loads of thanks for this video; very useful instructions
Hey, Jesus has died on the cross so that (and perhaps, there is more) we may be forgiven for our sins (perhaps for everyone). Jesus rose from the dead! 🙏
Please accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through him.🙂
time to start training :)!!
Always remember, a sword is not a toy and requires complete focus and attention!
So,first we have to practice with wooden sword.😊
I have a Legend Of Zelda plastic master sword so I’m using This tutorial to help
western swords and katanas are 2 different things tho
Katana*
UNDERSTOOD!!!!!
It doesn't even felt like 30 minutes when you're trying it out. This was extremely informative and fun to learn. I was wondering whether you are going to make a part 2 or not
I didn’t even feel like 30 minutes just watching it.
@@GeckyWecky I should've bought a short sword

Glad you asked your sensei before you taught these basic techniques. Shows that you have respect for him and you take your swordsmanship very seriously.
Your Sensei must be confident in your skills.
This both shines on your skilllevel aswell his teachings.
I have a nice condition WW2 type 98 sword that was handed down to me, a recent shoulder injury had the doctors wanting me to do exercises similar to your teachings here, I have combined my sword with your teachings and what the doctors want me to do and things are starting to heal up now, best wishes from England.
The Briish Samurai
Pull and push upon drawing the sword and push and pull when cutting. When you get it right, it is fluid motion. My sensei was brutal, but he left me with very important lessons. I owe him a debt of gratitude.
I myself do Iaido and almost at 1st Dan the fact that you are teaching online is amazing you've already beat my goal of teaching thousands in real life once I get a dojo
I always thought the drawing/sheathing part of a Katana looked so cool and graceful. Especially the sheathing part. Thank you for sharing this, Shogo-san.
Sharing knowledge is everything
Instructions unclear, floor cut in half
I just got a katana. I’m very excited about learning how to use it it properly. I’ve learned so much stuff in the first 10 minutes already. You are a great teacher thank you
Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I can't wait to finally start training
I’m going to start with a wooden katana and move to the real thing
This is incredibly helpful! I had trained in Kendo for a year in a dojo, however my sensei was...also new to using a sword, and I've largely been training myself ever since, with Bokken's.
I recently bought a proper, real katana to train with, and I felt there were a few missing things with my form, things that other sources online have entirely breezed past, which you covered!
I feel far more confident in training with more proper form now!
I've always been able to draw my sword pretty smoothly but I always had trouble with sheathing it until I saw one of your older videos that talked about the process. once I learned about the proper hand placement it instantly became so much easier to the point where I could sheath it without looking after just a few tries though it's not completely smooth yet, still need to practice.
I feel like the sliding is surprisingly easy once you know to even do that. You just slide and insert. Wait no-
@@toastslicer4885 oh my!
Thank you for the great tutorial. I have a "katana" hand forged but made in China(so not a real katana). It is very sharp so I get a little nervous with it. I may need to get a laido specific sword for practice It was great to watch your instruction with Kazu and Tomoko(Great job!). I hope to start training at our dojo in the near future. Love the videos!
Glad it was helpful!
@@LetsaskShogoSensei Shogo, can you send me a Katana, I don't think I'll be able to afford it for quite a while
On uchi-chiburi, the reason why the blade seems like it may cut Kazu's hand is because his left leg/hip needed to move back. Like Shogo demonstrated, drawing and sheathing require complimentary movements with both hands and hips. Many mistakes can be corrected by slowing down and focusing on the fundamentals.
I love how you’re always so happy when teaching us and so enthusiastic about it. ☺️
It's so cool! I'm from Russia, and I'm practicing with a katana, your lessons are a positive charge and smiles, thank you sensei!
Day one light bulb gone
OMG I love how you can actually point out the details of the movements that are crucial, you have literally prevented me from doing all those matched moves THAANK YOU you are truly amazing at explaining :DD🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m training right now with a wooden katana because I’m too young for a real one. I really liked how to put on the Hakama, it helped a lot! My favorite attacking choice is the sideways.
I'm from Philippines and I studied in Japan when I was around 8-10 years old. And I have always been fascinated about Japanese weapons, particularly the Katana. So I am currently watching this now because I managed to forge my own using Spring steel. I know it's not Tamahagane steel but I will buy a real Katana soon. Thank you for the basics Shogo-san ❤️
Love the energy and cheerfulness of you, great video
どうもありがとうございます 🤩 Thank you for making Iaido more accessible! I'm happy that your sensei is ok with you showing some skills online. You make an excellent sensei, you explain everything clearly and you make it fun! I'm one of the many saying to you that I don't have an iaido dojo to go to so your videos are a blessing! 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 🙏🏼
Learning basic Iaido Training techniques is really amazing! I would definitely give it a try and using a katana is truly wonderful! Thank you so much for a great tutorial Shogo!
Great video Shogo and company!
I really enjoyed this one.
When someone has trained for years and know exactly what they're doing, they make it look easy! Great job. Fun, informative, and extremely detailed
I love iaido and have been training in jikkiden for 2 years now. Hoping to take my first test early next year. It is an honor participate in this powerful and beautiful part of Japanese history and culture! Great video!
Super helpful! I'm new to Iaido as of this year and it's been a wonderful addition to my life. Unfortunately there are no schools for me so videos like this are essential to my training! Thank you for everything you do and your amazing channel. :)
I love the way he likes every comment from when the video got posted
step 1: get a katana
I do sell katanas
I make them out of sticks
@@izzeclipse4197really?
