Francais Pour Une Nuit
10/19/2009
On July 7th of this year we were honored to perform at Arenes de Nimes, the historic Roman amphitheatre in Nimes, France, easily one of the most spectacular venues in the world. We thought it would be a memorable night, so we asked our friends in France to bring along a film crew to document the festivities. The result is "Francais Pour Une Nuit" (translation: "French For One Night"), the DVD of the evening including the full show, interviews with us, and five videos shot by YOU, our buddies in the audience. All this and more will be available starting November 23, 2009!
"Francais Pour Une Nuit" was extra special for us because not only was it filmed in France, but ALL aspects of the project are French as the show was filmed, recorded, and edited with French camera and recording crews, the artwork on the package and special box set (more on that in a minute!) were created by a French design team; even the credits are in French. The only non-French parts: the three Americans and one Dane on stage and the photos shot by Englishman Ross Halfin.
The DVD will be available in retail stores in France only, at www.metallica.com, or you may order online through the record company at www.metallicanimes.com. There will be three formats available: Standard DVD in a digipack including a 16 page booklet, Blu-Ray DVD, also in a digipack with the booklet, and the deluxe limited edition box set that includes the DVD, a copy of "Death Magnetic on CD," a Large T-shirt, laminated pass, and five exclusive photos (see it all below).
And just in case you couldn't join us that night, here is the set list:
1. Blackened
2. Creeping Death
3. Fuel
4. Harvester Of Sorrow
5. Fade To Black
6. Broken, Beat & Scarred
7. Cyanide

they actually played in Antarctica. they are the only band to play on all 7 continents.
@Andy Don Man, that was funny. Saw that video of them playing in Antarctica. Saw them when they opened for Ozzy on their Master of Puppets tour when Cliff was still alive. It wasn't long after that he died in the bus accident. The saddest day other than my parents dying.
@@John57945 when dimebag died
I cried 😢
And all in one calendar year too
Metallica are not the only band to play all 7 continents. Lol.
Headbanging penguins?
Ennio Morricone : The Good ,the Bad & the Ugly.....one of the greatest Original Scores ever written for a Movie !
Nope... ecstacy of gold... from the right movie, just had the wrong song name.
Their Seattle concert from 1989 is legendary. Watch the whole show, it's phenomenal!!!
You better watch 1989 Seattle version of the song
May be Whiplash 89?!)))
They were peaking at that time.. Then came Load/Reload blah blah blah and Rob, the only person that walks while sitting (not very metal)
yeahhhh, everything sounds kinda weak compared to the 89 seattle concert.
@@mb8132 San Diego 92 was the beginning of the end. Starting with Black there sound/style went more main stream, and there songs got worse with each album.
Should've been what they watched instead of this one
I was there ! The sound was phenomenal ! 🤘🤘🤘
I would love to see you guys react to "Enter Sandman" or "Creeping Death", on Metallica's show in Moscow, back in 1991. Travis' expression, when he gets to see shots of that crowd of 1.6 million people, will be priceless! Also, "Battery" from their Seattle show in 1989. As far as intensity goes, that show is absolutely insane!
seattle 89 is the best concert metallica ever played. ever.
Rammstein has played there several times, notably on 2005 for the Reise Reise Tour and on 2017 for the end of the tour that year. The 2005 concert was recorded for their live DVD Völkerball.
Exactly!
Please react to Rammstein live Völkerball in Nimes Arena! Reise Reise!
Greetz from good old Germany!
I have to watch this twice, once to watch the band, and once to watch you guys react! You really made my night! Peace, love out!!
Love to see how you give credit to all members of a band , cause you as musicians know the value of each one!
I was at the front row of that show, and to be honest, when i entered the arena, it fells really special, not like a normal one. you feel that energy. and when all the crowd screams together... OMG it was so impressive. so much goosebumps.
I watched this concert about 20 times on axis tv, its Awesome
hey everyone who has ever been to a metallica concert feels the energy of this band they take you on their journey and you can feel it see more live gigs and you know what i mean from andy greetings from germany
I get chills just hearing that. The anticipation before they go on stage is a feeling I long for now with the lockdowns... and I miss my friend who died all to young and with who I travelled around the world with to see Metallica.
Concerts in this place, it's regular. Every summer, there's several big concerts: Rammstein, Slipknot, System of a down, Dire Straits, Lenny Kravitz, Sting, Elton John, etc... In a few years : The Wolf Hunterz. Remember the name of the city: Nîmes in a south of France....
Wonder how often the heritage experts check out the stadium for structural damage caused by noise vibratiin and, in the case of Rammstein, heat?
Rammstein also made a live DVD in this venue. It's called Völkerball and it's amazing too.
Metallica did it first!! BHAHAH
@@fixxxer7030 Volkerball by Rammstein came out in 2006 and was filmed in 2005 during the Reise, Reise tour. Metallica's was filmed during the 2009 World Magnetic Tour. So i guess they didn't do it first...
