Let's not conflate the issue. This wasn't about a card game, it was just a wife who didn't really love her husband and was actively looking for ways to control him. He explained it pretty easily. When he focused on work, she was annoyed and wanted him to have fun. When he picked up a hobby, she was annoyed and wanted him to focus on work. Change the hobby, the results are the same. Just an unhappy person who felt trapped in their situation that they themselves created, and they gaslit their partner over and over until he finally gave up. That's all.
Exactly this, the wife is a horrific person and I feel like considering how ignorant they are about how much you actually earn from a 9-5 I doubt she was working a job herself
Bro has been active on RUclips for 15 years. He is completely dedicated to his passion, which I find tremendously impressive. It's a shame his ex-wife could not.
She didn't respect him in the first place. Thats it. If the man was actually making a living and she still saw it as a negative, even with what he was doing not being negative in of itself, she just didn't respect him. Period.
I think lots of women instinctively get the "ick" whenever their man isn't being productive and financially gainful. In it's crassist form, it's a mentality of "your primary value is to bring in money so if you're playing video games or taking a nap on a Saturday afternoon your existence is useless." Maybe her lady brain couldn't separate the "childish card game" from the "this card game pays the bills?"
I had a similar situation, but I wasn’t married; she was my girlfriend for 1.5 years. I used to play in a metalcore band, had lots of gigs, and really loved the culture, the music, and especially performing. However, she tried to manipulate me in a similar way. She asked me to leave the band, even though it never affected our relationship in any way. It felt like she didn’t want me to enjoy the things I loved in life. We broke up when she said she didn’t like my brother and wanted me to stop speaking to him. I don’t know what her intentions were, but it seemed like she wanted me to give up everything I cared about in life.
My ex was like this when I was a freshman in high school. I even remember stepping out of my comfort zone and going to an event that was set up for our ROTC class for her. I think it was a Ball of some kind which was a step out of my comfort zone due to how introverted I was. Fast forward to a few months, she starts making up all these lies about my friends and trying everything in her power to make me cut ties with them. She eventually broke up with me after an argument over the phone. After that, my friend invited me to play some Destiny and I told him what happened. After half an hour, I was happier again, his jokes always got a laugh outta me
All Yugioh jokes aside, my heart honestly broke for this guy. Been in a similar situation and his video really resonated with me. I hope he’s doing better these days
My husband is a huge nerd for halo, and I’m terrible at playing games. That being said I still buy him cool sets for holidays, watch him play from time to time, and even let him explain the lore and ask him questions about it even if I already know the answer. It’s not my passion, but it’s his, and seeing him light up when he engages in it makes him even more the person I love. It’s not hard to be supportive even if it’s not a shared interest.
The GALL of that woman to ask "Why you not paying the bills working your 9-5?" when his passion was already doing that for them! I hope this guy finds genuine love
It all boils down to image; clearly she felt embarrassed to ever mention that her husband was making money with "childrens card game" so she wanted to change him for HER benefit, not his, fuck those people
If you guys don't know. YourYugiohChannel was a huge pillar in Yu-Gi-Oh RUclips. Us in the community loved every video he put out and they're still classics till this day. He would frequently leave the scene in and out until he sold his channel to a friend and left completely. Years later he bought his channel back and would occasionally drop a video every blue moon. Until a few months ago he started uploading more, more vlogs than anything and that's when he dropped the bomb about his life and his current situation. The Yu-Gi-Oh community had no idea he was going through this and if we did we would've helped our brother out. (At least I'd like to believe it) Oh and how could I forget. He had to go on walks by himself to even make a video and express his emotions. He's the goat and will forever be YourYugiohChannel.
I had a similar situation with my ex-girlfriend and video games. She was the most selfish, horrible person I've ever dated. She didn't support me in what I was doing for fun despite having a full time job, spending time with her and still maintaining my responsibilities. Eventually I left and found a new relationship where my partner is similar to me and loves everything I'm into. If your partner hates your interests and wants you to change, then leave them and find someone better because you'll be happier single.
Being on the yugioh side of RUclips for the past 12 years Youryugiohchannel was so prolific and I always wondered what happened to him. I’m sad that happened to him but happy he has made a return. Thanks for covering Charlie
How rare is it to be able to support yourself doing something that you love. That is something to be celebrated, but instead she sabotaged it. How cruel.
So when she was with him, before he Quit RUclips he was paying all the bills, then when he did what she wanted, quit his passion and dream for a 9-5 she complained that he was no longer able to pay all the bills Solo?
@@DaMuss-e2w The 9-5 reality check hit her when she realized she had to do some actual work, instead of complaining all the time. Some people are just so spoiled.
I had an ex that hated me playing video games. It was like she didn't like how happy they were making me lol. She would tell me my online buddies weren't real friends (still talk to a handful of them today. We've known each other for 10 plus years) and that video games were a waste of time. Even hit me with the "you could do something so much better with your time" as i would work 10 plus hours a day so my time was already kind of limited for myself. She then would then sit on the couch, scroll refreshing Instagram while reality shows were in the background....for hours lol. Needless to say...she's an ex for a reason.
Technically, every hobby can be considered a "waste of time", but if it's something that you're passionate about, you find enjoyment out of, and its JUST a hobby and not an addiction, then I say F what the haters say. I've been gaming for as long as I can remember and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I'll never understand why there's some folks out there who crap on someone else's passion because THEY don't understand it.
