Almost every kid character in the main cast after her becomes a massive badass and becomes a major figure in taking down the main antagonist, Hayato, Emperio, or Tsurugi.
For me, Poco will be always the great forgotten JoJo kid. That boy literaly saved the Joestar bloodline and yet we never heard from him again after part 1. Rest in peace, brave soldier
Poco is so unappreciated but Phantom Blood as a whole keeps getting whacked, it’s really a shame considering it’s literally the foundation that goes on to define every other Jojos core character traits in the series
Was that his name? Hey, is Poco Loco based on him then, I never made the connection. But I just wish One Piece Netflix team made a self-standing Pocoloco show. Hear me out, SBR is not the greatest to get into. But if a Live-action poco loco show would start out with exposition about the background of SBR, and introduce Funny Valentine early... that could be a great spoiler-free entry point to THEN read SBR, or watch the anime, without having to understand two decades of JJBA. They could also write off a lot of logistics in the adaptation creative freedom, with it happening under Love Train.
@@mrfact03sbruh nobody is gonna remember the full name of every character lol there's nothing about reading comprehension to discuss here. Last time i consumed anything jojo related was 3 years ago and i keep forgetting most stand names
I didn't think about this until now, but I do think Iggy was basically a replacement for her. A smaller, physically non-threatening, self-interested character who doesn't fight that much and that has an adversarial relationship with polnareff. They're even both 'strays,' in a sense. And iggy shows up pretty quickly after she leaves.
I still think Anne filled that role better, having her develop a stand would’ve been better than shoehorning Iggy in near the end of the season. I just didn’t like Iggy, and while Anne may’ve been somewhat annoying as well, an established character in the endgame is still better than a new character. Not to mention, after some speculation, I think The Fool might’ve fit her better than Iggy. The Fool’s ability to shapeshift may coincide with how her backstory is more mysterious, even having lied to our main cast the moment they meet her.
@@mushrambokinniku4900almost every scene she appears in makes me uncomfortable due to how she was forced in these situations and everyone treats her shittily (even gyro and Johnny)
It's hard to not Dislike Araki's editors Like, i understand that putting important female characters in 1987 japan could actually kill the manga for the audience at the time But damn i wish we could have a remake of the early parts to see what araki would do with those scrapped ideas. Specially Lisa Lisa and Anne
I honestly wonder what he would have done with Erina as well. She always seemed to be straining against her own enforced inaction, even if not to the same degree as someone like Lisa Lisa or Anne. Everything Araki showed us about her gave the impression of a very tough and courageous lady underneath her socially prescribed femininity.
@@Lukchukguck And that Really shows btw, Araki should've said no then because that is 90% of the reason why he's such a flat and boring character. He was written not only as a character he wasn't meant to be and fit the part less, but in a relatively small time frame. Can't really blame him though, as he did stand up for the idea on part 6.(Which as a result has a much stronger Jojo)
Shame Araki had to remove Anne because she surviving so many Stand users would have ruined the credibility of the battles. I always wanted to see an adult Anne meeting and helping Jotaro again and even working with Jolyne. Sure both girls would make some pretty cool interactions
I went to check because I was pretty sure it was Kakyoin after Yellow Temperance, and at least in the manga it is. She says "Jojo" in the anime original scene though, so you're right.
one of the most underrated characters in JoJo in my opinion is Shigechi. While he was a greedy little gremlin, he was also a capable fighter, who managed to at least temporarily hold himself up against Kira. and he genuinely cared for his family and became friends with Josuke and Okuyasu, who learned to deal with his mannerisms. and he was the starting point to catch Kira. it's interesting how a character, who would've been a "deserving punching bag", in every other story, managed to carry such emotional weight. he was essentially just a kid, who had still had room to grow, if Kira didn't kill him.
I liked Shigechi, honestly he came around as a goofy character, then i hated him because he was extremely greedy towards Josuke & Okuyasu, but he didnt deserve THIS ending with Kira. I was quite sad after he kicked the bucket. Like he literally vanished without a trace and the girls he spoke to just thought hes creepy. Poor guy.
@@CODA96oh I wanted Kira to go all “hand fetish” on those girls! Even if they couldn’t see Killer Queen I’m damned sure they saw a kid *bleeding out* on the floor, I like to imagine Kira went back for them “just to be sure” 🤬🤬🤬
i love how smokey is the only side kid characters we actually get an epilogue for that shows/mentions their post part life while the next time we get that is the kid in part 7 who is the whole reason why gyro is in the steel ball race.
considering joseph is either 18 or 17 from the start of part 2 to its end if smokey is supposed to be younger i always thought he was about 2 or 3 years younger which to many is still considered a kid. since if you aren't 18 or over you are still thought of as a kid . so him still being the kid side character despite him benig a teenager like joseph is still right in the words of Obi-wan "from a certain point of view"
@@MagillanicaLouM I mean even at 16- 17 you were still not allowed to join the military in most countries to being to young and those who did while being young often lied about their age so they would still be considered kids to a degree at least smokey would if he's still younger then Joseph as by the end of part 2 he could technically join the military
I kinda want to see a Civil Rights era JJBA manga or something set in the original universe. It'll likely never happen, but I just want to see how characters like Erina, Smokey, and Joseph acted in that context. That, and how will that mesh with JoJo's... bizarreness.
