Adding fruit and veg seems to trigger the carb cravings again, so it’s best for me to avoid this! Never want to lose this food freedom that I now have!
@@cinystarr4657 Because you're eating lean meats hahahahaha eat some real meat, the fattiest cut. buy 30% fat ground beef, put butter on every single meal. You will never be hungry again.
Are you actually listening to yourself say those words? There must be something seriously fucked up with your dopamine system or have an impulse control issue if half a sweet potato done that to you.
Monday I was just so hungry and i did not have anything out of the freezer. I went to the local Mexican restaurant and had an order of grilled beef. The order came with rice and beans and corn tortillas. I ate most of it , thinking how bad could that be? I have been carnivore like 7 months. Oh boy, oh boy.. the bloating, the gas, the joint pain, the hip pain and the brain fog. Finally last night I felt better. Never again! In a way, I am glad I tried, just to realize how much my life had changed since I started carnivore! and how bad would it be if i start eating other stuff again.
Reminds me of my first cheat day 6 months in... The only food I missed was sushi rolls and crab Rangoon. Halfway through the meal I was in the bathroom losing half my bodyweight through both ends 😅🤢🤮
@@Meme-eb2te Learned my lesson for sure. I agree that carnivore is effortless and cheaper! People might be scared of cost of carnivore, I found it to be cheaper.
@@ivettesantana4319 Give carnivore a try. If you are starting - check Steak and Butter Gal for the priming video - gives you instruction on how to start the easy way. Your bloating will go away within the first week. The pain, will too.
When I first heard of Carnivore, it was via Paul Saladino and I thought that's how your supposed to do it. I felt awesome from cutting out all the other crap and also intermittent fasting, but would always be hungry. Always. Even after 2-4 pounds of meat, when it stopped tasting good, i would have to have some fruit and/or honey and then would start addictively eating meat or other animal products again, despite being stuffed. Then more fruit. Multiple dinners in one meal. It was just like the former life of bread, rice, and potato addiction. Skip to now, I do strict carnivore and am only sorta hungry maybe once or twice a day. Usually OMAD. Same 2 to 4 pounds of meat depending on exercise but the addictive and compulsive overeating is gone. I find Dr. Chaffee's method of "eat fatty meat until it stops tasting good" to be the best and easiest method to employ.
I bought a jar of pickled herring, and mindlessly scooped off a tablespoon of onion pieces off the top. In a couple hours, like 3, my big toe hurt so bad I could hardly walk for a day. No onions for me, but - - I can use onion powder with no problem.
High Intensity Health just did a video on this topic. They trigger "food seeking behavior." Even artificial sweeteners. The body can't tell the difference.
Fruit isn't giving you arthritis though. You start to fart because you're actually getting fiber but now your gut isn't used to it so there may be excessive gas since your microbiome isn't used to it. Carnivore is an imbalanced diet with no science behind it, especially long-term.
thats very ignorant of u to keep consuming onion powder or no powder its toxic way worse than fruit in moderation is nowhere near as bad as garlic and onion @@Miraak1868
We eat fruit with our meals and we feel really good with it. Honey and maple syrup also don't bother us and the occasional sweet potato. No cravings and flare ups.
Honestly, i did strict Lion Diet for over 60 days, and it had profound effects on my gut health, and really calmed things down in terms of inflammation, but i was not feeling good after a while no matter how much meat/fat/electrolytes i was pounding. Adding back in some fruit and dairy have actually helped me to feel pretty damn good and imrpove sleep and energy. Mostly berries and melons, the easily digested and hydrating fruits, and some honey seem to work best. Just my personal experience.
You may have been dumping oxalates. Happened to me in cycles. Berries are high in oxalates, so when you reintroduce them, the body stops clearing them. If you don't have issues with excess accumulated oxalates, that is fine. I had joint pain and needed to get rid of them. Now I have zero pain, so the process was worth it.
@@lindabirmingham603it’s most likely your gut microbiome. The first two times I tried carnivore I done it cold turkey and I just never could get full and I always had cravings and I had sleep problems libido problems all kinda stuff I didn’t feel great the 3rd time I tried Carnivore I did a slow transition and haven’t had any of those problems ever since and I’m still on carnivore and it’s been a little over a year

