SPOILERS ------ It´s from the movie Johnny Got His Gun. He lost arms, legs and eyes. Through morse code he asked the army to put him in a glass box to show the atrocities of war, when they refused he asked them to kill him. His nurse tried to do it but was stopped. The movie ends with him weakly morsecoding "SOS Kill me" over and over, to an empty dark room.

***I hope you guys see this***
To clarify on some of the things you weren’t sure about - he doesn’t die, he’s forced to continue on. In the story, the doctors and military officials and all them pretty much treat him like a piece of lifeless meat, but a couple of the nurses tend to him with care. Even though they all think he’s brain dead, they still make it a point to tend to him with care. For example, the head nurse comes in and she’s upset that the shades of the windows are always closed and she sees to it that the window shades stay open so the patients aren’t locked up in a dark room and can see outside. The guy in the story is thankful for this because he can feel the sun shining on him through the window and it’s comforting to him. There’s one nurse especially who does a lot to care for him and after a while he can sort of sense when he is in her care because she has a certain way she cares for him that he begins to recognize. He develops a sort of mental attachment to her. She is the nurse you see in the video.
Obviously he has a hard time being able to tell if what’s going on in his mind is dreams he’s having, or him remembering moments of his life before the war. His sanity starts to fall apart and some of what is going on in his head are actual memories, some are dreams, and some are just delusions. At some point he remembers/dreams of his father asking if he remembers when he used to send messages to his friend in Morse Code. That’s when he gets the idea to try interacting with the people in the hospital by tapping his head against his pillow in patterns they would recognize as Morse Code. They do recognize it and begin interacting with him. He starts to feel hopeful and ends up creating this fantasy in his head. He wants to have people take him across the country on a tour like a circus freakshow attraction. He wants to take the story of what happened to him and use it as an anti-war message and expose to the public the horrors of war. He gets momentarily happy because he feels like he found a way to put himself to good use in the condition he’s in. He feels like he might have some actual purpose now. So he has this dream of himself actually being taken on tour by his own father. That the bit in the video where he says “he’s the armless, legless wonder of the 20th century”.
But when he expresses this to all the doctors and military people, they pretty much shoot his idea down and kill any hopes of purpose he had and basically let him know that’s never gonna happen and that he’ll stay in the hospital. He gets upset that he finally thought of a way to make something of himself and have meaning again, and instead he just gets the rug pulled out from under him. So he goes from low, to high, back down to low, maybe even lower than before. That’s why from that point on, the only thing he says is “kill me”. After he gets his idea shot down and after everyone leaves the room, the nurse doesn’t go with them, she stays behind and is the only one left in the room with him. When he realizes she’s the only one still there with him, he tries communicating with her to kill him. It’s been a long time since I seen it but the nurses are either nuns or just highly religious, so she struggles with his request for her to him but ultimately decides to do it. She takes the thing and pinches it down on the tube in his neck to prevent him from breathing. And she also places one hand on his head and turns away and prays for him as he’s dying. When he realizes she actually is putting him out of his misery he feels gracious and thinks to himself “thank you”. But while it was happening, one of the other people came back into the room and noticed what she was doing and put a stop to it, so he didn’t die. The nurse was immediately dismissed and because of this, they decided that he would no longer be cared for by any of the nurses, the ones who actually handle him with real care. They close the windows up so he’s back in the dark, and now he’s made to live out the rest of his days in that bed in the dark hospital room. So it’s a very downer ending.
The singing at the end wasn’t any type of funeral or memorial service or anything like that. Like I said, it’s been a long time since I’ve watched it, but if I remember correctly, that was like some sort of holiday party I think. I can’t remember if it was a memory of his or just a dream or what.
Thanks for taking the time out to do this kind of thing. That’s awesome you ended up doing both the song itself and the video separately. Everyone does just one or the other. But I’ve always said that the song by itself and the music video are two very different, but equally important experiences. You’re the first ones I’ve actually seen do both of them.

Thank you for this comment we appreciate the time you took to answer our questions. Its very sad that he didnt end up dying in the end 😢. He would of probably been better off. It's an amazing song and we felt like we should listen to it again with the video as it was Metallica's first and we are glad we didnt react to the video at first or it would have taken away from the lyrics. Thanks for watching !

@@TwoSistersReact I tell myself that his mind breaks and he just lives inside his head, like a fantasy/dream world. So in a sense he still lives, even if it's just mentally. I honestly cannot deal with the idea that he is alive and fully concious for literally the decades it would take to die.

I'll get straight to the point. The Ascension glossary can explain more but pretty much he sold his soul and is crying out about his fate to come, which you can EASILY TELL came after this album in 1991. Just watch his next big hit after this album which is on the 1997 album I believe. IT's called The Unforgiven 2. Yes, a cloned version/demon. Just believe me...same with Roger Waters and Robert Plant and many more....Always good music before the bad albums. LYRICS ARE THE KEY. Do this 1st before judging what I've shared with you please. @@lettylunasical4766 After reading the book for the first time as a teenager, the only way I could cheer myself up was to come up with an entire headcanon that his wishes to be toured as part of the circus came true in the end after all (the circus got wind of his existence, and the hospital was not above accepting large bribes). This included meeting a circus stagehand who understood morse code and used it to forge a friendship with him, as my teenage self was that desperate for him to have a happy ending. They played a lot of chess together. 😅

I fully appreciate the fact that you were paying attention to the movie bits and spoken lines... especially since you had already heard the song. The movie backdrop adds so much to what the song is trying to express.. and you got it. The tragedy of the story is that the nurse DIDN'T kill him, she failed as she is stopped by the man who enters the room midway. At the very end it is showing life went on outside his room without him. He's left to live out the rest of his life unable to feel, taste, smell, hear or receive any indication there is an outside world. Trapped in his own mind and memories. Endlessly repeating SOS Kill ME in morsecode.

hey girls, please, could you react to some of the works of André Matos? He was a brazilian musician, he was a singer, composer, maestro and pianist. He unfortunately passed away in 8th of June and it was a shock for all of his fans world-wide and even people that just knew his bands by name... He played on bands such as Viper(1985-1991), the most famous one Angra(1991-2000), Shaman(2000-2006), then his solo career, besides another projects like Virgo, Symfonia and a project with the guys from an american prog metal band called Sieges Even. He was just 47 years old... He really loved his country and was proud to show the world what we're capable of musically, even with all the music degradation across the globe, he was persistent, yet with his death the media didn't care at all, at max a channel made a homage of 3 minutes, but nothing more than that... The politicians even less, it's pretty sad and if you could react to one or some of his work would be awesome and it would mean the world for his fans such as myself. My request is this one ruclips.net/video/zMB6GyTB5JY/видео.html the song is from the album Holy Land(1996) or maybe Fairy Tale from Shaman live in 2003, the band he formed right after he left Angra ruclips.net/video/t4PI2Eb6FsQ/видео.html, I'd send you the album version of both but I'd like you to see André Matos and how his perfomance was. People might have another requests, I know you do a video per reaction, so it's up to you to decide which you want to do these are good ones in my opinion. It'd mean a lot if you do that.

Its always important to know the full concept of this song. For me being a Guitar player it was all about the riff and getting the solos right. But when you get down into the heart of the song, its truly a tragedy. This song was based off the film and the film gives more contexts where the lyrics can't. But the lyrics are still heart pounding and amazing.
Kudos to the guy who made this into a film, I both wanna shake his hand for making the film, and punch him in the groin for making it a nightmare for anyone who is left to live after a horrible experience.
