According to traditional japanese martial arts, you don't use your right hand, that is the hand at the front of the grip to swing the sword. It is only used to guide or stabilize the sword. You use your left hand to swing your sword, that is the hand at the end of the grip. You use like a lever or you could even compare it to swinging a fishing rod.
I know i am joining in on the negative things. Yes this is suppose to be a work out thing and appreciated but at the least it might be good to be commited to your cuts. Follow through with them and not stop at the middle. Use actual proper cutting techniques for a workout is great and gives you proper handeling and balance to
I use a bokken for work out as well, but the exercises shown here seem not to be very useful from my opinion. There are very good exercises that can be done.
Get a real katana do suburi with it. Difference is extemeley high. Your skill also will improve further. When you start to hear the song of the sword you will see your skills are improving . (song of the sword is not a myth its simply the sword makes a sound due to its sharp egde when you are able to "cut" the air itself)
@@copperhead-rc5sx I started out with the real one. So i got acquainted with the weight of the blade. It's much more efficient. Unlike using a rubber or a wooden sword that makes your moves look goofy. My arms fingers feet and head are still intact =)
The moves are based on Samurai sword fighting manuals which, have inspired Kenjutsu but here the focus is primarily on fitness as it is the entire body movement that powers the practice sword.

Order a wooden training Bokken from Amazon or Walmart. Yes, Walmart!! Has to be online but should be able to get what you need for less than $20.00. Then go to www.swordxp.com and spend the day training with Adrian Paul, the Highlander (series & Highlander:Endgame) and learn how it’s done in movies. He’s taken The Sword Experience across the US and Europe twice now and getting ready to roll out 2019 schedule. Near Chicago or Laredo, TX.. they are the next 2 events. #sxpfans
michael angelo firme most Bokken are supposed to be heavy as they are a raining weapon and made to make you feel as though they are heavy so when you swing a real sword you have more “gains”
I liked this video. There was no fluff, it was informative, short, and to the point. I'm going to use these exercises to supplement my katana training.

I don't agree with you. These exercises are the worsest way for you to your kata training... Just see they are No balance, no strength in posture, no flexibility, no fluiditity, the body is to tight.... This is a very bad vidéo you cannot progress with that you will regress only because if you do that , you will used to do so many bad mouvement so many bad position... You will lose your time with that. Read the Gorin-no-sho of Miyamoto Musashi en learn and practice on your own way and fight with otther camarades and will you progress.
Please don't. This is horrible for swordsmanship. If you just want some cardio then who cares but if you want to even pretend to learn to be a swordsman from this you're going to fail instantly. He has ZERO attention to footwork, something EVERY martial art and especially swordsmanship focuses on. He also has terrible upper body technique, half-assing the strikes and melding them together to just get over with it rather than having high acceleration and sharp stops. A big part of Swordfighting is distance, and manipulating the shared distance. If you don't learn to properly shorten or extend distance, you might as well be sat in a chair while your opponent will outmanoeuvre you.
Imagine a Samurai in the field with shorts and Nike shoes LOLLL
It's always the hidden ones that are least expected
Ninja.
I feel anyone who knows how to swing a sword would easily take down this guy

True, but I train ambidextrous for equal muscle tone and flexibility. Really saved my shoulders a few years back

That weigh 20kg..your arms are going to fall off doing this.
@@light8130 I'll start of with an empty bottle... Then gradually try to go up

What is the name of this martial art?
The moves are based on Samurai sword fighting manuals which, have inspired Kenjutsu but here the focus is primarily on fitness as it is the entire body movement that powers the practice sword.
Samurai workout was actually cardio and not weight unless your sword was tachi or heavier blade
How to get that katana?

where did you bought your BOKKEN? i think its a little bit heavy.
Judging by the oversized Tusba i would say it is from Cold Steel. www.coldsteel.com/products/training-knives/o-bokken.html

Your form needs work. Go with the sword make it fluid.
lol
BUAHAHHAHA you are so bad at it
Bear in mind it is a fitness program, not Kenjutsu.
Legwork lacks proper positions
We understand what you're saying. This is for fitness as opposed to Kendo, in which case there would be different stances used.
This has terrible form
It is designed for fitness not Kenjutsu.
Yea, and fails at that equally