Steak grass fed, eggs grass fed, black coffee with 100 percent butter. I had 1 tablespoon of raw unfiltered honey and have no problems. I am full for 7-8 hours with no hunger issues. Occasionally I have pineapple. My bloodwork is excellent and I was diagnosed type 2 diabetes 2018 when I was 350 pounds; now 229. But for the most part I am 97 percent carnivore. I am still losing weight.
Years passing and my experience with woes look like this: meatheavy keto -> carnivore -> carnivore with fruits, raw dairy, eggs, kefirs and raw honey (animal based). The last one I'm on for over a year and really feeling great. Of course the main aspect of my great feeling is cutting all vegs and processed food, but still, I could never go back to SAD.
Fruit would be my food of choice, but have been carnivore for 8 months and don’t miss it!! I have a large family and many friends, so when an “occasion “ comes up to celebrate, I will have a forkful of whatever cake , pie, is offered. I have a little taste, the host is happy, and it doesn’t cause cravings or bother me physically. By the way, I am a 77 year old great -grandmother 😊😊
It’s not high fructose corn syrup. I see a lot of people are soo scared of fruits these days, yes I’m aware of what they can do and how they’re probably grown to be sweets. Eating here and there will be fine! Remember we cannot fully adapt to 100% carnivores like what our ancestors did back then, we can only improved it. Most of our gut is messed up
@stilmotionpicture Of course, we can all eat as carnivorous beings. That's our biological design; a messed-up gut doesn't change that. The microbiome of the gut reacts to the environment, and so food and lifestyle choices will dictate the composition of the biota.
@@stilmotionpictureWe certainly can fully adapt, and your microbiome will fix itself. Your better point is people dont strictly have to follow any diet. Falling off the wagon a little doesnt matter much.
Dr. Baker's intellectual honesty and curiosity are admirable. It strengthens his credibility that he is not blindly dogmatic. Science is inductive, not deductive, knowledge; so it is subject to refinement and correction as more data are gathered.
I ate almost no carbs for over a year. Felt great. Lost fat. This last holiday season, I added some carbs back in. Now, I have to carb detox again. Gained 15 lbs in 2 months. Lesson learned.
I had Christmas dinner with all the trimmings…mashed potatoes, pie and chocolate. I didn’t go excessively overboard and controlled portion sizes. The next day, gas, bloating( I looked pregnant) and inflammation and pain from my RA. I had been carnivore for almost a year! It has taken nearly three months and a ten pound weight gain to get back to feeling better. The carb cravings are still brutally strong but feeling so much better after a week of carnivore is what keeps me away from carbs and sugar. Lesson learned also. I feel your pain!!!! We got this!
In all seriousness, at your age and athletic and strength levels, I wouldn’t change a thing Dr Baker! I know my personal feelings when I added fruit or some rice, I felt bad, strength went down and my sleep was worse
Growing up we had a bowl of plastic fruit as the centerpiece on our dining room table. Guess Mom was right again fruit is better as decoration not for human consumption ❤

My Mom had plastic bacon and 🥚 in a bowl on the dinning table . According to any credible health organisation she was right to keep it as a ornament and not something to be consumed by humans .
My son brought home a bag of mandarin oranges. I hadn't had any in a long time so ate 4 small ones. My A1C has been down at 6.2 from carnivore and I lost 80 pounds. I was up every 2 hours all night long peeing out the sugar and stressing out my kidneys. Lesson learned over here. Not worth it for me.
@@pureblood6492 Not so sure about that. I don't have the same reaction, but I can say my metabolism gets grumpy if I include any carbs. I used to be able to do a minimal amount of carbs when I was generic keto, but now that I'm carnivore, it seems to me that my metabolism has completely focused itself on protein and fat. Even cheese is a no-go.

I was listening to Dr. Saladino and added 1 tsp of raw honey per day....but I stopped after two weeks because I didn't like how I felt and I started getting a pain back in my knee that I previously had before I went full Carnivore.
I was a pretty strict carnivore for 5 years. Mostly beef, eggs, fish, cheese and bacon. I felt great but my problem was I would have to pee 3-4 times a night. This wasn’t a prostate issue, these were big long pees. It was actually in a Dr Baker video that I learned that urine was a byproduct of gluconeogenesis. My theory was that since I am quite active that my body was making lots of glucose at night. Thus making me pee. I started adding yogurt, honey and some fruit mostly at dinner about 5 months ago. This has made a noticeable difference in the amount of times I have to get up and pee. I prefer the way my body looks and feels on strict carnivore but getting up to pee all night sucks. For now I’m keeping the carbs.
I'm quite new to carnivore, just a few days in, and I was hoping getting rid of the junk food and lowering my carbs would HELP my nightime peeing (also 3-4 times), not hurt it. Disappointed to hear this. :(