The only notable memory of her in recent times for me was when I was browsing the Jojowiki page for Forever and I deadass was like "Oh yeah, her first name is Merlai". That's it. 10/10 character. Truly an integral part of Part 3
@@Crabstar729 Yes but araki speaks Japanese, therefore he would say the name the Japanese way. Kinda like how we say ‘Rohan Kishibe’ in English even though he’s Japanese. It wouldn’t matter either way though because she’s from Hong Kong and the Chinese also put the last name first.
@@davedog0984 When it comes to foreign names, Araki would actually write it as first then last name. Although, yeah, it doesn't actually matter if the name's Chinese. Now I'm wondering what dialect of Chinese it is. I'm not well versed in Chinese; but from my inchoate knowledge, I don't think the "mer" exists in Mandarin or Hokkien. Maybe it's in Cantonese.
4:10 I always interpreted it as she was born in Singapore but moved to Hong Kong or she was on some trip with her parents in Hong Kong and used the opportunity to run away
I occasionally think of Anne getting a stand. Polnareff in the manga even jokes that she might have some type of thieving stand. I came up with one on the fly, "Smooth Criminal", and it's just black puffballs like Ghibli's soot sprites that latch onto objects and carry them off.
Wish she showed up in the background in some way, in a similar fashion to how they show that Smokey Brown became mayor of New York in the anime, she's the exact sort of side character that would be perfect for an ongoing side plot between parts.
My guess is Araki originally wanted to make Anne the "tag-along kid" that appears pretty frequently in JoJo. Part 1 had Poco for a section of it, part 2 had Smokey popping in and out of the story, part 4 had Koichi at the start, and then Hayato at the end once Koichi had matured as a Stand user, and part 6 had Emporio. Araki probably felt that this character archetype wasn't working for part 3, so he wrote Anne out of the story. Just my theory.
Unfortunately, her removal does make sense. Unlike Hayato and Emporio, Anne just doesn't have any stake or connection to the Joestars' battle with the main villain. If anything, Hayato and Emporio were basically forced to help the Joestars against their Part's antagonist. While Anne could've only remained in the journey if the group had completely approved it (which they wouldn't, they had no reason to bring a non-Stand-using child into dangerous scenarios). Even if Anne had a Stand, I don't see her circumstances allowing much.
@mrreyes5004 But Araki has quite literally said she was going to develop a stand and be part of the group, there is no reason he wouldn't have added some ties dor her later. It also doesn't make any real sense to argue you need to have a tie to the Joestars or Dio to be part of the group when Iggy quite literally didn't-his entire point was that he was being dragged into the whole thing.
My first impression was that Anne was like a negative sidekick character opposite of Smokey and the other who were positive sidekicks, there to move the plot along when needed. When she left for good I honestly was expecting her to come back near the end of the season for one more plot advance and I was kinda surprised she didn't. Makes sense that her role was filled by Iggy. Honestly didn't love her character for awhile but I was starting to come around right before she got shipped back. I don't think she made the story worse but I'm not convinced she made it better either.
I would say she does have a negative impact, ONLY for the Strength episode because of ....THAT scene....I literally have to fast forward through it with how uncomfortable it is
For me Straizo is one of the most underrated and overlooked characters.I feel like he had some amazing potential and was pretty important to part 2 because he was the one who informed Joseph about the Pillar Men.I just wish he didn't become evil out of nowhere it doesn't make much sense to me even with his explanation.
Personally for me It would have been interesting if this was a twist, turns out he made up the story that he betrayed Speedwagon for personal power. An when he an Speedwagon discovered the Piller men Santana. They realized that they were ambushed by the Germans as Straizo disciples betrayed him and was working for Stroheim. Forcing him to take on one of the mask to survive, but in the fight Speedwagon and Santana were taken away, realizing some very serious events are about to unfold. He traveled to NYC to warn and prepare Joseph but also to test Joseph if he ready to fight enemies that are stronger then Vampires.
@@silentecho92ableI think that would have been far more hackneyed than Straizo turning on the gang due to a desire to regain his lost youth. I would simply have pushed it later in the story after several hints and a couple of encounters with the Pillar Men. He would then somehow be offered vampirism by the Pillar Men and would betray everyone at a pivotal moment.
