Fender Mustang II Footswitch Programming

- Hey everybody! I hope you find this on useful. This video is a tutorial type video on how to program a footswitch to different presets on the Fender Mustang II V.2. The basic order of operations is Go to desired preset→ Hold save until blinking→Press footswitch until desired color appears (red/green) →Press save one more time. That’s it!!
There are a TON of ways to use footswitches. Let me know what some creative ways that you use them are in the comments!

You can also use the marshall footswitch mg50dfx.it's worked.

Hi ShredBox...I'm having a little trouble with my Mustang-2. When I switch it on, the foot switch light is on and the save button is blinking. The presets don't light up and there no sound from the amp. I tried resetting it but it doesn't work. Can u suggest me something on this??

I have a two button fender foot switch, and I cannot seem to get it to work. It just bounces back-and-forth between two presets every time.
Does the fender mustang 2 40 watt amp come with a footswitch?....I see your using a one button on/off switch.....Is that the switch I need?
I am a little bit confused. I thought the foot-switch was for looping through all the saved presets. But according to this I can only switch between 2 effects. Is this correct?
vtserej Sorry for the confusion, you can switch between any two presents. I was just saying that one way you COULD use it to turn an effect on or off

hey my amps jack was fixed but now even tho i dont have a footswitch the amp switches arond like i am pressing a footswhitch is there any way to disable this problem it is problably because of the input and ftsw chip inside

There's one big problem though. I set mine up between clean and metal, but the problem is, when I switch between them, the volume changes drastically from one channel to the other. One might sound good but the other will be loud enough to wake the neighbors. Is there a way to fix that?
the volume is saved in the presets as well, so you have to change the volume and then save the preset.

Can i save the effects (eg. delay) with this footswitch ? E.g If ill save clean preset with delay and ill change it do distortion and again change to clean does the clean preset will be with effect ?

It is not important to have exactly this switch. You can put any One-Switch-Pedal (a WahPedal, a Distortion-Pedal, ...) on this amp. The only thing, which is importan, is the one push-button on the pedal. You do not have to buy this from Fender. Use a random pedal like I do.
works a pedal overdrive/distortion in a clean preset in fender mustang l/ll? i have this doubt, if it will work well, or better will pay this footswitch? sorry for my english.

whats The levt knob on 4 swith for mustang 4 ?
+Peter Melin On the 4 button switch, the left knob switches modes. Mode 1 is for storing 3 presets, mode 2 is used to swap preset banks, and mode 3 is used to turn effects on or off. Holding the left button also activates the tuner I believe
Do you plug the cable that's in your guitar into the input jack or into the other side of the pedal?
For this video, I was only using the effects from the amp rather than any effects pedals so it would go straight into the input jack on the amp.
thanks for that manual on the mustang that was a big help.Ive never used a footswitch but I can tell I will need 1 when I get the mustang 1.So with the footswitch I can only access 2 presets at a time right?I can constantly change those 2 presets to other presets if I choose to right?Does this video apply to the mustang 1 or just the mustang 2?Thanks again!
No problem :) That's right. So basically you can program two presets that you can switch to using your footswitch by following the steps from the video. You can reprogram those anytime you want to. If you are on the green preset, you can switch to the red and visa versa. If you are on a preset that is not programmed on your footswitch, then it goes to one of the ones that you do have programmed (I can't remember if it's red or green off the top of my head). All of this should be exactly the same for the Mustang I as it is for the Mustang II.
if I wanted to save 2 presets that are both in the green bank can I do that and would the footswitch show one as red the other green?..Or can I only save 1 preset from the green bank..the other from the red bank?
You can save any two presets. When I was saying red/green I was referring to the footswitch led color.

Hi I have two questions, first could I use the 4 button petal board on the mustang two amp? And second what were the two amp setups/sounds you were using for the smells like team spirit song?
Roman Rodriguez The four button won't work with this amp unfortunately. I don't remember exactly what settings I used, but I'm pretty sure the clean is the twin with the spring reverb. The dirty might be a deluxe with an "orange box" in front of it.

Roman Rodriguez Yep. Any one button footswitch should work and you can use any pedal with it. There is no fx look though so pedals like modulation, delay, and reverb might not sound as good to you as through the fuse app. Their still worth a try though
do i have to make 2 presets for this to work? what if i just want to turn on and off an effect in one preset iv already edited?
thewillingwell In that case you would want to save that preset twice with the second having the effect off. Then switch between those two

My question - Can you use the same preset channel without any effects, save it - Then use the same preset channel with effects and with the click of the foot switch go from No Effects to Effects using the same channel? Thanks.
John Kozel No, you would have to use to different presets with the same settings, but just have one with an effect(s). For example if you have Deluxe with the green led set to Gain=7 Volume=5 Treble=5 Bass=7 then you could use any other preset(I would recommend using the same preset on a different colour, so for this example we will use Deluxe orange.) and set it to the same settings (Gain=7 Volume=5 Treble=5 Bass=7) but then add the effect. Hope this helps.
John Kozel nevermind I was mistaken. You can save the preset once with effect to the ftsw and once more with no effect to the ftsw
dude i hope you could help me, I got a 2 button footswitch for mustang 2, when I press 1 button it takes me to one preset but when i stop pushing that button it returns me too the first one.

What kind of footswitch is it? Is it maybe a momentary footswitch? Momentary footswitches don't latch, so you would typically use them for when you only want to turn on an effect or whatever you are controlling for a couple of seconds. I know in general you can't use the functionality of a two button with the mustang 2, but maybe I can find something if I know what the model number of your switch is.

Hey there! Off the top of my head here are a couple of other ways:
1) Set your red setting to be the same settings, but a louder volume and then switch for solos to "punch out" a little bit more.
2) Use the footswitch to add an effects chain. So instead of just turning on the chorus pedal like the example from the video, you could use the footswitch to turn on/off a chorus, phaser, and reverb at the same time.
3) You could use it like a killswitch. If you have one setting with the volume at 0, hitting the footswitch back and forth will act basically like a killswitch.
Get creative and have some fun with it ;) Let me know if you come up with any other cool ways to use it!

I don't think I would have had the same level of understanding if I started younger. I have a lot more patience and mathematical knowledge now than I did when I was your age. It's helped me to focus on things and learn them in more depth from a conceptual state and a mechanical state (like what is actually happening when you pluck a string for example.) That's let me modify my tone and understand what is going on more. And I get to go learn all of this music that I started to fall in love with as a teenager like AC/DC, Goatwhore, Ramones, etc. It's a way to escape.

Hi Pablo. You can have 24 presets when using a Mustang I or II. The footswitch will let you switch between any two of these.

Aryan Lodhi you don't need the Fender version. Any 1 button footswitch should work. I'd suggest looking for a used one.

Is the Mustang 3 worth another $140?
+tigerbalm Depends on what you want to do with it. I bought the 2, but in hindsight should have gotten the 3. The 3 has an FX loop and XLR outs for recording or sending to a mixer. It also has much more footswitching capability. If you aren't planning on recording or using effects outside of the ones built-in, go with the 2.
