    Possibly their best RUclips performance - the venue and the closeness and attentiveness of the audience seems to have had a remarkable impact on the intensity of this amazing song's performance. Dave's solo is a mind blower and Gillian's singing and zen-like rhythm playing is absolutely breathtaking.

    • @kerthgersen3163
      @kerthgersen3163 7 лет назад +5

      "Zen-like". Nice. It shows that perfection is better attained by simplicity than complexity, not to mention the 'beefy' Gibson sound completing the sonic spectrum with David's Epiphone.

    So hauntingly beautiful, it’s like thousands of years of human collective consciousness went into this song because the perfect dissonances create such an emotional reaction that the words are superfluous, ultimately. One hears the chords and immediately understands that the song is about suffering and not wanting to anymore, ever again.

    • @brucekreitzberg7876
      @brucekreitzberg7876 Год назад +2

      That was nicely written. Lyrically, I think some of the words harken to both great moments and some of their worst, like being called a fake or an imitator just because she chose to play music she was not raised around. I suspect that was painful for her for a while, but she has continued doing what she loves and cares for and millions have enjoyed it. I think she's the bee's knees and David Rawlings is too.

      @@davidlowney634 I guess you're on the same wave length as Spock - he would always reply to Captain Kirk, "That's illogical" about any 'sayings' he couldn't understand. Here's the skinny - Words are turned on their heads by the young, and end up with the opposite meaning. Or, sometimes it's by locale. That's what happened to the word "sick." The word "wicked" means evil, but here in the greater Boston area, it's means real good or real cool...,as in "That clam chowdah was wicked good." I'm old too, so I won't say - OK Boomer................OK Boomer?

    I'm so glad the polite British crowd doesn't feel the need to yell "WOOO!" after (or during) every solo like they do here in the States. Rawlings' harmony is so close to Gillian, it's a mystery how he does it. It doesn't follow any conventional norms of harmony. Brilliant. I saw them live, and they were just this good.

      Rawlings incorporates a lot of harmonics that are seldomly used in popular music, for instance the 9th (?) on the opening notes of this song. I can see why it would be perceived as "unconventional".

    2007, I've watched this entire session hundreds of times by now, and I still have no idea how they do this live.... It's just brilliant, I'm so in awe of Rawling's guitar playing. He's doing such complex stuff, and only flubs one or two notes in the whole piece. Just amazing.

    Just in case...
    Darling remember when you come to me
    I'm the pretender and not what I'm suppose to be
    But who could know if I'm a traitor?
    Time's the revelator
    .
    They caught the Katy and left me a mule to ride.
    The fortune lady came along and she walked beside
    And every word seemed to date her
    Time's the revelator, the revelator
    .
    Up in the morning, up and on the line
    Drive into Corning, and all the spindles whine
    And every day is getting straighter
    Time's the revelator, the revelator
    .
    Leaving the valley, fucking out of sight
    I'll go back to Cali where I can sleep out every night
    And watch the waves and move the fader
    Time's the revelator, the revelator
    .
    Queen of fakes and imitators
    Time's the revelator.
