If you have been the Dragon Ball Super Manga and Chapter 78, you might realise that things are starting to get rather compelling with Granolah and Gas as well as the Granolah the Survivor Arc as a whole. One of the best Dragon Ball Super arcs? With Bardock showing his true colours against Elec and the Heeters, this arc is starting to prove itself to be a candidate for the best arc in Dragon Ball Super, not only for its action but also in its mystery and storytelling. This could be better than Goku Black, the Tournament of Power and even the Moro saga. On top of that, Ultra Ego Vegeta is a tour de force and Goku not getting in the way. There is a lot to like here. Here's why we like it!

Excellent video as always. I think Oatmeal still has a big part to play and I think a 2nd wish for the location of the super dragon balls is to be considered. Elec has the perfect distraction for an escape which would complete his assumed betrayal. Something bigger is coming I have a feeling.
The actual thing in my opinion that will save Dragon Ball Super is getting rid of these dragon balls. It has been the worst and most contrived plot device EVER PUT into dragon ball. 2 dragon balls that can turn ANYONE in the strongest warrior in the Universe? Its stupid and the trade off of shortening your life or whatever else you can do to get that kind of power doesn't matter because its a STUPID plot device. They need to explain WHO created these dragon balls,HOW they are so powerful and WHY it only takes 2 balls. This dragon and these dragon balls need to be DESTROYED by the end of this arc.
I really do feel like you saying that this arc is compelling and one of the best arcs is SUPER COPIUM. Ive grown up with and loved dragon ball for years, but dragon ball fans love to inhale massive amounts of COPIUM. The cerelian dragon is a stupid and lazy plot device just to make characters strong enough to fight goku and vegeta beacuse they are so strong now. Instead of writing an actual interesting villian and compelling characters, they chose to be INCREDIBLY lazy.
Also why is no one questioning who created this dragon. A dragon cannot grant wishes that exceed its creators power. So who created these dragon balls who is apparently so strong that he can grant wishes that can create the strongest warriors in the Universe?
@@David-jq7wr Indeed. Monaito didn't create Toronbo. He is the caretaker of it. However, this Dragon Ball probably has a relatively low bar for "free" wishes. After a certain point, you need to trade something. But yeah...it won't be around long. Monaito will pass on in this saga and that will make the balls inert.
Gas using weapons against Goku was the best scene on Granolah arc and it's refreshing to see a powerful combatant who uses weapons and switches them on a fly, making him very versatile.
I hope we get more Ki weapon opponents for the group to face; it's honestly interesting and I would LOVE to see Gas in DBF!
Agreed. I suspect the use of weapons was why they (the artist) made Gas taller post-wish.

I'm all for new villains not being generic punch-fighters. Moro turning into one was disappointing since he was more intimidating as an old wizard
I always enjoyed Goku being the strong and tactful type of character, so him not having what feels like a negative IQ for the sake of entertainment in this saga looks very good.
I also like that we got little bits of additional information regarding Bardock, because having Goku learn more about his family or his race in general is nice as well. And Vegeta finally getting something good that's unique to him is brilliant. I like it when he doesn't have to play catch-up or second fiddle to Goku.
Give it a little longer. Gokus gonna do something absolutely stupid again, they can’t let us enjoy a “smart” Goku for long periods of time.
Getting our hopes up about the goku issue in both medias is really risky imao
That was only in the anime, in the manga he isn't nearly as bad
Granolah is a redeemable Vegeta and Gas is the unredeemable version of Vegeta
The respect Vegeta has been getting lately is making me feel rejoiced

@@AiresLA Of all the poorly written characters, Vegeta usually has some degree of decent writing. At worse, Vegeta is a likeable character. Compared to Goku who can borderline on unlikeable in DBS

Its 100% not the best arc, in fact, its actually terrible. While there may be some cool lore with bardock and other things, it doesnt change the fact that the cerelian dragon is STUPID. Why can these dragon balls make ANYONE the STRONGEST WARRIOR IN THE UNIVERSE AND you only need 2 of them? Its so stupid and just a contrived plot point because Goku and Vegeta are so strong now in the story, how could they introduce characters that could even remotely challenge them, besides just creating a new dragon that can make ANYONE the strongest. Its dumb, its stupid, and this dragon needs to be DELETED by the end of this arc and actually write a cool and interesting character. Maybe a villian from Universe 7 or another Universe that has actually trained his entire life for the power he has. Imagine a Goku like character excpect that he is a villian, and has beaten every good guy that has ever tried to take him down, because he actually trained. That would be amazing.
Vegeta is being the GOAT of this arc and I, as a huge fan of his majesty, I'm enjoying the ride

