About the hi hats and how they're mapped, it's worth noting that the f# is usually a closed hi hat hit with a stick, whereas the g# is a hi hat being closed with the foot pedal. A subtle difference, maybe, but a useful distinction.
Dom, I am sure you have achieved a lot in your life, but one of your greatest achievements is inspiring other musicians to dig deeper within our treasure and fall in love with music all over again. Thank you, brother. We appreciate you. ❤️
I’m one of the people that requested this, I thought it was going to be maschine or mpc styled finger drumming, but this is a whole new approach that I hadn’t even considered, thanks for sharing, you crushed it!
Dom, I have played keys and guitar for over 50 years, and programmed drums since the late 70's, but I never saw what fun it was to hand play all those drum notes even though I almost completely memorized GM. Until today. Thank-you so much! What a riot!
Totally awesome !.. Been struggling with drum programming ... and .. der ! never thought of learning finger drumming as a "craft" . And where the keyboard skills fall short ... I can fix it up in the DAW .. many thanks Dom
I have known that you could play great keyboard drums for 20 years, yet I have sat on my ass and only became a mediocre keyboard drummer. I know how it is done and now in my old middle age I am going to go ahead an become a bad ass. Practice, practice and copy from live and midi files. I need to follow my own advise.
Thank you Dom. Thank you for showing us ways to better create, practice, use the devices, software, & everything else I didn't mention . Following you inspires me. Thanks for all your suggestions, advice & sharing your knowledge. You are an awesome person.
Quick tip for the drummers transitioning to finger drumming: use the midi transformer plugin to change your sustain pedal to be your kick! When you want to edit you just apply the transformer template to your midi part in the logical editor to convert sustain to midi notes ;)
Thank you so much Dom ! I never thought I could become a drummer, but now thanks to you the dream comes true ! So useful, and the GM map is an incredible tip !
Wooww, this one just cracked my mind right open. I was hoping you could create a series that goes along the concepts step by step the same way you learned this skill. Your drumming is downright awesome man👌👌👌🙌
I was in a rut using ProTools and you convinced me to buy an upgrade for an old copy of Cubase. I remembered how creative I could get with it. It was my first DAW software. When I switched to ProTools to do recording for other artists, it sat unused for almost a decade. Going to have so much fun watching your videos and learning new tricks. It's like being young again. Cheers.
Brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing this technique. Not overstating it to say that this is a life changer. Have programmed some basic stuff from the keyboard but never even thought about upping my game and using the natural tapping rhythms in my fingers. This rhythm guitarist might just turn out to be a half-decent drummer!
Dom, I love you man, your enthusiasm is so infe3ctious, and its because of you i decided to get cubase in the first place, having been a Nuendo user back in Version 2 and 3 And then meandering since then on Live and then Logic briefly and then Presonus Studio One, and then predominantly on Reaper, before coming full circle and committing to Cubase 12 Pro I’m so happy i did, and your influence was so much of a contributing factor , and now Finger Drumming which is a dreaded territory for me, now seems like it is possible. God Bless You Dom, your a saint man
Hi Dom, i ever see a video that you made on this and it was very very Very Interesting, i can't wait to see this one. A big Big thank for all your amazing videos
That was some tight finger drumming there my dude! When I first started drumming on my keys I wld always play a more rock style kit even tho I wanted to play hip hop, it's like I wld have to force myself to slow down and not hit the snare every beat lol!
You got yourself a new subscriber. You know why? Because you are amazing! You explain everything step by step... smoothly and nice! Thank You, man. Greetings from Lisboa, Portugal
Dude.... Thank you so much for showing me everything about Cubase and everything.... I started 3 montths ago as a noob with it.. was totally overwelmed with the interface and here we are now.... Me having fun working with it.. You are a great inspiring teacher !
Awesome! Couldn't believe it when you started playing those double kicks on the synth keyboard! You say that anyone can do this, but you are massively talented!
You know so far you have the best lessons on this subject? YA! Thank you again. You just mentioned something very important, ... START SLOWLY. I started drumming at the age of 1964, and the drums burned in 1984. Yes 20 years experience on drums. I have never done this before, but, knowing what you've shown I can start my own beats for my songs. Now I'm ready to start my new project, putting finger-drumming rolling in my music. It's going to take some practice. Thanks again.
Thanks so much Gabriel! Yes, picking up speed is sooooo tempting! I had this habit when I was learning piano! Slow playing is key- train those muscles and their memory !
Hi I just want to say I go to the wayside chapel to do a music Jam night every Wednesday it is in kings cross Sydney Australia and someone donated a keyboard which has a selection of drum kits on it and I play the drum kits on the keyboard and thought I would find a video to learn how to do it properly so it sounds really cool when I play with the band😁 I just love your video
Og my gosh man. I know Ive said this before but I'll say it again. Your videos bring me joy Every Time. . So glad I get to do some binge watching to catch up🤙🏼👍🏼 keep it up
This was great. Plenty of talk about how to think like a keyboardist (repetitive note tips, etc). As a keyboard player I'd like some more tips about how to think like a drummer.
And? Already rockin'? I drum like this since the eightees! He let it look easy but you need the drum feel, without that you *ucked! And it takes at least a few months maybe years depending on your learning speed and skills!
@@Pauluz_The_Web_Gnome yeaa.. already rockin'!!!! Since he's a genius, he made it look easier!! I will study it from here, no matter how long it takes. And that's the joy of learning something new. If you've been drummin since 80's, that's none of my *ucking business!! This is how the Z GEN does things!! Take care GRANDPAAA!! Cheers!
This video blew my mind. I always thought the GM mapping was kind of weird, I never "got it". But now that you put it that way, it makes perfect sense. I was just looking for a drum pad controller for finger drumming, but having seen this, I might just end up sticking with the good ol' keyboard.... at least while I have no space for an e-drum set ;)
Hey Dom. Loved this lesson!! I honestly can't tell the difference so much sonically between you and a real drummer when you play. You ll put drummers out of business!😂 Wanted to ask...could you provide some lessons on various grooves and how you would use the proper fingerings. Eg Reggae, Funk, Samba, Hiphop. I feel it would be very helpful. Cheers!!
Fantastic Dom. This tutorial will be my intro to playing drums on the keyboard (I am a guitar player). Continue to make more video's. I learn a lot from you.
Thanks so much! For 30 years I wondered what's the proper way to play the keys with percussion symbols on my keyboard & none of my piano & drum teachers could teach me!
Been waiting for this video. Since back when you asked who wants a finger drum video. I'm using the Mx 49. I usually do simple grooves and layer things like symbols and fills because I can't play it like a real drum kit. With your tips and hand positions for hi hat and ride. Things should be easier. Awesome video.
Yes !!! Superb! More than I expected! Fingering the drums ... is the way to go. Great video with some method to the madness of getting hihats and cymbals right and toms on top of that and useful to watch an actual pianist do this! :D
Love finger drumming, played a track once to a guy he said who was the band , I said me ....lol ....Great video Dom it’s a real skill! But my drummer still nails it can’t replace her ! But sampled sounds have really changed things. Keep up the great work!
hey dom, I'm from india and i can guess how hardworking you are about ur work. i have seen ur guitar video, now watching ur finger drumming video, you know it's like I'm watching a ai robo who can do anything 😂 but it's not possible for a human. i don't know how can you doing it, I'm trying to be like you in music production thnks for your guidance and support ♥️🇮🇳
What would have been super cool is if you recorded (and posted) a midi file of this so we could have slowed things down more. Great video as usual! Thanks!
10:30 that's the pattern I wld always play by accident, like I wld start out with the basic 2s and 4s but then when I wld try to do to much I wld revert back to snare snare snare lol
Hi Dom, I always watch your videos, especially the mindblowing stuff like this one. You are a big inspiration for all of us. Keep it up man ! Ciao from Italy :)
Stumbled on to this and was gonna check a little out - I am amazed at your skills and your excellent teaching strategies! Enjoyed that you looked like you were having fun through it all. Amazing, thank you.

