I just purchased a Fender Mustang IV amplifier and am absolutely blown away by the versatility and tone on the amp. I LOVE this amp! It can sit well with any "tube" amp in any room. Tube purist not apply. Fender did it rite with the Mustang series of amps. FENDER MUSTANG KICKS SERIOUS @$$!!!!!!!
I bought a Mustang III in the spring....I use it for home rehearsal and Band practices. We practice a a pretty decent volume, Full PA and all. I was surprised on the power the amp had for being solid state, and the tone is very comfortable and feels very good. The is not Mushy like some of the other modeling amps, it is now the backup for my main rig. I love it.
I've owned a twin reverb, an AC30, and a Princeton. The clean channels on the Mustang are pretty comparable. Truly hate to say that, but it's true. This amplifier is perfect for a rhythm guitarist, I wouldn't recommend it for lead work. Good weight, easy to haul around, and great price. Best place to buy these are on guitar center's used gear page. Don't buy them new, they tack on extra cash and try to get you to get insurance on it. Hope this review has been helpful, everybody have a great day
this is the best amp if you wanna play it all, just played it at route 60 music store and im in love with it, its so warm and i hate solid states but this does it all, full 5 stars i love it!
I bought the Mustang III from my local music store. I am very impressed with it. Great sound and patches. Am going to use the clean and crunch settings for playing country and rockabilly.
Just bought The IV over the weekend...absolutely the best amp I'v ever played thru and honestly..better than my big Twin Deville...this Mustang does it all in spades.
Got my mustang 3 coming later this month! :D Can't wait, I tried out the 2 in my local Guitar shop and was very pleased with how it sounded. If you're thinking of getting one of these go and do it. They are amazing value for money.
I will mention one other cool thing..The Mustang Floor board might be the best direct to PA simulator I have heard yet. A customer came in looking for a backup emergency rig, but he wanted to hear it direct through a PA as he would use it live and all I can say is WOW, that thing really sounded and felt great ultra articulate, simple, but well though out!
I just bought one of these and I feel intimidated as crap from it, seeing how many options and possibilities this thing offers. Hope to gradually understand how to use this beast. But if you ask me, one hell of a bargain, for everything you get on one single amplifier.
It is a pretty smooth taper when you turn up the volume. It does not seem to jump at all. IT sounds great at a low volume!! (I own one! I use it at home and at band practice and is my backup amp for gigs) The clean question is tough....because it depends on the output of your pickups. I have Duncan Custom Customs (medium output) and I don't have that issue, but when I play clean I use a lighter touch. It does stay clean pretty loudly for what it is.
It is not but it really feels good. I have one and it is very comfortable to play, even at higher volumes. Not saying it replicates a tube amp, but of all the modeling amps I have tried, this one is the best.
@jdminor7b5 It can be done for sure with the two button foot switch...it is an assignable function in the amp utility menu. I am pretty sure you can use both two and four button foot switches at the same time to really increase the foot switching possibilities
SAME!! Except like a week later. Anyway I'm getting a used III because it's cheaper but this is going to be a huge step up from my 38 watt fender practice amp. I'm really pumped
EXCELLENT you reviewed something i have but 5 or V version 412 used about 2 hours total getting ready to buy the TM Super reverb based on your video luv your videos my friend
Killer amp. I now want a Fender amp. Would the Mustang III be good for small gigs? And does it also still have the model pre-sets and the same ones? The last riff reminded me of Killswitch Engage their song My Curse.
You can technically use any processor with this unit, or any unit for that matter. The nice thing about the Fender is that it has all the processing power built right into it.
Fine amp, it would be much better if fender would give a very comprehensive dvd, manual or video post on the use of their products. Line 6 has the same issue. Unless your really familiar with this equipment your lucky to use 50% of its capacity. This equipment can become frustrating because they don't provide good manuals. My line 6 spider jam with a 13 button foot switch and pedal has been collecting dust for 2 years because they provide nothing on operating the pedal and minimal instructions for the amp. My fender mustang V gets use but fender did not provide comprehensive manuals so you can truly understand the equipment. There's nothing to instruct the capacity of the 4 button foot switch. Fine equipment fender but hire someone who knows how to write a manual so the novice or beginner can use your equipment.
The Mustang III is a single 12" speaker 100 watts Mono Power amp. The Mustang IV is 2 x12" with a 150 watt stereo power amp. The IV is a little beefier tone because of the 2-12" speakers and a bit more headroom, all the presets are the same.
did you sort out your problem. because im thinking of buying one of these. But i want to use my nova system in front of it. its so much cheaper than getting a valve amp. but wouldn't be any good to me if you cant put effects in front of it and use a clean chanel or by-pass.
