Lyrics:
So you never knew love
Until you crossed the line of grace.
And you never felt wanted
Till you'd someone slap your face.
So you never felt alive
Until you'd almost wasted away.
You had to win, you couldn't just pass
The smartest ass at the top of the class
Your flying colours, your family tree
And all your lessons in history.
Please, please, please
Get up off your knees.
Please, please, please, please, oh yeah.
And you never knew how low you'd stoop
To make that call
And you never knew what was on the ground
Till they made you crawl.
So you never knew that the heaven
You keep you stole.
Your Catholic blues, your convent shoes,
Your stick-on tattoos now they're making the news
Your holy war, your northern star
Your sermon on the mount from the boot of your car.
Please, please, please
Get up off your knees.
Please, please, please
Leave me out of this, please.
So love is hard
And love is tough
But love is not
What you're thinking of.
September, streets capsizing
Spilling over down the drains
Shard of glass, splinters like rain
But you could only feel your own pain.
October, talk getting nowhere.
November, December; remember
We just started again.
Please, please, please
Get up off your knees, yeah.
Please, please, please, please, ah.
So love is big
Is bigger than us.
But love is not
What you're thinking of.
It's what lovers deal
It's what lovers steal
You know I've found it
Hard to receive
'Cause you, my love
I could never believe. Видеоклипы
The sound that Edge's guitar generates from 4:19 is amazing!
I am hearing alot of Adam in there too
Underrated solo
Well done EDGE
Such an underrated U2 song. An absolutely classic.
Underrated for you , real U2 fans knows the value of this song 😌
@@peau4223exactly. maybe one of their best.
One of the most powerful and underrated U2 songs. The religions, the beautiful video, deep song about Ireland and a great final part. So great
100% So powerful to this day.
I don't assume that crossing the line of grace ,is nothing but dead religion, the theme here ,to please ,leave.
Anton CORBÝN directed this video full of symbols, imagery...the greatest photographer, video director worldwide. DM s God 🧚♀️🔷️🙏 greetings from France
The most underrated U2/Anton Corbijn collaboration. Everybody talks about One or Electrical Storm but this is one of their best videos. In fact Pop has the best collection of videos.
Yeah, he also directed all Depeche Mode's Ultra videos that very same year.
😕😕😕

The best music video Anton directed for U2 and in my opinion his third best behind Enjoy the silence and Walking in my shoes
I know I'm not the only one who loves the whole Pop album.
+shinystuffff You're not!
I love pop...just like zooropa ...it is a supersonic work of art! the lyrics on the album are incredible!
Miami and Velvet Dress stop me from being able to say I love every song.
nope in my opinion its their latest best album.after all that you can leave behind, the decline started
If The Playboy Mansion and Miami had a better mix or something, Pop would have been this surreal and perfect album.
it's amazing when bono and the edge sing together
Happy 61st Birthday to U2'S Lead Singer Bono!!! Get off your knees please Bono?!!!!
Classic U2--CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED song and album.
The album version is even better--raw, inspired. And the bass line on the album...unreal.
Love adam clayton’s walking bass line
Happy 64th Birthday 🎂 to U2’s Bass Guitar Adam Clayton

A great song from an underrated album.
zooropa is underrated , pop wasn't
Underrated album... yes, but despite The Edge says it contains some of their best songs, Bono himself underestimated the whole album when he realized it wasn't a commercial hit... I think that's not a good idea to do such a thing
@@antoniomoyagarcia8644 Q
The world wasn’t ready for Pop when it came out. It’s too distracted to discover it now.
Now would be a perfect time for the world to discover the brilliance of * POP *
it's seems it isn't
I loved it at the time...and I have seen them play live twice...both times they played something from Pop and it was awesome one of the best parts of the show. For me though there just a few songs I skip and some U2 records I don't skip anything.
So truthful are your words. I just want to say that these are true for this album too - 3 Sides of a Story by Extreme..... and many more like these which slipped into oblivion and obscurity.