The same happened to me, tomorrow I ate in the morning and the second meal was around 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm, now I only eat until 2:00 pm, I never get up to go to the bathroom to urinate in the early hours of the morning, and I sleep wonderfully, Try to eat until 5:00 pm, or until 2:00 pm, because when we eat, the body needs to digest and eliminate what is not used, mainly through urine, a normal process. I stopped lifting things that didn't need lifting some while ago. As being diagnosed as T2D 8 years ago at the age of 50, I went down the road of drug educed continuity, but found that the drugs caused severe reactions in me. I therefore went to a Keto and eventually Keto/Carnivore diet, the results, no medication, total control of T2d, at the time, aged 50 actually felt like I was 30 again, it was amazing, at the time and now, 35g of carbs per day, anything more produces side effects, just my personal reaction. 8 years later, this thing works for me, almost all my medical practitioners are against it for "cholesterol" reasons, and want me on a Statin, I have refused all medication, including the state injectable, (for obvious reasons). I still plant 1000+ trees per day and out perform people whom are way younger than me, I prefer to work for a living and work for a lifestyle, rather than go to a gym. Whilst I appreciate people like Shaun, whom presumably earns a good amount to live on, I cannot afford to not work, I could not spend 4 hours or more a day in the Gym, I do not know what other people do for a living, or what that living pays, but I know that I have had countless people say "I work out in the gym, and can plant the number of trees that you do" yet they do well to last a day, let alone 2 or even better, showing potential 3 days of planting 1000+ per day. It just simply does not happen, just a personal opinion, but work harder in the real world, you will need to work less in the gym. The gym has its place, but should only be king if your "work" is not really physical.
Working out outside in the sun is way more healthy! I sawed a fairly large fairly high tree branch down yesterday atop a tall ladder with a pole saw. I’m 5’ tall, 55. It was slow going at that very odd angle but i was determined and got it done. I was surprised by my strength and stamina. I only exercise outside gardening stuff and hiking. My job is physical as well. It’s great to be strong. When I worked out in a gym i did it so that anything i did outside would be effortless. Cheers!
Agreed! Been carnivore for about 3 months, 69 yo woman who works hard in my horse barn every day. Hay bales 110 lbs, 50 lb feed bags, lots of walking taking 17 horses in and out daily. I get plenty of exercise and sunshine with energy to spare. I love my carnivore life..🥩🥓🥚
You know it's funny, people love to say "you need carbs to achieve high athletic performance" but I never hear them explain it on a scientific level. Yet the carnivore doctor-athletes seem perfectly capable of explaining why carnivore produces such incredible athletic performance! I actually have experience in my sport both as a carb eater and a carnivore. I was a varsity distance runner in high school. My mom made sit-down dinners every night and there was always meat, veg, and a starch (although I've always hated most starch foods like potatoes/sweet potatoes, rice, beans, and pasta so I never ate them). I usually ate buttered eggs from our own free range chickens on my mom's homemade sourdough for breakfast. So I was eating fairly "clean" and was definitely getting my animal based foods in, but also eating a lot of fruits, vegetables and bread. I never felt good running. I actually used to fantasize about tripping and getting hurt at practice just so I had an excuse to stop. My race performances were wildly inconsistent-- one week I ran a 5:40 mile and the next week I couldn't get under 6:10. I felt sick, I got a lot of cramps, and I often had this sensation like all of the energy was just being sucked straight down out of my legs. Now, as a carnivore for 18 months, I cannot seem to find the limit to my energy when I run. The only way I can produce that same queasy feeling is if I sustain an all-out sprint. My normal long distance runs always feel great, even when I'm pushing myself, my body gives me what I ask for without complaint. I feel the EFFORT but I don't feel PAIN when I run now. Absolutely night and day difference. And FWIW, I was completely sedentary and very ill with autoimmune issues and severe mental health disorders for ten years before going carnivore, and in only a few months of training I actually beat my high school 5k PR by almost an entire minute, and felt amazing doing it. So I can't speak for others, but for myself, I definitely do not need carbs for athletic performance.
Thanks for this. It seems many are actually unaware of the subtle off feeling probably created from carbs or animal products they can’t tolerate. Lion should definitely be tried, and in my opinion is best. I add liver when I crave it, otherwise, everything els is simply not worth consuming.
You need carbs for endurance and high performance. It's the preferred fuel for muscles. Even the fat adapted athletes will take glucose during ultra marathons and cycling races to avoid bonking. If you are just lifting weights a few times a week or doing 4 minutes on a rowing machine, you don't need to carb up because gluconeogenesis turns part of your steaks into glucose for storage in your muscles for those small amounts of training. But if you go long distance, you will bonk
@@craigd123 I am an endurance runner now and I've never once bonked during my long runs. I ran a half marathon without even drinking water and felt perfectly strong throughout the entire race. Training for a full marathon right now and I don't drink water or take any electrolytes or glucose on my long runs (15-20 miles) and have never once "bonked." So, sorry, but I don't buy it. My personal experiences say otherwise.
@@Audifan8595 get back to me when you can complete a tour de France stage, an iron man, a full marathon or a 50 mile ultra marathon with a competitive time. No one doing these sports at a high level can do it without glucose. But finishing a half marathon with a participation medal is doable on carnivore.
Same. I tried it, doesnt work for me. After i have fruit i want icecream a d cookies and all the shit. Its way easier to stay carb free, than to try to moderate