I don't see why it doesn't make sense. He was such a nothing character before part 1 you could remove it from the story entirely, like Tompetti. Dire at least was used to hype up Dio, they did absolutely nothing other than killing random zombies and being a musical reference. Part 2 Straits completely gives the character a new meaning and arc, and it makes sense he wouldn't really be as desperate to try the Stone Mask when he was still younger than when he was old, adter realizing not even Hamon was enough for him.
The arc with Anne was my favorite in part 3. My favorite moments in JoJos are always getting to see the world through the perspective of a non-stand user, like her, Koichi at the start of part 4 and Hayato at the end
Hayato is peak. He's always been one of my favorite characters because not only does he manage to help despite not having a stand, but he figures out how to do so on his own. His ability to adapt to extreme circumstances and actually manage to hold his own even if only in a more support type role despite not having powers of his own or the ability to see stands makes him stand out to me as one of the more inspiring characters in the series. It would have been cool if Anne had a similar type of role in the story, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. It's probably for the best though, because Hayato being the first to properly fit into that role makes him a bit more special.
Something I cannot get over is the fact we didn't have a chance to see a story where Shizuka, the invisible baby Joseph took care of in Part 4, get her own story or update. I would love to hear her story.
I like to think Araki kept Anne around as a surrogate for the audience watching all these bizarre events happen through the eyes of a normal, non-Stand user person.
What could have been an interesting dynamic was what if Anne owned Iggy? Can't get rid of her without losing Iggy, and she is the only one he'll listen to until near the end of the journey. (maybe some fights she is literally calling out his attacks) Maybe even have a bit of heartbreak where at the end the gang leave her at the hotel, Jotoro, Joseph, and Polnareff return afterwards to tell Anne Iggy isn't coming back.
This would have been great. It would be a more interesting way of keeping Iggy around than the coffee gum and could even give him a more interesting side: imagine him not only liking children who like dogs, but maybe children in general. Have him get involved against Pet Shop because of a random kid without dogs or even after Anne gets attacked.
What if her Stand would have been all four? Minor Arcana, or Arcana for short. Able to use four different abilities related to Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles. Due to her age, Arcana wouldn't be very strong physically, so she would have had to be a trickster in fights like Joseph. I could see Joseph even teaching her some tricks to get under people's skin and play right into her hands. The name itself would be a play on her age (Minor) and in relation to how her power stacks up against the main Tarot Stands, the Major Arcanas. Also, if she were to have returned to the story aged up, her stand would share her same initials as a double play. Thought I JUST had, maybe Minor Arcana would be a psychological manifestation on how she perceives the Crusaders? Cups would relate to Kakyoin for his caring nature, Wands to Avdol for the mysticism and wisdom he brought, Swords to Polnareff for his chivalry and skill in fights, and Pentacles to Jotaro for a cheeky reference to STAR Platinum, but also his raw power. Where Joseph comes in would be for Anne herself, as he would give her the wile and guile to work with this power and weasel her way out of rough spots.
One of the great things about knowing jojo for so long is that you start appreaciating the small things like characters that don't get much attention by most people, one of my favorite gags in all of jojo is just that one guy posing as a beggar from the petshop fight, he comes out of nowhere and polnareff reacts just as dumbfounded as the audience, lovely!
I like that David Production added an additional scene to give a better conclusion to Anne's arc ! [SPOILERS FOR STEEL BALL RUN AHEAD JUST IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T READ IT YET] I hope they will do the same for Hot Pants wich had a very underwhelming end in my opinion.
I think she could have played a roll as iggys "handler" having a friendly bond and coercing him into being more helpfull, then maybe she could have discovered the stand arrow in dios mansion to set up her eventually being a bigger character in part 4 with her own stand
0:35 That screenshot says nothing about him regretting his decision or that he would make it different if he wrote it today though. I wonder if he said that somewhere else?
@@deandelvin9924 Karera couldn't have done anything, and she was a vagrant type who probably lies easily or just forgot. Also, she liked Josefumi, it'd have gone against what Araki ended up going for if she showed up again
I argue Sandman was worse because his story looks like it was rectonned with the amount of stuff said about him in the beginning compared to when he actual was attacking Johnny and Gyro
It is weird. She's introduced after the structure from the Hamon parts where shed honestly fit much better like Poco did, but before Araki felt comfortable putting kids into the Stand parts action near the end of Part 4 onward. Still i enjoyed her while she was around. She did indeed add a feminine spunk to the group that added some entertainment for me and i like her design.
I agree!! I always thought it would have been nice if she made a reappearance in later parts working as Joseph's caretaker or as a member of the Speedwagon Foundation, looking into Dio's children like Giorno, or the arrows... something like that...!
