I've been a life long coffee drinker and when I went carnivore I switched to only have a small amount of heavy cream and it never seemed to affect me. A few months ago I decided to try giving up coffee as I've heard a number of people said it helped them a great deal.
I went about 6 or 7 weeks without coffee and when I got over the caffeine addiction quickly enough I never gave up my desire for coffee. I really missed the ritual of having a cup of coffee. Later I tried replacing that with caffeine tea or caffeine free coffee and it did not do the trick. I never really felt any benefit giving up coffee but after nearly 2 months of no coffee I still wanted it for the ritual. I went back to regular coffee with heavy cream again and I love it. I felt no benefit giving up coffee and felt no negative effects going back to coffee.
The longer I'm carnivore the more I realize that there is a lot of benefit listening to what others experience with their diet changes but most of all you have to test it out to see how things affect you.

I have had IBS (Diahrrea) for nearly 50 years. In February 2022 I started converting to a carnivore diet, and was fully carnivore before the end of March. I immediately stopped taking daily Imodium, and have not used it since. My IBS improved significantly, but I still had bad days every week. So, I decided to slowly wean myself off coffee by cutting down on the amount of caffeine, mixing regular with decaf, and eventually going full decaf (December 9, 2022). I found that even the decaf still bothered my bowels, so after two months on decaf, I stopped drinking it too. Since February 10, 2023 my main hot beverage has been hot water. Occasionally, I will drink hot water with butter. Since Feb 10, my bowels have been very healthy, and almost normal. It has changed my life!

I am one of those persons who has benefitted enormously by giving up coffee, even though I had to go through withdrawel, but I made up my mind and am glad I pushed through. No more anxiety, heartpalpitations after drinking coffee. But, for me the greatest gift is how amazing my sleep is, I dream the most vivid dreams. I feel so mellow, rested with an inner peace I only experienced when I was a kid.
I think dr. Baker's advice is so great, because I do believe you should try to do the Carnivore diet first for a while and afterwards quit coffee if that is what you want. This way it might be better to differentiate.
My opinion is that people who say they have no ill effect of it, is because you are constantly drinking it and you don't know or remember what it is like without it. I started drinking coffee from the age of 15 and if someone would have said to me: "from now on you will drink this everyday for the next 30 years" I would have thought they were crazy. Its just so available everywhere you go, at schools, libraries, and offered to you mostly for free as well.

I agree with you it’s important to drink it after 3 hours of waking . The first few hours of waking the human body is the most energetic . Caffeine blocks adenosine from binding, thus making you feel alert and also helping you feel better. But later adenosine hormones comes out the hidden cave and BOOM releases that sugar caffeine crash we all get around 2 pm . So now I drink coffee 3 hours after waking and no more anxiety or overly hyper the first 3 hours at work like I used to be .

I went without tea or coffee. For 20 years (1984-2004 roughly). Then started again until recently. Went full carnivore 6 years ago after 2 years of keto. Found keto good, but still had metabolic issue. Full carnivore resolved over 18 different metabolic disorders. Never been healthier. But one final one, skin sclerosis did not resolve until I stopped coffee. So no more for me. So many other benefits. Never spent so little on food! I eat about 30% of what I used to and it’s all top quality organic meats. Wastage is down from 50% thrown out to < 5% (few bones and sometimes a bit of fat). My brother (so similar genetics) crippled with arthritis, waiting for hip replacements. My best friend now dead from diabetes. All paths that I was on (now 69). I don’t think people on typical western diets have any idea what healthy is for them. They have never experienced it. I was astounded at my personal changes with about 2-3 months of full carnivore.

I've always had dark skin folds and more recently dark patches on my face. I've been weaning myself off of coffee by drinking very watered down organic decaf, a splash of heavy cream, and sugar-free caramel. This has drastically reduced the dark skin areas. But when purchasing decaf at coffee shops, the dark skin returns, my hands get rough and dry, and my face looks aged. I've been on carnivore for 6 months and decaf is my only plant food. I never developed a taste for coffee. I was, however, a diet coke / diet Dr Pepper fiend. When I first went low carb, I decided to give up caffeine. I wanted to improve my sleep and reduce my cortisol production. It is hard to say definitively how significant getting off caffeine was since I was making other dietary changes at the same time. My feeling is that it helped me get better sleep. I believe I was getting the beginning stages of sleep apnea. Going low carb and dropping caffeine helped me drop 40+ pounds, reduce my inflammation, and I no longer have any sleep apnea. Looking back, I believe I was using caffeine to try to fight off the tiredness of poor sleep. That was a losing strategy. I have no plans, at this point, to ever incorporate caffeine back into my daily life.

