when this came out, I was in the "this isnt an Unforgiven song" kinda camp. I was in my early 20s when this Album came out. now.. in my mid-30s, I can dig it, I feel it. It hits very different now.
Can everyone take a moment to appreciate the fact that Hetfield is just sitting there casually and doesn't look down once during the intro? And the fact that he was also doing that back in '89 with To Live Is To Die. What a beast.

I literally never listened to this song without starting to cry. The lyrics are so devastating to me. I wasn't physically abused by my parents but I can't imagine how absolutely helpless a child must feel without a safe place. The lyrics and the guitar capture that feeling so perfectly for me that I actually have a hard time listen to it
You could tell, Brad was digging this, he was rocking back and forth with Lex most of the song. The official music video is really good for this one. The tension build up at the end is really emphasized in the video. Love watching you guys journey through the metal and rock scene...

The sound that you like Brad is the same sound that got some Metallica "fans" to no longer like them. There's some ppl who just expect bands to do the same thing, same sound, same speed on every song, every album. I respect them so much as musicians because they do what they want to do and have paved the way for so many others. When other bands want to slow things down and change their sound a little, they just create a separate band/side project. This way fans can't get pissed when they do things different because they're seen as 2 different bands. Metallica just does their thing as Metallica.. take it or leave it*
Me too. I first heard of Metallica when they were with Megaforce Records back in '83 with Kill'em All. When Ride the Lightning came out, my friends and I would just play it over and over again for months. In High School I was known as "That Metallica Guy" because I could wear a different Metallica shirt every day for two weeks, that's how many I had. This was before they became well known outside of the Metal Head community. I grew up with this band and it's cool to see a new generation appreciating them like I did.
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it on the radio. Then about a week later I saw them play it live and changed my mind. Now Death Magnetic is my favorite Metallica album and I have been listening to them since 1984.

I was in that concert (I'm french) and even today, 16 years later, that's still one of the best concerts i've been through in my whole entire life. Even James said while they took a break that this place (Arenas of Nimes were built by romans) was so special and the accoustic was kind of magic
They just played In Louisville KY at the “Louder Than Life” concert that’s held every September. They took the stage 2 nights in a row. The band has been posting some of the songs to their channel. Metallica was my 1st concert and I’m so glad for that!

I remember my friend had it downloaded on an MP3 and we (mostly he) would kinda listen to it as he, my cousin, and I road in a horse trailer on a 16 hour road trip to Colorado. We were going elk hunting in the mountains for like a week and a half, with a little family group I had.
The older Metallica became the more intricate their playing has become and the songs, lyrically even more profound. They are THE BEST! And it’s a reason why after almost 42yrs., they are still around and kicking Ass. This song is so amazingly written and composed. One of my all-time favorites and favorite off the Magnetic album. One of the most greatest Metallica's concert ever and as a Frenchman i was there!!!! This Coliseum is really famous in France, it's located in the southern Roman city of Nimes and each summer there's a music festival during 2 weeks. And believe me, the sound of this arena is tremendous!!!! Modern gladiators of Metal! Greetings from France guys. Brad seems really into Metal and Lex's reactions to guitar solo(s) are pure joy!! You should react to Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson. Sure you gonna love it.
I liked this album when it came out. It took a few full listens to see everything they did with it. During this time I was in a band and we were writing and recording ourselves. The hype for the album included that the producer had given them a stack of their old stuff and said here's your homework. It's looser than old stuff but they manage to be heavy while also pulling off the new wave of british heavy metal style which actually wasn't heavy metal as we typically think of it now. Regardless, it was the style they set out to emulate when they founded the group. The songs are well written and well integrated. I definitely enjoy the load and reload eras but was glad they did this after st anger. (Shudder)
I really liked this album despite some of it's production issues. For me, the album felt like they were getting back to the roots of what made them next level in the 80's/early 90's while including a lot of elements that made them mainstream. Also, them adding Robert Trujillo for bass was amazing. By far the best bass player since Cliff Burton for the band.
One, The Unforgiven, The Unforgiven II, The Unforgiven III, Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, Fade to Black the songs I often listen to.. But of all Metallica songs I love TURN THE PAGE the most..
The best thing about seeing Metallica play live is that the every single person in attendance is singing every single word of every single song that they play during the show and it's one of the most incredible things that I've ever been a part of and I have been lucky enough to have seen Metallica play live over 15 times and every time I see them it's a completely different experience and some of the best memories in my life there isn't many bands that you can say that about and the fact that the way that the bands that play today are nowhere near as talented as the band's from the 70's throughout the 90's and the spectacular concerts that they put on will never be matched I was privileged to have been able to witness the best time in the history of music and the level of talent that the bands have today is not anywhere close to the talent of the bands from the beginning of the rock and roll movement that began in the 60's when everything was cutting edge and new when there was no such thing as heavy metal when bands wrote songs with meaning and people were able to relate to the song's music that is being released today is all basically ripped off from the band's that invented rock and roll
One of greatest band Hall of fame legend etc. etc. When you listen metallica its not confuseing at all. Every time you know exacly what happen on stage. Some music from other bands has to much not synchronazed and balanced sounds. In metallica you know who play one guitar riff and who play second one and when they play togeder its perfect. Beautiful