Love watching your reaction videos. “The day that never comes” from the Quebec Magnetic concert is one you should watch. The connection between the band is great xx
Damn those chills when i hear all the screams :D :D...Love them
I have been in this Arena once. Back in i believe 1991 with The Simple Minds. Great memories.
They played in Anchorage, Alaska justice for all tour! Awesome concert!
I'm the old metal fan who whorship the first 3 albums, saw them in each of these Tours, but that entrance still gives me chills.... wish I attend that show at Nimes
I watched some of your videos right now and i have to say, that he is soooo extraordinary cute!
Hey guys. It was actually a one shot concert in this venue. But many bands have played here. Rammstein for their Volcker Ball Tour played an amazing show in this venue.
It was released in DVD Français pour une nuit which means "French for one night"
Got to see them live in 1991 in Toronto was a freaking amazing concert 😎✌
1993, Milton Keynes UK.. legendary gig with Megadeth supporting. Those were the days 🤘😎🤘
Metallica - Ride The Lightning Live at Mexico 2012 ( it's amaaaazing performance )
Its awesome to have you guys in metal family
I and about 65,000 others saw them in tge Oakland colusium in 92 with Queensryc, Faith No More, and Sound Garden. It was right after the Black album came out. It also just happened to be 3 day before game 1 of the world series there. Well that biggest mosh pit i have ever seen and they had to replace the entire outfield in 2 days before the world series
their first concert in Bulgaria was in 8000 years old city of Plovdiv, there is a lot of ancient places in that city, it was so cool
Les arènes de Nîmes concert incroyable !!!🇫🇷💀🖤
*The melody at the beginning is "L' estasi dell' oro" ["The Ecstasy of Gold"] and it is taken from the original soundtrack composed by the legendary Italian conductor and movie-score composer Ennio Morricone for the 1966 Sergio Leone-directed epic Italian Spaghetti Western film called "Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo" ["The Good, The Bad & The Ugly"] starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, Eli Wallach.*
It's awesome to see how they've transitioned from using this coliseum as a place of death and horror to such a wonderful place full of happiness and joy. It just goes to show you how far humanity has come in such a short time in the bigger scope of how long humans have been here. I can't think of a better way to use such a beautiful building where many people lost their lives, to now a place to celebrate life and peace among the people who were there for this event. I only hope there will be more of these places with such a brutal history used now to celebrate life, and not take it.
The smartest thing Metallica ever did was paying the money to use "The Ecstasy of Gold" from the awesome Clint Eastwood movie "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly" to open every show with. It works EVERY time! I mean, think of all the elements here for a second. Italian Spaghetti Western + American Thrash Metal + Ancient Roman Coliseum = This! If that doesn't blow your mind, you never had one to begin with.
Please react to justice medley by Metallica Mexico City (1993) live. This was possibly the best live concert Metallica ever did in their very long career ,they were in their pinnacle and the energy level were unbelievable along with attitude.
Hey there, hey there, HEY THERE WARRIORS OF ROCK!! Keep on doing what you're doing cause you two are an Awesome couple and I love your reactions to our Heroes Metallica!💜💜😎
Lars has primarily three drum sets he has used all the time, the gold/red or a solid green or purple kit. Kirk has guitars that go with the color schemes, but Lars first drum kit was all white in the 80s. I don’t think they do it on purpose, but it sure does look amazing when they sync their equipment 🔥
Great reaction - though here in Europe we're used to being surrounded by centuries-old buildings, so it's no big deal, hehe. The arena's been used for lots of concerts and shows over the years. I think they even use it for bullfights. BTW the city's pronounced "Neem" (not "Nimes" as in "times").
Rammstein was there also... great place to enjoy good rock music✌
One from this show concert was amazing
I've been in that arena watching Rammstein and it was amazing! Eventho it's smaller than it seems.
Great job with your reaction to Blackened live from Metallica from Nimes France 09
Little facts: This is the opening track from them 1988's "...And Justice For All" album!! Jason Newsted (them bassist at the time) wrote the main riff!!!!!
Oh, and in the May of this year they've released an acoustic rendition of this track called "Blackened 2020".
Please react to Metallica “battery” live in Seattle 1989. One of their greatest performances ever!
hello, I was there that night, I live in Nîmes, I was at Robert's feet, there was a kind of fusion between Metallica and us, the energy of this concert was incredible, it was a kind of metal tsunami, my best memory remains James's head when he arrived on stage, it looked like a child discovering the Christmas tree, we made so much noise that the inhabitants talked about it for weeks so well that the mayor of Nîmes played the DVD of the concert on the wall of a building so that the people of Nîmes can see what had happened, the Nîmes festival in the arenas takes place every year, Rammstein has also done a DVD of the concert, a lot of bands come, of all styles, I had to see Nightwish this year but they canceled the festival because of the covid
Legends at work!
