- There are so many different items and gear pieces in oldschool runescape. Over the years the best items have become the most popular. That said there are some very underrated items in the game, and today I want to cover some of the most unknown items.
This videos is targeting some underutilized items that can be very useful in the early to mid game. I personally think a lot of these are quite obscure, so I think its possible you might learn something. In a lof of cases these are pretty niche items, but some of the items on this list are actually just objectively better then the more used counterpart

For anyone who doesn't know using the ancient mace special attack on the combat dummy in your house will give you the max hit in added prayer every time.
I didn't find out about this till late game stage and was like DAMN I"M TAKING THIS EVERYWHERE NOW after I found out.

Super super useful for Inferno learners, as it essentially gives you 30-35 pray points to work with over your max, which is a nice bonus while learning waves especially.
Special mention to Silly Jester Boots. 2nd highest magic defence in the game only beaten by eternal boots. Tha's right, some silly jester boots are as good as infinity boots & pegasian boots when it comes to magic defence.
I had literally no idea the Soul Bearer existed until Guardians of the Rift released and I thought I knew everything about this game. I completed that miniquest thinking it was the new Guardian of the Rift quest, got some weird head and had no idea what I was supposed to do with it 😆

Soul Bearer is damn amazing for Slayer.

@@mjsvitek I struggled to ever find a use for it on the road to 99 slayer. In my experience it's a pretty useless item.
Ancient mace can be used in your POH for guaranteed max hit, so it's like 40 prayer points at the beggining of any trip (think gwd or dks), you can also use it in nmz with spec restore power-up with a prayer setup and finally you could rush people in multi with it to ensure smites. I remember a couple videos smiting ags's back when they were 70m
I do it before going to vorkath. Normally gives me just enough to squeeze out one more kc in a trip

As soon as I got 70 prayer I got my bonecrusher necklace, which is a dragonbone necklace combined with a bonecrusher. When it’s not worn you don’t get the prayer point restoration, but when it is worn it auto-buries and prayer restores without taking up an inventory slot!
Specially in catacombs!
@@a97m Bonecrusher necklace doesn't stack with catacombs. Just keeping a bonecrusher or the necklace in your inventory is enough. Works wonders at other places like cannoning dags.
I know I was rushing 80 prayer, just for the bonecrusher neck..... Then they buffed it to 70 prayer :'-)
Just a tip - would be great if item names were on screen while you are talking about them. Love your vids!
Kind of a niche use one, but the prayer book from the Great Brain Robbery quest is useful for low level irons. Collecting unicorn horns or picking up 1 dose antipoisons is a pain, and curing poison during skilling activities (pyramid plunder, for example) with the Prayer Book and a Holy Symbol is definitely underrated, imo
For those who have never used this book before, you can either right click the book and choose recite prayer, or, more simply, just click your HP orb while poisoned and it'll cure it automatically and it only uses 1 prayer point.

The event launcher sold in Draynor is the definition of underrated. It has the same stats as a mithril scimitar but with no attack requirements.
the blessed mitheil axe keeps the stats of mith axe while being weildable by 1 attack. source: was my main weapon when the game dropped because topaz machettes were 1m+ and i was trying to be a range tank with no att/str
Not the same stats. It has no stats but attacks faster so has similar DPS. Ham join and swift blade are the same but one-handed, so those are actually BIS

it's not underrated at all, every obby mauler uses this, every def pure uses this, and who hasn't 360 no scoped someone with it. Not at all underrated.
Dragon mace is honestly comparable to the dragon scimitar in my experience, especially if your using prayer. That +5 prayer bonus is legit. Also it’s special attack is pretty darn good too (25% to deal a higher damage and more accurate hit)
I use the goblin mace more than any other spec weapon on my iron,people always laugh at me but it saves so much and really prolongs pvm trips,basically a budget sgs.
Half-accidentally discovered the secret power of the Shayzien boots (5) couple of months back. I knew I wasn't insane!
Slayer staff (e) also gives full xp when compared to tridents with small loss of DPS. I got 99 mage passively on task by only using slayer staff, lots cheaper too

@@MrDemiraca yeah pretty sure it's across the board, ibans blast has max 25 with no buffs, slayer dart starts at 25 at 75 mage and scales up with levels
Yeh i got 99 with slayer staff - alch combo :-) couldn't get myself over the decreased xp from trident
Gotta love the ancient mace, always use it on the punch bag in my house for a max spec
I always use my Ancient mace on my ironman for getting pray points back while doing slayer works well "most" of them time