Well put, Philip
One of the most underrated songs of all time. I love this song. To say such simple concepts with such beautiful poetry and imagery. I like this version better than the album version.
everybody does, the album version (i can't explain myself why they did that) sucks!!
Bius Bush they were working with a certain disco producer at the time perhaps that's why. least bono blaims some of pops failings on the poor production
Jay Bod
No..it's not the case...they had booked the tour too early and were pressed to finish the album a lot quicker than they wanted to, hence the lack of inspiration on some songs...POP is perfectly produced !
The album version is really good
@@biusbush7671 No it doesn't, it's far superior to this. This version is cluttered and over-produced and the strings are so unnecessary.
Anton Korbijn's work is the best !
The one and only 🎬📸
This song was released in 1997 and we are now in 2020, this song is still so relevant. U2 are the best punk rock band of all Time
* rock!!!!
Punk rock is GREEN DAY!!!!
This version sucks The album version is far superior abd the vocals are much better and more emotional too
Rock, not Punk!!!
And this version doesn’t suck!!!
@d you replied to the wrong person, you should be replying to G!!!
I know every band a bad what their genre is✌️
I'm listening to U2 Please late July 2021!
the bass line is awesome
almost all the credits in fact must go to the bass line
'Cause love is big. You says: "Bigger than us". But love is not what you thinking of...
🥰🥰😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
It's an anesthesiologist oxytocin dosing big ass spider, isn't it.
Some years ago, I heard a guy saying: "U2 is the best band in the world", and I thought: "nah, don't think so". Now i listen everyday this huge band and I can say "that guy wasn't wrong"; at least, U2 is one of the most amazing bands that have been existed in this planet :) .
Everytime you listen their songs, you can rediscover new sounds, even the same lyrics could feel different :)

I'm sure
You are right. I fell in love with U2 when they released there War album in 1981. Their music has been in my head since. They are the Best. There are no words to describe it.
I'm not a U2 fan, at all, but this whole album, particularly Please and If you wear that velvet dress are absolutely phenomenal.
@Aaron FennellChametzky probably the fact that they fall short of their potential in the last 19 years or so.
"Wake up dead man" is great too.
YOU ARE A U2 FAN, but you don't know.... yet
if you heard them lIVE you would be a u2 fan. Popmart Live was brillliantly psychedelic blend of deep house electro and dance.
@@JAVITHRASH1983 1pPPQla//01
An underrated gem. This version is so much better than the album version and Anton Corbijn did an amazing job.
I don't like how they cut out the "September...., October...., November......December......" part. It's a powerful part of the song that really fits well.
That's what I keep saying!
BUT they DIDN't cut it !!!! Go to 3:26 !!!!!
No, the album version is so much better than this. So much more articulate and atmospheric. For me this version is so cluttered and over-produced.
The solo still gives me goosebumps.
Exactly
Album version is a pretty good song. Single version is a masterpiece.
Cuando escuché el single pensé, que coño ha pasado aquí??? La cabeza me estalló 🤯
Larry was injured when they were finishing the album and in the end they didn’t finished the album. This single is the best proof (btw for Larry this is one of the best songs that they have ever made). In fact is the less electronic song of Pop.
Gone and please are the two best songs on Pop album and two of the greatest U2 songs of all times.
Esto es una Obra de arte.
Sip

Been a U2 fan for over 10 years.. greatest band ever, but I only just discovered this song. It's awesome!
Hope you have listened « your blue room »
Happy 20th Birthday to *POP* !!!!!!
Bono is Super awesome legend ❤
MASTERPIECE
Pop is such an underrated album...I'd say it's U2's fourth best album
This is MUSIC, something that has almost disappeared from popular culture. Thumbs up!
I first heard U2 when Boy came out and was hooked immediately...I was 11. At this moment, I am showing this video to my daughter to hear music that was around long before she cam into existence - music appreciation 101. Bono and the boys have evolved and their music is timeless.
