I just purchased a Fender Mustang IV amplifier and am absolutely blown away by the versatility and tone on the amp. I LOVE this amp! It can sit well with any "tube" amp in any room. Tube purist not apply. Fender did it rite with the Mustang series of amps. FENDER MUSTANG KICKS SERIOUS @$$!!!!!!!
Oh ya!!
You bet!
+G Murphy Does the master volume reset to full when you change presets?
There is a slight change in volume as u change presets. You would have to edit the volume to change that.
@@gboof No....The Master Volume is independent from the presets
I've owned a twin reverb, an AC30, and a Princeton. The clean channels on the Mustang are pretty comparable. Truly hate to say that, but it's true. This amplifier is perfect for a rhythm guitarist, I wouldn't recommend it for lead work. Good weight, easy to haul around, and great price. Best place to buy these are on guitar center's used gear page. Don't buy them new, they tack on extra cash and try to get you to get insurance on it. Hope this review has been helpful, everybody have a great day
Why do leads not work?
@@jaycrall69 I would also like to know haha
I bought a Mustang III in the spring....I use it for home rehearsal and Band practices. We practice a a pretty decent volume, Full PA and all.
I was surprised on the power the amp had for being solid state, and the tone is very comfortable and feels very good. The is not Mushy like some of the other modeling amps, it is now the backup for my main rig. I love it.
probably the best budget amp on the market
Just bought The IV over the weekend...absolutely the best amp I'v ever played thru and honestly..better than my big Twin Deville...this Mustang does it all in spades.
this is the best amp if you wanna play it all, just played it at route 60 music store and im in love with it, its so warm and i hate solid states but this does it all, full 5 stars i love it!
got this amp 8 months ago. AMAZING!!!!
I bought the Mustang III from my local music store. I am very impressed with it. Great sound and patches. Am going to use the clean and crunch settings for playing country and rockabilly.
I just bought one in the spring. I think it "feels" and sounds a lot more realistic to me. I like the effects and the interface to do the editing.
I just bought one of these and I feel intimidated as crap from it, seeing how many options and possibilities this thing offers. Hope to gradually understand how to use this beast. But if you ask me, one hell of a bargain, for everything you get on one single amplifier.
It is not but it really feels good. I have one and it is very comfortable to play, even at higher volumes. Not saying it replicates a tube amp, but of all the modeling amps I have tried, this one is the best.
I will mention one other cool thing..The Mustang Floor board might be the best direct to PA simulator I have heard yet. A customer came in looking for a backup emergency rig, but he wanted to hear it direct through a PA as he would use it live and all I can say is WOW, that thing really sounded and felt great ultra articulate, simple, but well though out!
Excellent demo!! Thanks. I've got my eye on a Mustang II, BUT this has got me wanting a Mustang III now. Awesome amps!!!
Fine amp, it would be much better if fender would give a very comprehensive dvd, manual or video post on the use of their products. Line 6 has the same issue. Unless your really familiar with this equipment your lucky to use 50% of its capacity. This equipment can become frustrating because they don't provide good manuals. My line 6 spider jam with a 13 button foot switch and pedal has been collecting dust for 2 years because they provide nothing on operating the pedal and minimal instructions for the amp.
My fender mustang V gets use but fender did not provide comprehensive manuals so you can truly understand the equipment. There's nothing to instruct the capacity of the 4 button foot switch. Fine equipment fender but hire someone who knows how to write a manual so the novice or beginner can use your equipment.
MyJimjack This might help you www2.fender.com/support/articles/?category=fender-mustang-v-2-amplifier-series
MyJimjack Mustang is much easier to control than the Line 6. It took a year or so to learn all of it though
instablaster
You sold me!! I am now thinking about the 4 because of the stereo. Thanks!
very good demo with nice playing and tones
Got my mustang 3 coming later this month! :D Can't wait, I tried out the 2 in my local Guitar shop and was very pleased with how it sounded. If you're thinking of getting one of these go and do it. They are amazing value for money.
Hopefully getting the 2x12 for Christmas. Fingers crossed!