Pro-Tip: ancient mace spec works on POH dummy stacked with slayer helm/salve ammy | dragon bone necklace fuses with bone crusher and synergizes with catacombs bonus. Slayer staff(e) stacks with magic level and slayer helm you can hit like a 42 in 2nd bis gear
Problem with Slayer Staff(e) compared to Iban's is it takes a much higher level magic to use. Still only good for 2,500 casts and it's a tiny bit more expensive. But with 99 Magic, an Imbued Heart, Slayer Helm(i), Occult Necklace, and Ancestral Gear + Imbued God Cape + Tormented Bracelet it caps at 42.
Without having all those things, it's kinda ehh... Iban Blast with the same Gear can hit 34's, the God Spells with eithe Staff of Light/Dead/Balance using Charge with 80 Magic and same gear hit's 46. Fire Surge with Tome of Fire and same gear is 55. Not saying the Magic Dart is useless, just it needs so much to be that good that it almost never comes close to being "that good". Trident of the Swamp with the same gear is 47's and a much higher DPS. In fact, the Trident of the Swamp ultimately is just so much better than Slayer Staff(e), it's just costly.
Full Ahrim with Amulet of the Damned and Ice Barrage can hit 42's. Use Tome of Water to ignore water runes. I think it just comes down to, it's not that useful is all.
Ancient mace is a great option for kurasks/turoth slayer as well, as the effect works even if you hit a 0 (and none of the leaf bladed weapons have special attacks)
Same goes for the SGS
As well as SGS and Eldritch Nightmare Staff. Both of which are arguably more useful. Ancient Mace's main usefulness aside from Iron Men is multi way wilderness. D Spear Spec a guy, pile with Ancient Maces and Smite. Guaranteed a skulled player loses everything every single time.

You didn't mention you can combine the bonecrusher in to the dragonbone necklace to save an inventory slot!

I always use it as it's a pretty good ranged necklace

Beautiful video. I've been using the updated dragonbone necklace since the buff and been loving it. You can definitely tell the costs saved later down the road and also you guys know how much p pots are nowadays
not to mention it must be BIS for a lot of afk methods, and can be combined with the bonecrusher to save an inventory space.

Unless i'm missing something, the dragon sword is also the best stab weapon for limited defence accounts until you get a rapier.
Partially... Obsidian Sword(Toktz-Xil-Ak) with Berserker Necklace is superior. And honestly, with max gear and so forth... it's actually like the 4th BiS for DPS. Only outclassed by the Rapier, Blade of Saeldor, and Inquisitor's Mace for a 1h weapon. That said, Dragon Sword is an incredibly effective weapon and truly is underrated.

@@CelaMayne Yes and no. By actual DPS Zammy hasta is outclassed by the Obsidian Sword with the Berserker Necklace and the others mentioned. But yes, for a strong stab type weapon it is really good in general.

@@CelaMayne Well yes, superior to Dragon Sword for sure. But as mentioned Obsidian Sword with Berserker Necklace outclasses Zammy hasta and a much cheaper alternative. It's really why the tier systems need to be reworked a bit both buffing some stats but also adding new options for each.
The Soul Bearer has been pretty useless in my experience. For one thing, if you're doing a slayer task where you can get ensouled heads, just bring the runes to cast the reanimation spells with you, and use the heads immediately. Sending them to your bank for later is a waste unless you want to sell them instead. And even if you do want to sell them, the head drops are rare enough that you usually don't get more than one per trip anyway. The inventory slot you use for the soul bearer could have just been used to hold an ensouled head instead. It's a gamble whether it offers any benefit at all.
Then on top of that, every ensouled head it banks for you costs runes, and not cheap runes either.
All in all, it's rare I ever find myself in a situation where the ensouled head is beneficial.
Love using the ancient mace for NMZ and middle-of-nowhere slayer tasks, glad it got a mention in the list! 🔥
The leaf-bladed BA is a great mid-game weapon, it's super cheap with great stats.
They should create a Yak Dragon now. I’m convinced.

It is used in many places where stab is needed, but not enough budget. Often seen in raids and on many slayer tasks.
That would make d scim almost obsolete for mains.
you didnt mention the dragon mace also provides a very nice +5 prayer bonus! and dont forget its special attack +50% damage and +25% accuracy on next hit (25%)

Honorable mention to the Soul wars cape which has a +12 prayer bonus. Also, the ectoplasm store works on the barrows brothers.

