Meet the updated Porsche 911!
Porsche has unveiled an updated version of its class-leading sports car, but this is no ordinary facelift. For the first time ever, the 911 has gone hybrid!
So apart from the changes under the skin, let’s see what else has been updated. Thankfully, not too much! Around the front, you’ll find a new set of LED matrix headlights, as well as an updated front bumper. Within it, you’ll find 5 vertical fins on each side, and these can open and close depending on whether the radiator needs cooling. There are new alloy wheel designs to choose from, and around the rear, you’ll find a tweaked light bar, as well as new vents behind the windscreen and a new rear bumper.
Step inside and there’s one notable change - the analogue rev counter has gone, with a fully digital driver display fitted instead. It looks pretty smart and comes with lots of different options, but it’s just not the same as a traditional rev counter! Otherwise, the interior is every bit as smart as you’d expect from a 911, with soft-touch materials throughout and a large infotainment screen on the dash.
When it comes to performance, only the new GTS comes as a hybrid. It’s now powered by a 3.6-litre flat-six with a single turbo, and this combines with the electric motor to produce 541hp and 610Nm of torque - that’s 61hp more than the previous GTS! Porsche claims it will be able to hit 60mph in just 3 seconds, and it also comes with a top speed of 194mph.
The new 911 range starts from £99,800. But if you’re looking to get your hands on the GTS, it will set you back at least £132,600! The question is, if you could, would you pay it? Or would you pick up a second-hand fully petrol-powered 911 instead? Let us know in the comments!

I honestly never liked the look of porches except the cayenne 😅. The round headlights just throw me off. To beetle-like
Some years ago a news from Porsche said that they will not retire ICE engine cars as long as there is a permanent ban on ICE and EV is the only thing.
WTH happened 😢???
They even got the Carwow female cowntdown voice for the drag race on the official Porsche channel. Insane how far they've gotten

getting rid of the twist start button is a big fat mistake
same goes for making gauges digital🥲
what is the point of doing the normal button. Twisting it is unique and is much more pleasant (out of experience) for any car enthusiast.. so the clientel of porsche buyers.
Really weird to simplify that.
Personally don't mind the gauges for this gen
I personally think the fake key is ridiculous and would love a start button
Yuck to all of this. Really glad I got my 718 GTS 4.0 with a manual transmission last year. I had a pining for a 911 at some point in my life but given where porsche seems to be heading, it looks like I’ll only be in the market for a 911 GT3 touring with the 6MT. And maybe they’ll take away the manual and add a start button to those too! Pity. But probably for the best in terms of my bank account. For the price of this hybrid 911 GTS with digital everything and a PDK I can get BOTH a Lotus Emira AND a Mazda MX-5 to add to the driving fun I’m already having in my Cayman.
@@arkachatterjee5179 sorry but, an emira is nice, and so is a 718 GTS 4.0, but nothing drives like a 911, I had a boxster GTS. The mx5 is a strange comment when you already have a drivers car 🤷🏻♂️
If Porsche says it’ll do 3sec flat from 0 to 62mph, i bet it will do 2.8 or sum. That’s actually insane for a GTS

As an engineer that’s what I’m thinking. The gills on the front and the other stuff don’t do much for everyday 911 drivers
"Blah blah blah blah blah blah....." You are just an uninformed trashtalker, dude! Shut up!
Transmission combined with electric motor in it sounds like a nightmare for servicing.
Honestly not good. I have a 992 GTS. Me, and many others have had battery issues with the lithium battery Porsche was using. I’m not sure if it has changed but if you check out some Porsche forums, many 992 owners have reported some difficulties. Generally, the 911 is a reliable car so long as you take care of it. The performance is amazing but as they get more advanced, it definitely has created some new issues that were not there with previous gens. I had to replace the battery on mine.
Mercedes amg one is hard to get but we have this expensive tec na ima go with normal turbo
The lack of analog rev-counter sucks
CLK-LM ironically still has rev counter analog.
Fantastic, but I wish they kept the analog gauge, it looked so good
If the carrera GTS got a 61 hp bump , the turbo S is going to be a absolute monster.
It will also get a 60hp bump
@@7ludi no, it would have 2 of those turbos. So it would easily be 90+ bhp.

@@burnttoast9890 okay, sure. You do understand that Porsche wants to keep existing in the future? The Cayenne saved the company and made cars like the Carrera GT and 918 possible.
Lowering the emissions in the 911 series is a great way to keep producing manual and NA engines.
@@iaintdonknow they make SUVs and hybrids that you have to buy to get allocated the GT3 you wanted in the first place. They don't give a crap about driving enthusiasts otherwise all the 911 models would have a manual option.
F1: We kick out the MGU-H cause the technology isn’t relevant for Road Cars.
Porsche: lets build a MGU-H into the new 992.2.
It was expensive and complex that's why. Not cause it wasn't road relevant. Having no zero lag and additional torque and power is good. Being expensive and complex isn't good especially when the sport wants to be economical.