It was this song and the album "Death Magnetic" that signaled Metallica's return to form and made up for the St. Anger album. Metallica started getting back to their roots with Death Magnetic as shown by "All Nightmare Long." Death Magnetic was such a great album.

I was seeing them live the night you published this. They did a Friday and Sunday set it was amazing, you guys have to go to Welcome to Rockville in Daytona, it's the same festival promoter and same Friday/Sunday set, you will not regret it. The live experience will change Brad's perspective.
I was there... Drove to niems from Manchester England for that.. They were absolutely on it that night.. Seen Rammstein there too. They nearly blew the place up.. Fire was so big it was creating mushroom clouds..😆🤘
3:36 Brad says "This is not as heavy". Which it isn't apart from in a few places, BUT, if you listen to a live Metallica gig, especially from years gone by, all their live gigs & stuff was played and recorded down-tuned. To amplify the 'heavy'. More recently, they reverted to playing live in the regular tuning (EADG), which naturally sounds less heavy. So Brad is very observant. Lex, you should go to the Rockville 2021, scheduled Nov 11-14, at Daytona International Speedway. So many great bands will be there including a lot of bands that you’ve discovered on this channel. Some of them are: Metallica Disturbed Lynyrd Skynyrd Stone Temple Pilots Chevelle The Offspring Falling In Reverse …and many others you’ve never even heard of. I’m thinking about going but it’s hard to decide what day to attend because all my favorites don’t perform on the same day. Plus with so many bands performing the tickets aren’t cheap…but they’re reasonable.

The best thing about seeing Metallica play live is that the every single person in attendance is singing every single word of every single song that they play during the show and it's one of the most incredible things that I've ever been a part of and I have been lucky enough to have seen Metallica play live over 15 times and every time I see them it's a completely different experience and some of the best memories in my life there isn't many bands that you can say that about and the fact that the way that the bands that play today are nowhere near as talented as the band's from the 70's throughout the 90's and the spectacular concerts that they put on will never be matched I was privileged to have been able to witness the best time in the history of music and the level of talent that the bands have today is not anywhere close to the talent of the bands from the beginning of the rock and roll movement that began in the 60's when everything was cutting edge and new when there was no such thing as heavy metal when bands wrote songs with meaning and people were able to relate to the song's music that is being released today is all basically ripped off from the band's that invented rock and roll

One of greatest band Hall of fame legend etc. etc. When you listen metallica its not confuseing at all. Every time you know exacly what happen on stage. Some music from other bands has to much not synchronazed and balanced sounds. In metallica you know who play one guitar riff and who play second one and when they play togeder its perfect. Beautiful

I was a teenager when justice was out and loved their first 4 albums, but this one is right up there with those 4. This song, broken, beat and scarred, Cyanide are all up there with the best Metallica songs
It was this song and the album "Death Magnetic" that signaled Metallica's return to form and made up for the St. Anger album. Metallica started getting back to their roots with Death Magnetic as shown by "All Nightmare Long." Death Magnetic was such a great album.

There's an old 80's movie called Crossroads with Ralph Macchio. They have a guitar rock contest with the devil at the end and it reminds me of this for some reason.
I was seeing them live the night you published this. They did a Friday and Sunday set it was amazing, you guys have to go to Welcome to Rockville in Daytona, it's the same festival promoter and same Friday/Sunday set, you will not regret it. The live experience will change Brad's perspective.

3:36 Brad says "This is not as heavy". Which it isn't apart from in a few places, BUT, if you listen to a live Metallica gig, especially from years gone by, all their live gigs & stuff was played and recorded down-tuned. To amplify the 'heavy'. More recently, they reverted to playing live in the regular tuning (EADG), which naturally sounds less heavy. So Brad is very observant. Are you drifiting over to the metal side Brad? 🙂 Great vid as always.

I’m thinking about going but it’s hard to decide what day to attend because all my favorites don’t perform on the same day. Plus with so many bands performing the tickets aren’t cheap…but they’re reasonable.