@jdminor7b5 It can be done for sure with the two button foot switch...it is an assignable function in the amp utility menu. I am pretty sure you can use both two and four button foot switches at the same time to really increase the foot switching possibilities
Love my mustang IV.
The Mustang III would even work for the stage.
@imSkyDylan The Mustang IV has a extra 12" speaker and a extra 50 watts.
You can only go to the Quick presets...But if add another Fender foot switch you can access banks as well.
It is a pretty smooth taper when you turn up the volume. It does not seem to jump at all.
IT sounds great at a low volume!! (I own one! I use it at home and at band practice and is my backup amp for gigs)
The clean question is tough....because it depends on the output of your pickups. I have Duncan Custom Customs (medium output) and I don't have that issue, but when I play clean I use a lighter touch. It does stay clean pretty loudly for what it is.
Amen to that bro. I couldn't afford anything back in the 90's. 2000.00 to 3000.00 to get something only decent!. Impossible for me back then. Now with 600.00 you get a really good amp and 200.00 for an Epiphone Les Paul guitar. Now I wish I was 10 years younger. :(
You can play anything on these Mustang amps that's what makes them so great! Plenty of gain to get the metal tones.
@GuitarZile no it has a memory and you can save the presets, and then if for instance one day you decide to alter the gain while you are playing and decide you prefer the sound that way you just click save and it will create the same sound next time you select it, you can also reset all the presets to factory setting if you change the and then decide you want to start again. well worth the money !
Yes get this amp Im in a Hardcore band and I have this amp and sweet christ it can do anything, 100% get this amp!
@presatito It actually is PERFECT for the house. I was actually going to but one for myself for practicing because my rig is usually in the band truck. It is portable and could even handle a band rehearsal if tilted up towards your ear.
@TomHopkins24 Yes if you have it hooked up to your computer with a USB cable.
The Mustang III is a single 12" speaker 100 watts Mono Power amp. The Mustang IV is 2 x12" with a 150 watt stereo power amp.
The IV is a little beefier tone because of the 2-12" speakers and a bit more headroom, all the presets are the same.
Excellent review mate and I am getting this amp on Saturday, thanks for posting
SAME!! Except like a week later. Anyway I'm getting a used III because it's cheaper but this is going to be a huge step up from my 38 watt fender practice amp. I'm really pumped
I have one of those Amps and I didn't know I can tone my guitar, I'm still trying to set my foot switch to the sound I like. thanks for showing me my tuner.
You know what is funny about those amps? they come with a manual where they tell you about it..
@@TheShiftingSounds But if you don't have a manual, how are you supposed to know it comes with a manual ?
I think I'm sold on this.
if you put it on 23 and play the final countdown it sounds awsome
We will be....That is an amazing pedal board. One of the best direct to PA units I have ever heard.
You can technically use any processor with this unit, or any unit for that matter. The nice thing about the Fender is that it has all the processing power built right into it.
EXCELLENT you reviewed something i have but 5 or V version 412 used about 2 hours total getting ready to buy the TM Super reverb based on your video luv your videos my friend
@Trakstar84 nstuff is right on, even though I bought the 40 watt Vox, the Mustang is WAY better sounding than the Marshall MG. I just played both again today.
If you want ONLY a Marshall sound, the MG may be the choice, if you wqant great tones, go for the Mustang.
I am looking at the 150 watt Mustang because the 120watt Vox does not have the effects loop.
You've convinced me to buy this amp. I was eyeing it but now I will buy it.
@NstuffMusic
Totally agree .... it lets you do a fair bit right on the amp .. but when you use fender fuse .. it FOR SURE gives more flex and control
did they cut out every time he says um lol
Overall Colorado he could be on CNN with all the “uh”’s.
@32mhalilz It depends on the processor. If it is something that has distortion or a preamp in it then I would put it in front....If it is strictly effects, then use the loop.
thanks. I will get the mustang speakers cabinet to add to my mustang 4. I will get a full sound.
Absolutely awesome amp!***** Wicked inexpensive, extremely portable and totally fun to play :-) First "solid-state/Digital modeling" amp I've been satisfied enough with to own. If you're looking for an amazing value with "quality," without a doubt, try this amp. Fender certainly delivered the goods with this one!!!