I'm going to guess that your wife didn't like you playing video games because it took your attention away from her (regardless of what she was doing). My ex hated me reading, he said I was ignoring him. I had to wait until he was asleep & read in bed with a flashlight...because heaven forbid I didn't go to bed when he did. It isn't what we're doing that upsets these people, it's that we're doing it.
Online friends are the best, because there is no obligation to meet up and when we do it's always really exciting. I was the best man in one of my online friend's wedding and another online friend provided me with a job. No "real" friend has done shit for me, they can just keep them all to themselves 😂
I seriously feel for this guy. I just got divorced after barely a year of marriage and not even after my son turned 1. DO NOT let anyone control you. 10yr relationship, 1yr of marriage and not even a year after my son was born and tried to control my life and my interests and hobbies.
A lot of the times it’s the girls friends telling the wife or girlfriend he’s not enough cause they compare guys based off their relationships or online relationships. My buddy broke up with his girl cause the girlfriend didn’t like he worked at a convenience store which he owned. He’s Indian and all her friends made fun of him being Indian and going the stereotype route. What’s funny is he’s the most wealthy out of all her friends but all they see is a man taking orders from customers. She regrets it now cause he owns 4 liquor stores with slots plus 2 franchise subways. Also he has full custody of the kid they had. After they broke up she ended up marrying a wanna be rich guy that was selling meth
My best friend and his wife were together for awhile as well had a kid together she's like 6 I think now but they got married last year and I won't go into details but to sum it up my buddy told me "this has been the worst year of my life" and the sad part is he loves his wife and loves family life. But after they got married she started acting waaaaaay different.
This is why I choose to be single and rejected by women instead of finding validation. For example, women finds men unattractive or.. dislikes men when they wear cartoon t-shirts or any other TV shows. Are you kidding me?!?!? What attracts women are stuff that doesn't attract men's interests. That's the problem.
Sorry to hear that i really hope you can find true happiness and make it work so your child doesnt have to suffer due to this. I also wanted to ask so would it be better to keep somethings from your partner? Like have a dedicated (to some degree) time just for yourself lets say like 2 hours twice a week (just an example doesnt have to be so strict). For me i used to love gym and working out my partner didnt and i used to get ridiculed and guilt tripped that im not spending time with her after work or not enough time. So eventually in the 2 year relationship i completely stopped gyming to spend time, which used to just end up us going out drinking or netflixing. I regret giving up because i lost so much more than just health, it was my way to destress, was getting really good at it wish i didnt compromise on it. And yes i did try get her to come with me to gym but yeah didnt last long. However i supported her passions and hobbies even though i had zero interest in some of them. Lesson learned i guess.
Btw he is one the OG yugitubers of back in the day. Dude would play yugioh and play saxophone to make money while going to college. He has probably highest respects of the yugitubers out there. Dude is an incredibly sweet guy
yea youryugioh channel was great! and it's a MELLOPHONE! I remember him doing a video about the instrument he would play, and the forest videos where he would go in the middle of the forest like some serial killer (and talk about yugioh) haha good times. He also set up Drew to be a yugituber, the "yugioh hustler", and his red eyes deck!
Hes going to find a girl who loves Yu'Gi-Oh and be a side character to his channel and it's going to be soooo wholesome and adorable its going to make his evil crazy ex jealous and then she's going to want to start any drama she can
I use to be in a relationship like this. I loved running and I would go out and hike and run all the time. My now ex hated it because she couldn't hike or run. She figured that since she can't do these things like I could, she made me feel bad for doing it. Eventually when I would go run or hike, she would do other things.. including mess around with other guys. Glad she's not in my life anymore
yup people that are obsessed with optics and appearances dont do shit in their free time, its why theyre always bored and always trying to stay busy with a packed social calendar.
@ very true. My best friend would always say hes busy. In his mind he thought he was making money moves. He was just laying down in his room watching tv. Like stop fooling yourself.
Me n my wife constantly goof about eachothers hobbies. We'll call each other nerds while basking in the happiness that comes one another enjoying themselves. Love seeing her happy, and she loves seeing me happy.
This is beautiful, I hope I can find that kind of happiness someday because thats exactly what I want in a relationship. Even if our hobbies couldnt be more different, so long as we respect it and enjoy seeing our hobbies give us happiness, ill be content.
@@tepigninja7198 don't marry someone you hate. Sounds simple enough, but it's true. Be willing to learn and grow from each other while also remaining individuals.
Same here, I used to watch this guy all the time. Hadn't seen him a long time and then this video popped up on my feed randomly. Feel really bad for him.
His wife basically wanted to change his former pastimes altogether, including the game. Luckily, the heart of the cards won in the end & he's back on the grind.
Not just his pastimes but everything about him. She didn't like his interests, his education, his way of living or making money, etc. So what did she like? It just seems like their values didn't align anywhere.
I experienced this with my own wife, but with a different hobby. I was into working on cars after work and my wife HATED it. She didn’t want me focusing my time on something that wasn’t her. I ended up paying for my wife to get therapy because she realized she was insecure in the marriage and wanted constant validation and attention from me. Now she understands that hobbies are important and she has her own hobbies now too besides just focusing on me.
I’d like to hear her side of the story. It’s very easy to make someone the villain when we only have one pov, maybe he’s omitting a lot of his behavior and actions. I doubt it’s that black and white.
The thing about partners who insist you change is that, usually, it never ends. You change one thing, and then they find something else they want to change. If they don't like the person you are, you need to find someone who does.
Bro has been on the RUclips grind for 15 years. He is absolutely dedicated to his passion and I find that incredibly admirable. Shame his ex-wife couldn't.

