My Inner Warhammer 40k fanboy greatly approves of this. A gun that is also a chain sword that can then unleash said chain as a whip/roped dart is so damn cool. The fact that he has a backup weapon in case he loses his weapon is also really cool- especially since its made of bone.

No, keep using whatever music you want. It makes the feeling much more authentic. My friends and I were talking about how unique it feels.
Lyric doesn't matter, what matter is the beat, the sync, the feel that go along

What matter is the feel, the rymth, the climax that music can bring, sometime music doesn't need lyric to define them

And i hope to see more of your perspective of Rwby world, because after seeing both Angel and Lee story and the original cast kind of become the villains, i just can't wait for more

I think this is one of the best RWBY fan animations I've seen in terms of overall visuals.
The shader/filter feels more modern.
As for character designs, Lee's redesign I can say was 100% better than the original, both weapon and outfit. Angel's different designs have their own merits. Ruby's design was also cool for taking the character's style in a different direction while matching their essence.
The music: I realize some people cannot enjoy the animation with the song because they already feel from experience that the song is too silly or has weird lyrics that are not appropriate for the subject of the animation. But as for myself, I neither like nor dislike the song by itself and the music has good enough energy and flow that I can easily ignore whatever doesn't fit.
Some people would criticize the action not following the rhythm, but I always think that in the bigger picture, what is more satisfying to see more often is when the action and music are linked by changing or escalating of emotion. This makes it less challenging and is more intuitive, because you can match each "segment" of the action or a change in the situation to a part of the song.
I think the switching between focusing on Lee and Ruby was done well. Not lingering too long and preserving the flow and attention. If there was a part where you would not be sure what move to put next, that would be a good opportunity to switch to the other person.
from observing what is going on, the viewer can assume that Ruby is doing something with the Grimm, and the switching shows that this is a back and forth struggle between them even though they cannot see each other's face (or at least only Lee does not know who his true opponent is).
Camera movement/cinematography: Good overall. I understand what some people are saying about 2:58 being too long focusing on the same thing and expecting to see the next shot sooner.
some shots/transitions that are noticeably worth mentioning:
3:41 Ruby's spin transitioning into Lee's spin slash
3:51 Satisfying modulation of speed / slow motion to emphasize Lee drawing the other weapon (these kinds of brief slow motion shots are very appreciated for clearly communicating to the viewer), then quickly going back to full speed for the attack. The shot zooming away upwards while Ruby was spinning here and the addition of the petals swirling in a vortex was nice too.
I don't know if his new outfit really fits with the RWBY aesthetic but I can see why people prefer it to the bootleg WF outfit he had before lol.
Honestly I'd rather listen to Katy Perry than Jeff Williams lol, even if it isn't exactly battle music.
Yeah I prefer a more meaningful fight scene over one with solely good choreography, Monty's style can get repetitive and doesn't work for fights where there's a handicap for instance, or fights that are more environmental focused or multiple people against one person. Or fights where characters are tired. Really a lot of different scenarios aren't applicable to Monty's style. Monty's style was 1-2 fighters fighting another 1-2 fighters they were of equivalent strength to (though sometimes there was an obvious superior fighter), in a mostly static environment.

@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 I mean "fitting with the RWBY aesthetic" is something that could probably be ignored, especially if it can be justified as not only a whole world of people having different ideas of fashion, but also the character in question being disconnected from that world's mainstream culture. You've got superheroes and poster boys while this guy is some sort of next level shady vagrant with a vendetta against the occult (side note, his outfit kind of reminded me of Osiris from Destiny if he wore silver-plated ahamkara bones which itself would doubly suggest being a functioning maniac lol.)
Something else i realized is that you can probably describe this video as less of a pure fight video and more of a "music video communicated with fighting".
That's an interesting point about Monty's style. I suppose having dynamic fights that use the environment would be considerable extra work where you have to compose the environment itself in accordance with the story/scenarios and expected usages of the fight, and on top of that you actually have to throw those assets together.
The song literally only made this even more hype and awesome than it already was. Not sure what the complaints are about... You're so amazing Tommy! Keep doing what you love!
The song choice was. . .odd. Animation great. I don't think when people think about slaying Grimm they are thinking about Katy Perry getting kissed and probed by an alien

