- This video is showing you how to use the Fender Mustang III, IV, & V: 2 and 4 Button f4oot-switch on their own, assign them to different options or to use them together.
The Fender Mustang 4 button footswitch (Part#0080996000)
Alternative Fender 4 button footswitch (Part#0994070000)
I am looking at the options in the Utility Menu on the Fender Mustang III, IV or V guitar amplifiers (V2). These options allow you to change out what the two button or four button footswitch will do when you hit the buttons on it. This makes it handy to choose if you want it to go through the presets, select a specific modulation, delay or overdrive. You can also run the 2 and 4 button foot-switch together at the same time which can offer tap tempo options for modulation or delay.
It's all personal choice, for me, I pick one amp preset and use the buttons to activate each effect. Some people may prefer to use it to go through each amp model preset, it's up to what makes you happy and how you choose to use each pedal and assign it's role.
Here's a Fender Mustang FAQ video I posted recently - • Fender Mustang III & I...

I use both at the same time! Handy piece of gear!! The Mustang 3 V2 sounds legit!!
I have to tell you that you do the best demos of anyone on RUclips.
I bought a Mustang lV v2 two weeks ago while my Twin Reverb 65 reissue is in the shop. I like it. I like all it does but I am really anxious to bring my Twin home Monday. I must thank the fellow doing this video. I have the 4 button foot switch. This little Mustang is a good backup amp especially since it is solid state. Solid state seems to be a bit more durable than the valve but I am very much in electronic love with my Twin. I just love the way she sounds.
Just bought the v4 and this has been a big help, cheers.
I'm glad to see that your back to full health again mate . Blues On....
Thanks for this. I have the same setup and will love having a consistent and sensible button configuration. What a great rig for those of us that cover a ton of styles.
Thanks Shane, this is really helpful. It made things very clear to me. What amazing technology and so easy to apply. These are great amps in my opinion and a super bargain for what you get.
Great review as always Shane. You are correct about the older 4 button switch you have. It is for the G-Dec amps. I had this switch already for my G-Dec 30 which I sold to get a Mustang 3. Wise choice it was too. The switch works the same but the decals are wrong. I highly recommend to anyone with a Mustang 3 to get the 4 button switch and use it along side the 2 button switch. The only thing I miss from the g-dec is the looper with drum beats which would be a great hardware review topic for you Shane.
For the google searchers, does a g-dec 4 button switch work on a mustang 3 III, the answer is yes, albeit with the caveats as mentioned above. Keep up the great reviews & playing Shane.
I just got my Mustang 3 with both pedals in perfect shape for 150 today! Can't wait to start recording with it! Thanks for your instructions on this amp, I'm a horrible reader I'm a visual learner :)
I just picked up the same amp for the same price last weekend. Isn't that strange 🤔. I love it.
@@Scottocaster6668 I paid about $400 USD for mines but I'm in the Caribbean so amps are more expensive here. Don't regret it at all.
@@metalheadblues 👍 At least the resale value will be high in case you decide to sell it. Congratulations!
I like the idea of being able to stomp and move up the presets by ten. That way I can set (perhaps easiest via the Fuze software to move everything where you want it) three "easy to stomp to" tones off of each "group" of 10 to 90 (i.e. stomp to preset 10, down & up for 09 and 11, stomp to 20, down for 19, etc). That leaves me "only" 8 more "stomp groups". Next, I'll use the 2 button for adding or removing effects. Finally, I'll set my Mustang at "00" through 05 or 08 with all the top amps on clean, using manual knobs to set tone, with two button switch for adding effects if needed. With this setup, I've got the perfect gig tool!
That sounds like math to me
😝.
I hate reading manuals, even though Fender went to great lengths to make Mustang's manual "friendly." This is a great help. Thanks!!
I was looking for a 4 button switch for my Mustang 3 v2 and I saw one in our local music store but it was for the newer MGT models, and it's again slightly different than the second one shown at 14:05 as it is from the first v2 4 button switch, and the differences are the same in that they lay in how the switches are labeled. But it works just fine with my amp. I use both pedals as well, but I just use the 2 button for going up/down through the presets and use the 4 button for everything else from tuning to controlling whatever effects I've thrown into the preset I'm using. I like that I can play pretty much anything I will do in a whole night all contained within no more than 3 presets.
