    White Snake being a visible Stand makes perfect sense when you realize it’s also an alias for Puuci to give Stand discs to non-users in order to recruit them. If people couldn’t see or hear it this would be a risky process for Puuci himself. It also explains why Puuci orders White Snake so much rather than just acting through it, as though it’s a separate entity he’s controlling.

      I think that it might come from horror stories elsewhere in the industry. Akira Toriyama's editor for Dragon Ball Z comes to mind as a famous case of the editor being way too critical and way too nit-picky about the author's work. Akira Toriyama famously had troubles with his editor, particularly during the Cell Saga of Z. His editor was quoted as not liking Andriod 19 and Doctor Gero as the new antagonist, then criticized Androids 17 and 18 for being some stupid kids with superpowers, then I believe he criticized all of Cell's designs until Perfect Cell.
      Seeing that ordeal for one of the better-liked authors in the manga industry just makes a lot of people assume that the editors are these micro-managing, harsh, and destructive forces in a writer's team that just forces them to do stuff they don't want to do because it doesn't suit their taste, or they think that the fans wouldn't like something, even though they probably aren't fans of the material themselves.
      But I'm glad to hear that Araki had a good relationship with his editor. It sounds and looks like Araki had a lot of freedom to make the series as "bizarre" as he saw fit. And I don't think the series would be the way that it is if the editor had exercised that kind of control over the series.

    Firstly I find it weird how hellbend some people are when it comes to Araki Forgot, so much so that they even accuse him of lying in interviews to cover his tracks.
    Like why would he do that?
    He himself is honest about his work and doesn't really seem to care about his image so the idea that he would lie just because of a "forgotten" detail or a plot hole is just ludicrous to me.
    Also in regards to the Pucci question, I think they meant to ask why Pucci wasn't in Egypt during Part 3 to help DIO.
    Which the simple explanation being that DIO probably wanted him to work on the Heaven Plan instead since he viewed it as more important than stopping the Joestars who he through he could defeat himself.

    With the part about Jotaro and DIO not saying their Stand names all the time, the evocation of it is more than just a Shonen trope (or, at the very least, used to be). Most of the Shonen series to initially utilise this trope such as Kinnikuman, Hokuto no Ken, Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya drew from traditional Japanese martial arts philosophies of which include vocalising your intent through a kiai to make one's strike more potent. JoJo is no different, with Hamon drawing from traditional breathing techniques in martial arts and Stands being an extension of Hamon in some ways. In other words, characters saying their Stand's name when summoning it is primarily an affirmation of how determined they are to succeed with it.

    I think that the working of Crazy Diamond can be explained by considering something being fixed as "functional"
    The difference between the button and the bolts is that Josuke *didn't* actually fix the bolts: he fixed the pipes.
    Since the bolts are a necessary part for the pipes to be functional, they went back to place.
    The button by itself doesn't need the specific jacket to be "functional".
    I think that if Josuke hit the jacket itself the button would have come back together, because it's the former which *needs* the latter, not the reverse

      It also makes more sense when you consider how nuts and bolts actually work: by being screwed together. Under most circumstances this is impossible to see with the naked eye, but this action of metal rubbing against metal actually scratches
      -and thus damages-the metal, and the result is tiny particles of residue being left behind. My hypothesis is that Crazy Diamond is actually just repairing the nuts and bolts by bringing them to the residue left on each other and in the pipes (as well as the similar traces of pipe left on the building and vice versa).

      1. If nothing outside of gravity is affecting any of the pieces (so no one is grabbing it and it’s not buried in the ground or stuck in a wall), the heaviest/largest piece is the part that doesn’t move.
      2. If one or more pieces are being prevented from moving by something else holding onto it or something, the most held-in-place part is what stays in place even if it is not the largest part.
      Putting it another way, his ability takes the easiest way out and moves whatever is easiest to move.
      So, with Kira, nothing was holding his hand in place, so the hand moved to the rest of Kira’s body (since the body is heavier and larger than the hand), but with Okuyasu, his hand was being held in place, so Okuyasu was dragged towards his hand.

    On the subject of characters shouting the names of their Stands: obviously that exists as a trope in anime and manga in general and well predates JoJo, however I will add that after the ending of the Part V anime and deciding to read the Stone Ocean manga (that being probably one of the first manga I'd read, that or Chainsaw Man, I can't quite remember which), I found that them exclaiming the names of their abilities made it much easier to make sense of the action in certain scenarios where it may not have been as obvious what was going on without it, especially when one considers how esoteric some Stand abilities can be - seeing a character shout their ability followed by a still image of a strange effect or set of actions not logically set up hitherto (they are ghostly projections) helps link it in the reader's mind as a cause to effect - as, in animated media action can be shown more clearly through typical progression of movement, a manga or graphic novel doesn't have the same advantage, and so active progression of movement and action needs a bit more of a clever execution behind it to help make it apparent.
    Also, I will add that the trope somewhat exist in Western media as well, typically in the form of a wizard shouting out the name of a spell to cast it, followed by the same fact that more advanced wizards don't need to say the name of the spell.

You can still be conscious during timestop if you just have timestop ability, like a small passive bonus added to an active ability. You can press this ability in any time to apply the buff. You can move in stopped time only if you have the buff. So if someone stops time just after you just stopped it yourself, the ability is in the cooldown (your stand lost its stamina to move you in the timestop) and you cannot apply the buff to move in the stopped time, while that said someone else can

    • @mrreyes5004
      @mrreyes5004 Год назад +9

      Agreed. It's easy to think of Stands as just entities made of energy that users can summon, but it's really more complicated and nuanced than that. @liquidalumina7141 Год назад

      Stands seem to be mostly described either as psychic abilities or somewhat of an extension of yourself, which I think makes sense by looking at how you gain a stand in the first place, the natural way is awakening your stand ability out of necessity, like with characters like Tonio or Aya, who developed their stands by mastering a craft, there's also the heritage thing, which I think is pretty much the same as inheriting any other ability from your relatives, like the son of a good cook having some natural ability with cooking, ironically the most artificial way to obtain a stand would be the arrow, tho it's not far from the traditional way to get it, since the arrow basically puts your life at risk, forcing your body to develop a stand ability to survive, again out of necessity, it's very interesting to think about it

    • @GBDupree
      @GBDupree Год назад

      Except Giorno doesn't need GE's form to bring life to things either, he uses his own hands to activate his ability, but that GE counts as an extension to his own hands. Stands are essentially extensions of the user, which is why they are stronger the closer they are to the user, since they are closer to just being the user using their own limbs. This isn't the same for every stand of course. But most all abilities don't require a form to function, but users will still manifest a form anyways because why not, it's useful. Like your soul is already in the form of your body and the stand ability is already a part of your soul, it should be simple to make it take that form.

The one about Dio's time stop and Vanilla Ice's vampirification was definitely from someone skimming or not understanding it in their read. Araki loves to have his characters explain - sometimes in the form of "tell more than show." Polnareff smack talks Vanilla Ice for becoming a vampire by taking Dio's blood (as well as going wild) and Jotaro himself talks about stopping time at the last second.
    This is a good (if not one of the best) manga. Skim at your own peril.
