- Learn how easy and quick it is to make your own Italian style bread crumbs from plain white bread without all the unnecessary salt and MSG! It's also much cheaper than buying it in those canister containers in the grocery store. You can use day old fresh bread, dinner rolls, extra toast from Sunday's breakfast or even wheat bread if you want them a bit healthier. It's all up to you!
You can use these in meatloaf, meatballs, as a coating for mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, onion rings, etc. Anything that calls for breadcrumbs, you can use these for that.
What you'll need:
6 slices plain bread
1 Tbsp Italian herbs or seasoning
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
Tear up the slices of bread and place into your food processor. Add in the herbs and spices. Pulse 10-12 times or until they resemble small crumbs. Spread out onto a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 300*F oven for 6 minutes, stirring after 3. Let cool and store in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Enjoy! - Хобби
Now this is what I like. A video that helps me save money. I just threw out a canister of bread crumbs I open months ago. Couldn't remember exactly when I last used them, so I threw them out to be safe. It pains me to throw out my money. Now I can make them when I need them. Thank you so much!
I've been making my own bread for just about a year now. I never thought about making my own breadcrumbs until I came across your recipe. I made some yesterday. I can't wait to use them. Thanks
The meatball video will be up on Saturday. Mozzarella stuffed meatballs!
I still come back to this video anytime I have leftover bread. As simple as it is, I'm certain I've forgotten the cooking time & temp. Lol They freeze great too!
Exactly! I can't tell you how many times I've bought those things and then they sit in the cupboard for months after only using maybe a cup. These, I can do half a recipe and have no qualms about tossing what I don't use.
Easy peasy is right! And you can control the amount of salt that goes in these too if you're worried about it. Hope you're having a fantastic trip and safe travels!!
There's nothing wrong with store bought but it's expensive for what you get and full of unnecessary salt and MSG. As well, breadcrumbs aren't something I just keep around. Bread, I always have.
Crouton Crackerjacks can you use burger bread
Alberto Padilla yes
Makes them instantly ready to use instead of letting bread sit out on the counter overnight.
Great video...Thanks, I give it a try!
this is perfect thank you!!!
Thanks man i appreciated that
You're very welcome!
That's exactly what I was thinking, I already buy cheap bread for some of "fill" foods I make, and this is just perfect. 8 cups is just right. Now I can even keep it made fresh too. I love that part. Buying 9 boxes at a time can make one worry about how fresh they are, although I must admit they have always been pretty good. I also just found a spice site online and they have great prices too. Boy what it takes to eat right these days is amazing. I'm so tickled with this one, thanks again.
You are the best! ♡ Crouton Crackerjacks!!
I know I will be making italian bread crumbs from now on. I never thought of baking the crumbs., I really thank you for this demonstration. :D
I really gotta say thanks a ton because I made bread crumbs and didn't toast em and trucked off the meal bad!!!!
Soo now I know to putt em in the oven👏👏👏👏👏
Thank YOU so much. God Bless you.♥
Oh Lord so easy and delish! I shall sprinkle them on my pork n beans! :)
AWESOME recipe! I made some last night to use for breading cube steak. Tres delish! BTW, I had some rather old brioche bread in my fridge that was perfect for this (yes, I did check for any mold and none was found :o)
Yep! I've always got bread. I rarely have crumbs. Even if I need just a cup, a half recipe will do and only takes maybe 10 minutes from start to finish to make them.
THANKS SO MUCH... I put this on my face book page...
Thank you
If you've got a small enough screen for your dehydrator that the crumbs wouldn't fall through, then no reason why it wouldn't work! Should only take maybe 10 minutes at most if a half hour does cubes for stuffing. Great thinking there!
Super !!
As a home bread baker, I always have left over bread in the freezer. I’ve been making my own bread crumbs. DW doesn’t want to be bothered, but it’s all easy and economical. I also put Parmesan cheese too.
Very! LOL!! Panko is expensive and I do buy it for fish only because breadcrumbs are a little too heavy for that.
thanks! I always hate paying for bread crumbs when I have perfectly good bread in the house ;-)
You must have a crew for sure! LOL!! Even if you get a loaf of the cheap store brand bread for $1.50, that'll easily do 8 cups of bread crumbs. MUCH cheaper than the packs for sure!
Looked good enough to spray some butter on them and grab a spoon!
Very nice Jace! How long will this last on the shelf if I made this in advance?
When I buy bread crumbs I never use the whole container and then I feel like it goes bad on me. This is easier for sure. Thanks!
Wonderful! We use a lot of italian bread crumbs here, so I know that I will be making a lot of this. Thank you so much.
PS The price has gone up so much this last year, that I'm down to my last package, and I always buy the huge boxes of the ones that come in a 3 packs. Progresso I think, and even at the club stores they are outrageous, so this is perfect. Can you tell I feed a pretty large "crew" lolol Thanks again.
Sheila
I only keep them around for a week or so but they should be fine up to a month or so in an airtight container.
can you use toast bread and skip the oven at the end?
How so?
Me too in 2017.
do i let the bread dry out first? im gonna use a small french bread loaf
There ya go! It'd be divine with some mac n cheese under those though... ;-)
Yep! I put them in a ziplock bag and keep them in the cupboard. They last for months that way.
As I watched this, I remembered I have a small tub of bread crumbs in my pantry. haha

You sure can use a blender, hopefully yours have a pulse button, if not u can still do it. Hope this was helpful.
I use my blender to make breadcrumbs. I toast the bread first. Then break the toast into large pieces and place in the blender.
Do you bake? How long can you keep on shelf?
I mix the bread crumbs with drawn butter before toasting them

Hopefully you can put it on a tempered glass as I do not have a cookie sheet 🤔🤔🤔
At any rate already started sooo..... we'll see I guess
Can I use 100% whole wheat bread?
You can use almost any type of bread, certainly whole wheat. I've made bread crumbs with sourdough, rye, English muffins and even sweet breads. Rye is especially goods with meatloaf and sourdough is awesome for buttermilk fried chicken. Sweet bread crumbs make excellent bread puddings and cakes or you can use it in place of strudel on blueberry muffins.
What if u dont have a blender?@croutoncrackerjack
how long is the shelf life of these home made breadcurmbs?
Rey Mendoza,Jr As long as you dry them well, 3 months.
You won't be sorry!
