Dude!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are the only guy on the frigging internet that explains this well! I just bought the mustang 3 V2 and they don't tell you that the 2-button switch that comes with it ONLY switches the channels up or down! Here I was trying to program it for like 2 hours, looking all over the net, Fender site, and no info....then wham I found you thank God! I thought I was going nuts! I went out and got the 4 button switch......I love the easy way you just held the camera close to the amp and LCD to show us how to program the dam thing, you made it so easy! Thanks brother you rock!
Steve Orsinelli the two button switch does mot onlusten switch channels up and down, it can also be programmed to switch effecten on and off, your stompbox, modulation and delay
Yes. It goes up and down. However, it can save 2 presets. It's either the up/down function or it can save 2 presets but not both at the same time. Either up/down OR two presets.
not sure if it was covered but the two button footswitch can also be used for two effects via the utility menu, you can set what it does from in there (up/down or stomp/delay) etc. :) Thanks for the video man I am going to get one for my Mustang III today just so I can utilize more of the effects on each patch I save.
Really appreciate the explanation Ed. Fender really dropped the ball on operating this potentially complicated amp head. It seems they cared more about printing the very limited information in the manual, in 6 other languages, lol.
I just purchased a Fender Mustang IV amplifier 2 days ago, and this video was very detailed and helpful. I can now use the 4 button switch with no problems at all, thanks
I use my Mustang 3 a lot differently than most people. I like a single amp setting 86 which is the 57 twin setting. I then use the 4 button switch only in mode 3 just to select the effects as well as using the tuner. It's a way of using the amp in a analog way much the same way as using analog pedals and a single non programmable amp. It's a much simpler way to use the amp.
Thanks for a straightforward explanation. Very well done. I couldn't find any logical tutorial about the programming of the pedals prior to finding your video.
I totally agree with the last post. I own a mustang IV with a 4 switch I've had it for five weeks and three gigs. I could not figure out how to program the button. The instructions and others here are no help. YOU have finally simplified it and it works great. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Hi Ed: You have an ULT-4 there. That's why the labels are off. The MS4 (For Mustang) and the ULT-4 (For G-DEC) are exactly the same devices internally, but the labels are different because the mode 3 functions are different on each amp. I discovered this by accident as I have a G-DEC 3 30, and a Mustang III. Handy to know if your having trouble finding one switch or the other, or don't want to buy both.
Thank You Ed, very informative. The manual that came with the head, had a whole lot of nothing printed in it. Your video definitely cleared things up a bit, thanks. This Mustang V is incredible, and even better on stage (:-)
This video was excellent! Thank you! Very informative. I was trying to understand the difference between Mustang II and III. Your video helped me understand that I definitely will want that extra pedal. Which means the III will be my choice since the II apparently only has that tiny one button pedal and no ability to connect the big pedal.
NO MATTER WHAT THE 3rd ROW OF A 4-WAY FENDER FOOTSWITCH READS (LOOPER; RECORD; OR PLAY OR WHATEVER), THEY OPERATE THE SAME!!! THE FOOTSWITCHES STILL TURN ON OR OFF THE STOMP FEATURE; THE MOD FEATURE AND THE DELAY FEATURE ON THE MUSTANG III.
Fabulous overview. I combined your lesson with a search on the Fuse Forum and by moving the presets closer together, I hope to get more value out of the Mustang III.
You may have the amp settings on "quick access". That means the switch jumps to whatever patch the quick access is set to. I don't know about the M1 but my M3 has a footswich control option that allows me to choose what the footswitch controls. It sounds like you want a simple up/down. That should be an easy option.
I just bought a Fender Mustang IV which came with the 4 button footswitch. It only had a quick start guide which didn't go into any detail about how to use the footswitch. The guide said to see the "Advanced Owners Manuel for details" which wasn't included in the shipping box with the amp I got. Maybe you are supposed to get it online??? In any case, I appreciated this video! Thanks so much.