I would've liked more character development from her. She would've added a female child protagonist to the party to appeal to those demographics. Her naivety but desire to be taken seriously and her traumas as a runaway make for a great base. Finally finding a family to call her own. She should've developed a stand based on illusion and concealment as is her nature. Helping the team in subtle ways. Maybe Ace of Cups should've been her stand which is about beginnings in social situations. She's also a child so the other cast needs to develop protective instincts but also recognize when she can hold her own.
I hadn’t see Link so I wasn’t aware of that reference, would love to see a longer video going over the references to specific horror movies and franchises
This is a really interesting concept where araki legitimately says if I were doing something different today I would do x I think it'd be a pretty fascinating video series if you compiled the. like araki forgot but instead call it like araki regrets
There's a ton of forgotten/underrated JoJo characters I wish we got more spotlight of, and Anne is definitely a great example. She made for a great temporary member for the cast, but of course isn't made to be a part of the heavy-hitting scenes that the part has, given she's only a child. Honestly though, Rikiel is another underrated character I wish we saw more of. Out of all of DIO's sons, he had the best kind of development in the short period of time he had. I would have loved to see more of him, or at least another mention of him later in part 6
If she had a stand, I would make it teleportation related, because the cliche of rambunctious kid running away from the adult, meaning she would be able to run away even better. Also since she seemed to just appear randomly in the arc, it would be bit of a nod to that.
I always really wanted to see a grown up Shizuka, she left quite an impression I'd say and there were many great possibilities. Of course none of that ever happened, but it's still fun to imagine what could've been
I think if she did join the Crusaders, she could have had a powerful support stand as they didn't have any. And she could not know that she had a stand like how jotaro thought he was possessed by an evil spirit she could think her stand is a guardian angel. And when she brought it out in front of them for the first time, it could be before the Egyptian god stands started showing up with her stand being foreshadowing for them called Isis with healing powers and light rays as attacks.
One of mine personal favorites when it comes to those smaller and underappreciated characters would be Shinobu Kawajiri. I think she's a pretty interesting look at Araki writing older (for his standards) women. I think her arc is pretty solid, with her falling in love with her husband in an entirely new way, because she has no idea it's not her husband anymore. It's pretty heartwarming to watch her rediscover all those emotions she had burried for so long and see her start enjoying her life anew. She's probably the only character who is impacted negatively by Part 4's ending, despite not being a bad person. Her character also asks the question whether or not Kira was able to form a genuine relationship with a person that didn't involve him killing her. In general, she's a very fascinating character
Yes, well said. It was very interesting to see Shinobu's life improve with Kira around instead of her original bad husband, and it also adds a lot of creepiness to her situation since we know what a bastard Kira is. She just has the worst luck. A very interesting small aspect is that Kira finds himself wondering if he was worried for her safety when Stray Cat attacks her, but then he dismisses it to himself after the fact that he needs her to stay alive and safe for his cover. Though his worry in the moment appears to be genuine, as it is entirely impromptu, hence he wonders about it and tries to rationalise it to himself. This small aspect of Kira's character never gets resolved, but we see just for a moment that there might be a genuine man somewhere under his evil psychopathic tendencies.
i felt terrible for her because a serial killer masquerading as her husband made her feel more loved than her actual husband did. i always wondered if hayato ever told her the truth.
@@Tearcarlog I doubt it, because who'd believe it? "Dad was killed by a serial killer who stole his face and identity and that's the person you fell in love with again, but because he's an evil serial killer he was tracked down by the friends of a ghost who had been killed by him and got ran over by an ambulance. Also he put an evil spell on me that makes anyone who finds his true identity die before rewinding time and I really hope that it wore off since he died, but I don't know for sure".
im surprised you didnt mention trish, a girl that appears after the main group is established for a while and to keep up with them develops a stand, literally want araki said anne would need to stay with the crusaders. I wouldnt really consider her a child character like your other examples but i think theres clear parallels
I can go either way. On one hand, it is true that the gang would have no reason to take a normal child on their dangerous journey; however, I can see her filling a niche if she had a stand. One thing that I noticed is the Stardust Crusaders take significant damage in battle( Polnareff vs Ebony Devil is a case that particularly stands out). Only Joseph can use Harmon to quickly heal himself. This opens the door for Merlai to be the team's medic. Her stand, Love Scene, can heal herself or others using her stand's tentacles. At first, the gang will have reservations with taking her with them, but they eventually realize that they have no choice. The damage they constantly receive will eventually accumulate, and they will be in no fighting shape when they confront Dio.
Hard to truly say but I’d say my favorite underrated cast of characters would have to be the trio of Dire, Straits and Tompetty since given they trained alongside Zeppeli it kind of bums me out they (mostly Dire) was used to demonstrate just how much more powerful Dio had gotten within that time span of the story when more could have easily been done with even could have Tompetty return for part 2 to assist Joseph within his battle between Straits and have both him and Speedwagon reunite again that is if he was still alive.