Let me say I just bought the Mustang IV for 499 minus 20% from an internet coupon I had the Mustang IV is AWESOME!! I have been a blues guitarist for 20+ years and a former friend of SRV's I use a 1971 Dunlop Crybaby Wah Wah and a vintage TS9 tube screamer along with one of the presets I wont tell you which one, I get Stevie's tone....not his sound, that came from his fingers via his soul but the tone I can get recording tracks with the included software is awesome this amp rocks I rate it a A
Hi great sounds but I am looking for a 1960s reverb echo sound similar to he Shadows Hank Marvin sound.with the Fender Fuse software is it possible to get this sound?
Thankyou
Sure is
I like what you did show, and the demos were good. What you did not cover, which I am guessing is important to any potential buyer, are: Effects Loop, Footswitches, AUX in, Headphone out, USB connection to work with the Fender software to tweak all the settings on the amp and PRICE. These are a steal at their current price.
the future of solid state amps
@lockpicker2k Te tuner button also shows the tempo of a delay or speed of a modulation effect
@TopDogX64 There will not be that big of a volume difference but the IV will sound fuller because of the bigger power amp and extra speaker. Both are loud enough for gig's.
I DON`T KNOW at the beginning! great!
@JDizzy6606 It's a modeling amp so it has all kinds of gain settings from blues to metal.
@SundanceHAJ It's more than you need for home but the nice thing about solid state amps is that they play at lower volumes well. The Mustang 4 will sound fuller because of the 2 12" speakers.
I am not sure what you mean...But it accepts external distortions very well
I bought the IV v2 new off ebay. It arrived perfect in the box about two weeks ago. I bought this as a backup for my Twin Reverb that was less than a year old when I had to put it in the shop. $160.00 for tube repair not in warranty. I pick it up Monday. The main reason I bought the IV v2 is because it is solid state. As far as I'm concerned for sound the Twin is way better, but the Twin broke down way to soon. On 9 April 2015 the Twin was 1 year old from purchase date. I bought it from Guitar Center new demo out of box. It was never taken out of my basement from day 1. I have never played it higher than 4 volume and just once for about 12 seconds. Otherwise I usually play through it on 2 volume. I usually played through it twice a week for about 1 1/2 hours, the rest of the time I play on a little Fender Frontman with headphones. I'm hoping because the lV is solid state it will last longer before repair, but it can't match my Twin not even close.
I had a Cyber Twin that I traded for a Fender Deluxe tube amp and now I wish I hadn't done it. To me, solid state amps are better. You don't have all that noise plus you have all those effects AND they're cheaper. SS amps are becoming the norm for guitarists and they sound just as good or better than a tube amp..Thanks for this review. I been playing 47 years so I'm not a kid thats just learning.
I have a mustang and I went online to the fender fuse community and downloaded some band sounds like ac/dc u2 boston queen, and yea sounds damn convincing.
@feewert42 The Sample amps are tube amps which are more expensive because of the design and the cost to manufacture them compared to a solid state amp.
@wretcheddog The IV has a extra 5o watts and a extra 12" speaker.
I fucking loveeeee this amp!!! Im getting it once my American Standard Tele Arrives!!!! Cant wait!!!
I like the Juicy Clean and Champ preset sounds. Not sure about the others. I always buy tube amps just to be sure.
Gain sounds stale. Cleans sound superb. Its a fender alright.
See I have the exact opposite opinion. I get an awesome Gain sound....I have it really dialed in...big beefy tone...but my clean sound is just not anywhere near as solid as my old Mesa Boogie Tube
The IV is stereo. Like the head
Thanks, love the difference in the sounds.
I just bought the 5 the 150 head and I love it has more sounds and patch's than I would ever use. I play my Gibson Les Paul threw it and I have to And the price of these things are awesome only 300.00 for the 150 watt head I got . Great price great head for that little of money.
@surpluscow Both would work the Mustang 4 would sound fuller because of the extra 50 watts and extra 12" speaker.
@lostingravy At lower volumes it will be fine, even at moderate volumes it will surprise you! It's great with headphones.
@Luca1369Brasi Excellent choice!!! You will be happy with it!
OMG NstuffMusic with distorcion! thanks!!