I have one of those Amps and I didn't know I can tone my guitar, I'm still trying to set my foot switch to the sound I like. thanks for showing me my tuner.
I like what you did show, and the demos were good. What you did not cover, which I am guessing is important to any potential buyer, are: Effects Loop, Footswitches, AUX in, Headphone out, USB connection to work with the Fender software to tweak all the settings on the amp and PRICE. These are a steal at their current price.
@presatito It actually is PERFECT for the house. I was actually going to but one for myself for practicing because my rig is usually in the band truck. It is portable and could even handle a band rehearsal if tilted up towards your ear.
@32mhalilz It depends on the processor. If it is something that has distortion or a preamp in it then I would put it in front....If it is strictly effects, then use the loop.
Amen to that bro. I couldn't afford anything back in the 90's. 2000.00 to 3000.00 to get something only decent!. Impossible for me back then. Now with 600.00 you get a really good amp and 200.00 for an Epiphone Les Paul guitar. Now I wish I was 10 years younger. :(
Let me say I just bought the Mustang IV for 499 minus 20% from an internet coupon I had the Mustang IV is AWESOME!! I have been a blues guitarist for 20+ years and a former friend of SRV's I use a 1971 Dunlop Crybaby Wah Wah and a vintage TS9 tube screamer along with one of the presets I wont tell you which one, I get Stevie's tone....not his sound, that came from his fingers via his soul but the tone I can get recording tracks with the included software is awesome this amp rocks I rate it a A
Hi great sounds but I am looking for a 1960s reverb echo sound similar to he Shadows Hank Marvin sound.with the Fender Fuse software is it possible to get this sound? Thankyou
See I have the exact opposite opinion. I get an awesome Gain sound....I have it really dialed in...big beefy tone...but my clean sound is just not anywhere near as solid as my old Mesa Boogie Tube
@GuitarZile no it has a memory and you can save the presets, and then if for instance one day you decide to alter the gain while you are playing and decide you prefer the sound that way you just click save and it will create the same sound next time you select it, you can also reset all the presets to factory setting if you change the and then decide you want to start again. well worth the money !
Posted 12/Nov/12: I am interested in the Mustang 111 smaller amp. @lukekkv You really don't need the Boss ME25 the amp has everything and it comes with a 2 button footswitch to go up and down the preset's. There is a optional 4 button footswitch available.
I had a Cyber Twin that I traded for a Fender Deluxe tube amp and now I wish I hadn't done it. To me, solid state amps are better. You don't have all that noise plus you have all those effects AND they're cheaper. SS amps are becoming the norm for guitarists and they sound just as good or better than a tube amp..Thanks for this review. I been playing 47 years so I'm not a kid thats just learning.
@NstuffMusic Thanks, so you mean that the mustang IV has better value for money? The Vox is 120 watt mono, I think, and the mustang IV is a 150 watt stereo. Because the IV is on a holiday sale, I can get it for 360 euros (normally it is 470), and the vox vt 80+ is 350 euros, so the price difference is neglectable. But mustang has FX Loop and the Vox doesn't. Is that important? Don't know what it does. Also, mustang has one channel and vox has 8. Is being mono or stereo important?
Hi. I am thinking about buying Fender Mustang amp, but I'm torn between IV and V + 412 cab - which one is better for occasional smaller gigs and jam sessions? Also how safe is the nstuffmusic site for buying things? I have bought my guitar in thomann online music shop and was very positively impressed by their good services and safeness of buying there - is that also the case with nstuffmusic shop or do I risk getting scammed if I buy stuff there? Oh and is the shipping free in Europe as well?
@SundanceHAJ It's more than you need for home but the nice thing about solid state amps is that they play at lower volumes well. The Mustang 4 will sound fuller because of the 2 12" speakers.
you already responded once about useing a mustang 3 over a mustang 2 to play over the drummer. but you didnt mention the mustang 4. Would you thin the mustang 3 or 4 would be better for fairly sized house parties and possible backyard parties
@Trakstar84 nstuff is right on, even though I bought the 40 watt Vox, the Mustang is WAY better sounding than the Marshall MG. I just played both again today. If you want ONLY a Marshall sound, the MG may be the choice, if you wqant great tones, go for the Mustang. I am looking at the 150 watt Mustang because the 120watt Vox does not have the effects loop.