Bit of a mixed bag for me I like the new rear lights more but the rear end looks better on the last gen 911 also I prefer the old tail pipes either they should be really close like the gt3 models or more separated kind of look a bit awkward in the current config. Those dynamic front intake fins don't look as good as the static 1s from prior gens but at least they are functional.
Its a real shame that Porsche has to drop the full ice engine but hopefully the hybrid system doesn't take the soul out of the 911 I mean it certainly didn't on the 918 Spyder I guess time will tell. No doubt it will be quite a lot faster in the straight line but the base 911s have never been about straight line so adding an extra 50kg is both impressive and also disappointing. Most drivers want less weight in there sports cars not more I guess they trying to please the grand touring crowd as well with the 911s so understandable since im sure the majority of 911 buyers are retired sunday drivers not track enthusiasts.

Dope to see Matt on the Porsche Premiere. Much love, can't wait to see it on our roads here in South Africa 🇿🇦 soon. That GTS aero dynamic feature in the front👌
Things like the analog rev counter and the starter knob made Porsches sepcial. Now even they are way too generic
right - when i found out why it was on the left it made it even more special
Made them feel dated. Glad that's all gone. Every time I get in my GTS I look at those things and sigh.
So the hybrid version gets a higher displacement engine? Nice to see some engine upsizing for a change, hopefully other manufacturers will do something similar.
fitting MGU-H on a consumer car is a baller move
No the F1 turbo compressors are still coupled via an extremely long machined and balanced shaft, the Porsche unit is basically an electric supercharger, and completely decoupled.
@@carlryan808 no, it's not, you're talking nonsense. They've actually uploaded a cut through of the turbocharger on the official press release where you can see the shaft. The electric motor is a brushless DC between the compressor and the turbine housing. Why spread incorrect info?
@@AutomotiveConcepts not talking nonsense, the fact about F1 is correct, I got it wrong about the current 911 Porsche turbo but know they have working on this very idea hence put 2 and 2 together to get 5.

If any rich builder from Pune or his son wants to buy it then please don't sell them 😭
The new GTS dumped the twin turbo from the old model for a single hybrid turbo which still outperforms the previous model with it's 2 turbos. But if Porsche were to find a way to keep and add two hybrid turbos in the 992.2 Turbo S and GT2RS, I believe they would create two absolute monsters. One will be an absolute supercar eater for the straight lines and the other might be an undisputed track weapon that will reclaim the ring record.

I see what you’ve done there with the targa. In its defense, the performance dip is small and there is no way, unless you’re in a track, that you’re going to notice a difference. The targa has a hard top which makes it good for winter, gives you the option to open the roof at least partially (enough, really), and is the best looking car there is.

I personally like some of the changes such as more power. But, as a current 992 Carrera S owner, I personally prefer my manual transmission. Obviously the PDK is faster, but the lack of a manual option in the 992.2 means it’s not for me.
I absolutely hate having to look at a blue screen as a rev and speed counter. The MX-5 and Porsche were the last sport cars to still go analog which makes a car age much better than fitting a screen.
Thanks Matt! Not a big fan of those vertical front grills! Yuck!
Can hardly tell the difference, good to see hybrid on a Porsche though, feel like your saving the planet without having to go full electric, price is a bit eye watering but that's to be expected I suppose!
Ohh wow, it looks the same. What a surprise
Interesting… So they’re baking the hybrid technology into the existing flat-six architecture. That’s very subtle of them.
This is everyone's childhood dream car
Wish they had made the 4-point matrix headlights more centrally evenly distributed round the lens rather than closer to the top half. The sign of an on-coming Porsche is not the same now. Really have mixed feelings on this new version.

Porsche is just so unique. You can’t compare any other brand with it.
And how long to wait for the dot-two Turbo S?
I wonder if hybrid turbos means no whistle and so you get torque of a turbo but sound of a n/a engine, that would be pretty cool
Are they only making 3 trim levels? No more S trim?
Easter egg: If you count the number of fins on the rear between the brake light there are 9 of them from left to right, plus the 2 brake lights = 911 and you could of course count them in the opposite direction too on the old 911. However for some reason Porsche decided to change this on the new model. Weird.
250K Euros for a loaded GTS Targa. Insanity. That's deep into previous Turbo territory.
How surprising, the new 911 looks just like the old 911.