@GuitarZile You can "unlock" the presets and save up to 100 of your own custom patches! Very very cool.
i just got the mustang iv v2 150w version. i don't know if i can do so safely, so I'm afraid to try it, but is it okay for me to use this combo amp as my attack head? i would be attaching it to an engl 412 240w thank you for the help of possible. i look in the back panel of the fender, and it doesn't mention specifically (like the Line6 spider combos do) speaker cable input... i.e 8/16 ohm
I found alot of info about this AMPs, they really rock! Only Positive Comments for Mustang! :D
Highest ratings :) I hope i buy one :) Thanks!
I've got the IV V2 and it has plenty of presets. Way more than I will ever use. I had a Fender Cyber Twin before this and this Mustang IV just blows it away. I will keep this amp until I can't play any more I guess.
DMW1949 I own a CyberTwin since it came out, and I have programmed plenty of awsome sounds, as in the years I had all the main tube amps in my studio, so I was able to compare the emulated sounds with the real thing (I have toured and recorded for years with tube Marshalls and , so I know very well what they sound like).
A few months ago I bought a more portable Mustang III, and I find it incredibly versatile for its price tag. I still find the Cybertwin fuller and more "Tubey" (at least my own patches, which took me years to fine tune; maybe in a year or so I will reach the same results on the Mustang).
Maybe it'only the twin speaker configuration moving more air (and the stereo effect).
I am considering trying a Mustang IV... (My tube Twin Reissue is King, but it's getting harder and harder to carry it around)
@lgwilhite That's the beauty of solid state amps the sound great at any volume.
@lukekkv You really don't need the Boss ME25 the amp has everything and it comes with a 2 button footswitch to go up and down the preset's. There is a optional 4 button footswitch available.
@32mhalilz It does take pedals well but you really won't need it....The amps rocks with all the built in effects as well!.
great lesson, thanks buddy
@twist6466 No you can not disable the knobs.
@DuoSkye You will be very happy with it!
I got a peavey bandit 112 instead, but thanks for your anwer!
Killer amp. I now want a Fender amp. Would the Mustang III be good for small gigs? And does it also still have the model pre-sets and the same ones? The last riff reminded me of Killswitch Engage their song My Curse.
Excellent Demo! Thanks for posting!!
@NstuffMusic Thanks!
@TopDogX64
i got me a mustang 3 and played a gig last week in front of 400 people.
damn that combo is loud enough to blow up the place you play.
@theillsofmodernman12 Yes it has alot of gain and EQ control.
did you sort out your problem. because im thinking of buying one of these. But i want to use my nova system in front of it. its so much cheaper than getting a valve amp. but wouldn't be any good to me if you cant put effects in front of it and use a clean chanel or by-pass.
Does the mustang have its own sound can i play it as the amp instead of choosing one of the models ? thanks
Yes.........hold down the save button when powering on
You can get a good tone If you Learn everything about the Amp you need to know.If you Hit the Amp button,Then push down on the Black round knob It will take you through Each parameter. There is even a page 2 On each Amp where you can Change the amp cabinets for different sounds. But if you really want to try your pedals.Run them through The effects loop In the back of the amp.Only your Modulation effects, Chorus, delay,Phase.Try It on a clean Amp.Add Distortion As normal.Loop Effects.Try It.
@musicman243 Yes. $259.99 at nstuffmusic with coupon code.
@NstuffMusic
Yup .. just turn off memory lock in the utilities
I have bought the same amp (v2) in europe but it seems to miss some of the presets shown in the video. Any comments from someone having experience with this amplifier? Thanks for your answer.
The v2 is a optimized version of the v1 shown in this video. So maybe they changed the name of some presets. The v2 design is a bit different with the white stripes and classic tolex. Also the v2 has more stompboxes and eliminates the Brrr... like sound of the v1.
@DrugsOfPeace Yes it's a 150 watts.
@feewert42 No it's not a cheap amp and we have not had any problems. Fender put out a great amp at a price point to be competitive with Line 6.The Mustang III is $259.99 with coupon code at nstuffmusic.
@Danglesboy1 Not needed the Mustangs sound great but you could if you wanted to.
