    This video is actually really good. As a drummer, hearing him acknowledge the “4 Limbs” concept is awesome. I know that there are a lot of air drummer’s, this tip is crucial. Using your limbs while you play back MIDI, will help you realize if you are programming something actual humans can play. I do this every time I program drum tracks for my clients. Good job on the video, well done!

    Thank you for reminding me that I don't have to record everything live in one take because I somehow got into this framing and each time dealing with metal drums to create, I had to fight with my expectation of the exhausting process. Great channel!

      @@chrisbedan Have you tried the Novation Launchkey series? Wondering how important you feel the velocity sensitivity is for programming drums? I know the Akai has better sensitivity range than the launchkey mini in particular.

      @@Stu411 ya know, I haven’t!! But velocity is super important, to a point…. Usually you want consistency. But a TINY bit of variation, to keep that “human feel”. But a lot of that you can do manually inside your daw. I mainly used this way to get the notes in quickly. I changed up the way I do things now a bit, you can check it out in my past livestreams! It might be of interest to you

    I appreciate this unfortunately I had to sell my electric drum kit due to financial difficulties and purchased one of these drum pad / keyboards I’ve been writing all of my own music and this video has really helped in the sense of doing things one step at a time and not all at once

      @@chrisbedan actually yes a very simple one. I understand the basic technical drums stuff but I've never used a double pedal so I don't understand how to write it in ableton because of that 😅((I know you want us to experiment and I agree but I don't how they work)).

      @@awtriphop hopefully this link works. I did a “stock challenge” on ableton live to see if I can get a mix to sound good with the stock plugins. I think I might do another mix walkthrough once my bands single comes out!

    Great tips. Great tutorial. Just be sure to watch out for 3 hits at once, like the 2 crashes & a snare at the same time in your groove. Sure you already know this by now though.

    ❗️NOTE❗️I forgot to mention that I have my quantize settings set to about 85% accuracy to “Humanize” my quantization!

      I wanted to ask. If I do a fill that have 16th notes and also 1/8th notes but they’re gumbled in the same fill how do I go about quantizing that?

      @@cdawg-switchhitter2473 quantize the 16th and turns the snap grid off on your DAW and place the notes 1/8th where you believe they need to be.

      Also, I covered it a little bit inside of the “stock plugins” video I did a bit.
      But believe it or not the kick on the original song is the new Aggressive Rock pack kick! It has such a nice punch to it! The only thing I did was reduce around 6-8k to remove some of the “click” type sound!

    Just bought the cheapest guitar on the internet last night and decided to record some chugs (never had or played a guitar before) using iPad. So, iPad Logic Pro x drum pads on screen also did the trick! I have multiple midi controllers as well but this track I just wanted to do on iPad and guitar only. Anyways, my tip is that if you have an iPad, you also can record drums in the similar fashion. Cheers!

    Awesome vid man! But how did you map the kick to the keys tho? by default its on the pad but I want to change it to the keys like how you have it setup

      Hey brother!! if you head over to the settings tab in GGD you are able to map there. Click on the little red button and tab the key you want to map TWICE.

      Hey man, it’s honestly personal preference! There is an amazing hand drummer by the name of David Haynes, he uses the korg pads sometimes, and has the best dynamics!

      Apologies for the delay my friend.
      Honesty it’s personal preference. Sometimes I’ll start my riffs in clip view, then send it over to session view to finish it off!

    I'm in the process of upgrading my studio... I've been using kind of a daw less setup using a fractal fm3 into an mpcx. Last week I got an Asus rog zephyrus g14 and bought ableton live 11 suite. I'm trying to use my tube amps into a two notes torpedo live into a scarlet 18i8. When I record into the scarlet mono and I try to pan hard left or right I get this horrible digital static. Even when I use my keyboard out into my strymon pedals into the scarlet I get horrible static. It's like a stereo issue... any help would be appreciated
    I will say this though... I'm happy with ableton. I've used it in the past and it was cool but I decided to devote myself to one daw and so far ableton is exactly what I've been needing

    you wouldn't have a problem with latency in big DAW projects if you ditched the iMac and switched to a windows desktop that can be upgraded. ;)

    So this video gave me the confidence to go ahead and buy the keyboard, I’m now sitting in front of it with ezdrummer 2 connected to it but I can’t seem to figure out how you record each section over top one another without erasing the next one. Do you have all the channels separate?I’m using reaper. Can you please help me with this? Or just give me a clue on where to start. Please and thank you man.

      @@chrisbedan hey man. So I’m actually using reaper. Made the switch from pro tools a few weeks ago. I figure if you give me the general idea or how you do it in ableton I could transcribe that into reaper. Thanks so much for the speedy reply. I’m sitting here starting to feel a bit defeated

      @@cdawg-switchhitter2473 yeah man, I feel your pain. There’s always a process of figuring these things out.
      So Ableton has a feature where you are able to “overdub” your midi. I wonder if reaper has that same sort of setting.
      I’ll have to see what it’s called in Ableton.

      @@chrisbedan that’s exactly what it was man. You’re the man. Thank you so much. Reaper has just about everything I ever needed in pro tools. The only thing I like more was the trimming. But I’m all honest it makes it better because now I have to nail my parts no matter what instead of trimming the end of a guitar track for a half hour lmao. Seriously thanks again

    When i quantise though it never quantises accurately and puts so many of the notes in the wrong transients

      Hey man! sorry for the delay. sometimes this could be because of your quanitize settings. i usually have it on 1/16th. thats a good middle ground. however, if you have some faster parts it may be 1/32. i would experiment! let me know if this helps, my friend!