Another thing I found great was that as I was figuring out how to edit, use the features and everything with the footswitches, it was like WELL I don't need THAT floor effects pedal, and HEY I don't really need that other either and one by one I eliminated them all as I could, with a little editing, come up with the phase shifter sound I wanted, or the, compression, distortion, chorus, all the pedals I was using no longer needed. Just my two Fender footswitch layout, takes no time to set up, and doesn't take up much space on a small crowded stage lol
I also like that you plug directly into the amp instead of a floor pedal, that eliminates the need for the cord you needed to plug into whatever pedal starts the chain. And that brings up another feature I like about the v2 - you can arrange your effects within your preset in whatever order you choose.
At any rate, I think a Mustang 3 v2 is a great value as opposed to just being a "cheap" amp (I paid $369.99 Cdn for mine) which would make it probably around $270 US or somewhere close to that, which for an amp which has more than enough punch for any gig, with all the versatility and features packed into it, you get a real bang for your buck - you didn't just merely buy an inexpensive amp.
That's why I give Fender a big THUMBS UP on this series of amps.
Very informative Shane. Good work !
Shane, thanks for posting this vid, it got me thinking about replacing the footswitch that cam with my EC Tremolux. I only need one but I like the sturdy case of the units you are using as I want to permanently mount it on my board. I may try a boss FS-6/7 if the mustang type is a no go. Keep up the good work
Finally picked up a III V2 yesterday, and your excellent series of videos demonstrating and explaining this amp were a major factor in my decision. I couldn't be happier with it! I also got it in the limited edition white tolex, which I think matches my cherry ES339 Pro very nicely. It's a very Jack White looking setup. Thank you so much for showing what this amp can do. I had to order the four button foot switch as well as the expression pedal because they didn't have them in store. Expecting them next week.
Now for a question, I don't see an input on the amp for the expression pedal. How do I use it?
Outstanding tutorial I have a Mustang III and didn't have a clue as to what the 2 switch did other then go to the previous or next channel. Looking to but ann effects processor but this amp will suffice when its known how to use it properly. (at least at my level of expertise). Thanks!!
Good info, thanks for the run down.
I just got the mustang 3 today. I really am having fun with preset 50.
re: preset "Angry Rodent" it's a ProCo RAT into a Marshall JCM800, so it was tailor made for 80s hard rock/metal like Judas Priest & Iron Maiden. The preset can be harsh with single coils, so humbuckers are more appropriate, but tweaking will always be necessary for YOUR gear. Frankly, when I first plugged into my Mustang III v2, I was underwhelmed... my heart sank as it had sounded so good in Shane's videos! It sounded very 'meh', but after alot of tweaking, including youtube searching for settings suggestions, I am able to dial in good tones. Though I love Shane's videos and have been a subscriber for a long time, I am actually more of a hard rock, stoner rock, metal player, but the Mustang CAN do all of these. I can easily go from Priest to Metallica to Kyuss to Six Feet Under!
I almost bought one of those 4-button footswitches on craig's list but when I researched it I found a Fender document that says the EXP-1 expression pedal works with only one of them (the one sold with or specifically designed for the Mustang 3 v2).
So if you intend to add the EXP-1 make sure you buy the proper 4-button switch.
I love my v2 Mustang III. It's a great versatility amp
Same! Sounds great and it's very versatile, really love the fact that you can use both footswitches 🤘🤘🤘
Ditto!!!
Really helpful thank you
Good vid, thanks for sharing :)
Shane you got some great videos you do some wonderful reviews I really appreciate it. Pretty soon I'm going to be getting a Mustang for I'd like to know how I can hook up both the two button the four button and an expression pedal at the same time can it be done
The mustang has the most features and sounds.....for a few bucks more you get dozens more sounds and they sound damn good. I been playing for decades and I'm gonna hit a mustang....'WEEEEHAÀAA!!!!!!
Hey man, great video. I have a question, can I use other footswitchs for example two four buttoms footswitchs. Like, can I edit on any footswitch or it has to be the ones on the video? Thanks
THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you!
Hey! Question mate, can you have the 4 button set for tuner and three QA's and the 2 button set as two stomp boxes? Thanks 👍
Thanks for the insight Shane! Just wondering, is there any delay when switching presets?
Also check out the video titled "Fender Mustang foot switches" by Edward Owen. He shows how to use both foot switches together and it is normal, not a hack.
Thanks!
Awesome tutorial. Does this work with the Mustang I V2? It should and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't, but seeing as I don't have it yet, I can't be sure.
Shane, this 4-button footswitch, along with the MGT-4 is offered as an option with the Fender Acoustic 100/200 amps. Can you advise which one is better suited for this amp? "Thanks" in advance.