This is incredible! I got goosebumps watching it! This is hands down one of my favourite RWBY fan animations now, and it makes me want to work twice as hard on my own fan animations. The visuals are gorgeous, haunting and creative, the fight is intense and mesmerizing... whenever part 2 comes out, be it in a year or another 5, I'll be here for it!
I wasn't sure about the song at first but then it really started ramping up. Nice choice
The weapon idea is really, really creative! A chainsaw shotgun that can shoot the chain as a whip - this is the kind of unbridled creativity RWBY has been missing for years.
There've been a number of RWBY fan animations but something about the choreography of this one hits the exact level of "musicality" that I got from watching Monty's old work. Well done!
I wasn't expecting a Katy Perry song but I don't mind it, especially since I think the movements of the character syncs pretty well with the music.

If you get rid of that part of the song it would be better.
Been awaiting this. Animation looks fantastic, the beowolves seem more evil and threatening than the show. I think it's the texturing they're shown in. Also, evil/corrupted Ruby?

I LOVED the design for who I'm assuming it's Ruby. I personally wouldn't have chosen the music but it still worked great worth the animation. Great job!!!

Looking at this video I can't help but see this as a dark future in which Ruby replacing the Salem after becoming corrupted and Oscar now hunting after her having become hardened by years of bloodshed.
This was absolutely fantastic and so many kinds of awesome... To think you've learned to do all of that and did all of this on your own is awe inspiring.

I love this guy’s animations. The music choice gave me some whiplash, but honestly, not that bad and at least it was on beat (unlike with some fan animations or amvs I’ve seen)
"Jaws" synced with the weapon closing back up, is such a slick move!
the graphical improvement is awesome. The only thing I have to complain about is that the two other humans besides the main character dont match the rwby aesthetic either old or new. not sure if that was on purpose and maybe the main character is the same and I just didn't notice.

Damn! That was an exciting Remake animation you have made here, Tommy! Everything is all enhanced & so real. Not only that, but all that blood & gore from the Grimm Lee fought & killed in there, and the action was just incredible. It's been a very long time since your last few videos you've made in the past. This one, and the teaser, marked your return on here. I am now curious to see how the Lee Vs Ruby & the Angel Vs Weiss fights will be like in the remake since you have recreated & redesigned some of your work & OCs as shown in this video of yours. Really amazing! I sure hope you do a Part 2 of this soon this year, man. Good Job & Amazing Work!
There's some wonkiness here and there but honestly as a whole it looks better than literally every other RWBY fan animation I've seen on here. You used the cel shading well. Also it has an interesting concept with your OCs fighting the RWBY characters. Most fan animations are either riffs on the original Trailers or just fanservice fights between two preexisting characters. You did something different and I applaud that, and it still feels like it'd fit in the RWBY universe though maybe not the evil Ruby part lol. Also I love the nods to the Red Trailer in the beginning. The music doesn't bother me because it's not much worse than anime music or the usual RWBY buttrock. The fighting was more visceral and grounded than the usual Monty style fights which I like, though there's some weird cuts and angles here and there. All in all though, a really good job.

Completely rebuilt from the ground up. People say this is edgy RWBY, but there are some who just enjoy the right amount of edge poured into this.
If the real RWBY was animated like this and Monty animated trailers like this instead, we would’ve seen a completely different show.

Fantastic animation and choreography. Feels more RWBY than RWBY these days. The song lyrics are a bit mismatched with what's going on in the video but you match the action up with the actual music very well.
These are awesome animations, please keep them coming. Really like the new design for Lee and his weapon, they're pretty sick.
That looks dope as hell! The choreography was sooo good, really looks like Monty's style, great job! The character designs and especially the weapon design were awesome! Some of the scenes were so artistic, very creative. Only piece of critique is that sometimes during the fight some moves were hard to see. It really works wonders in animation to give each move some anticipation, to let the viewers brain understand that an attack is coming. A few frames can make a difference. So hype to see part 2!

