Metal Gear Solid 2 is a once in a lifetime video game, nothing as special will ever come out, with the same budget, talent, passion and sales all merging together perfectly, at the right place and the right time (the PS2's launch)
***** 3:02 is also my favorite part. The way the flutes kick in, it's perfect. Would i kill to be at a symphony playing this track. So epic at 3:23 when the choir kicks in on top of that
Those good old days ... I would give my own life just to go back in time, have the chance to sit right next to my grandma one more time and watch my brother play.
MGS 2 was the first Metal Gear I ever played. I was completely and utterly confused by it, but holy shit was I captured by it. All the themes about the blending of physical reality with virtual reality was so far ahead of its time. The first game I ever played that "messed" with the player in any way. I'll never forget that damn Game Over screen and Major Campbell losing it, first time I played that my 12 year old mind thought the whole game was crashing.
Best one imo is metal gear solid, even to this day i woudl recommend you to play it, it has the best story of all MG series. But i did enjoyed a lot MGS 2, it continues very well the story of the mgs1, i just didn't like some crap about incest and some kojimas stupid details they added, but that's it.
idklol THIS WAS THE FIRST METAL GEAR SOLID GAME I PLAYED TOO!! I loved it so much and I would play over and average again until the old console broke... that was the saddest day of my life...
The truth, then? Us politicians aren’t so trustworthy, we’ll steal, make shit up, even lie to our voters! I know it’s very hard to believe, but that’s just what the USA is all about Jack. Not hiding our theft and murder, but embracing it. Whether it’s votes, whether it’s money - especially money. Fuck all these limp dick RUclipsrs and chicken shit Redditors. Fuck this 24/7 internet spew of Discord and Vtuber BULLSHIT! I’m going to build a new future, Jack. One where we don’t have to hide our stealing from anyone, and for that, I want you by my side. To build a world truly free from the consequences of our actions, just like the founding fathers intended. What do you say, Raiden? Why not try to say it, just once?
Lore-wise, Metal Gear is seamless. Up there with Silent Hill, Fallout and Elder Scrolls. So intense, so propelling, so interesting and rewarding. Just perfect.
As someone who has always avoided stealth games, the MGS series was amazing. I love how tightly designed it’s levels and gameplay were. It also had cool villains and stories.
Try Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory It's a bit different from MGS as it's pure stealth instead of stealth action. No boss fights, just straight up stealth. I personally love stealth games because I just love the feeling of sneaking around and beating enemies through wit rather than strength. It's a shame the genre is pretty much dead because modern gamers are far too impatient to carefully sneak through a level. Nowadays we only have games with "stealth elements" where the levels are not built around stealth and you're usually better off just going in guns blazing.
The Vita was definitely under looked and overly criticized if people (haters that wont buy it) shut the hell up and just ask for more features and a better price on the sim cards, Sony would definitely would made the changes.
"I'm not gonna sit around while they butcher kids up and ship their parts around like meat, it makes me sick." "It's not all so simple Raiden, they acquire those brains legally, for medical purposes. It's all done-" "Being legal doesn't make it right" (I know it's from Rising not MGS 2, but it's still one of my favorite conversations that Raiden has)
Yesterday was the first time I acted in a spectacle. It was thrilling to feel all worries rush away each time I had to play my roles. When we were done and the audience started clapping I felt a high a human can so rarely feel, and guess what, as I walked out of the hall this song was what started playing in my mind. What a great tune. Outstanding.
"Life isn’t just about passing on your genes. We can leave behind much more than just DNA. Through speech, music, literature and movies... what we’ve seen, heard, felt anger, joy and sorrow, these are the things I will pass on. That’s what I live for. We need to pass the torch, and let our children read our messy and sad history by its light. We have the magic of the digital age to do that with. The human race will probably come to an end some time, and new species may rule over this planet. Earth may not be forever, but we still have the responsibility to leave what trace of life we can. Building the future and keeping the past alive are one in the same thing." - Solid Snake
After playing MGSV, I've been thinking about the series as a whole, and I've come to the conclusion that my favorite in the entire series is MGS2. Why? Well... Every MGS game, (except MGSV), is almost perfect, each one mastering something specific. However, what makes MGS2 so amazing to me is how much it pushed every single limit a game could have. For 2001, its graphics were fucking amazing, to the point that they still hold up relatively well today, its gameplay improved on everything MGS1 had, and of course, it had its story. The story is what's most important in a Metal Gear game, and I think MGS2 has the best in the series. With MGS2, Kojima convinced the entire world that Solid Snake would be the main character, but then, just as the story reached a point of great tension, he unveiled to the world that it wasn't Snake as the main protagonist, but Raiden. While I don't like him as much as Snake, Raiden was absolutely ESSENTIAL to this game's perfection. He provided a way for the player to feel as if they were fighting alongside of Snake, while also being an interesting character in his own right. He was also a method for Kojima to teach us not to believe everything the media tells you, as it can lie and censor the truth; this entire idea is the main plot focus for this game. Not only does MGS2 supply a major twist in the beginning, the entire game itself begins to turn around as you discover the truth of what's going on in the world, who the true villains behind everything are, and how everything in the game was all created to prove how powerful the Patriots were. The Patriots were a perfect villain, unknown and mysterious, their identities never discovered,(until the sequels, but they weren't meant to happen originally, meaning that the Patriots were originally meant to be as mysterious as they were terrifying), yet their logic completely sound and chillingly understandable, too. The other main antagonist, Solidus Snake, turns out to have a good motive, desiring to create the America the Framers wanted. Everything comes together in a