    I like OBS Fords also! I own a 1989 F250 XLT Lariat that I put a complete 6" Skyjacker F350 suspension under, 95 F350 Kingpin solid front axel and a 96 limited slip F350 rear axel. 4:10 gearing and 37" 16.5 Wrangler Military tires and Mickey Thompson wheels. Its 2 tone brown. Love my truck 🙂

      Nothing would happen. Would basically shut off. You want no octain rating. Not a super high octain rating. The nitro would not combust. Now if you missed it into the engine while running is a different story. Like a water meth kit!!!

    If you pause at 19:38... If that bracket does end up moving on you in the future. A really simple way to fix it is to cut a notch at the very rear of the bracket so that it lines up with that rib on the trans-- and then slightly bend the end of that bracket so that it can no longer pivot on that single mounting bolt. So then when you try to shift, it can't pivot, since the bracket is basically hooked to that rib in the trans. Or you could just weld a couple of tabs there, on top and bottom of the rib; which you could later cut off again if you wanted to switch it all back.

    One idea for a truck with only a 4 speed if it has a turbo is to raise the axle ratio to like 3.08 or 3.27. OD in a ZF is like 0.76 so you figure if you had 4.10s with the ZF-5 top gear would be similar to 3.08s in direct drive 4th. You still have a nice short 1st in the 4speed to get you off the line from there 2nd will be like going from 1st to 3rd with a ZF then 3rd and 4th will be closer ratios once you wind it up. I am guessing that as long as you have a turbo that gap between 1st and 2nd won't be so horrible and at least you're not moving too quickly yet and there is less resistance to overcome. Once it's rolling along at a good clip the 3.08s will probably feel pretty good, maybe 3.27s would be a slightly better if a few hundred more RPMs on the highway is tolerable to you compared to a ZF-5, if you have tall enough tires like he was saying, 38s with 3.55s would probably be ok with the 4 speed.

    I had an 86’ F350 4x4 with a Banks Turbo. When I wanted to do the 4sp to ZF swap there were a couple of snags. You have to use the Diesel ZF because of the ratios. Banks wanted more for the Turbo mount and down pipe than I paid for the turbo kit and exhaust system. I ended up not doing the swap but put 325k miles on it before I sold it. I mainly towed with it so the top speed really wasn’t an issue.

      Diesel s-47 zf'5s supposedly get slightly lower first gear and higher torque rating, and like he said electronic vs cable speedometer stuff. otherwise all the 7.3 zf-5s are basically interchangeable.
      An IDI Will likely never break either version, unless someone was just being super stupid with it., a power stroke 7.3 can break an s-42 of leaned on too hard.

    I love the bullnose my favorite. I had a 1986 F350 4 door with an 8" bed single wheel. With a 6.9 and a C6 no OD 3.55 gears and 185/75/16 tires. I could do 55 loaded or empty up hill and on the flat. It had half a million miles when I bought it and drove it till the body fell off. I have a bull nose now a1988 ext Cab F250 4×4 with the 5speed and 4;10 diffs and the 7.3IDI. even with 33" tires 65 is it. I love that truck also it's so comfortable and easy to drive. But hard as hell on fuel. I have another 82 F250 that has 8 hole hubs but not floating axles and 3;00 gears. I think they would raise my fuel mileage considerably. But at the cost of all of that pulling torque.

It ran 70mph at 2600. So I fixed that by put a second transmission out of a c60 in backwards. Now I run 80mph at 1600 with the zf5 in 4th and the rear transmission in 3rd

  • @4460cows
    @4460cows Год назад +1

    I got a 94 7.3 I.D.I. Turbo with 300K on the engine but the Transmission is the Automatic ED04 which I am on my 3rd rebuild on and currently became a 3 speed manual matic. Lost the electronic overdrive and the transmission will only work if you manual bump up each gear so highway speeds is more like what you had back when you left college during finals week. Kinda getting tired of getting the auto trans rebuild which has not even always made warranty. I think the engine has too much power for this transmission. I just pulled all the original injectors because started getting diesel into the oil pan overfilling the engine. The factory dual tank fuel selector valve stopped working right smack in the middle of both tanks so got no fuel. Pulled that off the truck and took apart the valve to see if I could just clean it up and sure enough the valve selection mechanism were stuck. Cleaned them up with WD-40 and got the valves working again. So remounted up on the frame railing and hooked up all the lines. Test the dash board switch and fired up the truck. Got the fuel gauge to work again guess the resistance got so high it showed both tanks way over full. Next rebuilding all the soft lines and found that the two Tee-Cups on these stock Turbo I.D.I. are not part of the Standard rebuild kit also the 7 cylinder tee-cup is a single end of line not included and also not available at Ford. Think today found a dealer on the east coast that has one in stock so can't wait to finish up the build on the soft lines. My hard lines were all really good still and so is the injector pump. I have really enjoyed watching you in action on the Heavy D channel and also have enjoyed watching your Dad's channel at his mountain house labs. We can relate as we lost in fire this year. Beautiful old 3 story barn built back in the late 1800'S due to a fire which we lost 2 barns and 40 acres of forest lands. But air drops saved the homes and surrounding out buildings along with some closer neighbors properties.

    • @hendo337
      @hendo337 Год назад +1

      Just lower your axle ratio to like 3.08s or 3.27s that'll drop your highway RPMs nicely. Be similar to 4.10s in 5th with a ZF-5, you'll have a big gap between 1st and 2nd, will feel like going 1st to 3rd with a ZF-5 once she is wound up 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th will be like 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th with a ZF-5. If it's a 4x4 the tall gears won't be such a big deal really either since you have low range for situations when you need closer gearing. If it's 2wd than it really shouldn't be such a big deal since these trucks aren't fast anyway. A home brew turbo system will really make the tall gears not feel so bad since you'll have the extra TQ and boost to aid with hills and acceleration.

    I disagree entirely, Bullnoses are plenty useful on the highway. The diesel-spec T-19 has a low enough first gear, the diffs can be geared taller to support highway driving without losing pulling power. I have a deep-seeded, sincere hatred for the ZF5 so I deal with the 2700@70 revs.

    Just bought a 83 6.9 idi with a banks sidewinder turbo kit on it but the drain pipe is leaking what would be a good fix for that and it's leaking coolant from behind the turbo where could that be coming from