I just bought the 5 the 150 head and I love it has more sounds and patch's than I would ever use. I play my Gibson Les Paul threw it and I have to And the price of these things are awesome only 300.00 for the 150 watt head I got . Great price great head for that little of money.
I've got the IV V2 and it has plenty of presets. Way more than I will ever use. I had a Fender Cyber Twin before this and this Mustang IV just blows it away. I will keep this amp until I can't play any more I guess.
DMW1949 I own a CyberTwin since it came out, and I have programmed plenty of awsome sounds, as in the years I had all the main tube amps in my studio, so I was able to compare the emulated sounds with the real thing (I have toured and recorded for years with tube Marshalls and , so I know very well what they sound like). A few months ago I bought a more portable Mustang III, and I find it incredibly versatile for its price tag. I still find the Cybertwin fuller and more "Tubey" (at least my own patches, which took me years to fine tune; maybe in a year or so I will reach the same results on the Mustang). Maybe it'only the twin speaker configuration moving more air (and the stereo effect). I am considering trying a Mustang IV... (My tube Twin Reissue is King, but it's getting harder and harder to carry it around)
I have a mustang and I went online to the fender fuse community and downloaded some band sounds like ac/dc u2 boston queen, and yea sounds damn convincing.
do you thin the mustang three would be loud enough to play at a house party in a medium sized house to cover mabye 2 or 3 fairly sized rooms. and cut through a fairly loud drummer. i play light to heavy rock and a little metal. should i go for the mustang 3 or the mustang 4. im tight on money so i am hoping mustang 3 will work
Ah, did you try this amp to hook up with multi effect pedal? I'm just planning to buy this one next week and I have a multi effects pedal. I need an advice.
Sooooo I have a serious question about effect pedals. I have a pedal board with 8 (will be more as time goes on) pedals on it, I was wondering how this amp reacts to pedals being put on the front end of it. Excuse the "soooo" it's a bad habit I picked up from my friend. But I like it.
At 4:04 you sure changed the #23 pretty fast with that "fizz" noise ???? I just ordered one and I hope when it comes in the mail that they have fixed this with later production line. I have read that Feb 11 models still had this problem.
@NstuffMusic I appreciate the offer, but I already bought a Fender Mustang III, by the way, the best amp I've ever had. Here's the problem, whenever I try to download the Fender fuse online, a new tab pops up saying "Untitled". Can you explain why it won't let me download the program? Thank you!
Hey man, I have a question. I have a Line6 spider IV 75 watts amp and i would like to know if this mustang IV have better sound than the Line6. I would like to upgrade my amp but im not sure what to buy and i dont want to buy a tube amp. Do you have any sugestions ? Great demo by the way :)
@TopDogX64 There will not be that big of a volume difference but the IV will sound fuller because of the bigger power amp and extra speaker. Both are loud enough for gig's.
Oh ya!!
You bet!
+G Murphy Does the master volume reset to full when you change presets?
There is a slight change in volume as u change presets. You would have to edit the volume to change that.
@@gboof No....The Master Volume is independent from the presets

probably the best budget amp on the market
I just bought one in the spring. I think it "feels" and sounds a lot more realistic to me. I like the effects and the interface to do the editing.
Excellent demo!! Thanks. I've got my eye on a Mustang II, BUT this has got me wanting a Mustang III now. Awesome amps!!!
got this amp 8 months ago. AMAZING!!!!
You sold me!! I am now thinking about the 4 because of the stereo. Thanks!

Thank you!
Do you think the mustang 5 would be too loud for using in an attic with a band?
Hey man, I have a question. I have a Line6 spider IV 75 watts amp and i would like to know if this mustang IV have better sound than the Line6. I would like to upgrade my amp but im not sure what to buy and i dont want to buy a tube amp.
Do you have any sugestions ?
Great demo by the way :)
@TopDogX64 There will not be that big of a volume difference but the IV will sound fuller because of the bigger power amp and extra speaker. Both are loud enough for gig's.
@JDizzy6606 It's a modeling amp so it has all kinds of gain settings from blues to metal.
great lesson, thanks buddy
@twist6466 No you can not disable the knobs.
@DrugsOfPeace Yes it's a 150 watts.
@wretcheddog The IV has a extra 5o watts and a extra 12" speaker.
i got to ask, im loving the amp so far. but is it good for metal like Killswitch Engage or Lamb of God?
Can you save the fender fuse sounds into one of the amp presets and not have to play through the computer?
I found alot of info about this AMPs, they really rock! Only Positive Comments for Mustang! :D
Highest ratings :) I hope i buy one :) Thanks!