Dire at least had an use, even if it was just to hype up Dio. And Straits got masively improved in part 2. But Tompetti? Why does he exist? He could have been only on Zeppeli's flashback and that's it. No one would have wondered where Zeppeli's Master was, lets be honest. Overall I agree the three do represent a problem with Phantom Blood: way too many characters that can't do anything because Jonathan wins all the major battles.
It would've been nice to see Shizuka grow up into an Ally in Stone Ocean, but I'd say due to how it was structured she could only really fit in with the Group after Jolyne left prison. I doubt she could get into prison without the help of the Speedwagon foundation, and even then it'd take a while. She can't come into the C-moon fight with Jotaro because there's barely any room to develop her as a character. I still pray for a Shizuka spinoff though.
@@bitnn4703 You doubt she could get into the prison on her own? I thought her ability was to be able to turn her and everything else around her invisible? Wouldn't that be like perfect for sneaking into a prison? Just like follow a guard or something inside. You could wait outside important doors for hours waiting for some random chap to open them.
she'd be 12 in this part, not sure if anyone would even risk bringing a child into all of that. Emporio was part of the team because he was already trapped in the prison and knew partially about Pucci.
Knowing that Araki would give Anne a Stand if he could do Stardust Crusaders over, the question then follows “What kind of Stand?” Feels like part 3 has enough attack oriented stands, so maybe Anne could get a support Stand. Like a type of healing Stand that could explain how the other main characters recover so fast. Or if that’s too similar to Crazy Diamond, maybe Anne could get a defense-oriented Stand, or a buffing/debuffing Stand. The sky is the limit with Stands, after all.
Someone else mentioned this, but I think this would be a good skill set for a Minor Arcana Stand. Cups could do minor healing, but only fully heal over long periods of use. Cups could also clean/ purify liquids, or taint them to poison them. Wands could either be a buffing type, or a long range stand to defend herself. Swords could be a close range offensive stand, or a physical buff support. Pentacles could be a shielding stand, or a defensive buff stand. I can't decide if I like the idea of Minor Arcana being one Humanoid Stand that embodies all four, or four pieces that manifest sperately like Sex Pistols.
I honestly feel like Anne is the early version of Trish. Her main story at first is them delivering her to her father. The missed potential to give her a stand I feel was reclaimed in Trish.
I Always thought that some of the villains from part 3 deserved some more space. Mariah and Boingo, who then appeared in the Hol Horse spin off, are the first two that comes to mind. I also think that PocoLoco from part 7 deserved some more space, especially considering how things go for him in the end
Apparently the theory with Anne is that shes the daughter of some rich aristocrat that just up and left. Kind of explains how shes able to get around so quickly and why shes in disguise most of the time.
Me and my friend have been watching jojos on the weekends and he was talking about how he wished how Ann would of stayed and I think it was kinda cool that a day after that this video came out
Exactly. Her spunk and carefree childish attitude adds a lot of brevity to the arcs she is in. Not to mention the unforgettable tension and creepiness when Forever peeks on her in the shower, absolutely horrifying. No wonder Araki would reference something that skin crawling from a horror movie. I like her a lot too.
I like to imagine part of her spirit was inherited by Hayato. A non-Stand User helping in a battle that they KNOW is going on, but can't see, and they're still giving it their all and display fantastic courage.
Even though, Anne was a minor character, glad that she wasn't treated like a plot device. Unlike, Tsumiki Fushiguro(Jujutsu Kaisen), she got a nice conclusion.
@@mrfact03s she just appeared out of nowhere, people didn't ask if she was doing alright now and the bam. Not her, I don't even remember if it's said whether that was a copycat or her actual body
I think that one of the more overlooked JoJo characters is Oyecomova just for the fact that he had a pretty standard fight. For me I've allways felt that him putting the bounty on Gyro's head and his want for revenge makes him stand out for me even more.
In some way, shape or form, they gotta make her come back in the alternate universe as a major character. It would also be incredibly interesting if she became the final main antagonist or a core protagonist in Jojolands. If she was the final main antagonist as an adult, I think it would be rather cool cause it would be something previously developed in the series that would be brought back and built upon later like Tooru/WOU being the embodiment of fate/calamity being something previously developed on, in Jojo’s. So the idea of bringing her back as a major player in the story would be rather cool cause it would make everything come full circle and some of her development and ties to the universe/multiverse woulda already been developed.
I would say it’s Shizuka because from a story perspective it’s interesting. She is a baby stand user with the ability to turn invisible and things around her invisible. So she has no knowledge of her actual parents, is living with Joseph and holly Joestar (who are already old and would die in her childhood)
It's even more disappointing because it's specifically mentioned taking care of her for some reason revigorizated Joseph a lot , and we never get to see that. I know Araki doesn't care for fanservice, but it's a bit sad to be told but not shown that after seeing such a changed Joseph in part 4, who not only would go on to live up to Stone Ocean anyways, but that isn't even that old to behin with if he came back to Hamon.
