Yeah, I really felt that too. I just wish the developers gave as much respect to the characters and the story as they did in all the other games. The game could have been as revered as a Halo 3 (I love halo 3, but I just thought that it fell short of the hype that was built up) if not better as the core of MGS is built around complex characters reacting to complex situations with you having to act upon new situations and overcoming odds. This one delivered on the technical side with gameplay and at the time graphics (although almost all of the levels had the gross saturation that even the previous games didn't always have). Even so, the dialogue and characters (who were previously enjoyable as they were always presented as government enigmas), were given predictable lines and were ultimately made forgettable. Such a shame as the core (like you said) concept of old heros accepting their ends was great, but the hype built up after mgs2 with the uncovering of the patriots felt so short lived and nothing was done to act on that. Instead MGS3 took the time to create and develop all the characters who would be involved in the patriots and the rest was told in cutscenes and some PSP games. This game was truly a tragedy of the gaming industry along with silent hill and later (until recelty) half life and halo. I guess we need to move on though. Who know. Maybe we'll get a MGS remake. Although, I guarantee that the core of the games will be lost unless someone new, who understands the source material (not Kojima sadly as we saw what he did to mgsv and Death stranding) takes over. Still, corporate overlords at Konami will have none of it. A real tragedy.
@@gabrielrodriguez6936 Kojima takes the essence of MGS to the grave. Unless he gets with a publisher who gets the license from Konami, we will never see a true MGS game ever again. He is being cock-blocked by coporatism..
@@awilywolf While brilliant, Kojima is an egotist and I don't think that he could make another metal gear game with the same quality as the original msx and 1-3. He had tried to get rid of David Hayter throughout the series for a Hollywood celebrity. He got what he wished for with Norman Reedus, but based on Kojima's recent works, I don't think that he'll meet the standards being set anymore. Death Stranding wasn't bad by any means, but it was clear that Kojima has lost his touch. His original works will be revered, and for good reason.
@@gabrielrodriguez6936 I feel a lot of this blowback against Kojima really revolves around the impression of the general gaming populace that MGS was all Kojima could do. People kinda boxed him in their mind's eye as the guy that had to do epic, cinematic, convoluted, red herring, military espionage tales. He did that for the vast majority of his time with Konami. He branches out under ambigous and still not emntirely illuminated circumstances to do his own shit with his own studio. Death Stranding was an overblown walk-a-thon, but it was also somewhat of an experiment in game design. Personally, it was not one that worked entirely for me. But just because I personally feel it didn't work overall, I still perceived aspects of Kojima's idiosyncratic narrative construction and experimentation within it - especially related to the Mads Mikkelsen character and development. I think the vast majority of what made the classic MGS series so engaging comes from Kojima. He may or may not need to be reigned in by a studio or other restrictions so he doesn't become some pompous auteur renagade. However, he is no longer subject to those contraints with the formation of his own studio. He will likely be a force unto himself from now on unless he burns bridges over time through arrogance and self-perceived importance or entitlement. His creativity and writing has evident potential to be amazing, it's just about how that obvious talent manifests itself and what complimentary and countering mechanics need to be in place to focus that talent.
My issue with MGS4 is how the Beauty & Beast Corps don’t really have any interesting characters to them. They’re tragic backstories are just explained by Drebin after you kill them, and the morals are all just “war is bad and torture sucks”. You get no interesting character interactions with them, like the FOXHOUND members of MGS1 or Deadcell members like Fortune in MGS2

I've often thought of building Snake's M4 Custom as an AR15 build. I've got the specs for the rifle on a note pad file. Although I would go a step further and put a 6.5 Grendel barrel in it, considering how in game the soldiers Snake fights are using nanomachines to stop blood loss and numb pain. In the harder difficulties I would usually put the M4 as a back up gun and use the M14 EBR as my primary cause the soldiers were so hard to put down with 5.56. So I would take a more realistic approach to Snake's M4 by giving it a 6.5 Grendel cartridge, which would no doubt just tear PMC's and the Frogs apart had his rifle been chambered for it in game. This is all just talk as it will be a long while before I can get around to the build but I do have it in the back of my mind!