I like this arc because Goku isn’t like the main focus and he was like the voice of reason of the arc. I really love the fact Goku and vegeta realizes this isn’t their fight.
I like how it actually feels like a meaningful continuation of the whole story and Vegetas arc while other arcs seem so seperated from the rest of DB. Also the dialogues seem smarter somehow
This is definitely without question Dragon Ball Supers best arc so far, if this arc ends well or transitions well into another arc or the next DBS movie then it will be the next best DB arc since the Android arc imo

I feel bad for whoever is waiting for the anime, dude. It's gonna take FOREVER, even if they start it tomorrow they have to get through the ENTIRE Morro arc (and maybe Broly assuming they wanna do a recap arc for that).
We all know they will recap the Broly movie as an arc if the anime ever comes back.
They recaped the two movies to make them cannon but the broly movie is already cannon

Regardless thats how all animes are going to be now their going to recap canon movies like boruto where they recap the whole momoshiki movie into an arc. So u best believe broly will most likely get a recap just like bog and rof. Mind u broly movie was supposed to be a 3 hour film. They literally had to cut half of the script just to fit it in the movie i doubt they wont use that extra script for the anime
The anime is mainly based off of the manga and seeing that toyotarou didn't make the broly arc, chances are the broly arc will not be retold in the anime or at least it's what i'm thinking.

I am absolutely loving this arc. I like that the focus is on the characters, their motivations, and the things they struggle with. Granolah encapsulates this incredibly well. He's a victim of the heeters, Freeza, and saiyans; as such he's blinded by hatred and a thirst for revenge, so much so that he nearly became what he despises. And like what you touched on, he's like a blend of both Goku and Vegeta
In the Moro Arc, he stopped it from being all Goku Time by helping and playing a major role instead of a side support anyone/everyone could've done
In the Granola Arc, he's stopping Goku from getting another W by having a new character get the W and giving plot/reasons as to why Granola has to fight and must win
The most important part of this arc is that people are finally coming into Toyotarou's corner and talking about the manga, which believe it or not, he will know about and the things people like about this arc will be done more in the future because he's finally found his footing in perhaps the heaviest boots that an aspiring mangaka could be given, the keys to the grandfather of Shounen.
Seriously tho, I'm loving how the heeter clan is like the opposite of the freezer clan, opposite of cold stuff, have a good feeling these people are gunna reignite a flame for Dragon ball, nudge nudge wink wink, imagine fighting as gas in db fighterz lol I mean cmon so cool can't even hate'em.

@@kingkurok3149 it took awhile for a Canon continuation to the zip anime/Manga I'll give it a 2 to 3 years before it's animated so there more things to animate they have something to cost iff
It is so heartening to hear others picking up on the same things in these chapters. Vegeta is absolutely a parallel to Granolah, and if that wasn't obvious as hell in chapters 74, 75, and 76, it is undeniable by chapter 78.
Goku IS INDEED the supporting characters in this arc, but it didn't begin there. Goku in the Zamsu arc is like Mad Max in Fury Road: He defines the world, but the story is no longer about him. He's our guide, and his "side kick" - Imperator Furiosa (Vegeta) - is who the story is really about. The Zamasu arc is ALL about Vegeta and the family he left behind on an alternate timeline. It still blows me away just how different the manga is from the anime adaptation. I can see why the changes were made though. After all, Goku's the main character. ;)
I love that you saw that about Gas and his stewing envy and competitiveness towards Granolah: Is IS yet another strong parallel to Vegeta's animosity for Goku. Sheesh. Granola Vs Gas could almost be Good Vegeta VS Evil Vegeta.
The straight up punchy-punchy is exactly why I couldn't get into Dragon Ball Heroes or GT. They lack the heart and character development that DBZ had. This may be surprising, but I didn't get into DBZ for the fights. I got into it for the characters, and the reason I enjoyed Z is why I'm now enjoying DBS.
I would love to see, as has been discussed in the video and got me hyped out of my mind, more parallel character development from long time main stays of the series. I hope Freeza has a more in depth role in the end of the story when it comes to a parallel in Elec. Vegeta has his parallels in both Granola and Gas at this point. To see Freeza get some more development like he did in the tournament of power and in Super: Broly would be astounding. Not that I would like to see Freeza become wholly good but to see him change his methods and be more willing to work alongside Goku and the other inhabitants of univers 7 would be incredible to see. It seems for development Freeza has already taken to heart the honesty Goku has as a character even all the way back in the namek saga. And as Freeza interacts more and more with Goku as a warped mirror of the saiyan race as a whole it would be interesting to see Goku or Whis or even Vegeta ask Freeza for help when it comes to the situation they are currently in. Allowing Granola to understand how the world truly works without Elec withholding information and allowing Freeza, in the end, to do some good for the universe as a whole even if it is only a means of pursuing his own goals by eliminating an interloper like Elec from trading in information.
The way every major character here is connected really gives off the feeling that everything in the series has been leading up to this, something we haven't felt since Frieza. This truly feels like a fateful encounter, not some new strong guy showing up.
I think that's what the Moro arc was trying to do, by making Moro an ancient threat connected to the Kais. But it's harder to believe this character has always existed in the DB universe compared to Granolah and the Heaters.
gas almost assuredly had his lifespan cut like Granolah. Gas got taller because it aged him, like how Granolah's hair grew out.
I think the other guy got his lifespan cut because he's the one that made the wish.