I don´t care for fruit, but I do like veggies. At the beginning of my carnivore journey and one month in, I was missing the veggies, so I decided to have a small basic salad with my steak.. lettuce, onion, tomato, salt, olive oil and vinegar. After three days, I had to quit.. The pain that I have had in the right knee for several decades that had completely disappeared from the third day on carnivore, began to show it´s ugly head... Was also beginning to feel hungry with some cravings... stopped after the third day and two days later, I felt much better... no plant life for me.. no way, no how... pain is a great teacher!
I am 60yo and I had two elderly friends who were in their later 80's in the early 90's. They were telling me an awesome Christmas gift in the early 20th century was to receive an orange..... which they divvied up among the family for all to enjoy. We have NO IDEA how people used to eat back in the day.
I can eat fruit with meat, in season and small amounts. It actually seems to aid my digestion and I feel pretty good. I cannot mix meat and veggies unless they are actually a fruit. So if I eat salad it's just greens with a bit of olive oil and vinegar. I also find that onions and garlic go well with eggs. I can't call myself a carnivore but the info I get from carnivore channels has helped me balance my omnivore diet in a healthier way, thank you.
Carbs are only useful for feeding profits and the bottom line of the 2 most disingenuous and corrupt industries on Earth - Big Food/Agriculture and Big Pharma - Both of which own government and the main stream media, at least in the USA.
@@pureblood6492 Wrong. People have been consuming carbs as long as agriculture has existed, but there have been people on this planet for far longer than that. We are not descendants of animals which grazed the savannas of Africa, feasting on broccoli and potatoes. We did not migrate following the ripening grasses, so that we could pick the seeds from the tops of the stalks and eat them. We did eat ripened fruit, during the brief periods of time when it was available. But then it was gone. Then we returned to our main diet. Human beings are not obligate carnivores, but we are carnivores. We have the ability to consume other nutrients on an opportunistic basis. But we are mainly carnivores. gluconeogenesis is done by the liver, and has a variety of different sources.
@@y00t00b3r yea and mankind basically accomplished nothing until we started consuming high amounts of carbs. We produce more amylase than any other animal for a reason.
I think adding the sweetness of fruit would trigger sugar cravings. Plus I am no longer type 2 diabetic after giving up sugar and carbs!! Thanks Dr. Baker!
I’m with you 100% on this matter. Did pick a few wild blackberries in Autumn last year and my tongue enjoyed the taste, but didn’t notice any improved energy levels.
Thank you for using your own personal experience and not shutting down someone else trying different things with this diet. Personally, all of your info makes sense and helps clear alot up, for me anyway.
Carnivore for 1 month now and doing ok. Looking forward to feeling better and better. As far as fruit and veg go, they've made up an important part of my diet these last almost 57 years. However, knowing that fruit is picked not ripe, and sprayed even when organic, same with vegetables, made it so easy to let them go, just like that. Good for you Dr. Baker to know that fruit doesn't work for you a fact that probably would have become more pronounced had you continued. I know my body well enough as well to know when it's off from something I've eaten and because I know this, I can catch things early before I develop a real issue that may take time to heal. From 2012-2023, before starting carnivore, I was gluten-free and this helped me tremendously as far as skin issues and digestive ones. I didn't go for all of the gluten free garbage that is out there so I felt ok but I had so many people tell me that they could never do it as they loved their food too much and would rather eat what they wanted despite it having been recommended that they cut out gluten for their health issues. They still opted to continue eating certain foods and take meds for the symptoms that these foods caused rather than go without. It was too hard, they said. I guess bad health wasn't depriving them of anything. This always amazed me and made me feel sad for them. Some people have maybe never felt good so telling them that they could feel good if they went carnivore really means nothing as they have nothing to compare to.
I find if every 2-3 days if I have say 1/2 cup of some blue berry's or strawberries I feel great but typically only add fruit on days of heavy activities like hiking 10-15 km or heavy work outs or physical activities
I’ve had GI issues my whole life. I feel at least slight discomfort almost every day. Often times it would be really painful. It would often keep my up all night and prevent me from exercising or going out of the house. Two two days into my carb free diet and my symptoms went away. I’m only a week and two days into it so it’s way to soon to know if carbs were really the problem. But this is the first week I can remember in my whole life that I haven’t had any pain in my gut.
I did carnivore for 5 years. Since I’ve started to include fruit, potatoes/rice I’ve become much stronger and intense in the gym and my libido has gotten much better. I still love carnivore and do 1 month of carnivore every 7-8 months followed up by a 5 day fast.
I added about 100g of carbs (fruit and honey - basically Saladino's animal-based) after strict carnivore for a year because I bottomed out on fat % and started to feel lower energy. I started to feel more energy and learned to time carb intake before workouts. If my fat % is too high due to vacation then I just return to strict carnivore. To each their own - main thing is to experiment long enough to know if it is just your system adapting.
I'll never eat food to please anyone... You don't get to tell me what to eat if you won't experience the side affects with me (or bad taste). I've been this way since a child and I would've eaten a lot of straight up bad and bacteria ridden food if I didn't
I’ve been doing carnivore for about 3 weeks. I LOVE ice cream! So that was tough to give up, but I found a replacement. I eat plain Greek yogurt with frozen organic blueberries. I sometimes eat avocado but that’s it. If I try other carbs, I think it will open the flood gates to eat other sweets.
I really enjoy your intake on diet, and I glean from you and others online. I’m 64 soon to be 65, and that’s a microscopic amount to how long humans have been on this planet. It’s puzzling, interesting, and often frustrating to realize mankind still hasn’t figured out what is the best way to eat?🧐…my take is…anything eatable from nature is much better than anything man made…good Dr, I appreciate you and all the others I listen to on a daily bases. You aren’t afraid to use yourself as a living example for what is good for you and what is bad. But, you do focus from your perspective what is good for you, and I respect that very much. Thank you for being an honest man. God Bless.
A bad feeling in the gut might be from the carbs, but maybe it’s just the fibre content. Another way to add carbs is through starchy root vegetables. As I understand it, we do have the amylase enzyme, so we’re probably well adapted to digest starches. I’m planning to try Nick Norwitz’s experiment before my next labs-but not with Oreos, but with beets, carrots, potatoes, yams etc.
I go through phases where I feel best on varying amounts of veggies or fruit. Since I started to try to build muscle, I find that the fruit & honey help with energy & recovery. If I overdo the honey, I will crave it (obviously! Lol) But grains make me crave sugar right away, so that is a no-go.
Beef, salmon, oranges and lemons seem to go really well together. I have a feeling they work synergistically to help get protein where it needs to go and the sugar helps boost energy and mental clarity. Also I’ve been eating oranges and meyer lemons with the skin on. Seems to be more hydrating a satiating that way. I hope the skins are safe to eat though.
@@GrowingPains917 They tend to be good for digestion! I have been using a baking soda soak or that new product renovera to remove pesticides from the skin.
I cut out breads and added sugars just five days ago. So i been eating meat eggs dairy fruits and veggies. I loved energy drinks and pizza and ice cream. I feel a lot better, no gut aches or heart burn. Im just getting started on this diet thing and you guys are making me wanna get even more strict with it!
Food combining is important here. Fruit should typcically be eaten by itself. It digest extremely fast, alot faster than protein, so if you eat it after a heavy meal it will begin to ferment. You can test this by having a meal then eating some watermelon after. Watermelon is one of the quickest digesting fruits so will begin to ferment quickly.
Sugar is one of the most addictive substances on the planet. I tried to add stuff like fruit because Carnivore can get kinda bland but holy crap the cravings went into overdrive. Its like giving an alcoholic some apple vodka. I have to abstain. I HAVE found carnivore bread though. Yes you heard that right, made from eggs and pork planko powder. Found it on Maria Emmerichs channel here and its incredible. I can finally have my favorite food again, cheesburgers. I can have home made mustard and home made mayo without the seed oils but I have yet found a solution to ketchup. Still working on that one. Although Maria has a recipe for carnivore sauce that I might try.
I respect you for at least giving it an effort, and acknowledging that you're no longer adapted for using carbs, so that could explain some issues you have. That's FAR more than most carnivore advocates would even think of doing & coming from you, it means a lot.