Touching on underrated characters, I’d really like to show some love to Mountain Tim from Part 7 From my understanding, many readers of the part overlook him and his stand because he’s introduced as this a law-abiding cowboy that just wants to do just right and getting fooled by The Boom Boom Family’s disguise, while our main protagonists Johnny and Gyro are given a more unique characterization for main characters compared to the leading members of other parts. While both are generally good natured, Johnny was shown to be incredibly desperate given the events prior to the story, and Gyro was very standoffish and cold, leading to a combination that overshadowed a seemingly one-note character in Mountain Tim To top it off, Mountain Tim get’s taken out of commission the immediate next fight by Oyecomova, and only comes back much later just to be taken out of the part again. While his second appearance was much more instrumental to the climax of the part as a whole, I think it made many readers forget his impact on the story, and the potential he had to be a great foil to Johnny and Gyro if he was in the part for longer. One criticism I have in Part 7 is the lack of focus on characters other than Johnny and Gyro, and while I get that the story is about their journey and growth in the American wilderness, I would’ve loved to see Mountain Tim checking in on them every now and then, maybe acting alongside the Steels to uncover the greater conspiracy of the race, sensing that it could put innocent lives in danger, and he could’ve had a conflict of interest if he learned that the President aka his superior was putting many lives at risk for what is believed to be a noble goal. But alas, Mountain Tim and Oh Lonesome Me will never get more use than what’s already been seen (unless the anime adds in an extra scene like what was shown off in this video but I doubt it) See you earth cowboy.
I think aging anne up to the same as one of the crusaders and giving her a stand like araki mentioned would fix a ton of issues and would even make episodes like Strength more reccomendable. I wonder if she could even work as a genuine love interest for Jotaro ( before anyone says this is childish, they literally did this in part 1 and 2.) But as a mangaka, you dont often have a lot of time.
1:42 I'm not sure if it was ever mentioned but I think the Wheel of Fortune arc was a partial reference to the 1971 film "Duel", especially with the bar scene and the gesture to pass scene
Avdol and Fugo: let us introduce ourselves. Avdol's main problem is that his death felt too much anticlimatic because it felt like a second unnecessary death. His character arc was never finished because he never had his revenge against Dio after he ran away from him. Fugo is probably the character that deserves a spin off the most out of any other character. How did he react to narancia's death, what did he do afterwards... There are many questions about him,he's the first member of Bucciarati team after all.
So the editors didn't want female leads in a shonen manga, and this was also at a time when main characters "had to" be part Japanese. Reminds me of how Naruto was going to be a fox and Sakura wouldn't have existed if not for editors.
out of all the underrated characters some of my favourites are aya tsuji gwess miuccia miuller rikiel and magent magent for a lot of reasons but i don't want to go in depth about why but i like those characters
I gotta say... I always felt that Anne was a convenient weak point for the crusaders. I gotta preface this with being an anime-only for part 3, so I may be very well mistaken, especially since this is an observation I made throughout a single watchalong. Originally, the crusaders themselfes were quite seriously op. They had few to no weak points, so a little girl that could be held hostage or that could slip up was how tension was brought in. After she was gone, in order to create weaknesses, I feel like the crusaders started leaning **slightly** into caricatures of themselfes. Jotaro went from stoic but observant to a mute that sleeps through Polnareff getting an entire head off at the barber. Joseph went from making up for his age with wisdom to grandpa mode. Polnareff just became a macho blockhead when he used to be quite sharp. (Kakyoin was relatively unaffected) I personally liked the "invincible" group more and as such liked Annes role in the story. Not as character, but as a plotdevice. But I also get that that would've been even more difficult to implement later on.
A common fan theory is for Anne to be Jolyne's mother. That didn't end up happening at all, but it would've been a nice way to briefly bring back a character from previous parts, rather than just having Jotaro's ex-wife be an anonymous woman.
I don't know Anne's age but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that'd be weird as hell if true. I know part of it is just the stylization but Jotaro easily looks like he could be Anne's dad.
@@PosiWritesStories Jotaro is supposed to be 17, and Anne is about to hit puberty, so she must be around 12 or 11. I agree that shipping them in part 3 would be weird due to the art styles making him look older and her look younger, but as both of them enter adulthood, the age gap wouldn’t matter as much. Also, in subsequent parts the art style stops portraying the male main characters as extremely buff and strong. Just look at how much Jotaro’s appearance changed from part 3 to 4! Finally, we do have an example of a relationship with a much wider age gap happening in the manga: between Joseph and Josuke’s mom, Tomoko. So I believe it would’ve been plausible for Anne to be Jolyne’s mother, following the logic and tone of the story.