Please, guys. Like Pop. I know you have it in you.
+LeAmmitioneur It's my favourite U2 album !
m3cfister Some think the polar opposite.
They don't know what they're missing out......:D
i hope they will make a 20 anniversary edition next year like they did for achtung baby, with all the rarities and remixes and all the good stuffs
I don't think so....They did NOTHING for RatleandHum at 25 and we know how much they hate that one too.
pop was a great tour
Such an under appreciated song. The pain and hurt are real
Man, this blows the album version away in all honesty. I like this version a lot.
Bono is a musical God
We need a pop remaster, deluxe. I hope you all agree. The vinyl is re released next week.
Maybe for the 30th anniversary in 2027.
For me, one of the *biggest* songs of the '90s
Underrated U2 song.
¿Ahora se dan cuenta porque este grupo y este hombre son los mejores del mundo?
No, ya nos dimos cuenta hace más de 30 años
No, desde hace años cuando los escuche por primera vez alla en el 2003 cuando tenia maso 14/15 años.
Genios
POP is one of my personal favs from this genius band! Zooropa is incredible as well.
The both were great récords no doubt
Most underrated song from U2.
how about of god will send his angels?
Great bass Great feel Great song
Cada vez que la oigo pienso lo mismo, ESTO ES UNA P*TA OBRA MAESTRA
Hasta la verga sublime
Greatest Irish band ever ☘️ I'm from Dublin disgusts me the way Irish people don't 💚 Them what a masterpiece, this song is every thing
I love POP even though it's been maligned there are beautiful songs here like this one.
Forgot how good this album was, quite dark and understated, love it
My preference is for the album version, but both are great.
I love Bono’s worn out, thread-like voice in this sad, true, underrated song.
POP. Probably the most underrated U2 album. Unlike 'All that you can't leave behind'.
The Mexico live version out this is outstanding...and the way it runs into Where the streets have no name is just magnificent
where the streets have no name: 1:40
1
Johnnie Rogers. so great observation
And subliminal message at the end 'xes' at the end of the street when the girl picks up the sign the old guy dropped.
A very Disney move that one. They had rude words in the Jungle Book or some other cartoon film.
One of the best music videos too. Anton Corbijn is a freaking god when it comes to U2 and DM music vids.
U2 Please is one of my favorite song from the album Pop!
The live performance of this on mtv was breathtaking
Pure gold. Period
The group of my life...I love you U2 with all my heart❤...Please!!! 🙏
Definitely my favorite groove from "pop", god, it's perfect!, it puts you in motion barely the bass and drums go together and then it gets better
The pop CD is full of mantras. The third time you listen to the songs played like in a different way. It's incredible!
This Lyrically magical and meticulously thought out cut, is one that I always have to go back to when I want to learn about humility...the reality that we talk and act out out own Godliness, (Holiness) is a joke compared to what the reality is of out true beings...we are by nature judgemental, players in an act of self righteous behaviors, and can't even notice the ones right in front of us who need our help and Love. I know that I am being dramatic, but the truth is that this video touches deep in my soul everytime that I watch it. I really gained a lot of respect for Bono and U2 after seeing this video on the 90's - 2000 CD that I use to call
"The Gospel according to U2"
Yah, I think there is some of that in there, but I think it's also about the long going political-religious conflict in Ireland as well. There are certain clues like the line, "Your Catholic blues..."
I was amazed at the potential power of this song.
All your lesson's are history...powerful
Such a painful song, i still remember listening for the first time on 97.
Nothing changes listening on 21, can feel at the same way. I would listen hundreds times and never lose a shiver. It's more than just a great song, it's more and remember that we are just starting again. Just love and pain.
My U2 fav song. With Acrobat, Exit it's big 3 of less known but on of the best U2 songs. Album version is crude, but this and especially live version... masterpiece.