It’s good people do experiments and see all the foods that work and don’t work as you’ve done. They may find they can incorporate or even feel better with a few foods such as fruit and vegetables.
I'm strict keto 15 years. Fruit doesn't bother me I tried it recently. It didn't cause any issues but no benefits either. I also cycle in and out of Carnivore and no marked improvements. Keto works for me, plain and simple.
I’m definitely addicted to sugar, so it wouldn’t be good. I am carnivore for 90 days and am trying to add more fat but I feel like I have bile acid malabsorption and this tells me that my body is having trouble absorbing the fat I’m eating so I think I will try lowering it and see if it has an impact rather than trying to force myself to eat too much fat and then having bile excreted as waste which isn’t fun. Would love to hear if anyone has any solutions for this. Thanks
all this people saying yeah I am carnivore since 2000, had an apple an felt bad, so apples are bad...NO! that is...dumb. Your body takes a long time to adapt to changes, if you didnt give it anything other than meat for years, its obvious it will "suffer" if you suddenly give it something different. That doesnt mean apples are "bad" it just means you made the mistake of specializing your bowels to a single food group. Vegans also will say "been vegan for 400 years, had a steak and got sick" OBVIOUSLY. If you want to live in ketosis fine but that just means your body "fabricates" glucose and other needed sugars the "hard way", which is great if you want to lose weight, maybe better to teach your body to be omnivore once you find the right weight.
Good for you for being open to experimentation. We are all so different. I generally don't eat a lot of plants. I recently made an artichoke heart dip for the super bowl. It was REALLY good. After eating I noticed my gut just didn't feel its best. Not horrible but not great. For me, that was an indication that in general, fewer plants are best for me! I don't think everyone needs to eat or live in any certain or specific way. I do think we should all listen to our bodies after eating and make adjustments as necessary!
Thank you Dr. Baker for your honesty and non-dogmatic approach to everything you cover. I did strict carnivore for a year and a half after a year of keto. Carnivore helped me to eliminate my gut inflammation and arthritis, but I struggled with my electrolytes and chronic, unrelenting bathroom urgency even after adjusting macros, taking supplements, doing lion diet, etc.... I tried it all. Starting in January, I tried Dr. Saladino's approach and started eating more organs, small amounts of fruit and a little honey, but I'm still mostly carnivore. As a former binge-eater, I was nervous doing this, but I have had absolutely zero cravings since making this adjustment and my bathroom urgency and electrolyte issues are both fixed. I'm happy and feeling good. Carnivore was such an amazing reset button for me, and I think I'll probably try incorporating "carnivore cycles" throughout the year. I like to experiment. I think we can all agree that there's no "one-size fits all" diet out there, as we're all different individuals. :)
@UTAH100 glycates 7x more than glucose and must be processed by the liver and it can only process 30 to 40g at a time. Any extra is stored as fat in the liver, contributing to nafls (non alcoholic fatty liver syndrome). It also has been shown to contribute to dementia and gout to name a few things. We have a decent mechanism for processing glucose if metabolically healthy, but that seems to not be the case for fructose.
@UTAH100 you can look up all this research I'm referring to on NIH. I am not familiar with it but after looking it up briefly, I myself would not partake. It promotes beans, tofu, fruit etc. You can get everything you need from red meat. If you're skeptical just do 45 days and see how good you feel.. get plenty of salt and hydrate!
I just did a short carb cycle with a couple of small bread rolls for lunch for a few days. I thought my second session of body weight exercises yesterday was noticeably easier than normal but I have only been building up over perhaps 6 months or so. If you are as well trained as the good doc I could well imagine it won’t make much difference.