Idk I feel like the Angel animation was probably the best work. This just feels really edgy for not much of real reason.
I don’t know what people are talking about with the choreography. The swings themselves don’t really feel that powerful or weighted to me and there weren’t really any cool memorable sequences.
I think sticking with instrumental music would be a lot better to time with your rhythm or something in your own language.

But all my pictures are from listening to this song, so I can't change other songs.
There is no possibility that the action and music do not match or that the choice is wrong.
You can only see it in other ways.

Okay real talk, compare this to the old Lee animation and holy freaking crap the clear improvement is obvious even to my unskilled eyes. And the graphical upgrades, holy crap. Character design is awesome. Freakin' chainsword/whip/fishing rod/rifle XD
This was definitely an experience, i dont think ive ever busted out laughing at a badass fight animation before. The animation itself was amazing, the beginning gave me a feeling of seeing an early 2000s video game like Shadow of the colossus. And the fight choreography was great, very experimental and had a few scenes that weren't that great but overall was not terrible. The music however was just not the right pick, it immediately dragged me out of the experience and caused me to start chuckling and when the rap came on and there was just a pause immediately followed up by "Alien sex" i had to stop the video because i was laughing to hard. Also the dance segments were weird and unnecessary since they added nothing to the video, however that redesign for Ruby was really cool.

Definitely a different take on the music choice. I will respect your wishes for what you want to use, but I would like to at least recommend a suggestion as a bit of friendly criticism, at least helping show more material or something. “Underworld” by VAMPS felt like it matched the strength of your character’s brutal power and deliberate movement.

Love the animation! Personally, I didn’t think you needed to do a remake, but I’m not making these so no complaints here. I can’t wait see who “K” and “C” are from Team KCAL, and which will fight Blake and Yang. Lee and Angel had Ruby and Weiss respectively. Also, on an interesting note, I think the ruby is this one would be better portrayed as a relative of hers, but shares a connection to Lee, that or maybe Team KCAL is actually from the future and their issues with Team Ruby are more complicated than simply being antagonists. Edit: Lee is the Hunter and Angel is the caged bird, what will “K” and “C” be? I remember a red solar eclipse (red aura on black circle) and a blue radio/music wavelength, will they be a variation of a crimson shadow horror or an electronic musician? Not suggesting, just curious.🤔 Interested in your ideas more than these ones.

God DAMN, this is SO GOOD! I love the creativity behind the character models and Lee's new design is AWESOME! Love how his weapon works too!
If I had one complaint, it's that the textures and lightning make a lot of details hard to make out. The Grimm's white exoskeletons can look rather grey and it blends in too much with Lee's weapon and armour.
Its weird that I first found this channel 5yrs ago!! Great vid as always

Oookay, I maaay have just up and made a head cannon/ fan fiction idea for this… Basically, lee (the Hunter) is actually helping Ruby (little red riding hood) by hunting giant Grimm (big bad wolfs). All the while she is giving him aid through her semblance (who says it has to work the complete same way as in canon?). Maybe she could use her silver eyes through the rose petals, or even a specific special rose petal to ‘seal’ the large ‘weakened’ Grimm? Part two could even just be the two having a no holds barred ‘sparring’ session perhaps. Like I said though, it’s just a little fan fiction/ head canon idea. Anyone have any opinions on this? Hell I’d be honored if Tommy himself commented on it. ^_^

its crazy to think that we could've had the show be something like this. Badass dudes and chicks destroying Grimm. we instead we got a show about useless maidens, their pissed off mommy and an immortal wizard that kinda sucks at everything despite being thousands of years old.
This was amazing and can't wait for the next one. One thing that I've found, is that working with lyrics on the song is really hard, congratulations on pulling it off BTW. So whenever I can, I try to keep to instrumental versions. Gives me a bit more freedom, and you can match the beats more clearly.