series of insanely complex events that leave you wondering who the true heroes and villains were, and how much you'd just seen had really happened. MGS2 is Kojima's true Magnum Opus. MGS1, 3, 4, and PW are all brilliant, but this is where the series was originally meant to end. This is when Kojima was at his most passionate, at his most filled with artistic vision. This is the game that surprises you with literally EVERY turn. This is the game that made you not only question the game itself, but also the world around you; how much of what we see is censored? And if it is censored, how would we even know it was? That's why MGS2 is not only my favorite MGS game, but also my favorite game of all time. MGS2 is proof that video games are not only art, but can take on the highest form of art. They require love, care, and perfect planning; they require a vision of the world around it, they need great music, great visual art, beautifully-woven stories. MGS2 has all of this. All of the MGS games (except MGSV) have this. But out of all of them, MGS2 challenges the player's mentality the most, makes them question the most. MGS2 is something everyone who considers themselves a fan of great art, literature, or video games should play; its controls may be a BIT wonky at times, but when you get past that, you'll find one of the greatest, if not THE greatest game ever made.
finally someone who thinks the same way as me! Btw, Raiden si a wonderful character, just think of the conversation with rose a out his room! He`s an idiot, especially in the first part of the game, but then, the more you get into the story, you really start to appreciate him if you understand him
dont know why you shit on MGSV so much, ive played every etal Gear game and beat them all as well apart from portable ops. to say MGSV doesnt have amazing music, a beautiful world and the story to wrap it all up to bring you into the eyes of young snake in outer heaven. While MGS1 will always be my favorite, the "Solid" series was incredible, individually and together.
MGSV is great. Idk why you contrarian dumbasses have to shit on the most modern installment of every game franchise ever, but the gameplay of MGSV alone places it up there with the best of the series in terms of mastery, just mastery of gameplay rather than narrative. People like you are the same people who'd shit on MGS2 back in the day.
My husband has played all the metal gear solids and he loves them so much he cried when it all ended as he always says snake is not dead he lives in all of us and there he will stay in our hearts where he will live forever
You could buy an Aya Neo, One X Player or Steam Deck and put emulators on it. That’s the only way to have the series on a capable portable gaming device. The vita can only do so much.
More than thirty years ago i used to walk during school break with best friend while he describe to me the new epic msx game mg and day by day he describe the new stages in game he reached .5 years forward i acquired it. Used to have dreams at night about mg with real life graphics . 30 years ff and the graphix of the game are really better than my childhood sleep dreams . Was a die hard fan and now at age of 45 still a die hard hideo fan.. great thing to watch game industry come this far. keep the great work bro kojima we all love u
"I pay money to my ex-wife as part of our divorce settlement, among other bills...I just had no choice but to make you pay for lunch the other day. I'm really sorry."
I never noticed a fault in MGS2 and I hated it when I first played it. Literally, I hated the MGS genre until I saw gameplay footage of MGS4. It looked amazing. So I went and gave MGS2 another chance and enjoyed it. Then I got my hands on MGS3, then finally got MGS1. Played them all before MGS4 came out.
It literally had MGS1 gameplay. MGS1 gameplay is amazing. But in this game you couldn't see the enemy, but the could, unless you activate that damn radar/computer/terminal thing lost somewhere on the screen for a place you will only revisit once ( maybe ) in the game
Darknesser How the hell is MGS1 gameplay amazing. You can't move while crouching, you have barely any CQC options, clinging to walls then crouching and vice versa feels all clunky. Can't move while aiming. I love the MGS series but in the ps2/xbox generation Splinter Cell was doing infinitely better and smoother stealth gameplay. Not that I like that series much but just using it for comparison.
I like how this song becomes a reoccurring leitmotif for the rest of Metal Gear Solid from this point forward. It was in the end of MGS3 and it was in MGS4
This was always my favorite MGS game. Mostly because I loved Raiden and a lot of the other characters in this game. The soundtrack was beautiful, as I always expect in an MGS game.
Funnily enough, this was my first Metal Gear game. It was also the second game I ever played on the Playstation 2, right behind Wrath of Cortex (Oof). Being the non-English speaker I was, I didn't understand English (of course), so I would get stuck on the Tanker's Engine Room not knowing how to proceed due to the SEMTEX, nor could I proceed past the C4 arc of the Plant Chapter for a very long time. BUT. But. But this freaking intro always kept me coming back regardless. And over time, due to constantly restarting the game form the beginning, the English language-no joke- finally just.. "clicked" in my non-English brain. And when it did? I finally proceeded, and man. What an experience. A surreal one, but an epic & memorable one that will always have a place in my heart.
Shahanee Hamelin Not when its Konami. If we give them a chance they might turn Metal Gear into a pachinko machine exclusive series with "erotic violence".They already have a number of series they have...sucked the life out off?I don't know.
He was the perfect protagonist for the story they were trying to tell in this game. Metal Gear Solid 2 would not have been the masterpiece it is without Raiden. I think most of the hate for Raiden was during the time of the game's release, but I think with time people have come to appreciate him as a character and his role in MGS2.
+Alex Evans so fucking true!!! I was really doing that while I was younger!! had the urge to salute, especially when seeing that part in the 2000 trailer when the soldiers are moving their feet and forming a salute posture. There was nothing like youtube around, I remember downloading that trailer and just replaying it like a maniac. Fucking A++
+Commander Convoy I rather those game stay inscribed in my head exactly the way they were. I don't want any fancy 3D person camera mode (like in all recent mgs games..) to spoil the way those games (before mgs 3 subsistence) felt. Blah, I really loved the camera system in mgs games and really do hate the new one. Too bad it's not an option to choose between.