Next year my coffee ritual went through the winter, spring and summer so by year 3 I was full time coffee with the creamer and bullcrap that most people put in. Did that for nearly 20 years. 2 years ago I decided to cut out the flavored cream and crap and slowly cut back until over a few months I was down to just plain black coffee, now I only have 1 cup in the morning per day. No more than I cup, I don't feel there would be any difference felt since I feel great already on carnivore so it's the one thing I really look forward to in the morning even though I only have 1 cup. I gave up coffee at 65. I was a moderate coffee drinker. I switched to tea. I had no problems switching. Now I'm 70. I haven't seen a great difference in my metabolism. I may start coffee again just to double check.

Well said Shawn. I don't generally drink coffee but I did take it up for a couple of months when my autoimmune symptoms were really knocking me around. It certainly helped get me through that period. The carnivore diet has solved many issues for me however like Mikhaila Peterson I still can only eat just meat. It would be nice to be able to eat eggs, maybe one day.

Gave it up for 40 days. I love the taste of coffee and I missed the ritual of having a coffee with my wife or friends. A glass of hot water or sparkling water wasn’t the same. I didn’t notice any difference except that I’ve now drink decaffeinated and when I occasionally have caffeinated coffee I do feel a surge of energy whereas before even after 4 cups I never felt anything.

Coffee is fine, the food most people eat is worse, not to mention the chemicals and plastics from everything found household products.

Even contaminated drinking water from swallow well and even city water (Flint Michigan is a good example, there are many. Now the chemical spill in Ohio,....love channel, thousands of examples). Smog, vehicle exhaust, manufacturing pollution, mold in home,... Many things we have to be vigilant while trying to eat healthy.

I stopped coffee many years ago and don't remember exactly when or what year. Back in february 2022 I started keto and went complete carnivore in October and stayed with it since. I will say I did try coffee again as an experiment in the past 2 months with carnivore to see how I react and each time it was terrible. Felt jittery and had terrible workouts. I'm happier knowing it makes me feel crappy otherwise I'll be on the stuff again. I haven't tried just caffeine alone tho. And besides coffee bean is a plant seed. Nuts and seeds of any kind are on my no list no exceptions.

As a sufferer of Crohns which I manage with carnivore diet, I find that if I'm doing well on carnivore I can tolerate a small amount of coffee with no problem at all (which keeps me happy as I'm quite an addict). If I'm not doing well I do need to avoid the strong brewed stuff and stick to only one extremely weak cup of instant in the morning. Actually these days I just stick to the instant as it seems to be less potent and I've actually gone right off the flavour of strong coffee anyway. I find that tea is way more detrimental to my gut than coffee, which seems counterintuitive but that's what I've personally experienced, so I avoid tea at all costs.

I quit drinking coffee 4 years ago and am so glad I did. I no longer have gut problems, don’t feel addicted to coffee or need it to help wake up, plus I’m saving lots of money. I feel great, and it made starting the carnivore diet easier for me.

Always drank two cups of coffee in the morning. Got a rule I never drink after midday. I found black coffee to be a useful tool to help me transition into Carnivore. Especially at work where as a contractor I don't have time to eat till the afternoon so a black coffee really helps with that

Lifelong coffee drinker. Stopped ~ 20 years ago. But re-started.
Two weeks ago, drank morning butter coffee and developed massive headache behind eyeball sockets. Rarely get headaches. So I stopped coffee. Tested it again ten days later. This time 50% diluted with water. Another headache. Stopped for good.
Substituted dark cocoa to make hot butter drink in the morning.
Will test black tea another time.
Herbal tea seems OK for now.
Thanks for the helpful, practical information!

I like how you tell us the time instead of building us a clock like Thomas DeLauer does. I quit coffee several months ago thinking oxalates were negatively affecting my right hip osteoarthritis. Well, that didn't help at all ( I ended up with hip replacement surgery ), so now I'm back drinking it again. I missed have morning coffee with my wife anyway.