I already have a 25 key keyboard so my question is - are their advantages to using a keyboard instead of pads, or is it more personal preference? a very tangible difference in sound on certain sound banks/VSTs
That's what I have noticed on my Yamaha as well.
Dom, I am sure you have achieved a lot in your life, but one of your greatest achievements is inspiring other musicians to dig deeper within our treasure and fall in love with music all over again. Thank you, brother. We appreciate you. ❤️
This made me so happy to hear Irena, makes it all worthwhile ☺️
I’m one of the people that requested this, I thought it was going to be maschine or mpc styled finger drumming, but this is a whole new approach that I hadn’t even considered, thanks for sharing, you crushed it!
Hope I won’t lose my drummer friends after learning this skill 😂
Please don't play before them, they will get jeleous..
If they don't feel proud about it, they're not real mi hermano
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This technique comes pretty quickly for drummers.
Are you still friends? 😂
Far and away the best, most informative lesson on how to do this I've ever seen. Thank you.
Just the exact video I was looking out for... This is so helpful right now...

A great demonstration of how to finger drum to the highest level cheers Dom, thanks for all your Vids.
Love the way you add ghost notes to the groove. It sounds great 👍
💥This is GM drum map is actually a game-changner for me! Thank you! 😃
I've been using portable Yamaha keyboards since the middle 80s and never saw the logical mapping of the drums. A game-changer for me, too.
Great job Dom. You are an excellent teacher. Keep up the great work.

Thank you so much Dom ! I never thought I could become a drummer, but now thanks to you the dream comes true ! So useful, and the GM map is an incredible tip !
So if you have a three way pedal you could use the other two to basically mimic an open and half open hi hat?
i had asked for this in one of your previous videos, now its here. thank you so much..👌🏼
😊😊😊
Just bought a keyboard with drums sounds included. Waiting for Xmas day before I open and try this method. Thanks for the inspiration Dom.
Oh! That’s awesome! And you’re really enjoying playing drums. Respect.
Dom Sigalas ,You have uploaded a great video on the topic Finger Drumming Tutorial. It is one of best in English.
The way you just jam'd that beat on the keyboard without looking is Bloody 'Impressive'🤩. Peace n Bless

That is what I was looking all my life! Thanks, bro!
way to go man!
you gave me the clue🙂
Drop some more patterns.
I learned to do cool stuff on fingerdrum with your videos on the other channel, hope you continue this series about keyboard fingerdrum
Great tutorial!! That inspired me to practice your technique. A huge upgrade to my playing thanks alot.

You are just a great youtuber , musician and teacher. Thank you. Just wanna know. Those key settings in Groove agent and Cubase do you program in a certain pracrical way ? Wow that's a great lesson. Thanks a lot