Fender did a PISS POOR job of explaining ANYTHING this monster can do!! I know it is very involved, but they didn't even try! Just bought a Mustang 3 and I quickly found out I was on my own. That bullshit quick start chart is a complete JOKE! Are you guys kidding me??? All I can really say is THANK GOD FOR YOU TUBE!! And you, Edward! I also just bought the 4 button and you got me through it easy enough.
The only difference I can 'see' from the Amazon photos is that the 008-0996-000 says Mustang on the top and Stomp instead of play in second position low. It is $60, not $53. There is a $53 one on eBay. So for $12 more I will just get that one. Thanks for posting this vid!
I know the Gdec works on mine, just the bottom row of lables are wrong, but if you know what they mean, then it appears taht both foot switches work for either Amp. ..Hope that helps ..>Ed
No sorry cuz the Mustang 1 has only one spot to put the foot switch. The Mustang 3 has two recepticles for foot switches one for the 2 button adn the other for the 4 button....Thanks for the comment Ed
Im sorry if someone already asked but do you notice a audible pause or mute when changing presets? I'd like to be able to use the footswitch to go from dirty/clean while playing but some modeling amps have a really bad pause.
It should be pretty instantaneous...But there are a lot of variables between patches so it tries to make adjustments for each new patch and then reconcille it with the knobs/ settings on the amp at the present time...Hope tha helps ..Ed
Sorry if this has been asked already. Can you connect an expression pedal to either of the 2 or 4 switch units (if you are using both)? The manual indicates that you would connect an exp pedal to the 4 button SW input. So if that is used - can you plug one into the switch itself? Thanks..
Thanks for the video, man. Due to I'm not a native english listener I'm still having one principal doubt about the 4 buttons switchfoot, and I want to resolve it because I'm considering buying it, so I hope you have a little time to help me. Basically I understand that you can set up 3 effects in each 3 buttons (lets say I choose button 1-Distortion, button 2-Clean and button 3-Tremolo). Here's my doubt: Is it possible to after using that set up quickly change it to another where the effects are others (for example: 1-Chorus, 2-Flanger 3-Phaser)? I need that function for live giging! I hope I express myself clear. Thanks a lot once again!
If you want to do two different modulation effects, the best way for live work is to set two presets next to each other in order.....for example on 01 and 02, and adjust those presets exactly alike accept for the differences in the modulation effect ( since you can use only one type of modulation per preset). Having them next to each other makes it a fast change to just hit the up or down button once to skip back and forth between the 2 presets. I hope this makes sense.
Hey man, great video, I have a question. If I have 2, 4 buttoms footswitches can I still use then and edit them? They don't look like the one you have. Can I still use them? Thanks
i have a problem with my foot-switch, i have a fender mustang 1 and i have brought a fender mustang 1 foot-switch. when i plug it in i want tit to change from distortion to clean and back again but it goes onto something random do i have to set it up or what please help...thanks
Something screwing was going on. Try a factory reset. That solves a lot of problems like this......just make sure your custom presets are backed up. ( I know this post was years ago but somebody else might have the same question )
Hey! Do you maybe know, if it's listening to music on mustang 3 bad for an amp speaker? I know it has aux input to conect it with many different devices, but is it bad to use it as computer speaker? More or less low volume... Thank you.
For live use its designed to use all 6 buttons to use but remembering numbers is a pain on the fly one of 2 poor designs other is no a and b channel so you have to make 2 amps and switch channel between 1 and 2 instea of others like peavey and line six that have clean an distorted (overdrive is the amps overdrive)
I just bought this pedal and I’m very disappointed because I feel like I wasted 80 dollars... it doesn’t work for anything. It turns on but the buttons just don’t work, the LED’s don’t change and I can’t even change a preset. Does anyone know the reason behind this? I feel like I should get my money back...
Study the video they work as I stated, make sure you have them plugged in to the correct inputs in back, if they aren't working then something is wro g with your amp..sorry I hope you get it fixed.
Once you're done setting it up, just save the pre-set and it will / should save your foot switch settings. Any time you make any adjustments, you'll need to re-save.