When I do strict carnivore I can tell my cortisol levels become elevated to the point that my sleep really suffers and I have increased anxiety. Just adding a couple pieces of fruit per day completely fix the issue. I've had the same experience in the past when doing strict keto diets. I've always been a hard gainer and pretty lean I don't get the carb cravings like some people seem to, so I'm fine with my modified approach.
Dr. Baker, I added some portions of fruit in my first month and within two days I was experiencing a little gut discomfort myself. I dropped the fruits immediately.
I’ve been mostly carnivore since Jan 1. Never had any issues such as Keto Fly, Diarrhea, Oxalate Dumping, etc. In other words, no noticeable discomfort. Got a chicken rice lettuce bowl from Chipotle yesterday… have had diarrhea.
I was carnivore for 5 months and then came the holidays. I decided to allow a small amount of fruit, and a trail mix I made with dried fruit, nuts and dark chocolate. It set off a whole lot of carb cravings for me and I stopped losing weight. Right now I am just trying to get back to fully carnivore so I can get the cravings to stop, continue my weight loss, and feel good again. I can’t seem to thrive when I add back other foods. I need to stay carnivore.
Whenever I have added a little carbohydrates for any reason - trial and error, vacation (didn't bring enough meat to prepare), splurging on something with the kids, etc. - it always ignites nothing but a swollen stomach and carb cravings. Back to meat it was and the cravings went away, and without doing a single crunch, I have my abs back in my 40's.
I really appreciate your honesty! Although I don’t agree with your view on carbs being seasonal, I am Asian and historically Asians have consumed rice and fruits everyday whether it’s fresh or some way preserve (ie. dried or candied) and have had long life spans. It maybe that Asian genes are better for consuming and breaking down carbs. I have now data to back this up though other than my personal life experience culturally.
As a Vedic medicine practitioner, I can say that if you eat nut butter with red meat, it will help the digestion process and nutrient uptake. The unction of the butters help for a smoother running GI system, while eating red meat. I tried to eat lentils as well, for more protein, and they work, but it’s a winter soup treat, not sustainable for big gains. I can only afford peanut butter, but there are many awesome butters now.
Adding fruit to my carnivore routine has measureably increased my strength and stamina in the gym. Regulating my glycogen stores. Fruit on heavy training days and timing fruit intake with training.
I’m not really a fruit eater, but I love my own fruit ripe off the vine, tree or plant in season. So if I do choose to include fruit it will be my own fruit in season , but that’s in the future. I’m happy just with carnivore at the mo with no cravings- very freeing!
I never had any problems eating any foods and had no medical problems until the covid jab, I developed celiac disease and a bunch of other likely autoimmune food sensitivities but luckly the celiac disease went away about 6-8 months after the jab. I'm only now getting almost able to get back to work after more than two years later, with hyperbaric chamber helping and I did pretty well on carnivore with a bit of fruit but it's a hard diet to maintain when everyone else is eating a 'normal' diet of grains, sugars, seed oils and poisonous additives.
I have fruit and honey when it's available locally and organic, but I live in a tropical place. My main foods are animal fat and protein, raw dairy, plus liver and heart once a week. I'm very active as a carpenter and my training routines. I feel great. No stomach issues, or energy fluctuations. I agree with Shawn, we have to listen to our own bodies and take into account where we live and such.
I’m able to enjoy some seasonal berries a few times a year. BUT I had to do a few months of complete carb detox. I don’t recommend eating anything sweet when you’re starting out
You mentioned no glucose spike when eating with meal vs without. This is because protein helps stabilize glucose levels. Additionally, I believe dietary changes can cause GI issues and this is temporary until your GI system adjusts. Fruits have antioxidants which is why I eat them.
been carnivore for 16 months now. i recently started adding in a small amount of fruit (clementine or a small orange) and i started sleeping better at night. I will get a small carb craving that i can deny myself and not chase it. For me i like it and will try no fruit again in the future as my body may change. But yes for a tiny amount of fruit for me at this time.
I think it makes sense that people would carb up in the summer months. That’s when fruit/sweet potatoes would be available. Women especially needed to gain weight before winter when food is scarce. They are growing and feeding children. But even men would need some extra weight, 4,000 a day probably weren’t available to them in the winter months.
The same thing happened to me. In 4 days, I gained 3 pounds from 75g of fruit carbs a day. My belly was constantly under distress and I didn't have a bowel movement for days. It took a couple of months to finally get back to my flat belly and that was because I didn't have a big appetite. I ate less then a pound of meat a day and wasn't ravenous hungry. My gut appreciated the light work days.
Adding fruit and veg seems to trigger the carb cravings again, so it’s best for me to avoid this! Never want to lose this food freedom that I now have!
I have chicken thighs in the oven & am so hungry I just had some more banana to help - I get so hungry on this diet I'm almost 2 months into it.