I had a childhood friend who was a huge nerd, he used to like anime, video games, lord of the rings, marvel/DC stuff.. He was the nicest guy I've ever met in my life! Dude was so cool people would be calling him asking to hang out daily! VERY nice guy! But then he started dating some girl back in 2006~7.. And the girl made him go to the church, made him stop watching anime and all the stuff he loved.. He couldnt even go out with his friends because she was that type that would coltrol everything about the dude... I literally just saw my friend becoming another person through the years.. Then he started getting depressed, he got skinny AF.. And when he fell ill around 2010 the girl left him.. He died in 2012.
Sorry to hear about your friend. It's infuriating to hear that someone let someone else take control of their life like that. All for the irrational fear of being alone for a little longer.
sorry about your friend but that partner was a parasite taking all his life and happiness until he has nothing left and sadly died and left him for another person to take another persons happiness.
I broke up with a girl a while back. She said I was difficult to train but she would break me eventually. She was a bit drunk during this confession. I asked what she was training me to do. She said to do whatever the hell she says. I broke up with her right there. Nobody needs that kind of crazy.

I once was with a woman who convinced me it was time to grow up and I sold my collection of games from various systems and eras, some really rare (estimated 2500 CDN) and sold it for not even enough to pay for a months rent at the time , $700 CDN . NEVER AGAIN!!! Ive unfortunately abandoned the gaming collection but do own a rare *new* 3ds XL Hyrule Edition , an official N64 wireless controller and I started new collections that are pretty admirable now like my comicbook collection, rock collection, model kit collection and power ranger collection :) Never let anyone do anything like this to you!! Let yourself be yourself !!
I had this issue with an ex who saw my comic collection and first response was "When I move in we can get rid of all this, the library has all the books you need." Yeah I made up my mind pretty much then.
It's wild how narrow-minded and clueless some people are about various hobbies. They see comics and think "oh those are just books, like any book", and assume that both you and the hobby are that shallow and a library is all you need. That's like telling your SO who likes to cook that they don't need a stove or cookware because McDonald's is around the corner; it totally misses the point. Glad you dodged that bullet.
@@fungisrock8955 Tbf I did have a collection of books as well, just not as much as comics, but yeah she never truly understood that it was my hobby, I brought it up later and I told her I hoped she was joking about getting rid of my collection, cause it was important to me. I told her I attach a lot of memories to each thing I read, my dad bought me some of the books in my collection and the comics I got were at different periods of growth in my life. Its kinda a physical reminder of my personal life for me. She thought that was silly and it pretty much put a nail in any future together. Yeah I love cooking as well and have had a situation like that arise as well 🤣, I genuinely like to eat for enjoyment, not just sustenance and I like being creative with cooking.