Thanks Edward...I've had my Mustang 3 for sometime now..... had it on stage once and was lost.... thanks for taking the time to record and share....
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I’ve had a Fender Mustang for years & never had a clue- not anymore! Wow-always better late than never. 👍
I just purchased a Fender Mustang IV amplifier 2 days ago, and this video was very detailed and helpful. I can now use the 4 button switch with no problems at all, thanks

thank you for a very straight forward approach for setting up the petals
Fabulous overview. I combined your lesson with a search on the Fuse Forum and by moving the presets closer together, I hope to get more value out of the Mustang III.
Im not sure about the big foot switch but there is a place to put a foot swirch on the Mustang 1.. So it does have the ability for a foot switch.
You may have the amp settings on "quick access". That means the switch jumps to whatever patch the quick access is set to. I don't know about the M1 but my M3 has a footswich control option that allows me to choose what the footswitch controls. It sounds like you want a simple up/down. That should be an easy option.
Thank You for breaking it down for us!!! I just got this same setup and Im really happy with it!
ed,great vid just a quick note the 4 button switch comes standard with the iv and the v .
They include the 4 button free in the V and 5 models the 3 includes 2 button , 1 and 2 have a single button.
I have the 2 button switch and it doesn't seem to respond anymore. Do you know if the battery is replaceable by just opening it up?
I just bought a Fender Mustang IV which came with the 4 button footswitch. It only had a quick start guide which didn't go into any detail about how to use the footswitch. thankyou just bought V2 comes with 4 switch stomp box you were the only one I could find with a unstandable what to do video thanks heaps
I noticed if you use the four button switch in mode 3 for stomp box etc the red save button lights up is that usual
Cheers
i have mustang 1 and the single footswitch and it works perfect
Thanks for sharing the knowledge, it was helpful
Great tutorial you did here. Why did you get rid of your Mustang after you spent all this time to learn how to use it ?
Did your mustang III come with a cord for the 2 switch. Mine did not and I am trying to figure it out.
Mine came with the cords for the foot switch and for the speaker cabinets cords 2 of those so 3 all in all.

Is there a difference between this one and the 008-0996-000? It is $53 on Amazon and the one you demo is $41. -thanks

I know the Gdec works on mine, just the bottom row of lables are wrong, but if you know what they mean, then it appears taht both foot switches work for either Amp. ..Hope that helps ..>Ed
Thank you sir! It gave a better idea how to use the Mustang III Amp
Thanks man. This was exactly what I needed to know.
thanks for the comment!...Ed
But it doesn't mean it won't work right? Would it even work with the 2 button?
Very good video. Thank you sir!
No sorry cuz the Mustang 1 has only one spot to put the foot switch. The Mustang 3 has two recepticles for foot switches one for the 2 button adn the other for the 4 button....Thanks for the comment Ed
any two button foot switch would work just make sure the pedal only is not a pedal that controls effects...
the one that came with the amp are not stompboxes, right?
Thank you very much. I just got the III v2 w/out a manual.(floor model) From the online manual I guess I didn't miss much.
Does it need batteries or is it powered by the amp?
ty very very much your video helped me out alot ...
Good Job Edward! Thank you!
Its powered by the Amp...no batteries needed....Thanks for the quaestion and look at my site...Ed

Great, I just setup three and now I want to change them, how do you change it again, so that's where the tuner is great...thanks alot.
Use the left button to go to mode 1. Press and hold button 1 dow. for tuner. You must be in mode 1 to use tuner (Top light).Hope that heps..Ed
I'm trying to find a G-Dec 3 footswitch with lots of BS, so you're saying the MS4 works?
thanks a million buddy, that was great

Yes, it works with the 2 button switch too.
hey.. the boss gt10 can be used as a foot controller for the mustang iv v2 without amp gizmo or similar?
Nice Info on this video . - Jerry - aka - HUTCHfromBA . Blues On....
.can you assign the foot-switch to have the quick access
settings be custom amps
Sorry for the wavy ticker bar, when I choose You tube to fix the jittery video it made the Ticker bar go crazy!! So everyone!!....Ed
I want to know how the hell to use de wah effect with a 4 btn switch in ny mustang iv... Do I need another footswitch for that? That even exist?
There is auto wah in th software in the Mustang amp. look under stomp box adn there is a touch wah....see my other videos...Ed
Imwonder why mode 3 isnt just effects that you assign to the pedal in the amp
The small footswitch works for Mustang I?

thanx. I really couldn´t understand how to do it. :)
Great job, dude!
Will this work on mustang II?
That's MY question! Did you ever find out?
The V2 mustang head has the 4 button switch, but it doesn't have the record overdub writing on it so it may be different than this one on the video.
on my mustang lll how do i change the 2 button settings...?
Cool, comprehensive

They are for th GT series amps as it has a looper built in cheers

Yes, but not on the mustang 1. That's because the mustang 2 and 3 has a FTSW plugin.