The titles of strongest , second stronges are just valid for a moment of time . Once the moment passes , it's history. That's what I love about fighting . The outcome is never set in stone.

One thing Dragonball has always been good at is Yes giving fans what they want, but also subverting expectations in such a refreshing way, but all the stories work on a level where it isnt total fan service levels (Thats what you go to heroes for)

Are we getting close to the end of the arc? It seems like Elec has a much larger scheme in mind, and powering up Gas was the first step. Gas just has to take out these pesky Saiyans and Granolah and then the real work can begin....taking out Freiza.
I mean if they end the thing with Gas and you know.... Goku didnt get a new form for a while..... And he wont be stealing the show if Gas is taken care of....
Yes we are. They stated the arc is ending in 2022 and a new arc (likely bigger than this arc similarly to the android saga and cell arc) will start up start up straight after the end of this arc

Ever since diving into the manga up to this point, yeah, I can say that I've enjoyed the arc up to this point. Even within Dragon Ball, I've always been a sucker for how character interaction plays off of one-another and how it enhances scenarios at their core. I can say with honesty and excitement that just my time with the manga as a whole has reinvigorated me as a Dragon Ball fan, and I can't wait till next month's chapter~
I feel like because there is no set deadline (like the anime), they are not rushing these stories and are actually planning far ahead.
I'm just wondering if Frieza's gonna show up since the Heeters kinda have it out for the evil emperor.
Tbh I wouldn't mind the rest of the Heeters getting knocked down a few pegs by Frieza.

I know some people despise this arc but I really like this arc. I actually like every arc cuz they have a different taste to it which tastes good. Some are spicy while some are cold. But to me it's still great. I also really liked the Moro arc as a whole and I definitely am liking the granolah arc as well.

Honestly the character-driven approach to this story is fcking awesome and I hope it becomes more of a standard for Dragon Ball. I'm genuinely invested in Granolah, which I wasn't sure was going to happen at first, and I can't wait to see it animated.
Honestly relegating Goku and Vegeta to supporting and focusing on another group that still takes place in the main continuity is what the series needs to grow

Man.. was the Buu arc the smartest Goku ever was? All the over arcs he just acts like a sledgehammer, even in Cell. Though the TFS twist making Goku plan everything out was darkly hilarious
In the Buu saga, Goku acts like a true leader relative to previous arcs and in Super mostly. However, in this arc, Goku has been really well written!

I enjoyed the Galactic Patrol arc as whole but this current Granola The Survivor arc is honestly far better and I hope to see it animated in the near future

vegetas development has been phenomal after the ToP and seeing a lot less of stupid super goku is great cos goku aint stupid in the original manga when hes an adult

For me this is the first arc to really feel like prime DBZ like the android saga. It's not just Goku and Vegeta (they are in it a lot) but the other characters taking the spotlight, with lots of other story building going on around them. It's the best Super has offered and i hope they continue down this route!

I have an interesting theory, what if elec gave his own life force to the dragon to fuel the wish, and then gas just goes out of control without elec to keep him in line
I feel that you could have taken away Oil from this arc, Maki or Gas doing the few things Oil did would tight things up much better. That can be changed in the anime though, making Oil a more remembered character with better traits than just being big and "strong" minion while not even being the actual strongest one (Gas) or the most resourceful minion (Maki). I think the reason Oil exists is because if the Heeters were just 3 people, psychologically it feels that all are much more important figures while 4 starts to be an actual "clan" or group and are not equally valued.
True but perhaps he ends up being the one that turns or tries to revolt. That'd be a shocker.
Oil and Maki are the less serious ones in the group the duo for comedy
Yeah, I feel his main contribution is to be a peer with Maki and to make up numbers that strengthen the feeling of making a legitimately cool organization; which by the way is absolutely fine. Not every character necessarily needs to be deep, involved e.t.c. Sometimes characters are around to ask questions, which given Elec doesn't demonstrate any physical capabilities helps establish his seniority further. After all, he's in charge of multiple people now who legitimately respect him enough to call him leader.
Makes me wonder what Elec's deal really is though. I know his ideal is being the smart one; but would it all be over if Gas fell at this point? I don't know. Like Yagami Light he seems to want the power without the accountability of a shortened lifespan, or is he just hedging his bets to see whether he can hop up over both of them and become "the strongest", though the latter of which seems unlikely.