I'm thinking of getting the 4 this was helpful
is the four button switch usable with the mustang I V2?
if no then please tell me the name of someother footswitch that is compatible with the mustang1 v2
Thanks for this. Just got the 4 button switch today. I have my 3 amp presets locked in. I've set the 4 button switch to 'Normal' like you said near the end of the vid. I can page up and down my 3 amp presets, but the 2 button switch will not add any effects (e.g. 'Stomp/delay) I can get it to work solo, but with the 4 it's doing nothing. What am I doing wrong ?
Do you have a video that shows how to set and save effects on this pedal? I'm new to bass effects etc...
I wish you were showing the bottoms on the far right. I can't tell what is on off over there as you show things. I DO appreciate you having this demo though. Still trying to figure it out. I have the Mustang 4.
Could I use one of these pedals for the mustang 2?
Since the 4 button foots-witch controls the Stomp, Mod, and Delay effects, if used with the 4 button foot-switch,could the 2 button foot-switch be used to control the reverb and tap tempo effects?
Can 2, 4 button switches be daisy chained together, also can the exp 1 be used in this set up cheers
When using the 4 button and 2 button together, can you switch modes on the 4 button and the two button also switches functionality? Or is the 2 button set on its mode through the internal menu and then only the 4 button can switch modes?
Thanks for the video, man. Due to I'm not a native english listener I'm still having one principal doubt about the 4 buttons switchfoot, and I want to resolve it because I'm considering buying it, so I hope you have a little time to help me. Basically I understand that you can set up 3 effects in each 3 buttons (lets say I choose button 1-Distortion, button 2-Clean and button 3-Tremolo). Here's my doubt: Is it possible to after using that set up quickly change it to another where the effects are others (for example: 1-Chorus, 2-Flanger 3-Phaser)? I need that function for live giging! I hope I express myself clear. Thanks a lot once again!
Was wondering I have a mustang III v.2, I'm using the 4 button footswitch. And in the utilities there is no 4 button switch so I can't lock the footswitch to mode 3.
hey.. the boss gt10 can be used as a foot controller for the mustang iv v2 without amp gizmo or similar?
do you know if the 2 button footswitch pedal will work with te mustan II V.2???
trying play fender 3 w/ RC 50 loop station and having a tough time trying to record difference mode or even hearing them.
I recently purchased a Mustang V which has the 4 button foot switch, I was looking at several options and as you know there are plethora of options with the mustang amps, I had purchased a small Mustang amp a year ago and it wasn't until I got the V that I discovered I could also control it with the Fender software. My question is have you connected the Fender volume/WAH peddle with your Mustang? I was wondering how it might connect and inter-operate with the 4 button and or 2 button control? I will look for your download from the Fender site, I loved the sound.
I can’t program the 4 button pedal
Can you pleeeeease do a demo of the 4 button footswitch with the fender 100 acoustic amp I'm having lots of trouble
Hi. very nice review, i need you coment, fender champion 100 or fender mustang iii v2, Which is better quality? thxs.. :D
So i accidently replaced a "prefixed" sound/style with another one... so now i have 2 of the same type in the 100 spaces... How do i find the old one and put it where it should be?
I want to have more than 3 presets that I can select. Any way around this??
for the mustang gt, can these 2 pedals be used? Or just the 4 button one?
I bought 4 switch ped and a mustang 4 v2 amp I don't know how to use the lip effect can somebody help me on how to set it up
I have the two button one can it be used with other amps besides fenders
Maybe Im doing something wrong with my III v.2 with 2.2 software. I m trying to control the speed of the vibrotone as in this video. I have both the 2 and 4 button ft. switch. When using the 2 button switch by itself even the left button "Down/A" turns the mod effect on/off, but the "UP/B" button does the same thing... in the Util section I have the 2 button sw. set at Mod/Tap. Am I missing something? Thanks! Ed
can i use those fs for the mustang 1?
can you use tap with the switch on the 4 switch pedal?
can you program both pedals to be quick assess to presets??? That's what I need. I wish they would just put a midi in jack so I can use my midi pedal..
I need the same :(
I just want the 4 channel one to display the channel i am on...it does that right..?
Hi, where can I buy a four button foot switch in Australia?
Can u explain me how I can save on the first button for example number 00 and on the second button number 13 and on the third button number 24?
THIS amp does so many great things.. mine did good UNTIL....the speaker started buzzing....going bad....I hard wired a 2 12 cab to it....sounds WAY BETTER.... AND I am STILL learning about all it can do......yes....much love...Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO
Could i just run a midi foot controller with a Fender Mustang Amp , which models ?