@@DanielGalimidiJoseph didn’t know Tomoko when she was a child, so I don’t think you can call that the same. Iirc both were fully matured adults. I still think shipping Jotaro and Anne is quite weird I’m ngl, especially because one has to make up a hypothetical aged up version of Anne to make it legal in an attempt to justify it, which always rubs the wrong way.
@@PosiWritesStories I don't think "knowing her since she was a child" really has any meaning after said child becomes an adult. Childhood friends sometimes know each other since they were even younger than that, and it's a very common romance trope
If anne stayed, I'd want it to stay the same up until she's made to leave. Instead revealing she's on a quest for revenge against the man who killed her parents (Dio). And is a stand user
To me is Kei Nijimura, I was hoping that the two brothers (Her and Josuke) would travel trying to find more fruit for Holly, or something more sustancial with her character and her implications in the story, but no, she just return at the very end to die.
i feel like lucy steel also fits into the role of “child who supports the main cast but isn’t a stand user” in the same vein as emporio and hayato and i think her character arc and the way she handles threats was really clever and she’s probably my favourite depiction of that genre of character
This would require foreknowledge of later ideas, but have her get a stand arrow used on her and implanted with a flesh bud to be used against the heroes, She then uses herself as a hostage by pretending that her stand isn't hers the heroes figure it out save her and boom now she's got a stand and a personal stake in the story,
it'd be really fun seeing anne be a knife wielding badass normal who helped fight stand users using only her sass and her knife. It's not very foten we see a non stand user deal with one.
Almost every kid character in the main cast after her becomes a massive badass and becomes a major figure in taking down the main antagonist, Hayato, Emperio, or Tsurugi.

It's hard to not Dislike Araki's editors
Like, i understand that putting important female characters in 1987 japan could actually kill the manga for the audience at the time
But damn i wish we could have a remake of the early parts to see what araki would do with those scrapped ideas.
Wasn’t giorno going to be female and editors made araki change it or am I remembering misinformation
@@LukchukguckHe used to be and the editors said the same to Jolyne but Araki refused this time and went with his plan
I love how she even has JoJo Part 3 huge shoulders in some shots lmao.
Shame Araki had to remove Anne because she surviving so many Stand users would have ruined the credibility of the battles. I always wanted to see an adult Anne meeting and helping Jotaro again and even working with Jolyne. Sure both girls would make some pretty cool interactions

*Sad fact:* Anne is the last character who called Jotaro "JoJo". I am not crying, you are crying 😢

Underrated, but not wasted. But I understand how you could make the connection

How old was Smokey again to he called a kid character? Always thought he was just a couple years younger than Joseph
considering joseph is either 18 or 17 from the start of part 2 to its end if smokey is supposed to be younger i always thought he was about 2 or 3 years younger which to many is still considered a kid. since if you aren't 18 or over you are still thought of as a kid . so him still being the kid side character despite him benig a teenager like joseph is still right in the words of Obi-wan "from a certain point of view"

I'm pretty sure Merlai is her last name because in Japanese the last name is first. So Merlai Anne would be Anne Merlai in English
@@davedog0984 It possibly could be; but for non Japanese names, its usually first name then last name.

Anne's stand would obviously be smooth criminal...
Yes, that would've been dope
Haven't even gotten in a minute but I fully agree. I was so confused when she like, completely disappears basically. Thought there would be more
Unfortunately, her removal does make sense.
It would of been kinda cool to see just a reference in pt 4 as a subtle reference like smokey was referenced in the new york magazine in pt 3.
ok now I want Hamon Beat to cover every horror movie reference in Part 3
I say her her stand would be one of the 4 minor arcanas. Cups, wands, swords, or pentacles.
cups because jotaro felt her up that one time
@@Seinsmelled heh
@@RotaAbyssianthat would be a really nice idea, I wish that was the case now

Karera was even more wasted. She never even came back (despite promising to do so).
Anne crawled so Hayato can run is how i view it.

This is a really interesting concept where araki legitimately says if I were doing something different today I would do x
I think it'd be a pretty fascinating video series if you compiled the. like araki forgot but instead call it like araki regrets
Of course none of that ever happened, but it's still fun to imagine what could've been
0:00 for the realest hamon beatists
I've been a Jojo fan for years and it took until reading the title of this video for me to realize she had a first name.

Fugo should definitely get a video, there is a story we never got for him that was scrapped.
Definitely felt like Araki had something planned for her but midway through he changed his mind
She has a last name? I only knew that her name was Anne
I'd say Shizuka was more wasted potential considering she's seemingly living with the Jojo's now
It would've been nice to see Shizuka grow up into an Ally in Stone Ocean, but I'd say due to how it was structured she could only really fit in with the Group after Jolyne left prison. I doubt she could get into prison without the help of the Speedwagon foundation, and even then it'd take a while. She can't come into the C-moon fight with Jotaro because there's barely any room to develop her as a character.
