When an acoustic group plays into one microphone, perfectly tuned, perfectly aligned; there is created another frequency besides those made by the individual instruments. A the Station Inn (45 yrs ago in N’ville), we always noticed this and called it God’s Additional. This song and these musicians tap into to that and it captured live, for us all to experience. This is how Real Music was presented- in this digital age, we do not have this, although we have wonderful advancements (think Steely Dan, Toto, etc), but here, for three short minutes, we get to step back in time, and experience God’s Additional, and it is a thing of perfection. Making this ‘The Perfect Song’. Congrats to Dave & Gillian who have left the conventional music industry and recaptured the Real Source of Music.
I love at 0:36 when Gil comes in singing, David looks at the engineer and gestures for her to get closer to the mic and she does, they don't miss a beat. That's what professionals look like, folks

Watched the beginning of The Gentleman, heard a few lines of this song, grabbed the guitar, went here, played along and got it, now have to nail down the lyrics. Just a flat-out powerful ballad from the get-go. Fantastic and fun to play at the campfire this summer. Pure Americana.

There's always that one live, acoustic version that's a million times better than the studio version even though the studio version is already awesome. That's because the musicians can really connect and play off each other's energy.... God dammmmn goosebumps even after the 50th time on repeat ❣️❣️❣️😊
Among other pleasures here, dig those harmonies. I was about to say that’s the kind of match you get with siblings and then I remembered David and Gillian have a different kind of relationship.

Traveling makes me anxious - I hate breaking set routines even for something fun like traveling for work or leisure, but, right when I walk out the door or arrive at the airport I'll play this and it cures the anxiety immediately - bring on the Cumberland gaps.
Call me whatever you want but David and Gillian look so similar I thought they’re brother and sister at first. Thanks the Gentlemen for making me know these two great artists. They’re wonderful. Their music is with me almost every day since I watched the movie. Cumberland Gap is just a tip of the iceberg…

I am not one who uses the word perfection loosely infact rarely but David & the band here definitely accomplished that as there is NOTHING anyone could to improve upon this song that wouldn't detract from it as it is ! Great job and thanks to David, band and the Current for bringing it to us 😎.
A friend is descended from some of the earliest European settlers of Kentucky (Martins?) and had me read up on it. I guess for a while Kentucky was promoted as a nearly Edenic paradise; mild(ish) climate, fertile soil, productive woods, plentiful game, plenty of rivers and other water, and a native population that, if not always welcoming, at least fell on the good side of the welcoming/kill ya on sight dichotomy. So the trail was a big deal. Rawlings and Welch frequently have an insightful understanding of history, as here.
It's haunting. It keeps intruding into my mental background, like an earworm, but really good. So I keep coming back and listening to it, over and over.