I also find that method to be a great guide to when and how much to eat!
Exactly right 😊
I find that hunger and cravings come from not eating enough fat
@adrielbadillo1942 there's *no* such thing as a healthy carbohydrate, people need to stop lying to themselves and others
@adrielbadillo1942modern fruit contains way too much sugar. It is not healthy.
I love fruit, but. It immediately sets off my sugar cravings, I start to fart again and I get arthritis in my knees and hips within 24 hours.
I bought a jar of pickled herring, and mindlessly scooped off a tablespoon of onion pieces off the top. In a couple hours, like 3, my big toe hurt so bad I could hardly walk for a day. No onions for me, but - - I can use onion powder with no problem.
TMI
High Intensity Health just did a video on this topic. They trigger "food seeking behavior." Even artificial sweeteners. The body can't tell the difference.
Fruit isn't giving you arthritis though. You start to fart because you're actually getting fiber but now your gut isn't used to it so there may be excessive gas since your microbiome isn't used to it. Carnivore is an imbalanced diet with no science behind it, especially long-term.

@stilmotionpicture Of course, we can all eat as carnivorous beings. That's our biological design; a messed-up gut doesn't change that. The microbiome of the gut reacts to the environment, and so food and lifestyle choices will dictate the composition of the biota.

Try to eat until 5:00 pm, or until 2:00 pm, because when we eat, the body needs to digest and eliminate what is not used, mainly through urine, a normal process.