Pink LIVE IN POMPEII......these are EPIC!! 1972
Rammstein played in that coliseum a couple of years before Metallica. You should definitely watch their footage from Rammstein in Nimes 2005 too ;)
Guys listen closely, its fun watching you react but you HAVE to react to
Master of Puppets live 89 Seattle
Whom the Bell Tolls live 89 Seattle
Battery live 89 Seattle
Blackened live 89 Seattle
Wiplash live 89 Seattle
Creeping Death Moscow 91
I am NOT kidding. Those will blow you away! Cheers
can we just say RIP Ennio Morricone
Metallica also did a show in Antarctica... let that sink in. lol Love your channel!!! You guys are dope!!! Keep them coming!! Try to check out The Big Four's cover of Am I evil. It is Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica all on stage. It's killer.
Anybody that has seen Metallica live knows they play Ecstasy of Gold from the movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly just before coming on stage. I've choked up many times during this moment!
He should have yelled to the crowd in the colliseum "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!!"
Don't forget, by the time they were 24 years old, they had 4 ground breaking albums...legends
"You can tell that they are great friends"...if she only knew
Yes!! 1988 Metallica!
Metallica has always liked making history. They're the only band that has played on 5 continents, including Antarctica. They played with Symphonic orchestras and made a movie in parallel with a live performance. It's historic, it's new experiences and very good publicity too :)
In the Netherlands they played in amsterdam ajax soccer stadium for 50.000 people june 2019 I was there 🤘
Hell yeah brother! Rock on!
Esd dvd lo tengo, muy excelente por cierto 👌👌
If this is one of the coolest things you've ever seen you should definitely react to their Antarctica concert!!!!
Now you have to do Metallica 91 Moscow. 1.6 million people. Do Enter Sandman it's first song of there set. Before they start they show you how huge that crow is.
The look on your faces will be priceless. Concert was at an airfield in the middle of nowhere.
Hey I really enjoyed the intro song!
Harvester of sorrow, Moscow, 1991. That's very nice.
Booyah! Nothing better than an audience high! Keep on slammin'! 🙃
CREEPING DEATH SEATTLE 89! BEST FUCKING METALLICA LIVE PERFORMANCE EVER!
If you want to be totally blown away and sitting in awe do "One" from the same concert in Nimes or one of these three songs live in Seattle 1989 ( I could mention 75 live gigs from them that will blow you away):
Battery
...and Justice for All
Master of Puppets
Next year they have been around for 40 years setting unmatched standards and inspired so many young musicians.....and to this date they sell out EVERY arena worldwide no matter the capacity of the arena.....die hard crowds from 15,000 to 100,000 people.....and not to forget the live gig in Moscow 1991......more than a million....if you want to a live reaction from that concert do " Creeping Death"... You will be speechless and they are undoubtly the greatest live band ever and they are among 3-4 best bands ever.....Gods, Titans and Legends 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘🤘
So I mess up the order a bit. You did Plug In Baby by Muse first. Its intro riff sounds a bit like the section starting around 09:57 of this vid.
And in this concert at Nimes, you should react to the consecutive performances of Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman. I enjoy the transition between the 2 songs.
You should watch Creeping Death from this same concert. They got thousands of people to chant die in a Roman colosseum, probably the first time that's happened in centuries.
The best band in the world !
you have to chek out Metallica, Accept, Antrax and Megadeath performing "Em i evil" live in Sofia, Bulgaria! Thats heavy metal history! The first and only time the big 4 bands playing on stage together!!! EPICNESSS!!!!
Check out Harvester of Sorrow by Metallica live in Moscow 91.
Looking this song in Seattle 89,this FUCKING STRONG CRAZY,this live vs Seattle 89 this only fucking shit!!!!
" Dyers Eve" live at this venue, would like to see your reactions and comments to this video
Thanks Keep Rocking 🤟
They had played in the Antarctica!!! They had played everywhere!
HEY GUYS , did you know metallica also played a concert in antarctica THE FRICKIN SOUTH POLE , the only band to play all seven continents. oh and NO on the matching drums and guitar thing , color coordination was never there strong point , unless you count black ,lol , great reaction. \m/
You should react to Whale Bones. They're an alternative rock band, from Indiana. Some great songs, by them, are "Desperate Lie", "Reciprocation", "Cult Leader", "The Current" and "Exhausted Forgiveness" :)
I saw them at the Forum, it was so loud that James couldn't hear himself
I mostly listen to older Metallica, but this kick all kind of ass .🔥☠️🖤🖤
The crowd 😁😁🤘🤘
This it’s rock,Seattle 89 this heavy fucking metal!!!
Y’all gotta check out Freeze em All!
The true Reason why the Roan EMpire built these Colloseums....imagine if the Colloseum of Rome would still be in use !......
super video merçi :)
The smile she had .. has
RAMMSTEIN did a show in this awesome location too. Check out the excellent live DVD "Völkerball" from 2005.
They played a gig in Antarctica in a dome they had constructed out of plexiglass
FRENCH LIVE LEST'S GOOOOO !!!! 🤘🏻🔥❤🇫🇷
Pink Floyd played at the ruins in Pompeii, you should check it out. You won't regret it!😎😎Stay safe.
They Chnge solo .. i love original one .. original solo is heart of this song
You guys should listen to Spit out the Bone from London, newer Metallica, that sounds like the older Metallica, I think you'll like it.
Seen them 4 times. The always enter like this.