+Commander Convoy Eh. Could be neat, but at the same time, maybe it's best to leave well enough alone and appreciate the games for what they were and are.
In my opinion Snake Eater will always be the best Metal Gear Solid, perfect story/plot, characters, gameplay, environment and don't forget the Greatest Theme Song of any game.
Man there were only a few games that would hit different growing up. Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons of Liberty Halo 1, 2 & 3 Star Wars - Knights of the old republic Runescape - (specifically 2006-08) So much nostalgia and memories, simpler times ❤️
This is one of those games the people where not ready for yet. People didn´t understand the message and theme the game was trying to tell. And for a game that came out in 2001 it is a technical marvel. I am so glad people finally are starting to realize what the message of this game was and how it is one of the greatest.
I work in sales and my daily morning ritual is listening to this before I start. Today I finished the week no1 out the whole division. This piece of music definitely helped me do it
If I had the means and Kojima's blessing, I would make MGS VI: Full Circle. It would be a reimagined remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear II: Solid Snake. Basically play as Solid Snake during his first two adventures, made in the style of MGSV standards. Maybe have a short prologue segment where you play as Gray Fox.
The important thing is to always make a franchise, but know when too call it a day. MGS is without a doubt one of the top 10 franchises of all time. each story has a new twist and always has me on the edge of my seat. But there comes a time when you have to quit while you're ahead.
Alex Emmerson it is the best franchise of all time, ive born with it and the story is so huge and addiciting I cant live without metal gear solid, my life will have no sense, from ps1 to ps4 and the psp, metal gear is more than a game, they should make a movie actually