The downside to Yak Armor is most pures or low combat levels don't have 20 def. Which is primarily where the main uses for the chaps come in at.
The Ectoplasmator was one of the first rewards I got from Soul Wars, it's been useful for numerous tasks on Slayer like Abberant Spectres, Shades, and Ankous.
One thing to note about the Spiky Vambraces, they are good if you're going for a cheap ranged option, but from a defensive standpoint Klank's Gauntlets or any of the Gauntlets from Family Crest offer superior defensive stats, minor melee improvements, and no negatives to range/mage making them arguably better for a lot of things.
The Dragonbone Necklace is great as well for situations where you are essentially Praying all the time. And it definitely is under utilized, but certainly not by me.
While Ancient Mace is useful for saving Prayer, both the Saradomin Godsword and Eldritch Nightmare Staff are better for it. The Ancient Mace's main usefulness though is going to your POH, using it on an Undead Dummy with Salve Amulet(e) and getting a max hit to restore prayer over maximum before going on a task or etc. Clans a long time ago used to pile on people in Multi with Ancient Mace after a D Spear spec to not only spec you out but drain your prayer completely. You often don't see it in use due to the statistical requirements for the quests in order to unlock it and considering how weak a weapon it is.
The Dragon Sword is certainly an excellent weapon. It's got a useful special attack, good stats, and very effective. Particularly with Slayer tasks that stab weapons are more effective if you don't have or wish to use a Dragon Spear/Hasta or a higher level alternative.
While Magic Dart is good and with the Upgraded Slayer staff, it is better. Iban Blast potentially is still cheaper in the long run IF you have a Tome of Fire as it uses no fire runes, just one death. Now, that being said the Slayer Staff(e) requires much higher level magic to equate to being better and with magic damage boosting items Iban Blast is still applicable.
Love the Ectoplasmator for my Deviant Spectres in the Catacombs of Kourend tasks, relatively AFK slayer with fantastic pray xp per task.
That's primarily why I have it. Plus I do a lot of Shades of Morton. It's been quite nice.
Another tip with ancient mace is to pot up and hit the combat dummy in your poh with the spec! Boosts your prayer over your current level.
Dont forget Samurai gear, the jester gear, and the cabbage round shield
Slayer staff (e) can also auto cast crumble undead, which can save you having to switch to your spellbook tab at vorkath

Klank’s gauntlets are hella good for ironman pre void grind for melee glove slot
Cooking gauntlets give the same strength bonus
Bloodbark boots are very cheap for the bonuses they give compared to other mage boots, good for a main since they're dirt cheap compared to the other boots. They also give a nice 1.5% bonus to healing with blood spells which is cool on some tasks.
Never knew about the Dragon Bone Necklace
It sounds like a better version of the Demon Horn Necklace from RS3, since the OSRS version has actual stats

Dude I cant find a list of all inventory saving items anywhere. I have the bolt pouch (most useless) Coal bag, loot bag, seed box, soul bearer, gem bag, key ring and herb sack, I did not know about the soul wars item. Gonna need that. Is there anything else tho (outside of baskets and fish barrel, which I need the later). Thanks for the video!

The saracnis cudgel is also an under rated weapon imo stronger than a d scim affordable and really good crush wepon. I believe it is same dps on gargs as whip and cudgel can train str

When making potions on my iron, I always use the Amulet of Chemistry when making most useful pots.
Ectoplasmanator+demon horn neck at ankous are a solid all round training method
Dragon hasta with its spec is op as heck for burst damage, costs bugger all as well
i still have a few necklaces of passages banked, the outpost teleport is nice for doing clues
Amulet of chemistry can actually be a loss on some potions while training. So its good to check the Wiki Herblore Training table, as it profits profit/xp comparisons with and without. More or less any potion 80+ is better to use it than not, but a lot of the early and middle level potions its *worse* to use for Profit (so for a main) and not really worth the hassle for irons, as it slightly lowers your XP/hr and increases effort.

The enchanted slayer staff is my weapon of choice at Scorpia, which I only really do on task anyway.

I haven't played since 2009-2010... I'm debating on playing again or not. The game is so different from when I last played. Hell when I left, I remember summoning in old school. Yaks were the best for storing extras ore and logs
If you do start playing again quests are a great way to start, you get to skip a lot of the early grinds for skills and the unlocks are super useful
Eh, Fury still has a whopping 6 more strength bonus than the Dragonbone Necklace and also a very respectable +5 Prayer bonus on its own. The slight prayer improvement is usually not going to be worth losing 1-2 max hits from the Fury. Unless you get 70 Prayer before being able to afford a Fury, then it's probably a decent alternative to Glory if you're afking Slayer or something.
fury costs 23x as much and you get pray points when bones are burried in addition to the +7 prayer bonus up from fury, you can probably just not bring prayer pots to monkeys when you chin or barrage
not really sure that an extra 1-2 max hit matters when you're doing regular slayer tasks, and you have a cannon, how many times do you expect to lose 1 whip hit because you were 1-2 damage off cause you didn't use fury

I always use to use klanks gauntlets in rs2 from underground pass quest. They have same stats as steel gloves I think.
Major noob here but why arent granite gloves mentioned anywhere , for gloves before barrows gloves? They've give hella strength, 7 I think.
I wonder what would happen if someone didn't do dragon slayer 1, but instead maxed all their combat stats, and got all best in slot items and then did the quest, I wonder how fast you can kill the dragon

Dragon mace is better dps or comparable dps than dscim and has +5 prayer making it bis until you get whip or lbaxe on slayer tasks that are weak to crush. Heavily used this during midgame gim
