  • Learn how easy and quick it is to make your own Italian style bread crumbs from plain white bread without all the unnecessary salt and MSG! It's also much cheaper than buying it in those canister containers in the grocery store. You can use day old fresh bread, dinner rolls, extra toast from Sunday's breakfast or even wheat bread if you want them a bit healthier. It's all up to you!
You can use these in meatloaf, meatballs, as a coating for mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, onion rings, etc. Anything that calls for breadcrumbs, you can use these for that.
    What you'll need:
    6 slices plain bread
1 Tbsp Italian herbs or seasoning
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
    1/2 tsp onion powder
    1/2 tsp salt
Tear up the slices of bread and place into your food processor. Add in the herbs and spices. Pulse 10-12 times or until they resemble small crumbs. Spread out onto a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 300*F oven for 6 minutes, stirring after 3. Let cool and store in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Enjoy!

Now this is what I like. A video that helps me save money. I just threw out a canister of bread crumbs I open months ago. Couldn't remember exactly when I last used them, so I threw them out to be safe. It pains me to throw out my money. Now I can make them when I need them. Thank you so much!

I've been making my own bread for just about a year now. I never thought about making my own breadcrumbs until I came across your recipe. I made some yesterday. I can't wait to use them. Thanks

I still come back to this video anytime I have leftover bread. As simple as it is, I'm certain I've forgotten the cooking time & temp. Lol They freeze great too!

Exactly! I can't tell you how many times I've bought those things and then they sit in the cupboard for months after only using maybe a cup. These, I can do half a recipe and have no qualms about tossing what I don't use.

  • @croutoncrackerjacks

Easy peasy is right! And you can control the amount of salt that goes in these too if you're worried about it. Hope you're having a fantastic trip and safe travels!!

There's nothing wrong with store bought but it's expensive for what you get and full of unnecessary salt and MSG. As well, breadcrumbs aren't something I just keep around. Bread, I always have.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I already buy cheap bread for some of "fill" foods I make, and this is just perfect. 8 cups is just right. Now I can even keep it made fresh too. I love that part. Buying 9 boxes at a time can make one worry about how fresh they are, although I must admit they have always been pretty good. I also just found a spice site online and they have great prices too. Boy what it takes to eat right these days is amazing. I'm so tickled with this one, thanks again.

If you've got a small enough screen for your dehydrator that the crumbs wouldn't fall through, then no reason why it wouldn't work! Should only take maybe 10 minutes at most if a half hour does cubes for stuffing. Great thinking there!

As a home bread baker, I always have left over bread in the freezer. I’ve been making my own bread crumbs. DW doesn’t want to be bothered, but it’s all easy and economical. I also put Parmesan cheese too.

Wonderful! We use a lot of italian bread crumbs here, so I know that I will be making a lot of this. Thank you so much.
PS The price has gone up so much this last year, that I'm down to my last package, and I always buy the huge boxes of the ones that come in a 3 packs. Progresso I think, and even at the club stores they are outrageous, so this is perfect. Can you tell I feed a pretty large "crew" lolol Thanks again.

Can I use 100% whole wheat bread?

    • @pcdosgirl
      @pcdosgirl 5 лет назад +1

You can use almost any type of bread, certainly whole wheat. I've made bread crumbs with sourdough, rye, English muffins and even sweet breads. Rye is especially goods with meatloaf and sourdough is awesome for buttermilk fried chicken. Sweet bread crumbs make excellent bread puddings and cakes or you can use it in place of strudel on blueberry muffins.