It might still yet have time to be ahead of

1: crank up the volume
2: stand still
3: salute
4: try not to cry
5: cry a lot
I haven't played this game before but it still brought tears to my eyes
Go for it, it's really worth the buy. Same goes for all the other MGS games.
You don't salute unless it's the MGS 3 version of this song.

Amen to that same feelings amazing game and made memories ill never forget
idklol yea man so many memories
Best one imo is metal gear solid, even to this day i woudl recommend you to play it, it has the best story of all MG series. But i did enjoyed a lot MGS 2, it continues very well the story of the mgs1, i just didn't like some crap about incest and some kojimas stupid details they added, but that's it.
idklol same here
idklol THIS WAS THE FIRST METAL GEAR SOLID GAME I PLAYED TOO!! I loved it so much and I would play over and average again until the old console broke... that was the saddest day of my life...

As someone who has always avoided stealth games, the MGS series was amazing. I love how tightly designed it’s levels and gameplay were. It also had cool villains and stories.
Try Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
It's a bit different from MGS as it's pure stealth instead of stealth action. No boss fights, just straight up stealth.
I personally love stealth games because I just love the feeling of sneaking around and beating enemies through wit rather than strength. It's a shame the genre is pretty much dead because modern gamers are far too impatient to carefully sneak through a level. Nowadays we only have games with "stealth elements" where the levels are not built around stealth and you're usually better off just going in guns blazing.
and so relatable somehow :) or at least cool ;)
This theme comprises everything important to MGS 2 as a game. New technology fused with an age old feeling of patriotism and duty. Simply superb.

Being able to play any Metal Gear Solid is a gift from the gods
Vita is such an underrated little handheld. It was literally an perfect ps1, 2 and 3 emulator.
i enjoyed playing MGS HD Collection on my PS Vita, not just on the bed but on the go as well
The Vita was definitely under looked and overly criticized if people (haters that wont buy it) shut the hell up and just ask for more features and a better price on the sim cards, Sony would definitely would made the changes.

I truly hope you enjoyed your time on the stage and congratulations ❤️
I've only had one stage performance so far as a teen and i know exactly what you mean by that high

Building the future and keeping the past alive are one in the same thing."

He`s an idiot, especially in the first part of the game, but then, the more you get into the story, you really start to appreciate him if you understand him
This was a beautiful read. Thank you very much.
MGSV is underrated. But I can agree with you
dont know why you shit on MGSV so much, ive played every etal Gear game and beat them all as well apart from portable ops. to say MGSV doesnt have amazing music, a beautiful world and the story to wrap it all up to bring you into the eyes of young snake in outer heaven.

Sons of liberty-- Eternal peak in the history of video game
I think the composer of this game was listening to Russian composer: Georgy Sviridov - "Winter Road"
1975
This song still gives me the chills.
Sure it has it's faults, but MGS2 is still one of the best games I've ever played.
Bumbleness Supreme Brady There's a glaring fault, it's called extremely sluggish gameplay for a stealth game.
It literally had MGS1 gameplay. MGS1 gameplay is amazing. But in this game you couldn't see the enemy, but the could, unless you activate that damn radar/computer/terminal thing lost somewhere on the screen for a place you will only revisit once ( maybe ) in the game
Darknesser
How the hell is MGS1 gameplay amazing.
ShiroKreuz ur aware mgs1 was released in 1999 right?
Still the best video game Theme ever created.
Cheers to Kojima and everyone who worked into this timeless masterpiece.
My next cover 😊

Although i LOVE this theme, you can give your cheers to Sviridov, whose music was plagiarised for this haha
“Gentlemen, this is Shadow Jinkus, Solid Goose has reported the rake is in the lake. It’s over.”
Here is yet another song I want played at my funeral!
Will always be my favorite Metal Gear game.
BEEP BEEP BEEP
I like how this song becomes a reoccurring leitmotif for the rest of Metal Gear Solid from this point forward. It was in the end of MGS3 and it was in MGS4
Ever seen the vid where Kojima is shown the song this one is plagiarizing? Look it up its nuts.
This was always my favorite MGS game. Mostly because I loved Raiden and a lot of the other characters in this game.
The soundtrack was beautiful, as I always expect in an MGS game.
One of the greatest themes of all time.
MGS2, This music.. So beautiful..
Goddamnit I love metal gear so much. Everything about is... it's just so fucking awesome.

I don't care what people say about Raiden, he is a great protagonist.
I agree. Also seeing Snake from a different POV makes him feel more like a legend.

This is one of those games the people where not ready for yet. People didn´t understand the message and theme the game was trying to tell. And for a game that came out in 2001 it is a technical marvel. I am so glad people finally are starting to realize what the message of this game was and how it is one of the greatest.