Like for real, a woman having a complaint over how her man makes money and then degrades him by doing it is not a woman you should be sharing your life with. She was a real Continuous Trap Card and costed him 2000 Life Points every turn.
A terrible side effect of this is it wasn't just _her_ opinion of him that was low, in forcing him to go back to school when he kept failing no matter how many semesters he paid for, friends started to look at him as if he were just lazy. It's depressing she seemingly wanted him to be "normal". Normal job, normal transportation, normal appearance in general. She didn't respect him in the first place. Thats it. If the man was actually making a living and she still saw it as a negative, even with what he was doing not being negative in of itself, she just didn't respect him. Period.
Excatly shes just dosrespectful and evil for making him drop his hobby
This don’t if your love it and making money. She definitely didn’t need to be there ever.
Exactly but she probably the type of woman to praise a woman making a living on Onlyfans.
She was probably embarrassed of him. Her friends probably made comments about how her husband looks childish and weak.
Yu-Gi-Oh did not make that crazy lady cry. She made herself cry in an attempt to emotionally manipulate him.

Hit the nail on the head
Sounds like she was a legit psycho. Good on you for leaving that behind
You made a good decision to leave her. Sounds like she wanted to isolate you from any sense of community

That’s everything a spartan could want
The GALL of that woman to ask "Why you not paying the bills working your 9-5?" when his passion was already doing that for them! I hope this guy finds genuine love

(At least I'd like to believe it)
Oh and how could I forget.

He's come back to making videos again which is great
Surprisingly, I hadn't heard of him despite 9 years in the community, but he has my attention.
I watched this a couple weeks ago. Didn’t expect to see it here. Hopefully this gets him better exposure.
Of all hobbies tbf gaming is cheapest 😂 kinda. She'd really have something to bitch about if it was fishing cause that is not a cheap hobby
Living itself is wasting time if we boil it down.
Online friends are the best, because there is no obligation to meet up and when we do it's always really exciting.

Well the first year your child is born is an extremely important time to be present for your partner and baby instead of focusing on yourself

Breakdown of the video; “My wife divorced me because I was happy and made money with my hobby”

He got a full 9-5 taking a _paycut_ and spent years trying to get his degree to make her happy, but people only saw his failure and assumed he had poor work ethic and just didn't care.

@@dubbyplays You kinda make that sound like adhd make you unable to get through school or collage.
@@dubbyplays Forcing school on people who don't want to do school should be a crime. Some people on the spectrum go just fine in school, and some really do enjoy school. I remember dating one woman and she asked what I wanted for my birthday.
When I told her (either video games, or warhammer stuff) she said “I’m not getting you that because that’s a dumb hobby.”
Then she complained about not being able to come up with anything to buy me.

Pot of Greed with only one card left so you lose

@@phabidz that's not how that works lol. the effect is to draw 2, whenever you are unable to resolve the effect of a card then you cannot legally activate that card, its like activating a card to summon something from the grave with no monsters in the grave. if an effect to draw 2 is activated then there must be at least 2 cards in the deck to legally activate it. the only way to lose to pot of greed is if you activate it and then your opponent chains something like hand destruction to make you draw 2 cards first then pot of greed resolves with no cards left in the deck and you get game loss