I still pray for a Shizuka spinoff though.

Knowing that Araki would give Anne a Stand if he could do Stardust Crusaders over, the question then follows “What kind of Stand?”
Feels like part 3 has enough attack oriented stands, so maybe Anne could get a support Stand.
Thanks for answering the question! I figured there wasn’t anything major in the series you disliked, but I was kinda curious regardless
only the real OGs remember when she didn't have a name
That shower scene made me more uncomfortable than the Hayato bath scene
Yeah that's the point, it's supposed to be
That was the point. Orangutans can be nasty.
Wake up honey hammy beat has uploaded again😔
Anne walked so Hayato and Emporio can run
I honestly feel like Anne is the early version of Trish. Her main story at first is them delivering her to her father.
The missed potential to give her a stand I feel was reclaimed in Trish.
Honestly, IMO i’m glad she didn’t stick around considering of the aftermath.
My headcanon is after experiencing all the crazy stuff with the crusaders she grew up and became a paranormal investigator.
I would’ve had her show up later in Stone Ocean and have her be a contact via the Speedwagon foundation to help that crew.
Me and my friend have been watching jojos on the weekends and he was talking about how he wished how Ann would of stayed and I think it was kinda cool that a day after that this video came out
I don't know why, but i like her. Sure, she wasn't helpful that much compared with Hayato or Emporio. But it's funny how she is come and go.
Her stand could have been "Snowbird" after Canadian singer Anne Murray's 70's song.
I like to imagine part of her spirit was inherited by Hayato. A non-Stand User helping in a battle that they KNOW is going on, but can't see, and they're still giving it their all and display fantastic courage.
Honestly, I was expecting her to pop up eventually
After I got to part 6, I realized she's probably never coming back XD
Even though, Anne was a minor character, glad that she wasn't treated like a plot device. Unlike, Tsumiki Fushiguro(Jujutsu Kaisen), she got a nice conclusion.
I still don't understand. Was it ever explained past "that demon lady stole her identity"?
Touching on underrated characters, I’d really like to show some love to Mountain Tim from Part 7
From my understanding, many readers of the part overlook him and his stand because he’s introduced as this a law-abiding cowboy that just wants to do just right and getting fooled by The Boom Boom Family’s disguise, while our main protagonists Johnny and Gyro are given a more unique characterization for main characters compared to the leading members of other parts. While both are generally good natured, Johnny was shown to be incredibly desperate given the events prior to the story, and Gyro was very standoffish and cold, leading to a combination that overshadowed a seemingly one-note character in Mountain Tim
To top it off, Mountain Tim get’s taken out of commission the immediate next fight by Oyecomova, and only comes back much later just to be taken out of the part again.
But alas, Mountain Tim and Oh Lonesome Me will never get more use than what’s already been seen (unless the anime adds in an extra scene like what was shown off in this video but I doubt it)
See you earth cowboy.
I think aging anne up to the same as one of the crusaders and giving her a stand like araki mentioned would fix a ton of issues and would even make episodes like Strength more reccomendable. I wonder if she could even work as a genuine love interest for Jotaro ( before anyone says this is childish, they literally did this in part 1 and 2.)
But as a mangaka, you dont often have a lot of time.

I'm not sure if it was ever mentioned but I think the Wheel of Fortune arc was a partial reference to the 1971 film "Duel", especially with the bar scene and the gesture to pass scene
(Kakyoin was relatively unaffected)
I personally liked the "invincible" group more and as such liked Annes role in the story. Not as character, but as a plotdevice. But I also get that that would've been even more difficult to implement later on.
My favorite underrated character was that guy that ate the cat corpse at the end of part 3
sadly jojo has quite a few characters who feel 'wasted', at least that;s how it feels for some. Particularly in Part 8.
For real

No. Gross bitch.
@@PosiWritesStories I don't think "knowing her since she was a child" really has any meaning after said child becomes an adult.
Childhood friends sometimes know each other since they were even younger than that, and it's a very common romance trope
I could totally see Anne being a stand user. Imagine in a world where that existed...
Lucy Steel is fantastic as a character, no questions. But her age also makes other stuff so so problematic
This would require foreknowledge of later ideas, but have her get a stand arrow used on her and implanted with a flesh bud to be used against the heroes,
She then uses herself as a hostage by pretending that her stand isn't hers the heroes figure it out save her and boom now she's got a stand and a personal stake in the story,
it'd be really fun seeing anne be a knife wielding badass normal who helped fight stand users using only her sass and her knife.
It's not very foten we see a non stand user deal with one.
i firmly believe that shizuka was a wasted main character for a part
If Anne was a full time member of the crusaders, it would be cool for her to get a stand and she could totally have a major part in part 4
Underrated character for sure. Would have been nice to see her continue adventuring together.