@@JapanesemonkeVR yess
no, just use your broom stick, you can already do that
It’s awesome to hear you sought out permission for these demonstrations. It shows that your instructor has faith enough in you and is happy to help you spread interest in this martial art!
pretty sure most of the viewers just found a stick and made that their new katana and are here for their training
As someone who does have a dojo, I still find this quite useful
This is very therapeutic, and relaxing. Let the blade do the work. Thank you so much for this tutorial.
I’ve been training in iaido for about a year and a half now and it is so interesting to see the differences in the styles such as the sheathing and compare them
My sensei was very proud of me when I was training in judo, karate, akido with some short training on the katana and videos I’ve seen also some movies. Love the last samurai I took that into my training thanks.
Thank you for all your encouragement and wisdom.
I hope your hands are doing better.
I started following you for the information you gave on living in Japan and now am into swordsmaship... thank you!
love this!
Thank you so much Shogo! Just got my first katana and was so excited to do this training with you!
This was amazing!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make and post this.
Such a great video, I really had fun trying it at home!
Thank you for taking the time to make the videos, I really appreciate it
You have a great personality for training. Very clear, precise but still fun.
All of your videos are very informative and enlightening. It's always fun to learn about one of my favorite types of blades, and more about Japan.
I've fallen very much in love with Katanas and after discovering your channel I wanna say thanks for inspiring me to learn and properly use a katana. Thank you Shogo!
My personal opinion is that you are a brilliant teacher. It's not just about passing information to another. It's also the WAY it's done. Well done.
This is very informative! So much I've learned from watching your videos. I really appreciate your simplicity in teaching!
I’ve wanted to take it for a while thanks for the tips
Just stumbled upon your awesome page and have now seen hours of your content. You’re awesome! Thanks for sharing the content and sharing the care/respect/responsibility that comes with all this. It’s not just a new hobby anyone can pick up and forget about. Picking up a katana something that takes a serious level of dedication and respect. Thank you again, Shogo!
His smile and energy makes you just really believe in yourself ! Thank you for all the amazing content you do ♥
Thank you very much. I've had a katana for about three years or so. Before this video came out, I studied another video on sheathing a katana, and I stuck myself a few times before getting the hang of it. Your method is more practical and less painful.
Excellent video! I just started my journey today actually! Glad I found your channel!
I have been your videos for some time, now. And just like "oh, another Shojo video to watch!". I really like them! And today I found... I am not even a subscriber, they just keep coming. So I am a subscriber now!!
thank you for these Katana teachings, when the time comes, and I can purchase a Katana, I will know how to practice. Thank you again!
Great video!!
Thank you so much, this was very interesting and informative! I appreciate it! 😊😊😊
Shogo‼️ thank you for making such excellent videos for us.
Very informative. The more i watch your brilliant iaido videos the more I want to learn it for myself. It has really hit my curiosity and desire to experience and learn more.
This was amazing. You are an awesome teacher with an excellentr elationship with your students. You made them feel relaxed. Beautiful energy all round.
I spent all of quarantine of 2020 in my garden every day training and learning katana but spent the years after back being empty hand karate at my dojo when we got to reopen. I'm dedicating 2023 to picking up my katana to train again in my garden but because I'm in the UK the weather is often a bit crap so being able to do these drills in my living room will be very helpful thank you 👊
I really like this video! I like how you have your friends do the katas and correct them and give tips on what they should be doing. I really think that it helps people learning at home, as most people probably make the same mistakes and / or have the same questions.
I'm new to Iaido and your channel, and you have a lot of videos. Could you please recommend some of your videos that are similar to this one on learning Iaido? Thank you!
Love your videos for a while but finally remembered to subscribe
thanks for these basic trainings, shogo! cool iaido.
This was absolutely perfect!
どうも ありがとうございます !
This is informative, inspiring, and motivating! Thank you for all the time and effort you and your lovely team put into this video (and other videos!)
This is so helpful. Thanks for sharing
I've started taking Iaido and your videos have been so helpful! Thank you so much for your content!
I'm loving it!
very humble, much appreciated!
I just started practice Iaikido and you appeared with this videos. Universe sometimes works very interesting. Please more videos like that! very much appreciated sir!
Your videos are awesome!
Thank you shogo you have helped me improve my swordsman’s skills. I have gone to you for everything you need to know about katanas.
I love this channel. just found you. it's so awesome.
I just bought practice sword. Can’t wait to start drawing it!
Thank you for these lessons!
I've done the drawing and re-sheathing thing thousands of times.
One of the best feelings is drawing and cutting in one movement. That is addictive.
This is really cool and helpful. I've always shied away from things like this because a lot of my family adapted to Western Culture. Ever since I found your channel, I've been able to learn and practice Japanese culture. It's a huge help. Thank you
Thank you very much Shogo😀
this is an absolutly awesome channel, thx
More of this, please! It is awesome
This channel is pure Gold!
Thanks for the tutorial.
I’ve been been looking for a video like this.
I always enjoy learning from those more knowledgable than myself. My students and I will be drilling these techniques this weekend.
Always have been fascinated by the katana and the culture around them.
Thank you very much for your patient and skillful training. I will look forward to seeing more.
Great energy in your video! Blessings!
thanks for making this video 👍
Your vids are by far the most educational .
this is amazing!