Telling other people about your partner and if you think its not that good, you will try to change it so that other people(this includes friends, acquaintances, family, etc.) will think better of you.
Thats where the wrong part came in, thinking about other people first instead of your partner.
I found this video a few days ago as well and thought it was a troll but it’s really interesting. I’m sure he was relieved venting on RUclips and a lot of people understanding.
You have avoided the biggest trap card of your life..
Nobody cares⚡⚡
Facf
can you really say he avoided it if he was in the marriage in the first place
❤
@SirFunky I mean he got out of it before he let it destroy him internally. She definitely would've created further misery so I would say he avoided one.
That's a very unfortunate situation for that guy. I used to watch him back in the day and I even met him in person at a SCJ(modern day YCS). He seemed like a nice person and he really enjoyed playing music and Yugioh.
the way she told him to "Find a hobby" after forcing him to drop his hobbies made my facepalm so hard
what a manace
It's depressing she seemingly wanted him to be "normal". Normal job, normal transportation, normal appearance in general. It probably looked wrong to her him making money through a card game and preforming on the street. He was happier and financially better off before being forced into this normality. But seeing him happy wasn't good enough. That's a major red flag.
It's such a weird response to see someone with a peaceful, humble life and want to "fix" them. The only thing I could think of is jealousy.
@@Nickel1768 What's super weird to me is car fixation. Cars are objectively horrible investments because they never appreciate. The only exception is if you get extremely lucky and buy a vehicle that is now considered a classic, and can find a collector to sell it to, after constantly maintaining it and making sure it doesn't seize up for decades. His wife didn't care about any form of wellness, including financial. She wanted a husband that she could parade around as a status symbol and nothing more.
@@Nickel1768 It's probably a fixation on social status. She wants somebody that will impress people for her, and his nerdy hobby was at odds with that.
His lifestyle sounds too tier tbh seems healthier mentally especially ❤
@@alliinase9076 thats facts some women want to flex their husbands status to their friends and social media those people are major red flags, we live to live not to impress.

IT’S TIME TO D-D-D-D-D-D-D-DIVORCE
why marry someone who literally try’s to change you? why marry someone who told you upfront that your hobby is weird or whatever…that’s the red flags run away
I've also been through this kind of relationship where my ex try to change everything I do. Maybe It's the same situation as I am, at the earlier years of dating she's just fine with my hobbies and lifestyle but as the years past she slowly try to change me, until it became over controlling, always trying to guilt me and question my commitment everytime I try to defend myself
Because men are desperate and truth be told even after seeing it happen to others we would probably still fall for it lmao
manipulation
@ see now that sucks, she showed her true colors after pretending it was okay, but idk if i misheard i thought he said she knew and still proceeded to marry her after she said it was weird. your situation is very valid and it sucks that can happen in relationships. but this relationship seems like he knew she wasn’t happy with it and she keep trying to change him and he still married him even when her own parents didn’t want her too! why ever ruin your own happiness for someone who truly ain’t happy with you?
@@jujukelly3611 oh I didn't catch that, yeah If he already knew it's a different situation than mine

I have very huge respect for that man to be so vulnerable and open that takes a lot of heart.❤
Relationships are built on mutual respect, if she doesn't have respect for his hobbies then she is toxic. It's that simple.
Damn, even Exodia can't counter the Divorce card. Ironically, I don't even like Yu-Gi-Oh but I wouldn't do something like that to someone who does. Everyone has a hobby.
If she’s not contributing to the money aspect of the marriage what say does she have controlling in how he makes his money. She should be grateful that he has a good job to afford what he once could’ve. I work in the trade field 9-5 mostly 6 days of the week if I could trade it by staying home creating ideas on videos to make I would. She’s ungrateful and I’m glad he left her. He deserves better
the main reason i as a gamer wife cant make other female friends is because alot of women truly see me as a child. they think me playing games like red dead instead of watching the sopranos on my ass all day makes me childish. i cant imagine how they feel about men
yeah, its hard out here, we are not even allowed to have hobbies, such as playing video games, otherwise we need to find something that isn't "childish"
Kinda has me scared being 20yo and a guy. Especially since my family is so dead set on me getting a degree at college *despite the fact I suffered major burnout and a near dip in mental sanity* and having just a small bit of fun with games is an issue. Makes me wonder if that's going to get far worse when the time comes that I meet someone...
I am glad I feel like for people a tiny bit younger now like me at 22 it's way more accepted now regardless of gender. My friends regardless of if they are boy or girl there's usually plenty of games or other stuff we can do and just have fun. Same as no one has ever seen my girlfriend playing games as weird, it's just normal nowadays at least where I live
I promise you there are A LOT of girls who also play video games as a hobby all over the place. :) If you keep running into folk who think you're childish for enjoying a legitimate hobby, they not your people. There's guys and gals out there that only know how to tear down, not build up. You'll find your people soon!
"i can't imagine how they feel about men" they hate them, or at least that appears to be the case. a lot of women seem to be salty/jealous for no reason, especially if youre not single and happy about it