So, if you've assigned effects to the stomp/mod locations of a preset, are the effects already on when you switch to that preset or are they off until you switch them on with the footswitch? (This is how I hope it is, instead of the effect already being on when you recall the preset)
Both! It saves that you have that effect&setting of that effect for your preset as well as whether or not its on when you saved it. So if you want to be able to use it when you're in that preset but not have it on just save it with the effect off, then press the pedal to turn it on.(and like wise if you save it with the effect on it will be on when you select that preset)
First, Thank you for this. Very helpful. I have just one question, Can you directly connect it to PA and not mic it??? From the FX send???
There are stereo xlr direct outs on the back of the amp
I need a more beginner than this. There is A LOT OF PREVIOUS UNDERSTANDING to even get a glimpse of what you are doing. I thought this was a intro/beginner VID about these pedals. Instead it is a "now that you have mad this amp and pedals for a year I will show you how I have mine setup" VID. I will look around for something more basic.
Hello, I've a question for You, I think a simple question. I've mgt4 works on a Rumble 40 studio (the same ampli for bass I presume..) In which way I can select/unselect an effect in order to play with the ampli with or withous a certain effect? For example, suppose I need to use delay preset just in some part of a song: In which way i can switch on/off a preset in order to have clean ampli or ampli+effect ? I hope to be clear :) Thanks a lot.
Can you configure either or both of the footswitches where you can use an overdrive/stomp box and a compressor?
Sadly, no. This is one limitation. There's only one button that controls the stomp box in terms of overdrive. The other is always modulation and delay etc.
Does the MTG-4 workon the Rumble Lt 25?
Could you change the presets instead of it being stomp mod and delay
can you connect a pedal board to the mustang v
Will this work for my fender mustang gt40?
+intheblues hey can you give me a tab or post a video on how to play that riff that you always play! I really like that riff and I want to start to become a blues player and I just want to learn how to play it
I'm pretty new to electric guitar (I've played acoustic for a couple years) Im looking to get a pedal that can playback and also switch between distortion and clean. Im unsure if theres even such thing but if anyone could help me out it would be wonderful thanks.
Dude switching between clean and distortion is what every foot switch does at the minimum, recording a sample and looping it is usually a separate pedal but a few amps have it built in, I have found that having a drum machine is the single most useful tool as opposed to a looper, but both are cool. You can get a phone to play back thru your amp and accompany your badass self....you dig man? Keep playin
Great amp but I have read some things about the support of the Fender Fuse software that it is no longer supported by Fender?? Is that true? Fender Fuse stops working on a Windows 10 computer?
It works just no new fender content or support
Hi. Mustang I v2 works with footswitch 2xbuttons or 4xbuttons ??? Can somebody confirm this please...
Beacuse 1xbutton footshwitch limits the possibilities of combination :/
Do the Footswitches work with the Mustang 1 too? The 2 and 4 button ones I mean
Yes any mustang
Will it work for mustang 2?
can the 2 button fswitch use on mustang 1?
I am wondering that as well
can you switch clean/ distorsion just using the 2 button pedal ?
Yes and you will have one button open
How to connect a expression pedal?
Will this work on a Mustang LT-25?
What setting to use two paddles
Does it work on the lt25
11:30 Why 2 delay buttons? Can't you change one to something else?
how to use by pass?
Does it work on a Mustang GT100?
Can you set up the two-button for switching presets, and the four-button for Stomp/Mod/Delay?
Does the footswitch work on a mustang II ?
Sorry, but I heard it does not.
Hi I’ve only got the 2 button switch and I’m trying to use it to bypass the reverb in a preset but when I press the right button it does that but the save button stays on obviously doing something wrong
Regards Dave
You set it up for reverb on the util menu?
Does someone knows if the MGT 4 footswitch is compatible with my mustang IV? I know the IV uses the ms4. both FS looks identical.
I use a mgt 4 a 2 button switch and an exp 1 with my iv v2 and it works ok,hope this helps
I got a Mustang GT40... it's a beautiful amp but it no work with the MS2 :(
Would it work with the 4 button one?
Thank Bro, Have two M Fender apps the 4-Button Foot Switch Will Work ! ,Just found your site ,subscribed I`m # 57,627 ) i`ll tell about your SITE ! You're Living The Dream ([]:-}))))
After watching your video still don’t know how to program the 4 pedal switch
Will this work with the mustang 2?
+Dan Miley no but if you want to you can build this to change between presets www.strat-talk.com/threads/diy-switch-for-fender-mustang-ii.119168/
It works for the gdec 3 amp too?
I think it’s the same foot switch from memory but best to double check on the fender website.
@@intheblues please answer more questions from your viewers.
Does the tap tempo function work on the footswitch
I have one difficult
