Having purchased a Katana a few years ago I quickly realized how dangerous they are. The cutting ability and how easily it penetrates things gave me a lot of respect for it. It is not a weapon to take lightly. I keep mine sheathed and only take it out on rare occasions to keep it oiled. It would have been amazing to have had the opportunity early in life to properly train with them.
I must respect and admire your dedication and reflection but it is never too late...if you've been cut, you know the heat and pain it brings and the safety it ensures and I say you still have the strength and capability to use your weaponry, regardless of weight, with the speed and precision of a leaf in a gale
I just got a Katana. This is a great beginner guide. The swinging came natural to me, as I've owned other types of long swords. It's the sheathing/unsheating I needed help with, since the other swords I've used were supposed to be docked on the left hip. But I think I got it now. It seems that video games get that part wrong too.
I have never touched a katana in my life. The extent of my knowledge is a handful of B rated movies, but after watching this video, I am ready to defeat a thousand ninjas.
I think that's not humanely possible, if I'm correct, the speed at which the sword is shot from the sheath is so big that you would actually dislocate and break your whole arm if you tried to grab it or smth
I do karate shotokan and I train but I get bored while watching t.v and using my mobile so I thought that I should start learning a new skill this is perfect
This is hands down the best collab! I didn't expected to see Shogo-san here! What a great lesson! Arigato gozaimasu Shogo-san! Please keep teaching us!
Well done you're a good teacher. The only thing I would add is that it's important to remember the left hand stays in the center of the body for diagonal cuts. The sword pivots around the left hand not the right.
Thank you some much for posting this video! ☺️ I just got a bamboo Katana for Halloween and I really wanted to know how to use it right for a beginner! So once again thank you for posting this video 😁
This might sound a bit silly, but I have a dnd character who uses a longsword reflavored as a katana. Is there any more good videos showing and explaining traditional kenjutsu styles?
I’ve always found katanas to be really beautiful things, but they’re also so dangerous if you don’t know how to use them right. My brother gifted me his katana since he only keeps it on display and I’m trying to learn how use it proper now
I would love to get a sword for Christmas but I’m just starting to learn more about how to handle one. And they’re are pretty expensive but I appreciate you for sharing these videos they are awesome. Keep up the great work!😎👍🏾
hey mini Katana I just wanted to say I got the new tanjiro hinokami katana dull and it said it was made of metal but when i opened it it was wood I am still happy with it but I kinda wanted what I ordered.
nice video but what if im left handed should i readjust myself and start using my right hand like this(in the video) or should i use it vice versa with my left hand?
this is totally late but maybe you still need the answer, or another left handed person may stumble across this in todays world, you can wield your katana left handed, use your right for power and left to stop and control. however if you were a left handed samurai back in the let’s say the edo period, you’d be trained to wield the katana right handed despite being left handed. he explained why, if samurai could chose which side to equip their swords, as you’re walking you may bang scabbards with a fellow samurai, which would probably lead to a fight considering how important these swords were to these men

How early in life would be necessary you think you be really good at it?
How to bring back to us?