Even given that it could be another show of mercy given that Goku knows he can actually defeat Moro, what good was giving Moro another chance going to do? The only good thing to come out of that was that Vegeta was instrumental to defeating all forms of Moro when he had the chance and that Uub appeared, justifying Goku training Uub if whatever happened in Z wasn’t enough. And those are purely meta concerns based on worse trends that Super has taken up to the end of the Moro arc.

Maybe Gas'll turn good, realizing Elec doesn't care about him, however I do wonder what happened to make the Heeters, well them. Their origin might be explained and I'd love to see it if it comes to pass. Gas doesn't have eyebrows or a nose so presumably he's a mutant among whatever race the Heeters come from. I also hope to see OG 73 come back, maybe Gas absorbing him or him being used for the next arc.
this dragon is not more powerful, for pete's sake Monaito is weaker then freaking dende. this is just the first time someone refused to change their wish after they were told it was beyond the dragon's power to grant. shenron and porunga could both grant granolah's wish and potentially not even require a sacrifice in exchange or at the very least not as big of a sacrifice. super shenron definitely could grant the wish with out the cost and potentially could give you power beyond the gods witch was the other caveat to granolah's wish.
I am loving the more character driven story in this arc. Vegeta see his younger self in Granola and trying to help him by giving him the Sensu Bean was the best part of the story so far.
I think what’s eleks part after the wish is a question we gotta ask.
Also I think this maybe setting up superhero by showing us how a story could be with goku and vegeta playing background roles

I love the world building in this saga. I always wanted more info of stuff going on in space glad we got t. I hope the next arc gives us even more details of dragon balls space.

I’ve only really picked up the manga recently but I really love this arc. However since I’m a major Goku fanboy, I’m really hoping that the revelations about Bardock will lead to Goku being more introspective about his past for the next arc and lead to him finally biting the bullet and going off to actually try and meet his parents, hell they could make it a family outing. Give Chi-chi, Goten, and Gohan some more character development.
Oatmeel in OG-73 body coming in to help saving the day in the final all out battle the only thing I'm hoping for at this time.
Massako you missed also a very important point, they need to reveal the mistery from what universe or dimension the namekian race came and how created the super dragon ball hopefully it will be reveal fully or partially in this arc

My only real problem with this archive is the "Ultra Ego" transformation... or more specifically, the name. The concept is fine, it's like instant zenkai (or however its spelled) boost which works perfect for a saiyan

It's a good arc don't get me wrong but I don't know about the "best arc in dbs" and I think vegeta & Granolah will defeat some secondary villain but it would be goku how will defeat the main one by using ui notice how they don't using ui instead goku use ssj blue everytime it's db formula
But Gokus been using UI. Just not the literal form. He had it paired with Blue for the fights.

I think a possible solution to the wish for gas would be that it maybe temporary. Like Elec not wanting him to be too strong for long.

I love that Dragonball is evolving with the times ya know. Like the punchy punchy is cool but we are adults now. We need substance depth motivation stakes. This arc is very much my favorite so far that super produced.
Feel like Elec would know when to fold 'em if Gas loses.

Something just came back to me. But what were the other questions Elec had the Heeters ask Zuno. No, there's still more to come
I imagine when all has ended, Gas is defeated, Freeza comes and slaughters the Heater gang.
I think maybe the wishes will have worse exceptions to agree with the shorter the wishes are from each other and how strong the wishes are. I think this would be good because the dragon has no time needed to be summoned, so it will bring more to the story.
Ok i have a theory for what Elec's wish could have been, I think maybe when bardok and Gas fought, the old namekian made a wish to weaken Gas which has made him stay in a short kid's form.
Maybe the dragon told Elect that , and Elec wished to undue the first one.
I gotta admit while I'd love getting more dope Freeza, cueballs gotta be real busy resetting up his empire after its decades of degradation and near total collapse.

Different, and I like that. Good different too, follows up on character which often feels like a half measure in dragonball outside of a exemplary examples like the oft lauded Piccolo and Vegeta. We've got new people that we really havent seen before as character types in DB, I guess Hits close to Granolah in job title but that's a big stretch. Gangsters, bounty hunters, a stranded namekian. I like it.

Honestly I caught up on the manga because of the What If Goku landed at Capsule Corp vids and i'm glad I did. This arc has been good in expanding the universe, like an apology for Shin's declaration of the universe being pathetic in the anime. 28 worlds....sigh... Side note, That what if saga is the most intriguing at the moment as it is looking like its going in a completely different direction than the original while keeping true to everything past and present.
I liked that Vegeta did not make it all about him and gave Granolah the senzu bean. Granolah look shocked that Vegeta was even considering giving him the last senzu bean. Can't wait for Dragon Ball Super Manga Chapter 79.