I was just wondering about you eating fruit and honey yesterday! Looked up your older videos about it. Glad to see this one.
I love how fair minded you are! You rock!!!💪💕
Obviously many folks have not learned about fat adaptation and gluconeogenesis. The whole myth that carbs are needed to fuel the muscles and brain.
Carbs are only useful for feeding profits and the bottom line of the 2 most disingenuous and corrupt industries on Earth - Big Food/Agriculture and Big Pharma - Both of which own government and the main stream media, at least in the USA.
gluconeogenesis comes from your own bodies protein. It is much better to just consume carbs as people have been doing for thousands of years.
What gets me is how many nutritionists think that fiber is essential. Of course it is not.
Every time I have more than 20 grams of carbs within a few hours I'm experiencing inflammation and fatigue. No thanks I'll stick with steak and eggs.
The only carbs I consume are in animal products like eggs and dairy, but I eat them in small quantities. Carbs = pain.

I did carnivore for 5 years. Since I’ve started to include fruit, potatoes/rice I’ve become much stronger and intense in the gym and my libido has gotten much better. I still love carnivore and do 1 month of carnivore every 7-8 months followed up by a 5 day fast.
It is nice to see you testing it out. I found the same. The only benefit I saw was less dry skin.
What if you add more fat to your diet?

I’ve been doing carnivore for about 3 weeks. I LOVE ice cream! So that was tough to give up, but I found a replacement. I eat plain Greek yogurt with frozen organic blueberries. I sometimes eat avocado but that’s it. If I try other carbs, I think it will open the flood gates to eat other sweets.
In my experience fruit HELPS my stomach on a carnivore diet. Everyone is different.
God Bless.
I heard about the first 3 words, then the shirt hypnotized me all the way till the end!
I think the gut feeling is from eating fruit with the other food. By itself no problem.
Added one orange after lunch. Got tons of improvement in the gym.
Thanks for the info. Good to see all sides on this.
I go through phases where I feel best on varying amounts of veggies or fruit. Since I started to try to build muscle, I find that the fruit & honey help with energy & recovery. If I overdo the honey, I will crave it (obviously! Lol)
But grains make me crave sugar right away, so that is a no-go.
When changing diets, gut enzymes need time to adapt. Until they have enough time, new foods will cause GI discomfort.
How about animal blood?
I respect you for at least giving it an effort, and acknowledging that you're no longer adapted for using carbs, so that could explain some issues you have. That's FAR more than most carnivore advocates would even think of doing & coming from you, it means a lot.

Yea i have same issues. They want me to get gallbladder out. No luck with digestive enzymes or ox bile. Have you had any success?
Fructose is worse than glucose.
And it can't help muscles as it's only processed in the liver.
Can you please explain why? I have heard that also. Do you know about the Randle Cycle? That's important to understand too.
@@SuperbExistence Thanks man. Very interesting. Do you know about the Randle Cycle?
@UTAH100 you can look up all this research I'm referring to on NIH. I am not familiar with it but after looking it up briefly, I myself would not partake. It promotes beans, tofu, fruit etc. You can get everything you need from red meat. If you're skeptical just do 45 days and see how good you feel.. get plenty of salt and hydrate!
why do you say it takes 3 months to get used to carnivore but refuse to think the same about fruit? You judge fruit after a few days...
I just did a short carb cycle with a couple of small bread rolls for lunch for a few days. I thought my second session of body weight exercises yesterday was noticeably easier than normal but I have only been building up over perhaps 6 months or so. If you are as well trained as the good doc I could well imagine it won’t make much difference.
why ultra processed gluten though? Let us know how two dinner rolls effect you after a few weeks? See if other carbs slide into your meals?

Got a chicken rice lettuce bowl from Chipotle yesterday… have had diarrhea.
could it be salmonella or other food poisoning? lol
I added in measured amounts of fruit. No big difference in how i feel and no other cravings. It was a win for me.
Love how Dr B keeps his vids under 5min!
Carb cycling is probably the best. I go days without them and then have 1 or 2 days of having them depending on my activity level (endurance athlete)
Dude said he doesn't have the "metabolic machinery" to eat an apple lmao
Well done for not being dogmatic! Always looking to improve 🏆
Carbs always harm my performance. Furthermore if I add any veggies in particular makes my joints hurt and even swell. Just saying.😊
"I don't have the metabolic machinery upregulated to deal with them properly." It's called insulin resistance. You're welcome.
We have been told that fructose is only processed in the liver, so the carbs can't help your muscles.
Go well Doc. Thanks. Aussie Bob 😊
been carnivore for 16 months now. i recently started adding in a small amount of fruit (clementine or a small orange) and i started sleeping better at night.
Yes, whatever's in season where you live is best.
