- Hi guys welcome back! We've had this song suggested in the past, and since it's Metallica we of course decided to react to it! It's one of the first times that we reacted to an official video from this band and we enjoyed it ! Thank you for the suggestion! An emotional journey... never thought about it like that, but the 'please don't cry' feeling i understand.. I am a 39 year old welder, hard from the outside, little heart kind of guy. This song turns me inside out and makes me cry like a little girl..and i mean crying dried up lakes full again. never figured out why, but as soon james starts singing "waiting for the one" tears start to flow and i can't stop until the song comes to an end. Love the little sidelook to see if your sister is hanging in there.

It could be a contemporary war setting, but it's really about forgiveness and redemption and understanding what goes on in people's minds. We really feel that this was such a beautiful and epic way to treat the song in something that was really radically different than the specificity of the lyrics."

I always took the cross of the lyrics and video to represent the breaking of cycles of violence, but that's just what stood out to me as similar.

6th view! Earliest I've ever been. Glad y'all liked it. I still remember driving to Circuit City to buy this on my day off when this album came out in 2008. My car was missing its driver's side window and it was raining so I had a garbage bag covering that window and was fortunate that traffic was virtually nonexistent at 10am that day. This was definitely one of my favorite songs from the album on my first listening of it.

@FunwithDee&A I’m really glad you gave this a positive review because I was a little weary going into it knowing that you guys reacted to the official video. Although I am glad, I think not doing the official music video would have been better because for someone who never heard this song before, the music video sort of gives you the wrong idea about this song. This is one of those cases where the music video means something different than the song does. The song itself deals with the theme of domestic abuse. Like a kid being physically abused at home. The lyrics are sort of meant to paint the picture of a kid who gets physically abused at home. I think it’s pretty much supposed to be from the kid’s point of view. But all of that gets lost because of the video. And I’m not knocking the content of the video because obviously it’s portraying something meaningful too. But by doing so, the real meaning of the song goes by the wayside. You guys should listen to this again, NOT as an actual reaction because I don’t think that’s necessary. I mean just in your own free time if you get the chance to. Like if you have an easy 8-9 minutes of down time, you should listen to it on your own, but while reading the lyrics instead of watching the video. Knowing what it’s about now and then listening to it with the knowledge of what it’s really about might give you a whole new opinion on it.
While I’m at it, I think you guys should react to the song Falling Away From Me by Korn. Since you guys reacted to Korn for the first time not long ago, Falling Away From Me would be another good one to follow it up with since it’s another one of their big hits. The reason I’m suggesting that song on this video is because it has a similar meaning, with the whole domestic abuse theme. Plus the music video for that matches the theme better. If you could manage juggling both watching the video + paying attention to the lyrics, you’d be all set.
I caught the true meaning the first time I heard it. My cousin had been going through an abusive relationship at the time, so the lyrics really hit home.

It’s not about not “having mercy” on civilians it’s about being cautious, we were in very similar situations many times, as my soldier approached the woman to make sure she was clear she detonated the bomb under her clothing, my soldier was med evacuated out but survived that one, he said the last thing he remembered was her foot flying at his face. A lot of people seem to think we are too aggressive but until you are there and trying to show compassion to someone you think is an innocent civilian right before they kill your brothers, it’s hard to understand
