden de las canciones seguramente la planteó Bono para mí está perfecto el orden track por track en POP pasar de Mofo a IFGWSHA es contradictorio, dos polos opuestos, el infierno y el cielo... canción típica de U2 con el riff reconocible y único de Edge. Siento que en POP están los sonidos de todos los discos de U2. Es un millonario vestido de pobre. No es para todos lo repito y espero que siga así

      @@enriquemendoza11278 Precisamente por eso escribí que lo del orden de las canciones del disco era cuestión de gustos. A muchos, como en tu caso les parece perfecto; mientas a otros nos hubiera gustado otro orden. No pasa nada. Lo cierto del caso es que la gira PopMart es top 3 de las mejores giras de U2, definitivamente.