I wouid add dirty day and drowning man
This is a slow rock athem that helped bring about peace in Northern Ireland it healed the troubles what I like about U2 is I look at them as peacemakers even with all the chaos U2 sing for unity and that love will conquer hate in the end. It's doesn't matter what side of what religious allegiance that you align with or don't it's loving your neighbor as yourself
wow, wonderfully dark incredible suspense and tension U2 song. 'Love is not what you're thinking of' ...'november' and hence epic release.
I love U2 !!!
This version is SO much better than the album version, which I didn't really take much notice of when I listened to Pop back in the day. Had this version been on it, it would have likely been my second favorite track on Pop, after Mofo.
One of the best U2 songs ever written.👏🇦🇺
PLEASE 2019!!!!
omg, what an epic song. that tension, I can taste, like an interestingly bitter pill that changes to sweetness
I remember seeing them perfom this live on MTV when I was a kid and it blew me away. I was fortunate to be able to see them a year ago, and they played it live.. They are on another level with this song.
The greatest indictment of religion ever written in one song.
Una obra de arte...
Best U2 song ever!
this video makes me very emotional... the song and video are both so powerful
Tremendous song and video by U2... Outstanding!!
This song it's sooooo good.
Now, this is SONG.
Masterpiece !!!
Love is hard, Love is tough but Love is not what you're thinking of
"Love is not what you're thinking of." Tough, and true no BS rock and roll here. This song strengthens faith even when you crawl. Live, the band puts every ounce of energy into this song climaxing in that solo and Bono cry/yell as Adam and Larry thunder it forward as it ends in a whispering falsetto. Edge's riff just before the "September...." lyric is so perfect and one I enjoyed trying to play on guitar. The remix version is better than the album version. Let's never forget that this song deals with serious and deeply emotional issues of faith, politics, war, brotherhood/sisterhood, justice, and a slap that is a welcome slap in the face during a time when I remember a lot of nonsense in the music industry. The album rocks, and is deep and complicated musically and lyrically. Loved the experimentation with electronics and the risk the band took and I believe opened gates for other artists. It needs a LIVE revival on tour!!!

Thank you, very powerful.
This tells me exactly whose side Bono is on. F.... him
I wanna wish a Happy early 62nd Birthday to U2’s Lead Guitar David Howell Evans The Edge!
5:30
I wish the whole world could hear this song after the events in Orlando yesterday, and just stop fighting... Please.
the best version of this incredible song!
U2 -greatest rock band EVER, and still going - LIVING LEGENDS............
42 years/ 5 decades/ Still going to this day.
This version is sooooo much better than the one that got into the album!!!
The guitar solo is amaizing
Great song.
No fancy shades, no masks, this is U2 stripped down to the bone. All U2 is actually about. Lyrics a little indirect which is great, because with words direct, half of them would be beeped explicits. 20 years of masterminding heaviest metal ever - and suddenly, I found this song to be heavier and more deadly than most of Slayer's work.
rikiradish i was at the pop concert and this was the song that made the night. i hear a lot of u2 fans critisizing this album and how it is not like autung baby or joushau tree or....... but i thank u2 and other bands who do not get stuck in thier box of success and keep putting out music in what they think their fans or others want to hear. U2 has always come accross as a band to me that always put out what they love to listen too first. one of the greatest bands ever!
I think these lyrics have a much deeper meaning then we all think, so don`t judge. Just listen.
please what a music video by u2 !!!!
Most ethereal concert experience ever. Toronto..... felt like I was levitating listening to this.
i have loved u2 since my high school days and the love is forever insatiable
Incredible the way it goes up and the guitar is really amazing, I can hear it over and over again.
Please on the Popmart tour live in Mexico was an absolute belter
I think for the longest time. I didn't appreciate POP. But it has some great tracks. The 90s were a prolific period for U2. Some of their best work came from the 90s.
Excelente solo de guitarra!!!
Great Bass groove.
I love how we were flooded with great U2 singles in '97. It was a hige year in music, maybe the last great one.
masterpiece by U2
